MO Local Obituaries for the Week of October 10, 2018 Anna Lee Asher Anna Lee Asher (nee Jenkins) of Steelville, Missouri was born March 15, 1927 in Marceline, Missouri to Paul and Anna Bailey Jenkins and passed away Monday, October 1, 2018 at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 17 days. In June of 1957 at Cherryville, Missouri, Anna married Fritz Asher. She enjoyed many hours working with needlepoint, cross-stitch and embroidering in her spare time. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Anna Bailey; one daughter, Joy Ranae Asher; one brother, Bill Jenkins; brothers-in-law, Paul Bowen, Randy Asher, Billy Asher, Johnny Asher, Ronald Asher and Louis Dicus; and sister-in-law, Louise olis. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Fritz Asher of Steelville, Missouri; one daughter, Carol Ann Harrawood of Steelville, Missouri; two foster daughters, Sheila Marie Asher Abbott of Port Orchard, Washington and Patricia Ann Polston of Missouri; two sisters, Jean Jones and husband Carlos of Hermann, Missouri and Glydys Bowen of Swiss, Missouri; three grandchildren, Shannon Myers of High Ridge, Missouri, Wendel Harrawood of Steelville, Missouri and Melanie Messner of De Soto, Missouri; nine great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one great great great grandchild; brother-in-law, Robert Asher and wife Wanda of Cherryville, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Bonnie Jones, Judy Dicus, Karen Sikes and husband Rob and Lindel Asher, all of Steelville, Missouri, Cathy Tucker and husband Brian of Salem, Missouri, Wanda McMillen of Silsbee, Texas, Tina Asher of Springfield, Missouri and Linda Dodd and husband Bill of Cuba, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Anna's wishes were to have her body donated to the University of Missouri at Columbia, Missouri. A joint visitation with her daughter, Joy, was held at the Hutson Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 2, 2018. Larry Wayne Blue Larry Wayne Blue of Bourbon, Missouri was born on April 2, 1951 in rural Phelps County, Missouri, to Eugene Lloyd and Velma Katherine (Vitzthum) Blue and passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the age of 67 years. He grew up in the Maplewood, Missouri area and attended and graduated Maplewood High School, Class of 1970. As a young man, Larry moved to Colorado to work various jobs. Larry married Clarita McCorkle on November 23, 1973. Larry and his family moved to Bourbon in 1984. In 2008, Larry started his own business, Blue Boyz Trucking. Larry enjoyed tinkering on projects, riding motorcycles and car racing. He was also known to be a good cook. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clarita Blue; his parents, Eugene and Velma Blue; one brother, Perry Blue and his wife Judyee Blue. He is survived by two sons, Scott Blue and wife Misty of Rogersville, Missouri and Tony Blue and wife Angie of Bourbon, Missouri; five grandchildren, Dillon, Megan, Madison, Ali and Chase Blue; two brothers, Ken Blue and wife Nova of Bourbon, Missouri and Jim Blue of Huson, Montana; one sister, Joyce Bennett of Sullivan, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Newell "jim" Sloss Knight Jr. Newell "Jim" Sloss Knight Jr. was born in Evanston, Illinois on June 24, 1927 to Helen Willis and Newell S. Knight and passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at the age of 91 years, 3 months and 1 day. He attended New Trier High School before his family moved to St. Louis, Missouri where he completed his senior year at St. Louis Country Day School. He served in the Navy and attended Yale where he earned a B.A. in political science, history and economics. In 1950, his first job was selling Rice Chex for Ralston Purina. He then had a long career in sales and marketing, advancing to President of Warner-Jenkinson Mfg. Co., which was later acquired by the Seven-Up Company, where he retired as Vice President. He had a second career as a consultant for entrepreneurs and various small companies. As an Eagle Scout and child of the Depression, helping others was in his DNA. Throughout his entire life he volunteered and advocated for many not-for-profit organizations, including schools, charities and civic groups. Most recently, he focused on the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, Crossroads School, the Worlds Affairs Council and the Center of Creative Arts (COCA). Jim had a wide range of interests. He especially loved music and singing. He had a tune for every occasion. He was also an avid bird watcher, tennis player, science and nature lover. As a young man he ran a canoe camp on Ozark rivers, later buying some property in Crawford County on the Huzzah Creek where he made lasting friendships and the whole family enjoyed many weekend getaways. Jim thrived on teamwork and bringing people together for a good cause. His energy and enthusiasm were contagious. He was preceded in death by his sister, Wilhemine "Winikie"; and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Knight. