MO Local Obituaries for the Week of October 7, 2020 William "Finis" Barr William "Finis" Barr of High Ridge, Missouri, formerly of Steelville, Missouri, was born June 18, 1935 in Davisville, Missouri to Finis "Ed" and Alice Turnbough Barr passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 12 days. In 1955 he married Wilma Bell. He later married Diane Greenwell in August of 1992. Finis believed Christians were to worship, praise and serve God. At 12 years old he played and sang with the Lester Family and Gospel String Band. At age 15 he joined The Happy Rhythm Boys. At 18 Finis attended the Stamps Quartet School of Music in Dallas, Texas. Here he became friends with gospel music legend Bill Gaither. Together they organized the Five State Quartet. After returning from the school his lifelong friend, Ralph Green, recommended him to Barney Barrow and the Victory Quartet. This association with the Victory Quartet would last over 20 years. Finis would organize and manage The Believer's of St. Louis in March 1975. Finis had attended the Freewill Baptist Bible College in Nashville, Tennessee. After leaving Nashville, he and his family eventually moved to Hazel Park, Michigan where Finis worked with the youth in Christian Education at the Hazel Park Freewill Baptist Church for four years. Finis retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1991. After retirement he moved to Steelville, Missouri and eventually sang with several groups. He was attending Calvary Fellowship Freewill Baptist in Fenton, Missouri the last few years. While in Steelville, he attended Steelville Assembly of God Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Alice Barr; sisters, infant Bonnie Louise Barr, Erma Lee (Jesse) Hogan, and Georgia Marie (Rev. Robert) Hill; and one brother, Ronald Edward Barr. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Diane Barr of High Ridge, Missouri; two daughters, Christi (Lonnie) Morrison of High Ridge, Missouri and Vicki (Steve) Amlong of Fairdealing, Missouri; four grandsons, Eli (Ashley) Peterson, Nathan (Jordan) Peterson, Matthew Morrison and Christopher (Jamie) Morrison; great grandchildren, Kendall, Sayler and Audrey Peterson, Jacob and Weston Morrison and Gatlin Peterson; one brother, Tom (Patty) Barr of Kelso, Missouri; three sisters, Janet (Lindell) Wood of Union, Missouri, Doris (Rev. John) Gibbs and Marilyn (Rev. Donald) Dungan, all of Tennessee; sister-in-law, Joan Barr of Georgia; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2020 with Pastor Jerry Beers officiating and Rev. Kenny Simpson reading the obituary and sharing memories. Special memories were shared by his grandson, Matthew Morrison and quartet memories were shared by Ron Scott. Music of "I'll Fly Away" and "What a Day that Will Be" was sung by the congregation. Special recorded music of "This is Just What Heaven Means to Me", "Beulah Land", "While the Ages Roll" and "What Will I Leave Behind" sung by Finis was played. Music of "Family of God" was sung by nieces and nephews, Chris Dungan, Dan and Sherry Camp and Deb Scott and Ron Scott accompanying on piano. Committal prayer and interment were in the Czar Cemetery in Viburnum, Missouri. Glenda Kay Crysler Glenda Kay (Barksdale) Crysler, formerly of Cuba, Missouri, passed away Wednesday September 30, 2020 at the age of 81 years. She was of the Christian belief. Glenda was a successful real estate agent and economic developer in the state of Missouri until her retirement. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Crysler of Caruthersville, Missouri; former husband, Jerry Walker of Cuba, Misssouri; mother, Inez Shockley; and father, Edgar Barksdale. She is survived by her daughter, Julie Walker Tomlinson of Cuba, Missouri; brothers, Jim Barksdale of Steelville Missouri, Wayne Barksdale and wife Carol of Florida; grandchildren, Jordan Tomlinson and wife Amy, Jakki Crawley and husband David; two great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Leda Ann Edgar Leda Ann Edgar (nee Weister) of Steelville, Missouri was born on Monday, February 25, 1952 in Rolla, Missouri to Royden C. and Leda B. (Bennett) Weister and passed away on Monday, September 28, 2020 at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 3 days. Leda attended school in Cherryville and Steelville, Missouri then moved to Slater, Missouri where she graduated high school in the Class of 1970. She later attended Sedalia State College. Leda married Arnold Lewis Edgar on June 10, 1972 in Ashland, Missouri. She worked in Human Resources with the Missouri Department of Corrections. She accepted the Lord early in life and attended Center Point Baptist Church in Steelville, Missouri. Leda enjoyed quilting, sewing and cross-stitching. She enjoyed watching television, especially soap operas, Dr. Phil and Dancing with the Stars. She loved to sing and play the piano. She enjoyed reading of all sorts, but especially read the Bible and have bible studies. She loved her dogs Rosie, Riley and Ginger. Sharon married Loyd Eugene "Gene" Mahurin on April 10, 1971 in St. James, Missouri. Sharon worked through the years for Briarwood Manor as a Med Tech, Meramec Industries as a team leader and Cuba Wal-Mart as a Pharmacy Tech. She was a member of Leasburg Assembly of God Church. Sharon was a unique and caring individual, who touched the lives of all who knew her. She enjoyed reading, Sudoku puzzles, sewing, crocheting, cooking, playing cards and Yahtzee. Robert Newell Reckerd Jr. Robert Newell Reckerd Jr. of Cuba, Missouri was born on Monday, August 29, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri to Robert Newell Sr. and Mary Lou (Pieper) Reckerd and passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the age of 65 years and 28 days. Robert graduated from McCluer High School in Ferguson, Missouri. He then went to trade school where he obtained his CNA degree. He married Teresa Lynn Husky. He later married Penney "Sue" Hayes Walker on September 22, 2012. He worked as a union drywaller for many years, then worked as a CNA in Cuba, Missouri and St. James, Missouri until his health began to fail. Robert was a 4th degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He liked to be gruff, but his family knew he was a big teddy bear and they weren't afraid of him. Robert