MO Local Obituaries for the Week of Sept. 25, 2002 Willis Dryden Hopkins Willis Dryden Hopkins was born Tuesday, May 7, 1912, at Steelville, Mo., a son of the late Harold and Ardena (Keithly) Hopkins. He entered eternal rest Thursday, September 19, 2002, in the Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Sullivan, Mo., at the age of 90 years, 4 months and 12 days. On New Year's Eve, December 31, 1931, at the Baptist Parsonage in Steelville, Mo., the Pastor G. Owens Baxter united Willis in marriage to Cherie Celeste Ashworth. One daughter and one son were born to this union. They have enjoyed over seventy years together. In addition to his parents, two brothers, Levi Hopkins and Glenn Hopkins and wife Marie; four sisters, Frances and husband Earl Hanks, Bennie and husband Kenneth Perkins, Alice Matlock, and Margie and husband Frank Grady preceded Willis in death. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife Celeste of Steelville, Mo.; one daughter, Georgia Beth and husband Jim Barksdale, also of Steelville; one son Larry Hopkins and wife June of St. Charles, Mo. Five grandchildren, Kim Barksdale of Merriam, Kansas, Kevin Barksdale and wife Terry of Springfield, Jan and husband Tom Weisel of Steelville, Mo., David Hopkins and wife Jane, Denise and husband Tom Prigge all of St. Charles, Mo. Seven great-grandchildren Sarah Weisel, Steven Barksdale, Adam Barksdale, Daniel Hopkins, Jamie Hopkins, Brook Prigge and Page Prigge. One sister-in-law, Theresa Hopkins of Moberly, Mo.; one brother-in-law, Kenneth Matlock of St. James, Mo.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Willis Dryden Hopkins lay in state 5-9 p.m. Saturday, September 21, 2002, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2002, at the First Baptist Church, Steelville, Mo. with Dr. Cardis Bryan officiating. Kent Howald gave eulogy. The First Baptist Church Choir, under the direction of Scott Halbert, provided musical selections with Carolyn Hawkins pianist. Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were James Brand, John Britton, Ken Brown, Charles Chipman, Art Cook, Wilber Grayson, Charles Hawkins, Rob Housewright, Kent Howald, Charles Lint, Bob Midyett, Floyd Reed, Steve Stites and Jeff Tolley. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Noda Elizabeth Walls Noda Elizabeth Walls (nee Pyatt) formerly of Cuba, Mo. passed away on Friday, September 13, 2002 at the age of 95 years, 1 month and 26 days. Noda was preceded in death by her husband Samual Walls, her parents, Andrew and Delia (Lunsford) Pyatt, two sons, Jerry and David Walls, one brother, Corbit Pyatt, two sisters, Hazel Reeves and Bessie Grover. On September 18, 1930 Noda was united in marriage to Samual Walls at Cuba, Mo. Four sons, James, Alvin, Jerry, and David and one daughter, Agnes, were born to this union. They were happily married until Samual preceded her in death. Noda was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cuba, Mo. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her two sons, James Walls and wife Ada, Alvin Walls and wife Betty; one daughter, Agnes Cook; one daughter-in-law Arnetta Walls; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Noda was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Noda Elizabeth Walls was at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. where funeral services were held on Sunday, September 15, 2002 with Rev. Rick Walls officiating. Interment was in the Lea Cemetery, Leasburg, Mo.
