Alex Scott Buckner-Pogue
Alex Scott Buckner-Pogue of Cuba, Missouri was born Wednesday,
September 10, 2008 to the union of Robert “Bobby” Pogue and Sarah Buckner
and passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at Missouri Baptist Hospital,
Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by his great grandparents, Frank and Dorothy Keogh,
Morris and Helen Buckner; one brother, Liam Mikal Buckner-Pogue and other
family members.
He is survived by his parents; grandparents, Rebecca Pogue, Dan and Sandy
Buckner; great grandmother, Hettie Pogue; uncle, Thomas Bruner; aunts, Cindy
and Ashlie Pogue, Melissa and husband Griffin Taylor and Amy Buckner, all of
Cuba, Missouri and other relatives.
Private services were held at Meramec Hill Cemetery.
Arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri.
Eva Lou Cooper
Eva Lou Cooper of Steelville, Missouri, was born August 14, 1915 in
Manchester, Iowa to Robert and Catherine (Puckett) Kerby and she passed away
Tuesday morning, September 9, 2008 at Phelps County Regional Medical Center
in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 93 years.
She was united in marriage to Maurice Edward Cooper who preceded her in death
on March 31, 1988.
She moved to Licking, Missouri when she was 12 years old. She graduated from
Licking High School and later moved to Steelville. In July of 1938, Eva Lou
joined the First Baptist Church of Steelville. On January 29, 1939, she and
Maurice Cooper were married and they shared 50 years together.
Eva Lou had a deep love for the church and spent many years singing in the
choir and with the sextet, working in the church nursery, assisting with
Vacation Bible School and being a member of the beautification and memorial
committees. Eva Lou served as church financial secretary at the First Baptist
Church until she retired in 1998.
In earlier years, she always enjoyed gardening, needlework and socializing
with a group of lady friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers, Leonard,
Beecham, Edgar, Robert and Vernon Kerby; four sisters, Cordia Kerby, Lydia
McColgin Steinkamp, Daisy Davis and Mary Terry.
Visitation was from 9 a.m. until service time on Saturday, September 12, 2008
at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2008 at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Kevin Farr
officiating. The eulogy was given by Kent Howald. Special music of “Blessed
Assurance” and “Because He Lives” were sung by Joyce Vaughn, Barbara Chandler
and Sharon England. Sharon England accompanied on piano.
Casket bearers were Charles Chipman, Kent Howald, Allen Grayson, John Frazier,
Ken Halbert and Bill Freeman.
Committal prayer and burial were in the Steelville Cemetery.

Steelville, Missouri.
George D. Foster
George Daniel Foster of Leasburg, Missouri was born to the union of Joseph
and Mary (Hollingshead) Foster on October 11, 1918 in Leasburg, Missouri
and passed away Sunday, September 14, 2008 in Cuba, Missouri at the age
of 89 years, 11 months and 3 days.
George was united in marriage to Wilma E. Richardson on June 16, 1951 in
Pocahontas, Arkansas and to this union four children were born.
He worked most of his life as a mechanic and retired from Hocker Oil Co. as
a manager of their Cuba location. He was a lifetime member of Cuba United
Methodist Church and was a member of the Men’s Prayer Breakfast, VFW Post
#7147, Chamber of Commerce, Crawford County Fair Board member for 27 years
having served as President, Past Board member of Missouri Ozarks Economic
Corporation, Leader of the 4-H Club, supporter of the Crawford County
Historical Society. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during
WWII. In his spare time he enjoyed farming on the family farm and listening
to Blue Grass Gospel Music.
George is preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Charles Foster;
three brothers, Thomas, William and Charles Foster.
He is survived by two sons, Kenneth and wife Bonnie Foster of Sullivan,
Missouri, Troy and wife Kimberly Foster of Charlestown, Indiana; one daughter,
Mary and husband Mike Brinker of Sullivan, Missouri; 10 grandchildren Jonathan
Foster of Little Rock, Arkansas, K.J., Michael, Matthew and Ashley Foster, all
of Sullivan, Missouri, Sarah Foster of St. Louis, Missouri, Zachariah and
Rachel Foster of Charlestown, Indiana, Olivia and Mariah Radle, both of
Sullivan, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Tuesday, September 16, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. at Britton
Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral was held Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Cuba United
Methodist Church with Pastor Paul Lathum officiating.
