James proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean war. He married Jeanie Field on March 26, 1966. James opened an auto repair shop in Rolla, Missouri where he also sold batteries and chainsaws, etc. He was a fix it guy and could fix just about anything. He was an avid coon hunter, he enjoyed fishing and deer hunting, although later in his life he didn't get into deer hunting as much as Jeanie did. So while she went out and got the deer, James was always the one who cleaned it for her. Rarely did you ever see James without Jeanie. They loved to yard sale, not so much that they needed anything, they just enjoyed getting out together and visiting with people. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Mae Bax; and his sister, Alice Ziegler. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jeanie Bax of the home; daughter, Rebecca Merrell and husband Frank of Flat, Missouri; brother, Donley Bax and wife Sandra of Columbia, South Carolina; other relatives and friends. On January 23, 2017 in Steelville, Missouri Gloria married Bruce Benson. Gloria enjoyed needle work and crocheting. When her health permitted she loved to bowl. William Charles "Will" Boettcher William Charles "Will" Boettcher of Bourbon, Missouri was born in St. Louis, Missouri on October 14, 1952 to Wilbur and Gladys (Brasier) Boettcher and passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020 at the age of 67 years. He grew up to be a kind, selfless man, with a generous heart and loving spirit. Will so enjoyed riding his Harley's and listening to his music. He was always looking forward to dinners and socializing with his friends...there were bonfires, target shooting and many other great times. Pearl "Lucille" Bowers Pearl "Lucille" Bowers (nee Gamblin) was born November 11, 1921 in Dent County, Missouri to Edmond Green and Myrtle Ann Whitaker Gamblin and passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at the age of 98 years, 10 months and 12 days, Lucille grew up on a farm with loving parents who knew the Lord and where prayer, reading the Bible and going to church were important to the family of 10. She and her family attended New Home Baptist Church and she was saved at a young age. On May 27, 1944 in Salem, Arkansas she married Minyard "Min" Ross Bowers. She and her husband, Min, raised their family in Howes Mill, Missouri where Lucille stayed home and took care of the children along with farm work. After her husband passed away Lucille moved from the farm into Salem, Missouri where Lucille eventually went to work. She became employed at Wal-Mart a few months after it opened and where she remained until retirement in 1987. Lucille was a long-time faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Salem, Missouri where she helped in the children's classes, attended the FBC women's group and the BASICS group until her health declined. Lucille enjoyed making quilts, sewing, gardening, flower gardening, oil painting, cooking, shopping and traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Myrtle Gamblin; her husband, Min Bowers; her parents-in-law, Esco and Delphia Bowers; a son-in-law, Jim Brittain; grandson, Chris Brittain; two brothers, Carl Gamblin and Burton (Betty) Gamblin; four sisters, Alta (Raymond) Lay, Myrna (Bruce) Bergman, Leah (Earl) Tune and Dorris (Russell) Compton; and brothers-in-law, Thurman Wisdom and Bill Schescke. He married Judith Ann Watson on August 26, 1961 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was a loving and sometimes a mischievous brother to his 14 siblings. Bob was a strong believer in Jesus Christ, his Lord and Saviour and the Word of God. He dutifully served our country in the Army-Air Force and National Guard. In his younger years Bob served in the Army, Air Force as an airplane mechanic and the National Guard. He left the service and went on to do other things by becoming a carpenter doing painting and taping and retiring after 30 years. He drove from St. James, Missouri to St. Louis, Missouri and back every day so he could be with Judy and his girls in the evenings. He build and remodeled homes for his wife, girls and numerous family and friends. He then joined the Army Reserves retiring as a tank commander. He served a total of 23 and a half years in the Armed Services. He married June Margaret Trew on June 4, 2016 in St. James, Missouri. Before moving to St. James, Missouri, Jeff attended the First Baptist Church of Bonne Terre, Missouri for many years. Jeff worked for McDonald's in Desloge, Missouri for 27 years then moved to St. James, Missouri in May 2016 to marry his wife June. Jeff transferred to St. James McDonald's where he worked for four years. Jeff was known and loved by all who knew him from both places of McDonald's for a total of 31 years (1989-2020). Jeff graduated in 1987 from Farmington High School and also graduated in 1989 from Mineral Area College in Park Hills, Missouri with an Associates Degree. Jeff was a member of First Assembly of God in St. James, Missouri. He was spirit-filled and baptized into Pentecost. Jeff was involved in the men's ministry where he participated in meetings, fund raisers, trips and most of all the monthly Men's Breakfast which took place at Country Bob's Cafe on each first Saturday. He married Lenora Fern Sullivan on April 16, 1960. David later married Ruth Marshall on December 13, 1991 in St. Charles, Missouri. David graduated from Cherryville High School. After high school he became employed at Boeing in St. Louis, Missouri in the electrical engineering department retiring in 1999 after 41 years. He attended Evangelical Holiness Pentecostal Church in Cuba, Missouri for several years. In earlier years David loved to take his children camping and anywhere there was water he enjoyed swimming and playing. He also enjoyed camping and traveling. After moving back to the farm from St. Louis, Missouri in 2002 he put all of his heart into his farm. David enjoyed raising cattle, which was not an easy job, but loved the land, planting trees, gardening, using his tractor and hunting. He also loved animals, especially dogs. Alice Margaret Mendoza Alice Margaret Mendoza (nee Meade) of Cuba, Missouri was born on Wednesday, May 18, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri to Earl Leland and Dollie Irene (McGee) Meade and passed away on Friday, September 18, 2020 at the age of 82 years and 4 months. Alice married Robert "Bob" Joseph Mendoza on July 30, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri. Alice worked at a pen factory in St. Louis before moving to Cuba, Missouri in the early 1970's. The family owned and operated "LaCasa" restaurant in Cuba, Missouri for several years. After the restaurant closed, Alice worked a few years as a cook at Phelps County Regional Hospital in Rolla, Missouri. She had attended Deer Creek Baptist Church and Faith Chapel Assembly, both in Cuba, Missouri. Alice enjoyed needlepoint and make homemade quilts and afghans. She loved to read and study her bible and listen to gospel music. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Dollie Meade; husband, Robert "Bob" Mendoza; parents-in-law, Leonardo and Sarah Mendoza; sisters, Ethel (Willy) Belmar and Doris Meade; brother, Willard "Bill" (Dorothy) Meade; brothers-in-law, Tony Mendoza, Hank (Pat) Mendoza, Pete and Lou Mendoza, Walter Radford and Ben Dickie; sisters-in-law, Caren Meade and Mary Mendoza; and grandson, Davis Gene Dotson. She is survived by her children, Robert "Joe" Mendoza Jr. of St. James, Missouri, James Mendoza of Cuba, Missouri, Carla Mendoza of Jefferson City, Missouri, David (Brenda) Mendoza of Cuba, Missouri, Paul (Debbie) Mendoza of St. Charles, Missouri and Elania (Jesus) Padilla of Cuba, Missouri; brothers, Orvil (Fern) Meade and Frank (Beverly) Meade, both of Cuba, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Joann Dickie of Austin, Texas, Alice Radford and Nika Ruff, both of St. Louis, Missouri; brother-in-law, Donnie Mendoza of Duluth, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren, Elizabeth Mendoza, Anthony (Christine) Barton, Candice (Jeff) Kennedy, Angelita Mendoza, Danielle Mendoza, Katie Mendoza, Jasmine Mendoza, Nicole Mendoza, Alysia Dotson, Scottie Dotson Jr. and Jamien Dotson; five great grandchildren, Natalie Barrons, Destiny Bonebrake, Jerry Bonebrake, Dominic Barton and Quinn Kennedy; other relatives and friends. A joint funeral service and Celebration of Life for Alice and her husband Bob was held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2020 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri with Pastor Darla Buettner officiating. Edwin C. Morgan Edwin C. Morgan of Kansas City, Missouri was born November 11, 1937 in Maries County to August J. and Mary C. (Southard) Morgan and passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at the age of 82 years. Ed was Baptist by faith, baptized when he was young and faithful throughout his life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clinton, Missouri at the time of his death. Ed graduated from Belle High School in 1955 and served three years in the United States Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged in 1958. In 1962 Ed went to St. Louis, Missouri and went to work for Sunnen Products Company, a machine tool manufacturer, and worked for them until he retired the end of 1997. All but three years of that time he worked in the machine maintenance department with the last 11 1/2 years as the department supervisor. On April 20, 1963 he married Shirley Sue Elrod. They made their home in the St. Louis area, with the majority of the time living in Fenton, Missouri. In 1999 they retired to Clinton, Missouri. Ed enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ed was a quiet-natured, good, honest, hardworking man. He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Mary Morgan; two sisters, Idella White and Armenta Bridwell; one brother, Gus Morgan; two brothers-in-law, David White and Russell Bridwell; and one sister-in-law, Jean Morgan. He is survived by his wife, Sue of Kansas City, Missouri; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Kim Morgan of Platte City, Missouri; daughter, Ellen Kreitz of St. Louis, Missouri; two grandsons, Bradley Morgan and Chris Morgan of Platte City, Missouri; one sister and brother-in-law, Erma and Buck Drewel of Belle, Missouri; one brother and sister-in-law, Elston and Malinda Morgan of Corpus Christi, Texas; one sister-in-law, Jessie Licklider of St. James Missouri; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the Sassmann's Chapel in Belle, Missouri. Cathilene Thompson Cathilene (nee Henry) Thompson was born on May 5, 1929 in Cuba, Missouri to Mamie Pearl and William Henry and passed away on September 23, 2020 at the age of 91 years, 4 months and 18 days. Cathy was a great role model to the girls in the Henry family. She enjoyed sports, particularly softball and graduated from Cuba High School in 1947. She was briefly married to Rich Longacre. When they divorced, she supported herself and her son by working as a riveter during the Korean War. When her father passed away in 1954 the family moved to California. Cathy worked many years for GTE and found great satisfaction in her job. She started as a long-distance operator, often assisting celebrities and globetrotters. She was one of the first women to be promoted to frame maintainer, a highly technical job. She Dean Thompson in California on a blind date. They were married in Nevada and settled in Yucaipa, California. When they retired, they moved to Sun City, Arizona and enjoyed the friends and activities there. She loved sewing and when her son Mark passed away from AIDS, she made a quilt square to honor him in the national AIDS quilt. She also enjoyed reading and a variety of sports. Her last years were spent in Texas with her daughter Terri and Dale Balders and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mamie and William; sisters, Irene Ackerman and Alene McFarren; brothers, William (Bill) Henry and Robert Henry; husband, Dean; and sons, Rick and Mark. She is survived by her daughter, Terri; sister, Paulene Wagner; grandchildren, Michael and Jeremy Balders and DeAnn Thompson; great grandson, Kingsley; other relatives and friends.
