Aufner of St. James, Missouri was born March 13, 1919 in St. Louis, Missouri to Frank and Catherine (Dazinskas) Aufner and passed away September 29, 2010 in Houston, Missouri at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 16 days. Frank proudly served his country in the United States Army where he served four years as a Small Arms Weapon Mechanic during WWII. While in the Army Frank was awarded the American Service Medal, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Expert M1 Rifle and 45 Cal Pistol badges. Frank was united in marriage to Doris Blasé on September 8, 1957 and to this union two sons were born. Frank was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Rosati, where he was until his health declined a very active member. He enjoyed travel, dancing and doing volunteer work in and about the community. He spent 33 years working for the United States Post office and truly enjoyed being a Mail Carrier. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Catherine Aufner; wife, Doris; son, John Aufner; brothers, Carl and John Aufner He is survived by his son, Robert Aufner of St. James, Missouri; brother, Paul Aufner of Kansas City, Missouri; sisters, Alberta Brennecke and husband Jim of St. Louis, Missouri and Catherine (Sis) Friedman and husband Fran of Hillsboro, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held Sunday, October 3, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. in the St. James Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary. Funeral services were held Monday, October 4, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Rosati, Missouri with Father Charles Pardee officiating. Interment was in the St. Anthony Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary. Dorothy L. Farishon Dorothy L. Farishon, was born July 4, 1916 in Webster Groves, Missouri to Edward and Clara Schumer and passed away October 1, 2010 Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church. She enjoyed quilting, puzzles and reading. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John E. Farishon; six brothers and sisters, Rosalia, Loretta, Cletus, LeRoy, Elbert and Charles. She is survived by her daughter, Betty (Joe) Shea; grandchildren, Joe and Karen Shea; sister, Lucille Sego; other relatives and friends. Visitation was from 3-8 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2010 and Rosary prayer at 7 p.m. at the Hutchens Mortuary, Florrisant, Missouri. Kenneth Charles Grayson Kenneth Charles Grayson of Cuba, Missouri was born on Sunday, August 21, 1938 in Springfield, Missouri to Mack and Florence Petty Grayson and passed away at MO Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, Missouri on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at the age of 72 years, 1 month and 12 days. Kenneth had been a resident at Stubblefield Residential Care, Cuba, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Florence Grayson. He is survived by his brother Leonard Grayson of Sikeston, Missouri; other relatives and friends. No public services were held. Ted Johnson Ted Johnson of Rolla, Missouri was born on October 27, 1917 to John and Maria (Abbott) Johnson and passed away Thursday, September 23, 2010 at the age of 92 years. He married Opal Wilson who preceded him in death in 2008. He was preceded in death by her parents, John and Maria Johnson; wife, Opal; two sisters, Soultana Gminski and Maria Johnson and one brother, Jim Johnson. He is survived by one daughter, Dian Patterson and husband Mike of Livingston, Texas; sister, Betty Stevens and husband Dale of Foley, Arizona; sister-in-law, Mary Johnson of St. James, Missouri; grand- children, Keith Patterson and Laura Patterson; great grandchildren, Heather and Cooper; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held Friday, October 1, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla, Missouri. David Joe Miller David “Dean” Joe Miller of Cuba was born Tuesday, July 21, 1936 at Bourbon, Missouri to Claude and Stella (nee Ratliff) Miller and passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 74 years, 2 months and 8 days. Dean was united in marriage to Betty Ann Veach on July 20, 1957 at Cuba, Missouri. They spent 53 years of marriage together enjoying each and every day. Dean proudly served his country in the United States Army from September 3, 1959 to September 1, 1961. In his working career Dean worked at the Shoe Factory in Cuba, Pearidge Lead Mine and then he did car detailing until he retired in 1996. He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church for nearly 30 years. After retirement he enjoyed reading “Western” books, camping, traveling and watching the news. In the last few years every day around 3:30 pm it was time to go outside and feed the birds. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Stella Miler; brother, Jim Miller; sisters-in-law, Edna Mae Miller and Julia Miller; other relatives and friends. He is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Miller; brothers, George Miller and Stanley and wife Jane Miller, brothers-in-law, Robert and wife Katherine Veach and John and wife Dorothy Veach, all of Cuba, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Marge and husband Ray Plank of Cuba, Missouri and Kathy and husband Larry Skyles of St. James, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Graveside service with full military honors were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the Gerth Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri with Rev. Allen Teal officiating. George Smith George Smith of St. James, Missouri was born on October 14, 1931 at Red Bird, Missouri to George Elree and Lena (Cordes) Smith and passed away Sunday October 3, 2010 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 78 years. George was united in marriage to Joyce Sewell on August 7, 1954 at Liberty Church in Belle, Missouri and to this union two sons were born. George Smith went to school at Red Bird, Missouri until the eighth grade and then attended high school at St. James for 1 1/2 years; then attended 1 1/2 years at Bland High School and quit school six weeks before graduation. Then he got his GED after coming out of the Army. He served in the Army in the Korean War. Released from the service on January 29, 1954. He went to work at Boys Town as night watchman; then at St. James Missouri Veteran’s Home in maintenance. Then worked for Don Sargant installing windows; also worked for Dr. E. A. Stricker at the Wheelgate Farm doing carpenter work and caring for show cattle. Then worked for McFarland Nursing Home as maintenance. Then moved to Flag Springs and bought their first home. Then George went to St. Louis to Barber School. George barbered for 18 years in Rolla, Missouri and farmed and raised Angus Cattle. He then worked for Manchester Packaging Co. at St. James for two years till he injured his back and retired early. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lena Smith; three sisters, Berniece Zinn; Nora Johnson and Kataherine Zweig. He is survived by his wife, Joyce of St. James, Missouri; sons, Michael Smith of Russellville, Missouri and Steven Smith of St. James, Missouri; brother, Leroy Smith and wife Donna of St. James, Missouri; sisters, Ella Mae Cowan of St. James, Missouri and Mildred Brown of Rolla, Missouri; six grand- children; three great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Visitation was Monday October 4, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri. Graveside funeral was conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday October 5, 2010 at the St. James Cemetery with Martin Rinehart officiating. Pallbearers were Heath Smith, Ronnie Boggs, Leroy Tipton, Howard Huffman, Ken Fox and Rick Smith. Arrangements under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri. Susan Leona Smith Susan Leona Smith was born March 12, 1943 in Phelps County, Missouri to Loyd and Lillian (Gillispie) Cook, and passed away Friday, September 24, 2010 at St. Lukes Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 67 years. Susan lived in the Rolla and St. James area for many years. She worked at Dr. Nichols office in Waynesville, MO, Zeno’s in Rolla and PCRMC. Her hobbies included spending time with family, BBQ’s and fishing. She is survived by her children, Larry Cook of Rolla, Missouri, Kim Frye and husband Chip of Platte City, Missouri, Howard Smith of Vienna, Missouri and Melissa Otto of Kansas City, Missouri; sister, Brenda Briggs of Crane, Missouri; brothers, Kenny Cook and wife Judy of Crane, Missouri and Ronald Cook and wife Jo of Jefferson City, Missouri; 13 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