was the world's best debater. He loved to eat, especially sweets. He liked to fix things around the house. He loved the outdoors, painting houses, hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Mary Lou Reckerd; father-in-law, Jimmy Hayes; and son-in-law, Mathew Smith. Lowell Carlyle Tonding Lowell Carlyle Tonding was born on December 2, 1930 in Austin, Minnesota to Lauritz and Jesse Tonding and passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at the age of 89 years, 9 months and 21 days. Lowell married Bette Lou Katzung on April 13, 1952 in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He entered the United States Air Force immediately following high school and after became a pipefitter with the Pipefitters Local 562 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was a Methodist Minister in Newburg, Missouri, and an Alderman in St. James, Missouri. In retirement Lowell enjoyed spending time with family on his farm, traveling with Bette, flying his Luscombe airplane and attending auctions. It is at these auctions that he obtained the many toys he enjoyed playing with like tractors, a King Midget car and so many more. He also enjoyed volunteering in the community, particularly at the Boys and Girls Club in St. James, Missouri and taking part in town parades as a Korean War veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bette Lou Tonding; parents, Lauritz and Jesse Tonding; one brother, Alan Tonding; grandson, Lance Tonding; and great grandson, Izayah Schonlau. Stewart was born July 16, 1926 in Gurdon, Arkansas to Elmer Allen and Martha (Tirpitz) Stewart and passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at the age of 94 years. His siblings included Gracie, George, Leo, Elmer, Jack, John and Frank as well as a brother who died at birth. Gerald joined the US Army Airforce at age 16 in 1942. In World War II he served in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Ghana and French Morocco. Early in life he felt a call to be a Missionary to Japan, but World War II and its aftermath changed his path. He graduated from Central Bible College and ministered for a while as an evangelist and for a short time worked with Evangelist A.A. Allen. He re-enlisted in the US Army Air Force (name changed to US Air Force) and served for a while as a Chaplain in the Air Force during the Korean War. He married Lily Dunets and the two of them moved to California, where he spent most of his life. He was bivocational, working for the Greyhound Bus Lines and also assisting in Ministry at Glen Cole's Church at Capital Christian Assembly of God in Sacramento, California. Rev. Stewart also pastored Assemblies of God churches in Pennsylvania and Arkansas. In 2004 he married Rev. Edythe Nelson (Crabb) Stewart of Edwardsville, Illinois. After marriage they moved to Arkansas and served as staff Pastors at Faith Assembly of God Conway, Arkansas. He also served as the Prayer Pastor for the Jim Bakker Show in Blue Eye, Missouri and also was active in various other churches. He was known as a man of prayer and his anointed gospel singing. He produced a CD of his singing fairly recently. He loved to preach and minister and even in his last year of life at the Missouri Veteran's Home in St. James, Missouri, he was always looking for a way to reach someone for Jesus. He would often sing to the residents and minister to them. When the coronavirus forced the lockdown of the Veterans Home, no ministers were allowed to come into the VA facility in St. James. He was asked to hold services for the residents. At age 94 he enjoyed ministering the Word of God. Just recently he was thrilled to lead another soul to Christ. He was preceded in death by wives, Dorthy Wike and Lily Dunets; and daughter, Faith Ann Stewart. He is survived by his wife, Rev. Edythe Stewart of the Southern Missouri District; grandson, Cory and wife Beth Stewart; great granddaughter, Gabrielle Stewart; step children, Bill and Barb Craft, Deborah and Steve Bullock, the Southern Missouri District Missionaries to Germany Rev. Richard and Deborah (Thrasher) Crabb; other relatives and friends. Due to COVID-19 concerns and restrictions, the funeral was a private small graveside service at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri. Curtis Dean Voss Curtis Dean Voss of St. James, Missouri was born October 9, 1946 in Harvey, Illinois to Henry and Grace (nee Hock) Voss and passed away on Friday, September 25, 2020 at the age of 73 years. He married Patricia Gossett on February 5, 1977 in South Holland, Illinois. As a Vietnam veteran, Curt loved to visit with other Marines and never met one that wasn't a brother. Besides being passionate about the military he loved to work on the farm with his cattle ("Lucky"). Curt was a successful businessman from owning a Trophy Store for 22 years and being a farmer for 20 years. He volunteered on the sewer board where he was recognized as the 2016 Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. He was a man who was strong headed, true to his convictions, and always had a USMC hat on his head and a diet coke in his hand waiting for the next revolution. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Grace Voss; and sister, Donna Merritt. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Voss; daughter, Melanie and husband Eric Earney of Union, Missouri; son, Eric and wife June of Orlando, Florida; brother, Steven Voss and wife Jill; brother-in-law, Larry Merritt; four grandchildren, Hailey, Cammie, Kylah and Cayden; other relatives and friends. Becky Sue Yocom Becky Sue Yocom of Davisville, Missouri was born June 12, 1953 in Rolla, Missouri to Billy Eugene and Willa Mae (nee McCann) Yocom and passed away Monday, September 28, 2020 at the age of 67 years, 3 months and 16 days. Becky was of the Christian faith. She graduated from the Viburnum High School. After 23 years as Postmaster in the Davisville and Bixby, Missouri area, she retired in 2012. As hobbies she always enjoyed riding horses and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy and Willa Yocom. She is survived by her daughter, Cara Jean Yocom-Russell of Davisville, Missouri; two brothers, Steve (Heidi) Yocom and Mike Yocom, all of Davisville, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
