MO Local Obituaries for the Week of Oct. 2, 2002 Dorothy Pauline Turnbough Harp Dorothy Pauline Turnbough Harp (nee Barr) was born on January 18, 1916 to the union of Fred Barr and Eva Barr (Britton) and passed away on September 23, 2002 at Carroll County Medical Center at Berryville, Arkansas at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 5 days. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; one son Mona Lee Turnbough; two brothers, Jack and Glenwood Barr; granddaughter Angie Logan; grandson Terry Lee Parker; great-grandson James Randall Evans, Jr.; infant great-granddaughter Kelsey Dale Housewright. On August 14, 1935 Dorothy was united in marriage to John Leonard Turnbough; four sons and seven daughters were born to this union. John Leonard Turnbough passed away on February 2, 1989. Dorothy married Noel Elbert Harp and they had many happy years together. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Dorothy accepted Jesus as her personal savior many years ago. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her loving husband Noel Elbert Harp of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; her three sons and three daughters-in-law, Robert and Betty Turnbough; William and Mae Turnbough all of Springdale, Arkansas; Gary and Kathy Turnbough of Bentonville, Arkansas. Seven daughters and five sons-in-law, Arbell and Ben Chew of Cuba, Mo.; Wanda and James Heads of Greenforest, Arkansas; Barbara and Alfred Logan of Hindsville, Arkansas; Catherine and Wayne Mercer of Sullivan, Mo.; Sue and Paul Pliler of Springdale, Arkansas; Alvina Housewright of Bourbon, Mo.; Bonnie Mercer of Branson, Mo. Four sisters and one brother-in-law Hallie Turnbough of Rolla, Mo.; Betty Tinner of Cuba, Mo.; Anna Mae Hartwick of Washington, Mo.; Peggy and Chester Brey of Lawton, Michigan; 34 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Dorothy Pauline Turnbough Harp nee Barr was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. where funeral services were held on Thursday, September 26, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. with Jerry Beers officiating. Interment was in the Czar Cemetery, Crawford County, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. Rose Mary Lorts Rose Mary (Spilman) Lorts of St. James, Missouri passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2002 at Phelps County Regional Medical Center after a battle with ovarian cancer and other complications at the age of 74 years and 11 months. Rose Mary was born October 14, 1927, to James C. and Mary Elizabeth (Bryant) Spilman. She is preceded in death by her parents as well as her brother James Arthur Spilman on September 7, 1997. Jesse M. Lorts and Rose Mary Spilman were united in marriage on July 24, 1958, just recently celebrating 44 years of marriage. To this union three children were born. Rose Mary Lorts graduated from Rolla High School in 1945, she then went to work for the Rolla State Bank until her marriage to Jesse, in which they owned and operated St. James Auction Company then later Lorts Auction Service. Rose Mary worked side by side with her husband while she raised their three children. Rose Mary Lorts was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and a wonderful friend and neighbor. Her family was the light of her life, she would do anything to help someone and give of herself any way she could. She enjoyed her grandchildren tremendously. Rose Mary was baptized in the Methodist Church in Rolla, Missouri, when she was a teen. Rose Mary is survived by her husband, Jesse M. Lorts; daughter, Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Birkner and husband, Rick, of St. James; sons, Larry Wayne Lorts and wife, Sharon, of St. James and Gary Randall Lorts and fiancée, Chris Wojtasik, of St. James. Grandchildren, John Richard Birkner, Stephanie Elizabeth Birkner, Ashley Nicole Lorts, Whitney Ann Lorts, Justin Tyler Lorts and Dylan Ross Lorts, all of St. James. Other survivors include several cousins, friends and neighbors. Funeral service for Rose Mary Lorts was held Tuesday, September 17, 2002, at the St. James Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jerry Bauman officiating. Interment was in the St. James Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday, September 16, 2002, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. All arrangements are under the direction of James and Gahr Mortuary, St. James, Missouri. Isabelle Elizabeth Midyett Isabelle Elizabeth Midyett was born on October 6, 1918 at