MO Local Obituaries for the Week of September 26, 2012 Lori Lee “Loretta” Anderson Lori Lee “Loretta” Anderson, nee Santhuff, was born January 1, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri to Jessie Lyman and Mary Matildia Goodson Santhuff and passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, Illinois at the age of 73 years. After high school, she moved away and started her family and eventually had three children. She was very musically talented and loved to sing and play her guitar. Her dream was to become a singer and she was fortunate enough to make recordings of two songs, “Raleigh you’re not easy” and “When you do something wrong, Do it right.” Lori Lee loved to cook and was good at it. Her favorite foods to serve were chicken and dumplings and “Hawaiian slaw.” One thing she did not like was to clean up the dishes. When she was younger she would always have to take a nap after eating which meant her sisters had to do the dishes. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Mary Santhuff; one brother, Bill Santhuff; one sister, Shirley Faye Monroe and husband Lyman; sister-in-law, Lelah Santhuff; and brother-in-law, Ron Bouse. She is survived by two sons, Eddie Ackerman and wife Beverly of New Baden, Illinois and Rod Ackerman Jr. of Hilo, HI; one daughter, Linda Kahooilihale of Hilo, Hawaii; two brothers, Bob Santhuff of Steelville, Missouri and Ronnie Santhuff of Sinton, Texas; two sisters, Joyce Bouse of Steelville, Missouri and Delores Goad and husband Don of Cedar Hill, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Pat Santhuff of Piedmont, Missouri; many grandchildren; several great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until time of service on Monday, September 17, 2012 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2012 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Special music of “How Great Thou Art” and “Mansion over the Hilltop” was played and sung by Joyce Bouse on piano, John Santhuff on guitar and Brock Bouse. Two recorded songs of Lori Lee’s “Raleigh, You’re not easy” and “When you do Something wrong, Do it right” were played. Other music of “Reunion” was played. Committal prayer and burial were in the Fair View Cemetery at Butts, Missouri. Wilma “Jean” Grayson Becker Wilma “Jean” Grayson Becker of Portage des Sioux, Missouri was born June 19, 1927 in Cuba, Missouri to William Arthur “Art” and Esther Hallie Evans Grayson and passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital West at the age of 85 years. Jean was a retired housekeeper at Greenbriar County Club and prior nanny to many loving families in the St. Louis County area. She loved to do needlework, draw and write about her life story, leaving her children and grandchildren loving memories. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, William and Esther Grayson; two brothers, Gerald Grayson and Charles Grayson of Cuba, Missouri. She is survived by eight children, Theresa Rush of Wentzville, Missouri, Gail (Don) Messner of St. Peters, Missouri, Susan (Henry) Kumpf of Clyde, North Carolina, Karen Becker of St. Louis, Missouri, Richard Becker II of Sullivan, Missouri, Edwin Becker (Jacqueline) of Lees Summit, Missouri, Linda (Frank) Blair of Fenton, Missouri, Janet (Mike) Black of Bowling Green, Missouri; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Ronald James Brake Ronald James Brake of Bourbon, Missouri passed away on Friday, September 7, 2012 at the age of 49 years. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Brake nee Britton of the family home; one son, R.J. Brake of Bourbon, Missouri; one daughter, Sabrina Brake of Bourbon, Missouri; his parents, Jim and step-mother, Dorothy Brake of Sullivan, Missouri; one brother, Jim Isgriggs and wife Annette of Sullivan, Missouri; a granddaughter, Miley Brake; other relatives and friends. Buddy Lee “Bud” Fowler Jr. Buddy Lee “Bud” Fowler Jr. of St. James, Missouri was born on February 13, 1957 in Yrek, California to Bud Lee and Barbara Lee (Young) Fowler and passed away at his home on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at the age of 55 years, 7 months and 11 days. He was united in marriage to Gloria Ann Wilson on February 18, 1983 in Rolla, Missouri. Bud as he was known or B.J., worked at Wal-Mart D.C. for nine years, and worked for Phil Branstetter as a carpenter for over six years. He moved from California to Ft. Wood when in the service and relocated here when he got out of the service. Bud was a member of the Broadway Baptist Church in rural St. James, Missouri, being baptized on February 13, 201l. He loved to hunt and fish and take his girls fishing with him. He liked to camp and to cook. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Lee (Young) Fowler. He is survived by his wife of the home, Gloria Ann Fowler; two daughters, Gracie Louise Fowler and Ivy Maylee Fowler of St. James, Missouri; one son, Steven Glenn Fowler of Montana; father, Bud Lee Fowler of Gazelle, California; one brother, Bill Fowler and wife Linda of Weed, California; other relatives and friends. Benjamin Grubaugh Benjamin “Ben” Franklin Grubaugh, Jr. of Cuba, Missouri was born to Benjamin Franklin Grubaugh, Sr. and Martha Gertrude McKellips Grubaugh on Tuesday, October 30, 1928 in North Platte, Nebraska and passed away on Friday, September 21, 2012 at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 22 days. Ben served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Margaritte Bess Stovall on February 4, 1956 in Steelville, Missouri and to this union four children were born. He worked several years at Brown Shoe in Steelville, Missouri and also at Debs Shoe Industry in Owensville, Missouri. He later was a painter at the Chrysler Plant in Fenton, Missouri where he retired from after 22 years. He then worked in the lawn and garden department at Cuba Wal-Mart for 13 years. He was a member of the UAW and Trinity Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bird watching, woodworking, gardening, and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinal ball team. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Sr. and Martha Grubaugh; brothers, Henry (Nadine) Grubaugh, Matt (Lou) Grubaugh and Wayne (Eloise) Grubaugh; sisters, Nellie (Chet) Griffith, Dolly (Robert) Wood and Anna (Ike) Steck and brother-in-law, Dwight Stovall. Elmer George Honse Elmer George Honse of Rolla, Missouri was born in rural Phelps County on January 6, 1917 to Hiram E. and Elsie (Bossman) Honse and passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Marianna Maxwell on June 15, 1941 and to this union four children were born. During World War II Elmer served in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre. At the end of the war he returned to Missouri and his family. Being a man of many talents, he had several occupations before becoming a full time carpenter and a proud member of the Carpenters Local Union No 2298 for over 40 years. Elmer was active in the Church of God where he served on the board of trustees and donated his time, skills and knowledge on the church’s construction projects. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram and Elsie Honse; wife, Marianna Honse; infant son, Roger; and two sisters, Bertha Kurtz and Mildred Parker. Max Paul Jones Max Paul Jones of Steelville, Missouri was born to Robert and Lively Jones on October 18, 1941 in Piedmont, Missouri and passed away August 24, 2012 at the age of 70 years. He was united in marriage to Becky A. Coleman on April 10, 1971. They lived in House Springs, Missouri for 22 years. Max retired from Sunnen Products in December 1992. In his spare time, he enjoyed restoring old cars, fishing and hunting. He was a member of Cuba Bible Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Becky Jones of Steelville, Missouri; three daughters, Angela (Steve) Anderson of Fenton, Missouri, Tamella (Dan) Garibaldi of St. Louis, Missouri and Julie Crocker of High Ridge, Missouri; five grandchildren, Megan Moore, John and Joey Anderson, and Trinity and Brennan Crocker; brother of Jackie (Cecil) Seachrist, Bernadine (Hollis) Lewis and the late Bobby Jones, Wanda Jones, and Kay Brooks. Bert Harold West, Jr. Bert Harold West, Jr. was born October 1, 1930 in Leasburg, Missouri to Bert Harold and Bertha Edith Bryan West, Sr. and passed away Sunday, September 16, 2012 at the home of his son in Bourbon, Missouri at the age of 81 years. He was married to Effie Maxine Brewer. Bert lived in Sullivan, Missouri before moving to Bourbon, Missouri. Bert was very proud of his service to his country serving in the United States Air Force for 20 years encompassing the Korean War. After retiring from the Air Force he worked for 17 years at Pea Ridge Mining Company retiring from there in 1992.  Bert was an avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing and hunting and just being in nature. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert Sr. and Edith West; his wife, Effie on July 6, 2006; daughter, Beverly Schatzl; and two brothers, Fred David and George Edward Halbert. He is survived by his son, Steve and wife Sherry West of Bourbon, Missouri; two daughters, Cynthia and husband Scott Kesler and Suzette and husband Dwayne Brown, both of Sullivan, Missouri; three brothers, Roy E. West of Las Vegas, Nevada, John C. West of Belin, New Mexico and Ronald E. Larry Whitaker Larry Whitaker of Salem, Missouri was born on August 5, 1930 to Carl and Susie (Parker) Whitaker and passed away September 19, 2012 at the age of 82 years. Larry proudly served his country in both the United States Navy and the United States Air Force. Larry joined the Navy before his 18th birthday when the United States was fighting Japan during WWII. After his time in the Navy was up, Larry re-enlisted and chose the United States Air Force for his next mission. He was united in marriage to Doris Inman on November7, 1954, and to this union three children were born. Larry had one son prior to his marriage to Doris, so together they now enjoyed raising four children. Larry worked as a coil winder at Westinghouse Electric in Jefferson City, Missouri until his retirement. He was a member of the Dry Fork Baptist Church and the American Legion Post #99. He loved playing music and being outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Susie Whitaker; his son, Stanley Whitaker; brothers, Harold and Donald Whitaker; sisters, Elizabeth Bryant and Patsy Sue Gibbs.
