MO Local Obituaries for the Week Sept. 30, 2005 William Dale Blunt William Dale Blunt of Cuba, Missouri, was born May 12, 1915, to the union of James F. Blunt and Mabel (nee Mallow) Blunt, and left from this life on Saturday, September 24, 2005 at Life Care Center of Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 90 years, 4 months and 12 days. Dale was an assistant postmaster and served in the Army during WWII from February 1945 until November 1946. Dale is preceded in death by his parents, wife Florence, nee Hammers, Blunt and brothers and sisters. Those who survive to mourn his passing are his sons Donald Charles Bentsen and Harold "Bud" McCrary and four grandchildren. Dale gave the gift of donation to Washington University School of Medicine so that others might have the opportunity to live longer and healthier lives. Family is being serviced by Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri. Noral O'Dell Brown Noral O'Dell Brown of Steelville, Missouri passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2005. He was 53 years of age. Noral was born on December 27, 1951 in Velejo, California to Ruben and Ernestine Taylor of California. Noral is survived by his parents: Ruben and Ernestine Taylor of California; daughters, Tiffany Brown of Salem, Missouri and Tousha Vannatter of Texas; seven other daughters in California; grandchildren, Stachia and Arianna of Texas; Garret and Jamie of Salem, Missouri; sisters, Judy, Patty and Roxanne, all of California; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was loved and remembered by many. Preceded in death is father, Byron Brown; one brother, Bob Brown and one sister, Michelle Porter. Addie Elizabeth Coleman Addie Elizabeth Coleman was born, Tuesday June 8, 1910, at Seator, Missouri, a daughter of the late Cornelius "Tiny" Payne and Mary McWhorter Payne. She entered eternal rest Monday September 19, 2005, at the Gibbs Care Center, Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 95 years, 3 months and 11 days. Addle was united in marriage to Clifford Henderson Coleman. One son Wilbur Henderson Coleman was born to this union. Both Clifford and Will preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and four brothers; Alma Jean (her twin) and husband Andrew Coleman, Ada Mae and husband, George Pounds, Ruth and husband Clifford Brown, Geraldine Payne, Ernest Payne, Virgil Payne and wife Julie, Jewell Payne and wife Jean and Robert L. Payne; and brothers-in-law, John Payne and Sweeney Benton. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her daughter-in-law, Ruth Coleman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; two grandsons, "JR." Wilbur H. Carol Crowe Carol Jean Crowe, Owensville, Missouri, died Monday, September 19, 2005 at St. John's Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri. She was 49 years old. Mrs. Crowe was born in Washington on October 30, 1955 to Eugene and Irma Kaase Glaser. She married Randall Crowe on June 7, 1975 at Zion United Church of Christ in Union. She earned her Master's Degree in Education and taught for 27 years, 25 of those in the Owensville School District. Most recently, she was the director of Special Services for Owensville R-II School District. She belonged to the Zion Evangelical Church in Bland, Missouri. Preceding her in death were here mother, Irma Glaser and her mother and father-in-law, Freddie and Ella Crowe. She is survived by her husband, Randall; her father, Eugene Glaser of Beaufort, Missouri; two sons, Matt and wife Tammie of Ft. Polk, Louisiana and Jason and wife Sarah of Gerald, Missouri; a sister, Mary Walker of Wheaton, Illinois and a grandson. Visitation was Wednesday, September 21, 2005 at the Gottenstroeter Funeral Home, Owensville, Missouri. Funeral services were Thursday, September 22, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Church in Bland, Missouri with Rev. Dave Knudsen officiating. Interment was in the Old Bland Cemetery, Bland, Missouri. Irma Marie Fiebelman Funeral services for Irma Marie (Cottrell) Fiebelman were held September 15, 2005 at Hoffmeister Mortuary, St. Louis, Missouri with Ken Fiebelman officiating. Mrs. Fiebelman was born September 7, 1908 at Dillard to William R. and Cora Belle (Richards) Cottrell. She married Joe Fiebelman on December 23, 1932 in St. Louis, Missouri at city hall. They were parents of one daughter, Jean, of the home in St. Louis, Missouri. Also surviving is sister-in-law Marie Cottrell, Steelville, Missouri; nieces; nephews, cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband on August 25, 1971, her parents, three brothers Floyd, Cletus and infant; three sisters Alpha Sellers, Geraldine Miller and Vivian Cottrell. Irma grew up and attended school at Dillard, Missouri. She took pride as a member of Dillard High School's girls basketball team. She joined the Dillard Cumberland Presbyterian Church early in life. Later the family moved to St. Louis where they had lived many years. Joe was a salesman for Clinton Cadillac until his death. Interment was in Sunset Cemetery. Anna Novella Lindsey Anna Novella Lindsey nee Bradley of Cuba, Missouri was born on July 18, 1930 in Portageville, Missouri to the union of Arthur Bradley and Florence Hodges Bradley and passed away on Monday, September 19, 2005 at Cuba Manor at the age of 75 years 2 months and 11 days. Anna was a nurse's aid at Little Sisters of the Poor, St. Louis for a number of years. She is preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Brenda