MO Local Obituaries for the Week of September 17, 2014 Alma Edgar Alma Edgar of St. James, Missouri was born in Berlin, Illinois to John E. and Oma Joleen (Veech) Jones on December 16, 1920 and passed away Friday, September 5, 2014 at the age of 93 years. On May 22, 1937 she was united in marriage to Cecil Edgar and to this union they were blessed with four boys. Alma was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in St. James where she was very active in the WMU, she also taught Sunday School for several years. Alma looked forward every year for the spring, a time she could get out and plant the big beautiful garden that she enjoyed so much. That garden was such a blessing to Alma, knowing that she would have wonderful food canned for her family, and the joy of being able to share the bounty of her gifts with family, friends, and neighbors. The kids always jokingly called their home "The Edgar Hotel" noting that they always had family staying with them. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Oma Jones; husband Cecil, in 2004; her son, Keith; sisters, Mary Roberts and Pearl Barnicle; brothers, Johnny, Kenneth, and Doyle Jones; granddaughter, Shannon Edgar; and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Edgar. She is survived by her sons, Cecil Edgar and wife Margie of Kansas City, Missouri, Dennis Edgar and wife Nancy of Rogersville, Missouri, John Edgar of St. James, Missouri; brother, Bill Jones and wife Delores of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, Kevin, Ray, Dennis, Phillip, Kerry, Travis, Brett, and Meghan Edgar; great grandchildren, Stephanie, Heather, Kaylee, Cody, Zach, Adam, Max, and Shannon Edgar; great great grandsons, Carson, Gavin, Emmett, and Issac. Burl Roy Enloe Burl Enloe of the St. Clair/ Stanton, Missouri area, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at the age of 72 years. He is survived by his wife, Darline Enloe, nee Lackey, of the family home; two sons, Burl David Enloe of St. Clair, Missouri and Patrick Enloe and wife Kim of Bourbon, Missouri; Dale Lackey whom he loved as his own; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Chester Fuchs Chester Fuchs of Bourbon, Missouri, formerly of the Owensville area, was born at Owensville, Missouri on August 18, 1926 to Tony and Mary (Schimmel) Fuchs, Jr. and passed away Friday at the age of 88 years and 17 days. He was raised in the Owensville area and was later married to Eleanor M. Loeb on September 20, 1947. Because of his employment in the shoe manufacturing business, Chester lived in various places throughout the country including Illinois, Arkansas and later back to Missouri. He worked with a variety of shoe companies in the area, which included International, Brown, and Mid-West. Chester honorably served his country during WWII with the US Navy in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater as Fireman First Class on the USS Caperton and later the aircraft carrier USS Hornet. He enjoyed bowling and was a member of several leagues throughout the years. He also enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and fishing, driving his "Mule" and 4x4 and especially cutting wood. Chester was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Sullivan, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Mary Fuchs, Jr. wife, Eleanor on December 23, 1996; three brothers, James, George and Milford Fuchs; and four sisters, Nellie Buschman, Virginia Fiegler, Elsie Havelka and Marie Landwehr.He is survived by two daughters, Janet Gordon and husband Leroy of Holts Summit, Missouri and Catherine Vaughn and husband Robert of Raeford, North Carolina; a special companion, Amy Brewingtion of Bourbon, Missouri; one brother, Earl Fuchs of Owensville, Missouri; also Donald Fuchs, whom he loved as a brother; two sisters, Mamie Landwehr and Mildred Bock, both of Owensville, Missouri; three grandchildren, Stephanie Swayze and husband Donald of Hermann, Missouri, Gregory Vaughn and wife Nina of Abu Dhabi, UAE, and Emily Vaughn Weidner and husband Marshall of Raeford, North Carolina; four great grandchildren, Rachael and Katelyn Swayze of Hermann, Missouri and Ayden and Alexandria Vaughn of Abu Dhabi, UAE; other relatives and friends. Gray of St. James, Missouri was born on November 11, 1926 in Portageville, Missouri to Rollie L. and Martha E. (Miller) McGath and passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at the age of 87 years. She married Arthur A. "Lefty" Gray. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rollie and Martha McGath; husband, Arthur "Lefty" Gray on December 2, 2005; a daughter, Lauretta Wick-Adams in 2010 and several sisters and brothers. Marjorie was a member of the St. James First Assembly of God for many years. She loved painting and being a farmer's wife. She enjoyed being a homemaker and was a great cook and talented seamstress. She is survived by three sons, Duane Gray and wife Deborah, Steven Gray and wife Linda, and Mark E. On May 3, 1996 he married Kristina Carlson. Rick served in the Missouri National Guard for 15 years. He was employed as a truck driver for the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in St. James, Missouri. Shirley Jean Scowden Shirley Jean Scowden of Steelville, Missouri was born Wednesday, June 28, 1933 in Steelville, Missouri to John Jiles and Irma Elizabeth Housewright Woolsey and passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014 at her home at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 13 days. She worked at Farm Bureau for many years. She never met a stranger and loved meeting and visiting people at work. Shirley loved to shop and not only would buy the outfit, she would buy all of the accessories to match. She always talked about how much she loved to dress up. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Irma Woolsey; her sister, Mary Lou West and husband Norman. She is survived by one daughter, Pam Sanders and husband Pat of Steelville, Missouri; one son, Tom Murphy and wife Yvonne of Steelville, Missouri; one brother, John Dale Woolsey and wife Valerie of Steelville, Missouri; five grandchildren, P.J. Josephine Gruber Smith Josephine Gruber Smith formerly of St. James, Missouri was born on November 25, 1917 in St. James, Missouri to Ferdinand and Josephine (Peters) Gruber and passed away Thursday, September 11, 2014 at the age of 96. Josephine grew up in St. James where her family owned the Gruber Grocery for many years. She was united in marriage to Fred "Buddy" Smith and to this union three children were born. She enjoyed nothing more than raising her children. After their children had left the nest she would now eagerly await the arrival of grandchildren. She was blessed with 10 grand- children, and 31 great grandchildren, and they were the light of her live. Josephine was a longtime member of the Episcopal Church, she enjoyed gaming, and family time. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ferdinand and Josephine Gruber; her husband, Buddy Smith in 1995; brother, Charles Gruber; sisters, Flora Rasmussen, Viola Pinson, Grace Kirgan, Ida Hall, and Betty Cassatt. She is survived by her children, Michael Smith of Florida, Sally Pierle and husband Michael of St. Louis, Missouri and Dennis Smith of Georgia; 10 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Don, as he was known by his family and friends, was united in marriage to Janice Thomas.
