She married Warren Beck on July 4, 1963 in Steelville, Missouri. Earlene graduated from the Steelville Class of 1956. She worked in the Steelville Post Office for 19 years and was OIC (Officer In Charge) at the Leasburg Post Office for three months and at the Cherryville Post Office for three months. She then became postmaster for the Edgar Springs Post Office retiring on December 28, 1998. She received two certificates and a service award from the U.S. Postal Service commemorating her 30 years of service. She was a member of the Steelville First Baptist Church. Earlene showed her dedication to the community by serving on the Steelville Ambulance Board for 13 years and volunteering at the Golden Echoes Resale Shop. She loved to travel throughout the U.S. venturing to 41 of the 50 states. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Dorothy King; her brother, Wayne King; and sister, Wanda Hutson and husband Clifton. LeOra Mae Gray LeOra Mae Gray of Vichy, Missouri was born in Highgate, Missouri on July 6, 1936 to John E. Welch Sr. and Eva (Cowan) Welch and passed away Friday, September 19, 2014 at the age of 78 years. After graduating high school she married Doyle Gray on June 12, 1954, and to this union five children were born. She was a longtime member of the Broadway Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, and also served as church secretary for many years. LeOra was an Election Judge for over 30 years. She enjoyed getting out in the spring and planting a big garden looking forward to reaping the harvest of her labor and sharing the bounty with family and friends. LeOra spent most of the summer canning fruits, vegetables and making jams and jellies so her family would have fresh food all year long. She was also Doyle's right hand on the farm. She worked in the hay fields raking, baling and stacking hay. She also worked with the cattle and hogs. Carl learned carpentry from his father on the family farm. He served as the unit carpenter in the Army and earned a living as a construction carpenter in the St. Louis Carpenter's Union. He was on the Six Flags over Mid-America maintenance staff for several years. The ultimate handyman, Carl mastered carpentry, plumbing, electrical and concrete skills. He was a member of the Catholic, Knights of Columbus, the Pacific, Missouri volunteer ambulance team and a Pacific alderman. Carl's volunteering spirit was reflected in his carpentry and organizational talents in civic and church organizations he helped. A country boy at heart, Carl loved to tend garden, enjoyed sharing carpentry knowledge, and was quick to lend a neighborly hand. Carl shared a special bond with Carolyn Hughes of St. James, Missouri. He attended school in Loose Creek and was a 1950 graduate of Linn High School. Urban served in the United State Army during the Korean War as a forward observer. During his military career, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Urban was the owner/operator of the Osage County Observatory and later went to work for the U.D. Urban was married on March 25, 1958, in Linn to Marie (Pailer) Jaegers. Originally from Cuba, Missouri, Teddy was born with down syndrome in a time when the common practice was to institutionalize children like him. His mother, a schoolteacher, wanted much more for her son. She knew that with love and care he could live a full life. What no one expected was how much joy he would give back to us. Even in the most trying of times Teddy was always there making everyone laugh and smile. He never knew hatred, bigotry or any of life's evils. His pure heart and loving manner were contagious to all who crossed his path. Robert Edward Lee "Bobby" Swope Robert Edward Lee "Bobby" Swope of Cuba, Missouri was born December 24, 1961 at Kansas City, Missouri to Charles L. "Chuck" and Melba (nee Smith) Swope and passed away Monday, September 22, 2014 at the age of 52 years. Bobby grew up on the RSR Ranch near Tarkio, Missouri. He attended all 12 years of school at Tarkio, Missouri and graduated in 1979. He attended the State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Missouri for two years on a Rodeo Scholarship and then he transferred to and graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1984 with a B.S. Degree in Agriculture, majoring in Animal Science. He worked on a Texas ranch after graduation and then worked at the Supreme Feeders Cattle Feed Lot near Liberal, Kansas. After returning to Missouri, he worked several years as a Load out Foreman at the Joplin Regional Stock Yards in Joplin, Missouri. Recently he had worked for the EDP Corp at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Bobby was a lifetime cowboy and a musician. He won his first money at a rodeo when he was three years old. He was mainly a calf roper and a team roper, but he also rode bareback in the Junior and High School Rodeos. He was the All Around Champion of the Missouri High School Rodeo Association in 1979. He qualified for the National High School Rodeo Final all four years he was in high school. He also qualified two years for the National Feedlot Cowboy Association National Finals in Elko, Nevada. He played drums and sang with many Country and Western bands. He was an extremely good horseman and had won over 40 trophy buckles plus trophy saddles for calf roping and team roping. Vince retired in 1985 from the St. Charles Banner News at the general manager. In 1985 after retiring Vince and Annabelle moved to Indian Hills Lake. Vince was a dedicated member to the Cuba Knights of Columbus Monsignor C.J. Hornsey Council 8920 and served as Past Grand Knight and the Faithful Navigator. Vince was also a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church while living in Cuba, Missouri. Vince enjoyed hunting, camping, floating, boating, playing horseshoes and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. Vince always read the daily paper so that he could keep up with all the current news and sports. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lacy and Mary Wood; wife, Annabelle Wood; one son, James "Jim" Wood; sister, Vinita and husband William Max Voight. He is survived by his children, Jeffrey and wife Debbie Wood of Springdale, Arkansas, John Wood of Springfield, Missouri, Kathryn "Kathy" Wood of Crestwood, Missouri, Salome "Sally" Engle of Wildwood, Missouri, Suzanne "Suzy" and husband James Burnley of Chesterfield, Missouri and Joseph "Joe" Wood of Springdale, Arkansas; 12 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held Wednesday, September 24, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. at the Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri. Celebration of Mass was held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, 415 W School Street, Cuba, with Father John Patrick Day as celebrant. Pallbearers were Nathan Engle, Anthony Engle, Christopher Senteney, Clayton Burnley, Eugene Pfeiffer, Louis Hagene and Pat Wolfmeyer. Interment and prayers followed at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. Arrangements under the direction of the Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
