H. C. Barnicle
H. C. "Barney" Barnicle of Cuba, Missouri was born on May 8, 1926 to the
union of John Barnicle and Isolene Taff Barnicle and passed away in Cuba,
Missouri on September 18, 2003 at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 10
days. On April 18, 1970 Barney was united in marriage to Judy Chitwood
in St. Louis, Missouri. They have been happily married for 33 years.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, stepmother Ida
Elizabeth Barnicle, two brothers, Earl and Bill Barnicle and one niece
Elizabeth Barnicle Veach. Barney served in the Army of the United States
of America during World War II and was honorably discharged on
October 24, 1946. In January of 1953 Barney was baptized at the St. John's
Baptist Church in St. Johns, Missouri. He worked for the railroad as an
engineer and retired after 40 years of service. Barney was a member of the
Cuba American Legion Post No. 522 and the Cuba VFW Post No. 7147. He also
had a great love of music and loved nothing more than playing music.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving wife
Judy Barnicle; three daughters, Linda Bone and friend Clark Wille, Rhonda
Wipf and husband Paul and Jody Barnicle Green and husband Terry; one
brother, Kenneth Barnicle and wife Mary; six grandchildren; Tim, Traci,
Andy, Paul Eddy, Holly and Kenzie; one step-grandson Jordan; three great
grandchildren Molly, Timmy and Gracie; other relatives and many friends.
Barney was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather,
brother, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
H. C. "Barney" Barnicle was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
where funeral services were held on Sunday, September 21, 2003 at 1 p.m. with
Rev. Eric Smith officiating. Interment was in the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Mo.
Military honors was held at the cemetery. All arrangements were under the
direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Jimmie Don Brewer, Sr.
Jimmy Don Brewer, Sr. of Cadet, Missouri, formerly of Cuba, Missouri, was
born Monday, April 27, 1936 in Palmer, Missouri, a son of the late Lewis
Jackson Brewer and Leona Frances (Murphy) Brewer. Don was fortified with
the sacraments of the Holy Mother Church Saturday, September 13, 2003 at
the age of 67 years, four months and 16 days at his home surrounded by his
loving and dedicated family.Don was united in marriage to Rose Gwendolyn
Celiz September 15, 1961 in St. Louis, Mo. They were blessed to have three
children born to this union. Don leaves to survive him his loving and devoted
wife of 41 years plus, Rose Brewer of Cadet, Mo.; one daughter Lisa Marie
Eveland and husband Bobby of St. Louis, Mo.; one son Jimmy Don Brewer, Jr.
and wife Kathy of Defiance, Mo.; two grandchildren, Timmy Joe Brewer and
Kennedy Marie Brewer; one sister-in-law Helen Brewer, Mineral Point, Mo.
and by many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents Don was
also preceded in death by one son, Timothy Joseph Brewer; seven sisters,
Velma Lewis, Lula Boyer, Bessie Hanger, Lena Strange, Ruby Goodson, Hazel
Harmon and Mary Blair; ten brothers, Virgil Lewis, Isaac Lewis, Bill Brewer,
Walter Brewer, Raymond Brewer, Albert Brewer, Carson Brewer, Melvin Brewer,
Darrell Brewer and Alfred Brewer.Don served his country in the United States
Air Force from March 4, 1957 to July 20, 1956. Don was a surface
transportation specialist attached to the 49th Transport Squad. Don had a
great love for his family and enjoyed all the visits and trips. He was
very proud of his grandchildren and always loved the visits with them. Don
enjoyed horseshoes, shooting pool, both for fun and in leagues. He won the
1994 Championship in Tower Lakes, Florida. He enjoyed going four wheeling
for hours at a time. Don was always ready to get the motor home moving to
take a camping trip and explore the gifts of Mother Nature. Don retired
from Nabisco in 1985 with 25 years of faithful service. He never wanted to
be still and take it easy, always tinkering fixing up cars and trucks.
He would work around the house making small repairs and taking great pride in
keeping everything looking nice. Don's love for life and care for people
directed him to further the education of future doctors in the area. He
made the choice of anatomical donation to the St. Louis University Medical
Center, St. Louis, Mo. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Sunday,
September 28, 2003 at 12 noon at the St. James Catholic Church with Father
George Galovich officiating. A Memorial dinner will be held Sunday,
September 28, 2003 following the Mass at the St. James School Hall.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Moore Funeral
Home, Potosi, Mo.
