Rosalea Greathouse
Rosalea Greathouse of Steelville, Missouri was born October 4, 1922 in the
Highland Community of Crawford County to Noah and Clara (John) Housewright
and passed away Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the Phelps County Regional
Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 85 years.
On January 16, 1943, she was united in marriage to Ambrose Greathouse who
preceded her in death on October 11, 1996.
Rosalea was a member of the Cherryville Baptist Church and then the First
Baptist Church of Steelville since 1954.
She enjoyed quilting, gardening and canning. People from as far away as
Arizona and Maryland requested her hand quilting.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Charles Lee
Housewright, Robert G. Housewright and an infant brother; one sister,
Marceline Scrivner; five brothers-in-law, Mike Gooch, Joe Gooch, Leonard
Greathouse, Raymond Greathouse and LeRoy Greathouse; four sisters-in-law,
Connie Housewright, Annabelle Housewright, Hattie Dunkelberger and Kathleen
Gooch.
She is survived by her son, Paul Greathouse and wife Sandy of Steelville,
Missouri; one daughter, Dr. Lillian R. Greathouse of Charleston, Illinois;
one sister, Kathleen Burch of Rolla, Missouri; one brother-in-law, Mell
Scrivner of Rolla, Missouri; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Gooch, Loretta
Greathouse, and Geneva Gooch; one grandson, Wesley Greathouse of Steelville,
Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2008 at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Jerry Beers
officiating. Special music of “In the Garden” and “How Great Thou Art” was
sung by Carol Coleman and Shirley Brown accompanied on piano.
Committal prayer and burial were in the Steelville Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Robbie Housewright, Blake Housewright, Chris Housewright,
Kenneth Parrott, James Weber and Chuck Knipp.
Arrangements under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of
Steelville, Missouri.
Clarence Harnetz
Clarence Harnetz of Cuba, Missouri, was born September 24, 1940 in St. Louis,
Missouri to Charles and Eva (Hasting) Harnetz and passed away Friday,
September 19, 2008 at the age of 67 years.
Clarence served his country in the United States Air Force from 1963-1969. He
then went to work as a Union Pipefitter for Laclede Gas in St. Louis,
Missouri where he stayed until his retirement.
He was united in marriage to Ida “Christine” Littles on May 14, 1983.
He lived by the words that a stranger was just a friend you haven’t met yet.
He loved travel, music and spending time with family.
He was a member of the Moline Baptist Church, where he attended in his youth.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Manchester, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and sister, Bonnie Rackovan.
He is survived by his children, Karen Louise Gibson and husband Eric of
St. Louis, Missouri, Cherie Eva Harnetz of St. Louis, Missouri, William
Harnetz and wife Catherine of St. Louis, Missouri; step children, Dawn
Michelle Baker and Frank Paul Baker of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren,
Hannah Lewis, Austin Davis, Colton and Kira Harnetz; sisters, Shirley Dew
of Rolla, Missouri and Charlotte Williamson and husband Jerry of Rolla,
Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Wednesday, September 24, 2008 from 5-8 p.m.
Funeral service was Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 10 a.m. in the Rolla
Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary with Pastor Jack Scutter officiating.
Interment with full military honors in the Vienna City Cemetery.
Nancy Roberta Hays
Nancy Roberta Hays was born on September 24, 1922, in Brumley, Missouri to
Greenberry and Charlsie (Helton) Pope. She passed away at her home in rural
St. James, Missouri on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at the age of 85 years,
11 months, and 30 days of age.
She was united in marriage to Winferd Hays on August 11, 1945, in St. Charles,
Missouri.
She was co-owner and operator of St. James Auto Salvage and was secretary of
the business from 1976 to 1998. She loved gardening, cooking and decorating.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William and Robert
Pope and four sisters, Mabel, Mary, Lena and Dorothy.