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janet Meyer Knight and four children, Steven (Beverly), Sarah Jakle (David), William (Angela) and Daniel; three grandchildren, Sarah Knight, and John and Thomas Jakle; step-grandson, Robert Tucker; sister the Honorable Louise O. Knight of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania; other relatives and friends. Alvin Leroy Rouse Alvin Leroy Rouse of Cuba, Missouri was born Monday, August 18, 1930 at St. Louis, Missouri to of Claude and Theresa (nee Booth) Rouse and passed away Monday, October 1, 2018 at the age of 88 years. Alvin married Lorraine B. Knight on September 10, 1960 at Normandy, Missouri. Alvin started a working career as a drywall taper, after graduating from Normandy High School in 1947. During his career he worked for the St. Louis Painters Union Chapter #2 and for Rouse Durbin Construction. He was known for being the best wallpaper hanger in the county. He retired at the young age of 75. Alvin enjoyed watching sports, especially the St. Louis Blues Hockey, St. Louis Cardinals Baseball and Kansas City Chiefs Football. He spent hours in his work shop building cabinets, frames, candlestick holders and other furniture out of wood. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Theresa Rouse; two brothers, Arthur and wife Lorraine Rouse and Claude and wife Julie Rouse; and one sister, Elaine and husband Ray Schuettenberg. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lorraine B. Rouse of the home; two daughters, Peggy and husband Doug Windle of Cherryville, Missouri and Judy Rouse of Cuba, Missouri; two grandsons, Joshua and wife Rebecca Windle of Columbia, Missouri and Bradley and wife Sara Windle of Cuba, Missouri; three great grandchildren, Reede, Iris and Nicholas Windle; sister-in-law, Darlene and husband Bud Stratman of St. Ann, Missouri; two brothers-in-law, Sam and wife Debby Knight of House Springs, Missouri and Bob and wife Judy Knight of Mexico, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Harold Junior "Smitty" Smith Jr. Harold Junior "Smitty" Smith Jr. of Steelville, Missouri was born on Wednesday, November 29, 1933 in Hill Point, Wisconsin to Harold Sr. and Clara Mae Risley Smith and passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018 at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 26 days. Jaqueline "Tootie" Smith (nee Livesay) of Steelville, Missouri was born on Sunday, May 22, 1938 in Keysville, Missouri to Ralph and Florentine Reisner Livesay and passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 10 days. Tootie attended Steelville Schools and was involved in cheerleading and softball. She graduated in the Class of 1956. Smitty left home early to work on his Uncle's farm in Wisconsin before serving our country honorably in the United States Army. The two met at a bar in Rolla, Missouri while Smitty was stationed with the Army at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. In 1957 they married in Dubuque, Iowa. Smitty and Tootie moved to Wisconsin soon after getting married and stayed there for many years. Later, they moved to Steelville, Missouri where he built their home with the help of family and friends. While in the Army, Smitty drove big Army trucks and recently said his other job was "to drive the General where ever he wanted to go." Later he worked various jobs that included working at a factory in Wisconsin, a lock joint pipe company, working as a mechanic for Phillips 66, he owned and operated a Texaco gas station in Arnold, Missouri and managed the old Phillips 66 service station in Steelville. He had worked for Crawford County on the road crew and the City of Steelville as a mechanic. He started and ran D&H Outdoor Furnace Co. for many years. Tootie was a homemaker most of her life, but had kept the books while Smitty owned the Texaco station in Arnold. After they moved to Steelville, Missouri she worked at Brown Shoe for 20 years where her job was to make bows for shoes. She previously was an active member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Steelville, Missouri. She accepted the Lord early in life and had been a member of First Baptist Church of Steelville. She used to sing in the choir at church and would go to their New Year's Eve cotillions. When she was younger, she enjoyed bowling and dancing. Her hobbies were working puzzle books and playing cards. She was a great cook, liked to BBQ and was always cleaning. Tootie loved to watch hummingbirds and would chase squirrels off. Smitty was a previous member of the VFW in Steelville. He loved to make wood furnaces. He loved working on projects with his kids who have all picked up on his trades of some sort. They were preceded in death by Smitty's parents, Harold Sr. and Clara Mae Smith; Tootie's parents, Ralph and Florentine Livesay; Smitty's siblings, Betty Erickson, Ken Smith, Jerry Smith, Ervin Smith and Billy Smith; Tootie's brothers, Bobby Livesay and Jerry Livesay and her brothers-in-law, Clarence DeMars, Lyman Fosdick, LeRoy Hooker and Verne Long. They are survived by their children, Jim Smith, Gary Smith, Larry Smith and Cynthia (Randy) Lewis, all of Steelville, Missouri; three grandchildren, Thomas (Cara) Lewis of St. James, Missouri, Randi Jean Lewis of Steelville, Missouri and Brittany Smith; two great grandchildren, Olivia and Jesse Lewis of St. James, Missouri; Smitty's sisters, Avis (Tom) Roessler of Baraboo, Wisconsin, Marcella Long of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, Yvonne Fosdic (special friend Louie Behn) of Cambridge, Wisconsin and Judie (Rick) Ellett of Arbor Vitae, Wisconsin; their sisters-in-law, Virginia Smith of Hill Point, Wisconsin, Evelyn Livesay of Steelville, Missouri and Charlotte Livesay of Cuba, Missouri other relatives and friends. Burial with full military honors was at the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. The family chose cremation as the final disposition for Smitty.