Interment in Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri with full military honors.
Arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri.
Iris H. Fry
Iris H. Fry of Las Vegas, Nevada was born April 8, 1939 in Rolla, Missouri
to Henry McGhee and May Wright and passed September 10, 2008 at the Spring
Valley Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 69 years.
She married Norman Fry on March 17, 1956.
She was a retail clerk.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Bullington and one sister in
infancy.
She is survived by three sons, Doug Fry and wife Donna of Las Vegas, Nevada,
Steve Fry and partner Jim of Los Angeles, California and Tony Fry and wife
Karen of Highland, Utah; one daughter, Rhonda Wallace and husband Kevin of
Las Vegas, Nevada; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; other
relatives and friends.
Graveside service Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Licklider
Cemetery at Jakes Prairie, Cuba, Missouri with Kevin Wallace officiating.
Norman W. Garber
Norman W. Garber of Cuba, Missouri, formerly of Wichita, Kansas, was born on
Tuesday, November 20, 1940 in La Junta, Colorado to Lester Floyd Garber and
Ruth Ione Suden Garber and he passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital,
Sullivan, Missouri on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at the age of 67 years,
9 months and 20 days.
He worked in maintenance for the City of Wichita, Kansas for 24 years before
retiring in November 2002. He served three-four years in the Kansas National
Guard.
His hobbies were playing cards, working number puzzles, fishing and watching
westerns on TV, especially the “Walker, Texas Ranger” show.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Alvin Garber.
He is survived by brothers, Floyd (Mary) Garber of Montgomery, Alabama and
Arthur (Margaret) Garber of Clinton, Missouri; sisters, Billie (Wayne) Jones
of Atlanda, Kansas, Flo Thomas of Yukon, Oklahoma and Hope Somerville of Cuba,
Missouri; other relatives and friends.
No public services held.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba,
Missouri.
James Thomas “Tom” Lashlee
James Thomas “Tom” Lashlee of Cuba, Missouri was born on December 29, 1956 at
Freeport, Texas to Leroy and Marilyn (Edwards) Lashlee and he passed away
Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at the age of 51 years, 8 months and 10 days.
He attended school, kindergarten through high school at Cuba, Missouri and
attended Junior College at Lake Jackson, Texas.
He honorably served his country six years with the U.S. Navy and was married
to Amber Whitling on February 28, 1982.
He drove over the road semi-tractor trailers for over 20 years. He was
baptized into the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Bessie Edwards and
Jesse and Virginia Lashlee; other relatives and friends.
He is survived by his parents of Cuba, Missouri; one brother, Joseph Lashlee
of St. Louis, Missouri; one sister, Saundra Latner of Sullivan, Missouri,
nieces, Tabitha Tanner, Melissa Lashlee and Katie Tanner, all of Sullivan,
Missouri; nephews, Rick Wenkel of Charlotte, North Carolina and James Hawkins
of Sullivan, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2008 from
the Eaton Funeral Home in Bourbon, Missouri with Brother Lynn Huggins
officiating.
Interment was in the Bourbon Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Eaton Funeral home, Bourbon,
Missouri.
James Marshall McCune
James Marshall McCune was born October 31, 1924 in Cuba, Missouri to Roy and
Rhoda (Housewright) McCune and passed away September 10, 2008 at Cuba,
Missouri at the age of 83 years.
His father died when Jim was nine years old and he became the caretaker of
his mother and brothers and sisters until he entered the US Navy. He farmed
the remainder of his life.
He belonged to the Oak Hill Cemetery Association for many years so it just
seemed right for the funeral to be held in the Oak Hill Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Emmett “Peck” McCune and five sisters,
Viola Enloe, Ruth Davis, Mildred Pinnell, Etta Licklider and Edith Homeyer.