She is survived by her husband of the home; two sons, Winferd Hays, Jr. and
wife Kathy of St. James, Missouri and Steve Hays and wife Tammy of Vichy,
Missouri; two daughters, Sharon Logan and husband Irv of St. Louis, Missouri
and Janet Gerleman and husband Dan of Cuba, Missouri; two brothers, Jim Pope
and wife Kay of Fulton, Missouri and Joe Pope and wife Irene of Mexico,
Missouri; five sisters, Ruby Monk and husband Virgil of Wendell, Idaho,
Lucille Cobb and late husband Warren of Springfield, Missouri, Jean Bolton
and late husband Dale of Kingdom City, Missouri, Dean Reed and late husband
John of Kingdom City, Missouri and Faye Humbird and late husband Ralph of
Indianapolis, Indiana; one sister-in-law, Laura Pope of San Antonio, Texas;
three grandchildren, Bryan, Dan, and Rachel; and five great grandchildren:
Whitney, Macey, Micah, Jesse and Joshua.
Visitation was Thursday, September 25, 2008, at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel
in St. James, Missouri.
Funeral services was 2 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2008, at the Jones
Funeral Home Chapel in St. James, Missouri with Reverend Jerry Baumann and
Pastor Phil Cox officiating.
Pallbearers were Mike Pope, Barry Maupin, Kenny Eastwood, Bryan Hays, Danny
Hays, and Mike Gerleman. Honorary pallbearers were Micah Hays, Jesse Hays
and Joshua Hays.
Burial was in the family plot in the St. James Cemetery in St. James,
Missouri.
All arrangements are under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in
St. James, Missouri.
James Leland Higgins
James Leland Higgins of Leasburg, Missouri was born on Thursday,
July 31, 1919 in Willard, Oklahoma to Guy Estel Higgins and Edith Mary Tyree
Higgins. He passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at the age of 89 years,
1 month, and 23 days.
He served his country honorably in the United States Army during WWII. Leland
married Helen Elsie Troutt on February 21, 1948 in Leasburg, Missouri and to
this union one son was born.
As a farmer, Leland and Helen did everything on the farm together. He also
enjoyed deer hunting and lake fishing especially crappie. He was an active
member of the NFO several years ago.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Vernon and Wayne
Higgins; brothers-in-law, Harry Hoover, Homer Allison, and Clive Trout.
He is survived by his wife of the home; son, James L. Higgins, Jr. and wife
Patricia of Leasburg, Missouri; brother, Darrel and wife Betty Higgins of
Cape Girardeau, Missouri; sister, Deloris Hoover of Sullivan, Missouri;
sisters-in-law, Ethel Allison and Marie Higgins, all of Cuba, Missouri,
Doris Troutt of Steelville, Missouri and Jean Higgins of Ellisville,
Missouri; two grandchildren, Matt and Erin Higgins; other relatives and
friends.
Visitation was Thursday, September 25, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. at Hutson Funeral
Home, Cuba, Missouri.
Funeral service was Friday, September 26, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Hutson Funeral
Home, Cuba, Missouri with Rev. Larry Allison officiating.
Burial at Crossroads Cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri with full military honors.

Herman “Junior” John Miller
Herman “Junior” John Miller of Rosebud, Missouri was born in Gerald, Missouri
on January 23, 1923, the son of Herman A. and Amanda (Biermann) Miller. He
passed away Sunday, September 28, 2008 at St. John’s Mercy Hospital in
Washington, Missouri at the age of 85 years.
On August 30, 1947 in Owensville he was united in marriage to Theda C. Doane.
He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rosebud, Missouri, the
Rosebud Lions Club, the Rosebud American Legion, an active trustee of the
Rosebud Park and a volunteer for the Owensville Thresher’s Assn.
He served his country with the United States Army from 1944 to 1946. Herman’s
greatest joy in life was his career in livestock hauling, farming,
socializing with family and his many friends and the countless ways of
lending a helping hand.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son, Larry Miller; and a
brother, William A. Miller.
He is survived by two daughters, Janet Wacker and husband Robert of Bay,
Missouri and Frances Miller of Rosebud, Missouri; one granddaughter,
Kimberly Miller of Carmel, Indiana; two sisters, Carol Schierbaum of Kansas
City, Kansas and Donna Tegeler of St. Louis, Missouri; and by a family
friend, Edna Weatherford of Gerald, Missouri and a special friend Kurtis
Wehmeyer of Rosebud, Missouri.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the
Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rosebud with Rev. Aaron Kotila officiating.
