MO Local Obituaries for the Week of September 30, 2015 Clarence "Barney" Franklin Barnhill Jr. Clarence "Barney" Franklin Barnhill Jr. of Steelville, Missouri and formerly of Paragould, Arkansas was born August 18, 1934 in Paragould, Arkansas to Clarence Sr. and Lucille Potter Barnhill and passed away Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the age of 81 years, 1 month and 8 days. He married Nancy Pearline May in August of 1955 and she passed away February of 2003. He later married Frances Marlene Setzer on November 16, 2003. Barney farmed several years in Arkansas and then later went to work for McDonnell-Douglas where he retired in 1974. In his retirement years, he worked as a transporter for a commercial RV company. He attended Canaan Community Church at Cook Station, Missouri. In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting toy trucks and clipping magazine articles. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Nancy; two brothers-in-law, Robert Setzer and Granville Setzer; and sister-in-law, Almeda Howdeshell Campbell and husband Willard. He is survived by his wife, Frances Barnhill of Steelville, Missouri; two sons, Mike May and wife Mary of Weldon Springs, Missouri and Frank M. Andrew "Drew" Griffin Carter Andrew "Drew" Griffin Carter of St. James, Missouri was born on December 23, 1991 in Atlanta, Georgia to Tim and Jill Wright Carter and passed away on Friday, September 18, 2015 at the age of 23 years, 8 months and 26 days. Drew graduated from John F. Hodge High School in St. James, Missouri and furthered his education with four years of college plus two years at Culinary School. Drew lived life to the fullest no matter what he was doing. He also was a chef at the Boot Leg BBQ in St. Louis, Missouri. Shelby Franklin "Frank" Cason Shelby Franklin "Frank" Cason of Cuba, Missouri was born December 27, 1944 at Independence, Missouri to Ted Sr. and Ruth Harrison Cason and passed away Monday, September 21, 2015 at the age of 70 years. Frank married Bonnie Chandler of January 26, 1963 at Brother Echols home in Cuba, Missouri and to this union two children were born. Frank started is career working for Hutcheson Ford, and then he owned and operated Cason Auto Sales in Cuba for a while. Frank went to work for St. James Salvage selling auto parts and he worked there for 15 years. He also worked at Miller Salvage. In his younger years he enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, horseback riding and breaking horses. As a teenager Frank had a 57 Convertible Chevy and many years he would buy and trade old cars. He attended many car shows. After retiring, Frank could be found at Voss Truck Port at 5:00 in the morning have coffee with the group. He spent hour's wood working, cutting grass and watching western movies. He was preceded in death by his father, Ted Cason Sr.; mother, Ruth Cothern; step father, Dean Cothern; brother, James Harrison; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Thurman and Oneda Chandler. Robert Doney Sr. Robert Doney Sr. of Owensville, Missouri was born November 16, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri to Luther Doney and Alice nee Sanders and passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015 at the age of 83 years. On November 11, 1956 he was united in marriage to Joyce Dorian in St. Louis, Missouri. Robert served his country in the United States Navy seeing action in the Korean War. While in active service he was selected to play competitive basketball for the Navy. He worked as a Missouri State Trooper from June 30, 1955 until his retirement on September 1, 1989. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Doney and Alice Greer; his wife, Joyce Doney; and his daughter, Paula Doney. "Tillie" Harris of Cuba, Missouri was born May 6, 1923 at Duisburg, Germany to Ludwig and Emma M (Riechmann) Sudmeyer and passed away on Friday, September 25, 2015 at the age of 92 years. Tillie moved to the United States from Germany, with her mother, at the age of three. Tillie was united in marriage to John H. Harris on October 16, 1941 at the Emmaus Lutheran Church, St. Louis, Missouri. They enjoyed nearly 57 years of marriage before John passed away on April 24, 1998. Tillie graduated from high school in 1941 and shortly after started working for Purina. She was the treasure manager of the Purina Credit Union when she retired after 25 years of dedicated service. In the late 60s Tillie and John moved to Cuba and purchased a rock home on Highway O. Tillie owned and operated a fabric store in Cuba for a few years, she worked for Bill Wallis and ended her working career helping her husband at the Son Advertising Sign Company, until they both retired in 1983. Tillie was an excellent seamstress and during her working career she made all of her own clothing. Tillie enjoyed crafts, making silk flower arrangementing, knitting, helping at church and enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals. Tillie didn't drive till several years after they moved to Cuba, Missouri. She would take a cab everywhere. Tillie was a 20-year member of the Cuba United Methodist Church, member of the Golden Mariners and every year Tillie would get up at church and recite the "Christmas Story" from memory. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ludwig and Emma Sudmeyer; and husband, John Harris. Faye was united in marriage on January 6, 1944, at Kansas City, Kansas to Charles H. Lamb and to this union two children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles on February 25, 2001; her parents, George and Jenny Bond; one great grandson, Benjamin Casey Lamb; one brother, George Allen Bond; and one sister, Minnie Bond. Faye was a lifetime member of the Mt. View Church of Christ and a current member of the Cuba Church of Christ. She had taught sixth grade at the Crocker Schools retiring after 25 years. Poskin of St. James, Missouri was born August 24, 1930 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Eldred and Viola (Meyers) Poskin and passed away Monday, September 21, 2015 at the age of 85 years. Don proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1947-1952. He then attended the University of Missouri and graduated with a Business Degree. He was united in marriage to Betty George on August 21, 1954 and they had two children. Don went to work at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James where he served for many years as the assistant director and director. After being the director, he went on to supervise the building of new Veterans Homes across the state. He really enjoyed working with contractors making sure they understood the blueprints and what needed to be done. He had several hobbies that he enjoyed including building and flying airplanes and he kept his pilot's license up for many years. He loved racing, sports cars, and motorcycles. Don and Betty enjoyed traveling and belonged to the "SMART" (Special Military Active & Retired Travel) Club. Don enjoyed the community and took a special interest in local politics. He was a member and past president of the St. James Chamber of Commerce, and he served for many years on the St. James City Council. He enjoyed tinkering around in his workshop. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldred and Viola Poskin. He is survived by his wife, Betty; children, Karyn Larson and husband Steve of Memphis, Tennessee and Stephen Poskin and wife Brooke of Cedar Hill, Missouri; grandsons, Cody and Gage; sister, Delores Scott and husband Dewey of Affton, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Hazel married Hollis Stricklin in Paw Paw, Michigan on August 27, 1962 and to this union five children were born. She was a wonderful homemaker and also worked as a seamstress in the shoe industry. She enjoyed woodworking, gardening, nature, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