He is survived by many nieces, nephews; his four-legged friends were his
dogs, Dawg and Bo and his cat, Whiskers; other relatives and friends.
Songs of “I’ll Fly Away” and “The Old Rugged Cross” were sung and played by
Shelly and Robert Davis.
His niece, Rhoda Voss talked about “Uncle Jim” and his sayings about life.
Funeral service Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Oak Hill
Church, Cuba, Missouri with Pastor Rick Oberle officiating.
Interment in the Oak Hill Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Davis, Kaylee McCune, Austin Voss, Robert Davis,
Angie Renstrom and Daniel Pinnell.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Gottenstroeter Funeral Home,
Owensville, Missouri.
Ronald L. Peters Sr.
Ronald L. Peters Sr. of Sullivan, Missouri was born on August 19, 1944
in St. Louis, Missouri to Raymond F. and Amelia Mae (Hoevelmann) Peters
and passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2008 at the age of 64 years.
He married June West on November 26, 1988 in Imperial, Missouri. Besides
working many years at the shoe factory, he enjoyed working on old cars and
woodworking, making many wood projects for his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Kenny and
Norman Peters.
He is survived by his wife of the home; children, Vernon Peters, Ronald
Peters Jr. and wife Jamie, Brad McClary Jr., Rebecca Johnson, Beth Hathman
and husband Kenny, all of Sullivan, Missouri and Rachelle L. Peters of
Deepwater, Missouri. 14 grandchildren, Ryan, Justin, Megan, John, Elizabeth,
Jerry, Alex, Brandon, Cody, Bryce, Angel, Heather, Hayley and Aaron;
brothers, Bob Peters and wife Gwen of Imperial, Missouri and Gary Peters
and wife Sandy of Bourbon, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Funeral service Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of
the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
Inurnment will be at a later date in Cave Spring Cemetery.
All arrangements under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan,
Missouri.
Eunice Esther Sooter
Eunice Esther Sooter, of Rolla, formerly of Dixon, was born on
November 15, 1914, at Dixon, a daughter of George Samuel and Esther
Lillian (Richardson) Riddle and passed away Sunday, September 14, 2008,
in the Rolla Manor Care Center, Rolla, Missouri at the age of 93 years,
9 months and 29 days.
Eunice was united in marriage by C. W. Sooter, on May 17, 1934, at Dixon,
Missouri to Dorsie Virgil Sooter.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Dixon, Missouri since
March 16, 1952 and was baptized on March 19, 1952. She had worked as a
clerk at the Western Auto Store, Dixon, Missouri for a number of years as
well as being a homemaker. She loved gardening, watching the St. Louis
Cardinals and was just an all around baseball fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband on October 24, 1993; an infant
daughter, Eunice Esther Sooter on April 8, 1938; her father on
August 5, 1972; her mother on July 27, 1958; two brothers, Chester Riddle
and Luther Riddle on April 11, 1988.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Dorothy Sooter
and Robert and Sharon Kay Sooter, all of Rolla, Missouri; one daughter and
son-in-law, Barbara and John Wessner, Rolla, Missouri; seven grandchildren,
Luther Sooter, Janice Turner, Traci Sooter, Dana Booker, Robyn Sooter, Erin
Campbell and Shannon Redford; 12 great grandchildren, Carmen Schott, Luther
Dean Sooter, Trevor Paul Turner, Chelsea Vieceli, Sara Lowe, Rachael Lowe,
Thomas Booker, Samuel Booker, Brooke Ellen Campbell, Tyler Mason Redford,
Dillon James Campbell and Samantha Elizabeth Redford; one great great
granddaughter, Isabella Marie Schott; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 16, 2008, in the Dixon
Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes with Pastor Brandon McCombs,
First Baptist Church, Dixon, Missouri officiating.
Two favorite hymns, “In The Garden” and “Amazing Grace” were played for the
funeral service.
Interment was in the Dixon Cemetery under the direction of the Dixon Chapel
of Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
Pallbearers were Luther Sooter, Paul Turner, James Booker, Donnie Campbell,
Brent Redford, Trevor Turner, Luther Dean Sooter II, Rick Schott and Luther
Riddle.