Burial in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Rosebud, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in
Owensville, Missouri.
Avonell “Abbie” Risinger
Avonell D. “Abbie” of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of William and
Lydia (Tayloe) Rutz on September 12, 1924 in Owensville, Missouri and passed
away Sunday, September 21, 2008 in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 84 years
and 9 days.
Abbie was united in marriage to Paul F. Risinger on October 12, 1945 in
St. Louis, Missouri and to this union two children were born.
After retiring Abbie and Paul moved to the Indian Hills Lake Community.
She was a parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church, a member of the Cuba
Cutie Red Hat Ladies, St. Louis Ambassadors Club and a great supporter of
the Variety Club of St. Louis. She enjoyed dancing, music, playing the
guitar, collecting angels and hats, but most of all she loved life and
spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Curtis Rutz;
one sister, Gladys Benham and an infant grandson, baby boy Risinger.
She is survived by her son, Gary and wife Randy Risinger of Colleyville,
Texas; daughter, Gail Boles of Chesterfield, Missouri; sister, Doris and
husband Jim Jerden of Jefferson City, Missouri; grandchildren, Abbie (Allen)
Risinger Hall of Hurst, Texas, Christine Gardner of Watuga, Texas, James
(Chandra) Gardner of Flower Mound, Texas, Brian (Liz) Boles of Ballwin,
Missouri, Kim (Tom) Tanurchis of Ballwin, Missouri; great grandchildren,
John Thomas Tanurchis, Connor Paul Boles, Hailey Barber, Brice, Sydney
and Landen Gardner; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Wednesday, September 24, 2008 from 5-9 p.m. at Britton
Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri with a tribute service at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass was Thursday, September 25, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross
Catholic Church with Father James Finder as the celebrant.
Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri.
Juanita “Delores” Stites
Juanita “Delores” Stites of Steelville, Missouri was born November 27, 1937
in Viburnum, Missouri to Paul and Alta (Ogle) Gibson and passed away on
Thursday, September 25, 2008 at her home at the age of 70 years.
On March 26, 1955 she was united in marriage to Lane Stites.
Delores enjoyed working with needlepoint, crafts, gardening and cooking.
Most of all, she loved being with her grandchildren and taking care of her
little dog, Buttons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Don McKinnon and
one sister-in-law, Bonnie Gibson.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years; two sons, Allen Stites and wife
Carmen of Cherryville, Missouri and Paul Stites and wife Elsie of Steelville,
Missouri; two daughters, Kathy Crocker and husband Steve of Black, Missouri
and Sue McKinnon of Steelville, Missouri; three brothers, Ed Gibson, Bill
Gibson and wife Rose and Gary Gibson and wife Janelle, all of Farmington,
Missouri; 13 grandchildren, Michael McKinnon and good friend Karen May,
LaDonna Thompson and husband Matt, Joshua McKinnon, Jason Stites, Jacob
Stites, April Stites and good friend Thomas Verble, Amy Sutton and husband
Will, Jared Stites, Jennifer Stites and good friend Travis Ware, Jessica
Stroup and husband Bud, Jeremy Crocker and wife Crystal, Kristen Crocker
and good friend Nick Parr, and Coty Stites.
Eight great grandchildren, Dalton and Carly Thompson, Jacob, Lucas and
Boden Sutton, Brice, Kayelee Cantrell and Kaylan Crocker; brothers-in-law,
Cecil Stites and wife Pearl, Bob Stites, Joe Stites and wife Joyce, Bill
Stites and good friend Dorothy Collins: sisters-in-law, Shirley Plank and
husband Mike and Isolene Stites; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Elder Garry Mathes
officiating. Special music of “In the Garden” and “Go Rest High” was played.
Casket bearers were Coty Stites, Jared Stites, Josh McKinnon, Mike McKinnon,
Will Sutton, Bud Stroupe, Jeremy Crocker and Matt Thompson.
Committal prayer and burial were in the First Baptist Church Cemetery at
Cherryville, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of
Steelville, Missouri.
