Amy of Cuba, Missouri (formerly of Rapid City, South Dakota) was born on February 21, 1922 in Watertown, South Dakota to George and Matilda (Kraus) Amy and passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the age of 94 years. Glen retired as a Civil Service Employee, having worked as a Foreman for the Department of the U.S. Army in Igloo, South Dakota. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army-Air Corps during WW II. He was a member of the Watertown First United Methodist Church in Watertown, South Dakota and attended the Cuba United Methodist Church. He enjoyed living in the Black Hills of South Dakota, working outside in his garden, golfing and traveling with the Go Club of Peoples Bank. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Matilda Amy; wife, Helen S. (Finn) Amy; one son, Donald Lee Thompson; and two brothers, Merle "Ace" and Donald Amy. Alma Jean Brown Alma Jean Brown of Steelville, Missouri passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the age of 91 years, 2 months and 16 days. She was born June 29, 1925 in Crawford County, Missouri to Nellie Gruver who passed away at a young age. Alma Jean's grandmother, Anna Gruver stepped in and raised her until she was grown. On October 19, 1946 in Drake, Missouri, Alma Jean married Chester William Brown and to this union three daughters were born. Alma Jean was a member of the Steelville First Baptist Church, a charter member of the Ozark Trail Blazers and a member of the Town and Country Extension Club. She also was a volunteer at Golden Echoes for several years. For many years, she farmed alongside her husband, Chester. Alma Jean loved sewing, cooking and using the recipes from her many cookbooks. She was known for making her delicious red velvet cupcakes for everyone's birthday. She was preceded in death by her grandmother; her mother, Nellie; her husband, Chester Brown; one granddaughter, Jeanan Lavern Miles; and one sister-in-law, Sue Ann Ballwin and husband Lyndell. Sidney Edward Brown Sidney Edward Brown of St. James, Missouri was born July 13, 1931 in St. James, Missouri to Edward and Clara (Wheat) Brown and passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the age of 85 years. After graduating from high school Sidney went to work for the International Shoe Company. In October of 1951 Sidney joined the ranks in the United States Army during the Korean War. Sidney was a Medical Technician and was awarded three bronze service stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. On July 26, 1952 he married Marilyn Prewett and to this union three sons were born. Sidney really enjoyed meeting new people and getting to visit with old friends. This would serve him greatly as he went to work as a car salesman, working at Hutchenson Ford and B&S Motors. He was also very involved in the community serving on the St. James Board of Alderman, Post Commander of the VFW of St. James, and Member of the St. James Police Department Auxiliary. Sidney enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting (especially deer), spending time on the farm, and reading a good western. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Clara Brown; five brothers; and seven sisters. Jim Bruns Sr. of Cuba, Missouri was born on Friday, May 10, 1935 in Pacific, Missouri to Robert Paul and Ruth Decker Bruns and passed away on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 at the age of 81 years and 4 months. Jim earned his Masters of Divinity Degree at Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky and later a Masters in Counseling degree. He married Carol Jean Stringer in St. Louis, Missouri on June 1, 1957 and to this union three children were born. Jim served his country honorably in the United States Army completing two tours of Vietnam. He retired as Army Chaplain after 27 years. He also, served as a transitional and interim pastor for 20 years in Missouri following his military service. Jim enjoyed mowing his lawn and golfing. He was a true and faithful servant who loved the Lord. Dodson George H. Dodson of Sullivan, Missouri was born at Lowry City, Missouri on April 15, 1929 to Eugene and Isabella Zada (Van Patton) Dodson and passed away Tuesday, September 5, 2016 at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 20 days. At the age of 17 he enlisted into the U.S. Navy and honorably served his country during WWII. George attained the rank of Quarter Master 3rd Class and was assigned duty aboard the USS Furse. He was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal, Navy Occupation Medal in the European Theater, the China Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal. After his discharge, George resided in Kansas City, Missouri where he was employed by Mobil Oil Company driving a transport truck hauling airplane fuel. While living in Kansas City, George married Eunice May Blankenship and to this marriage four children were born. He began a career in Public Safety at Licking, Missouri where he was the City Marshall. His later employment included police work for the cities of Cuba and Sullivan. In 1983, George married Carol Sue (Minx) Schmidt and lived in Pacific, Missouri where he was employed 10 years for the Department of Corrections. His career then expanded to Franklin County where he was a Deputy Sheriff for seven years. Later he was employed with Crawford County as a Deputy where he worked for five years until his retirement. George was also a life-time member of Sullivan Lodge #69 AF&AM. He enjoyed fishing with his best friend, the late Jim Squires and took pleasure flying with his brother Bob. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Isabella Dodson; a sister, Russie Harris; and two brothers, Russell Dodson and Elmer Dodson. In November of 1985, she was united in marriage to Calvin "Emery" Harmon, who survives of the home. Through the years, Gloria worked at Brown Shoe Co., San Val and Country Mart. She enjoyed fishing and playing Bingo, but most of all loved the family gatherings. Robert Allen Johnson Robert Allen Johnson was born June 2, 1940 in Kirkwood, Missouri to Albert and Pansy (Epple) Johnson and passed away Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the age of 76 years. Bob was a star athlete in school playing both basketball and running track. After graduating Valley Park High School in 1958, he went on to play Semi-pro basketball in St. Louis, Missouri. Bob served his country in the US Army and was honorable discharged October 25, 1965. Following his time in the service, he worked at many various occupations including, factory work, supervising and even auctioneering. Bob was a hard worker and committed to anything or job he put his mind to. He spent over 16 years employed by Integram Corp. He married Cheryl Tutterrow on June 23, 1998. After spending a brief time in Washington, Missouri they built and moved to their home in Bourbon, Missouri. Bob was an avid fisherman. He loved traveling on vacations, camping and skeet shooting. He was very active in his later years whether working out with weights in his home or doing projects outside around the house. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert; and sister, Mary Ann Geckler. Ina Nadine Phenix Ina Nadine Phenix of St. James, Missouri was born January 14, 1934 at Versailles, Indiana to Cecil and Alice (Dearinger) Lemen Harmon and passed away Monday September 12, 2016 at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 29 days. On December 2, 1956 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Ina married Borden Phenix. Ina was a very independent, hard worker and will be remembered for her faith, strength, determination and perseverance. She loved studying the word of God, gardening, her flowers and enjoyed the outside. Ina's husband Borden, died young leaving her with young kids at home to raise. Ina's strong determination turned her to God to help her through life, which she remained faithful to the end. Ina worshiped at the First Baptist Church in St. James, Missouri and loved her church family and the dear ladies who supported Ina throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Borden Phenix on October 31, 1978; baby daughter, Ina Nadine; her parents, Alice Harmon and Cecil Lemen; and one brother, Junior Lemen. Richard Eugene Wagoner Richard Eugene Wagoner of St. James, Missouri was born on April 15, 1949 in Waynesville, Missouri to Andrew Eugene and Mary Etta Zumwalt Wagoner and passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at the age of 67 years, 4 months and 30 days. He married Barbara Jean Smith on October 19, 1968 at Vichy, Missouri. Richard loved life and he loved people. After greeting you with a warm smile and a twinkle in his eyes, he would launch into a story. His stories were often about his family, his garden or happenings around the community. He could keep one engaged in a story for quite some time. He was a natural storyteller. He loved playing Santa Claus at the local elementary school. He loved singing gospel songs and country western music. He recorded a CD for his family and friends. He spent many hours reading the Bible and listening to Christian tapes. Richard was an avid gardener. He and his wife spent hours each summer in their garden. A few years back, their daughter, Nicole and husband, Troy joined them in their produce business and planted several acres of vegetables and sold them around the area. He was employed as a state sales manager for Ampro Market, sales person for Tractor Supply for 10 years, and J&R Inventory for eight years. He was a member of the Apostolic Penecostal Church in Rolla, Missouri and the Moose Lodge in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Mary Wagoner; one son-in-law, Jesse Embrey III; and one grandson, Micah.