William Cleo Britton
William Cleo Britton, Hillsboro, Missouri was born July 2, 1925 at Davisville,
Missouri to Scott and Della nee Earls Britton. He passed away
September 16, 2003 at DeSoto, Missouri at the age of 78 years, 2 months and
14 days. Mr. Britton was a chemist for the Purex Corporation and served in
the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Shriners and Masons. He was preceded
in death by his wife Virginia, his parents and his sister, Ruth Crow.
He had fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, brothers Earl,
of Caledonia, Mo., Junior Britton, Steelville, Mo., Leonard, Bob and Jim
Britton, addresses unknown. Sisters Hazel Boulch, Hillsboro, Mo., Delphia
Boulch, Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., Leona Hedrick, Bixby, Mo., Dorothy Stevenson,
Caledonia, Mo., Emily Clinton, Betty Garrison and Mima Prickie, addresses
unknown. The funeral service was Friday, September 19, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at
the Mahn Funeral Home, DeSoto, Mo. Services were conducted by Rev. Jeremy
Muniz. Burial was in Peaceful Meadows Cemetery.
Carson Rubie Earls
Carson Rubie Earls was born Sunday, February 1, 1914, at Cherryville,
Missouri, a son of the late Charles Earls and Effie (Harris) Earls.
He departed this life Saturday, September 13, 2003, at his home in Milan,
Tennessee, at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 12 days. On April 27, 1933,
at Potosi, Missouri, Carson was united in marriage to Sybil Oletha Eaton.
Two sons and two daughters were born to this union. She preceded him in
death. He later married Ida Mai Robinson, who preceded him in death; as
did one brother, Oran Earls and two sisters, Beulah Cassidy and Helen Gorline.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his two sons, Jim D. Earls and
wife Connie of St. Louis, Mo. and Daniel C. Earls of Humbolt, Tennessee; two
daughters, Ruby Lollar of St. Louis, Mo. and Charlene Howard and husband John
of Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Helen Earls of
Ironton, Mo., Gladys Eaton of Steelville, Mo. and Bryan and Pansy Eaton of
St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great
great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Carson Rubie Earls lay
in state after 9 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2003, at the Britton Brothers
Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo.Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Thursday,
September 18, 2003, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Jim Simmons officiating.
Committal prayers and interment were in Martin Cemetery, Cherryville, Mo.
Serving as pallbearers were Jim Earls, Dan Earls, Charles Earls, and John
Howard. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home,
Steelville, Mo.
Marjorie Caroline Palmer
Marjorie Caroline Palmer nee Miller of Cuba, Missouri was born on
November 5, 1924 in St. Louis, Missouri to the union of the late
George C. Miller and Nora Craig Miller and passed away on
September 10, 2003 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 78 years, 10 months
and 5 days. In St. Louis, Missouri Marjorie was united in marriage to
Harry R. Palmer. There were two children, James and Kathleen were born
to this union. Marjorie and Harry were happily married until he preceded
her in death on January 2, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her half
brother, Herman Verdine. Marge and Harry moved to Cuba in 1960 and started
a heating, air conditioning and commercial refrigeration business known
today as Cuba Refrigeration. Marge was the secretary/bookkeeper for their
business for several years. Upon retirement she worked part-time for
Coverdell Glass and was a devoted grandmother/baby-sitter for 13 years.
She was an active member and officer of the Cuba American Legion Auxiliary.
Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her loving son James
Edward Palmer and wife Barbara; one daughter Kathleen Marie Jarvis and husband
Harold; three grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; other relatives and many
friends. Marge was a well respected citizen of the community, always ready to
do for others and will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
Memorial Services for Marjorie Caroline Palmer was held on Monday, September 15,
2003 at 7 p.m. at the Britton Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri with Rev. Jack
Shepherd officiating. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton
Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Lila H. Riefer
Lila H. Riefer nee Shelley of Cuba, Missouri was born on October 3, 1918 at
Cuba, Missouri to the union of Clarence Elbert Shelley and Fannie Edward
McWilliams Shelley and passed away on September 19, 2003 at the Phelps County
Regional Medical Center of Rolla, Missouri at the age of 84 years, 11 months
and 16 days. Lila was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Clarence
Shelley. On June 4, 1955 Lila was united in marriage to Joe Riefer at Tunica,
Mississippi. They were happily married until Joe preceded her in death.
Lila and Joe really enjoyed going fishing and dancing together.
Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her loving daughter,
Lila L. Walker and husband Kenneth; one son Edward Mitchell and wife Joan; four
grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one great great grandson; other
relatives and friends. Lila was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, good friend
to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Lila H. Riefer nee Shelley was in
state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. where funeral services were held
on Sunday, September 21, 2003 at 3 p.m. with Gary Mace officiating. Interment
was in the Warren Cemetery, Rosebud, Mo. All arrangements were under the
direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Robert Eugene Wigger
Robert Eugene Wigger was born October 15, 1941 in Goodwater, Missouri, the son
of Olin and Ollie (Blount) Wigger. He passed away Monday, September 1, 2003 in
the family home at the age of 61 years, 10 months and 17 days. He married Doris
Jean LaRue July 15, 1961. To this union four sons were born; Mark, Joe, Jeff and
Matt. They lived in Ferguson for 10 years coming home to the Wigger family farm
a lot of weekends-then lived in the Courtois area the rest of his life.
They bought the farm from his parents in 1973. Robert worked in many fields,
from general laborer to heavy equipment operator to electrical work to
mechanical work to shift foreman to truck driver and was nearing retirement at
the time of his illness. He was a member of Bellview Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his father, Olin Wigger. He is survived by his wife,
Doris of Courtois, Missouri; son Mark and wife Amy of Rover, Missouri; son Joe
of Cuba, Missouri; son Jeff and wife Kristi of Farmington, Missouri; son Matt
and wife Tiffany of Courtois, Missouri. Three wonderful grandchildren; Colten,
Dylan and Shelby and two more grandbabies on the way. His mother, Ollie Wigger,
of Courtois; three brothers; Philip Wigger, of South Carolina; Charles Wigger
and wife, Rebecca, of Courtois; and Tommy Wigger and wife, Sharon, of Belgrade;
and two sisters, Myrna Smith, of Michigan; and Margaret Midgett and husband,
Bob, of St. Louis. Robert joined Mt. Pleasant United Baptist Church at Goodland,
Missouri in May 1973 and later was ordained as a deacon and served his Church
well until the time of his death. He has now attained his goal but his family,
friends and neighbors will miss him deeply. Funeral service for Robert Eugene
Wigger was 11 a.m. Thursday, September 4, 2003, at James & Gahr Chapel with
Rev. Garry Mathes officiating. Music was provided by Jeff Black as soloist
with Mark Mathhes as organist. Bill Jenkins spoke and read a eulogy from the
family. A tribute was paid to Robert with a picture slide show accompanied
by favorite taped selections. Pallbearers were Kevin Wigger, Philip Wigger,
Terry LaRue, Michael LaRue, Dennis LaRue and Tim LaRue. Interment was in
Sam Crocker Cemetery, Iron County, with all arrangements under the direction
of James & Gahr Mortuary.
Sevilley Iretta Murray Yelton
Sevilley Iretta Murray Yelton was born on August 27, 1940 in Reynolds County
and passed away August 24, 2003 in Columbia at the age of 62 years, 11 months
and 27 days. She was the daughter of George Washington and Flossie (Terrill)
Watson.Sevilley was untied in marriage to Harold (Eddie) Murray and to this
union five children were born. She was later united in marriage to William
Yelton. At the time of her death she was a member of the Gladden Baptist
Church of Salem. Preceding her in death were her parents and three brothers,
Theodore Watson, Lovell Watson and Elvie Watson. She is survived by her five
children, Kenneth Murray and wife Carolyn of Newburg; Jeffrey Murray and wife
Laura of Cuba; Calvin Murray and wife Phyllis of Cuba; Ramona Beasley and
husband Keith of Steelville; Tonia Righter and husband Jimmy of Steelville;
and two step-daughters, Menda Gilbert and husband Scott of Brumley; and Vickie
Clark of Rolla. She is also survived by five brothers, Ondo Watson and wife
Mildred of Salem; Calvin Watson and wife Domalee of Salem; Buren Watson and
wife Eileen of Pekin, Illinois; Jolly Watson of St. James; Ronnie Watson and
wife Sue of Williamsburg; and one sister Imo Dooley of Salem.Sevilley loved
the outdoors. She enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with her family.
Her family meant so much to her that even when feeling weak she insisted on
attending a family reunion. Her most recent employment was as a laborer at
Dura Automotive in Moberly, Missouri. She will be deeply missed by her
children, step children, 10 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, four
step-grandchildren, neices, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held on August 27, 2003 in the Wilson Mortuary Chapel
with Bro. Jim Privett officating. Beverly Wilson was the pianist and special
CD's of Mrs. Yelton were played. Honoring their loved one as a pallbearer were
Phil Watson, David Jacquin, Charles Dooley, Randy Watson, Tony Watson and
Scott Watson. Interment was in the Rector Cemetery of rural Salem.