Belgrade, Mo., a daughter of the late Landon W. Key and Lillie (Vest) Key. She entered eternal life on September 21, 2002, at the Bethesda Southgate Nursing Home, St. Louis, Mo. She had reached the age of 83 years, 11 months and 15 days. At Ironton, Mo. on December 24, 1935, Isabelle was united in marriage to Leonard Midyett and to this union two daughters and one son were born. They enjoyed over 58 years together before his death May 31, 1994. Isabelle was a devoted member of Straightway Baptist Church, Steelville, Mo., where she served in many capacities, especially with the youth. The Children's Worship Center was dedicated in their honor in 1993. She was a past Worthy Matron of Martha Ray OES #221 in Overland, Mo., and a present member of Martha & Mary OES #364, Steelville. Isabelle and Leonard retired from Alco Value and moved to Steelville where they resided for 25 years. In addition to her parents, Isabelle was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard; son-in-law, Oliver Laux; brothers, Dick, Bill, Leon and Lee Edward Key; sisters Lela Key and Lola Marsaw; sisters-in-law, Thelma Brown, Mabel Key and Goldie Barton; and brother-in-law Omar Midyett. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are two daughters, Shelby and husband Montie Copeland of Harvester, Mo. and Peggy Laux of Waterloo, Illinois; one son, Gale Midyett and wife Marie of Columbia, Illinois; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren. Three brothers, Paul Key and wife Hazel of Harvester, Mo., Bob Key and wife Eve of St. Louis, Mo., Jack Key and wife Charlotte of Kimberlin City, Mo.; sisters-in-law, Gertie Barton of Viburnum, Mo., Virgie and husband Bill Strange of House Springs, Mo., Ruth Key of Eldon, Mo.; and brother-in-law and Clifford Barton of Fenton, Mo.; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Isabelle Elizabeth Midyett lay in state 5­9 p.m. with Eastern Star Services 7 p.m. conducted by Martha & Mary OES #364 officiating, September 23, 2002, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at the Straightway Baptist Church, Steelville, Mo., with Rev. Melvin Reed officiating. The church choir provided musical selections. Committal prayers and interment were in Straightway Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Gale Midyett, Lennie Copeland, Paul Copeland, Mark Salzwedel, Billie Missey Jr. and Jeff Perkins. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Bill Ray William Edward Ray was born in St. Louis, Mo. on Sunday, June 22, 1941 to Cecil Wilbur Ray and Eulah Mae Hamrick Ray. He passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at the age of 61 years, 3 months, and 2 days. Bill lived most of his life in the St. Louis area. He was united in marriage to Vera Louise Pennock at Cross Roads Baptist Church, in Leasburg, Mo. on March 12, 1961 and two children were born to this union. After serving his country honorably in the U.S. Navy he was employed in management positions. The most recent at Singer Manufacturing as inventory parts manager. He liked to read, play golf, and loved to spend time discussing God's word. He was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Eulah. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his dear wife Vera of St. Charles, Mo.; his children Shauna Elaine Ramshaw and husband Michael of St. Peters, Mo., Brent William Ray of Wildwood, Mo.; his mother-in-law Helen Mayberry of Sullivan, Mo.; his sisters Mary Ellen Stephens and husband Dean of Mills, Wyoming, Joyce Nugent and husband Frank of Union, Mo., Nancy Broughton and husband Dave of Lakewood, Colorado; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kenneth L. Pennock and wife Carolyn of Rosemond, California, Mark Pennock and wife Leigh of Michigan, Michael Pennock and wife Pat, Georgia Buff, Rhonda Armstrong and husband Leroy, and Brenda Dotson all of Bourbon, Mo.; his eight grandchildren, Ashley, Aaron, Andrew, Alison, and Alexander Ramshaw, Tasha, Brandon, and Brieley Ray; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends all who will sadly miss and fondly remember Bill Ray. Visitation was held from 5­9 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2002 at Hassebroek Chapel in Sullivan, Mo. Funeral services were 11 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2002 at Cross Roads Baptist Church in Leasburg, Mo. with Rev. Delmar B. Hutson officiating. Burial was at Cross Roads Baptist Cemetery with pallbearers: Brian and Frank Nugent, Michael and Aaron Ramshaw, and Kenneth and Michael Pennock.