Kay Bowman and two brothers Homer and George Bradley. Those who survive to mourn her passing from life are two sons Robert Lee and wife Doris Bowman and Charles Martin Lindsey; seven daughters Rita Jean and husband Arlie Conners, Phyllis Ann and husband Jay Duncan, Patricia Gail and husband Helmut Lautenbacher, Pamela Lavern Lindsey, Tina Mae and husband Larry Hatton, Deborah June and husband Curtis Callahan and Sherry Lynn Keith. Anna was a wonderful loving mother, grandmother, and a good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Dr. Kathryn Louise Midyett, PhD Dr. Kathryn Louise Midyett was born Sunday, March 24, 1935, at Huzzah, Missouri, the eldest daughter of John Goltra and Neva Viola (Wilkinson) Brown. She entered eternal life at her home in Steelville, Missouri, Saturday, September 17, 2005, at the age of 70 years, 5 months and 23 days. May 15, 1954, at the First Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri, Kathryn was united in marriage to her best friend, Robert G. Midyett, and to this union, a son and a daughter were born. On May 15, 2004, they renewed their wedding vows as they celebrated 50 years together. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted husband Robert G. Midyett and her loving children Robert J. Midyett and wife Karen and Michele Kenney and husband Michael Kinney of Florissant, Missouri; two sisters Sue and husband Gail Biggs and Shirley Brown of Cuba, Missouri; Four grandchildren Chris Midyett and wife Jennie of Fenton, Missouri, Patrick Midyett of Omaha, Nebraska, Kristin Kinney and Justin Kinney of Florissant, Missouri; great grandson Tyler Christopher Midyett and step great granddaughter Karlee Bruner of Fenton, Missouri; Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law William J. Midyett and wife Ella Mary, Louise Turnbough and husband Gilbert, Rosalie Midyett (Mrs. Earl), all of Steelville, Missouri, Lorraine Street of St. Louis, Missouri; nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and many friends. Kathryn graduated from Steelville High School, received her BS in Elementary Education from Harris Teacher's College, Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Southern Illinois University and her PhD in Education Administration from St. Louis University. She began teaching in a one room rural school in Crawford County, she taught first grade for 12 years and was respected member of the Ferguson-Florissant School District where she served as a remedial teacher, language arts coordinator, elementary school principal and Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education. When she became assistant superintendent of Ferguson-Florissant in 1975, she was one of only a few women in the state to reach that level in education administration. She retired in 1987. Kathryn was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Steelville where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Bible study classes, sang in the choir and together with Bob directed the Senior Adult Saints Alive group. She directed the Community Development activities for Steelville and she and Bob were chosen as Steelville's Citizen of the Year in 1991. Kathryn was very proud of her rich heritage and was very active in the genealogical societies of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution and the 17th Century Colonial Dames. She had the honor of being chosen to carry the flag of the United States down Constitution Avenue in the Washington D.C. Fourth of July parade. She will be remembered for her love of children, music and animals, her sense of humor, her tremendous will and determination and her indefatigable devotion to her husband, family and friends. Kathyrn Louise Midyett lay in state Sunday, September 18, 2005 from 4-9 p.m. at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were conducted Monday, September 19, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri, with Rev. Kevin Farr and Rev. Jesse Parrett officiating. Musical selections were provided by vocalists Bruce Turnbough (cousin), Kay and Robert Housewright and Joyce Vaughn and accompanist Helen Platter. Committal prayers and interment was in Brown Cemetery, located on the original Brown homestead, rural Steelville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were former colleagues, elementary school principals of Ferguson-Florissant School District. Homer Ensly Perkins Homer Ensly Perkins, son of Rebecca Jane Snoddy and John Washington Perkins, was born Monday, December 14, 1915 on the family farm 3.5 miles west of Steelville, Missouri. He passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2005, in Missouri Baptist Hospital at Sullivan, Missouri. On November 6, 1938, in Waynesville, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Mary Virginia Burroughs of Thomasville, Missouri and to this union two sons were born, Robert Charles Perkins and James Burroughs Perkins. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rebecca Perkins, his wife Virginia Perkins and one son James Perkins. Also one sister Flossie Wright and husband Lewy, six brothers and wives, Warren and Fern Housewright Perkins, Curtis and Bernice Gibbons Perkins, Grant and Evelyn Gibbons Perkins, Lawrence (Tick) and Lucille Baloun Perkins, Kenneth and Bernie Hopkins Perkins and Arlie Perkins. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his loving son Bob Perkins of Steelville, Missouri, his wonderful daughter-in-law Marti Perkins of Naples, Florida and three grandchildren and families: Jamie and husband Rob Sweeney of Manningtree, England, Robert "Bobby" Perkins and wife Casey of Atlanta, Georgia and Russell Perkins of Rolla, Missouri, nephews, nieces and many friends and extended family. He was a member of Steelville Presbyterian Church and served both as Deacon and Elder. In 1964, he and wife Virginia represented the state of Missouri as Skippers of the Mariners, a young couples organization of the Presbyterian Church. Homer and Virginia also represented the state of Missouri at the Mariners National Convention in Kearny, Nebraska. He was also a member of Lebanon Lodge #77 since 1939. He served his community many years as a businessman, a leader in civic and community organizations, including the Boy Scouts, was an original member of the Steelville Booster Club, City Alderman, Steelville School Board, Steelville Homes, Finance Fund Raising Committee for the Brown Shoe Company expansion and when San Val came to town, Crawford County Welfare Board and the Crawford County Selective Service System. He and his family helped in obtaining the land for the new Steelville Community Park. He has served as Commander of both the American Legion and VFW posts. After graduating from High School in 1934, Homer held many jobs, including working at Chaumire Farms, Steelville Post Office, Crawford County Collector, TNT Plant in Weldon Springs, Oregon County Farmers General Merchandise Store and Stough Meat Market. During World War II Homer served overseas in the European Theatre as a rifleman with E, F and H Companies, 2nd Battalion of the 313rd Infantry Regiment of the 79th Infantry Division. He saw much front line duty and was awarded many medals. The two he was very proud of were the Combat Infantry Badges and the Bronze Star. His unit was awarded five Bronze stars for taking part in five major campaigns, Normandy, Northern France, Alsace Lorraine, Rhineland and Central Europe. Homer joined the Gibson Lumber Company as a partner in 1950. When Mr. Gibson retired in 1968, Homer and Virginia purchased his interest and the company was changed to Perkins Lumber Company. They each worked there together until their retirement in 1980. He loved fishing, hunting and all sports, especially high school basketball. He was a devoted and loving son, brother, brother-in-law, father, grandfather, father-in-law, uncle, cousin, friend and neighbor. He will be missed. Committal prayers and interment was in Steelville Cemetery with full Military Honors. Honoring Homer as pallbearers were Ron Aubrecht, Bobby Perkins, John Perkins, Neil Perkins, Edwin Wright and Johnny Wright. Leava Cleo Scott Leava Cleo Gillam Scott passed to be with Christ on Friday, September 16, 2005 in Rolla, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Scott was born on Saturday, April 24, 1920 in Courtois, Missouri to James Preston Gillam and Effie Annie Watts Gillam. She confessed her faith in Christ and was baptized in 1958 in Steelville, Missouri. She spent her youth and teen years on the family farm in the rural communities of Courtois and Good Water, Missouri. It was here that she met Harlin Scott of the same area and they were married on November 20, 1941. To this marriage was born one son, Lovell P. Scott. Soon the family moved to Steelville, Missouri where they had a small farm. They lived in the area until her death. Cleo, as her family and friends knew her, enjoyed the farm life and until health no longer permitted. She took great pride in gardening, her farm animals and the general atmosphere of the outdoors. She was an excellent chef and delighted family and visitors to her home with delicious meals and tasty treats. Her baked hams were noteworthy far and wide. She will be missed by her family and many friends. She leaves her husband, Harlin P. Scott of Steelville, Missouri; their son Lovell Scott of Moscow Mills, Missouri; granddaughter Kathy Rosler and husband Joe Rosler, St. Charles, Missouri; grandson James Scott and wife Denise of Moscow Mills, Missouri; great grandson Travis Scott, of the same address. She will also be missed by sisters-in-law Eula Ogle of Sullivan, Missouri and Geneva Scott of Viburnum, Missouri. Her family was an integral part of her life. Cleo will be remembered fondly by her extended family of many cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her mother and father, Preston and Effie Gillam; four brothers Reldon (Joe) and Mildred Gillam, Ralph Gillam, Radis Gillam and Lelburn Gillam; and two sisters Rita Gillam and Zelma and Bertis Boulch. Grant Holmes Shank Grant Holmes Shank of Cuba, Missouri was born on July 18, 1918 in Dayton, Ohio to the union of Leigh Holmes Shank and Laura V. Kolb Shank and passed away on Friday, September 23, 2005 at Cuba Manor at the age of 87 years 2 months and 5 days. Grant was united in marriage December 8, 1945 to Fern L. Bremer in Muncie, Indiana. Grant worked as a draftsman for Fleming Mfg. Co, was an active member of the Cuba Senior Center and a cattle farmer. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Fern; two sisters Frances Ary and Virginia and husband Jay Brown; and one brother Kenneth K. Shank. Those who survive to mourn his passing from life are one brother Fred D. and wife Mary Jo Shank of Dayton, Ohio; three nieces; three nephews, other family members and dear friends. Grant was a wonderful loving husband, brother, uncle and good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
