Marie Finder
A funeral Mass for Marie Finder, 82, of Washington, Missouri, was held on
October 11 in Washington, Missouri. Mrs. Finder is the mother of Father
James L. Finder, pastor of Holy Cross Church, Cuba; and the parishes of St.
Francis Caracciola, Bourbon and St. Michael, Steelville.
Mrs. Finder died on October 8, 2002 at Washington, Missouri.
Marie Finder was born on October 14, 1919, the daughter of Edward and
Caroline Schaltz Weiskopf, Sullivan, Missouri. She was united in marriage
to Henry Finder on February 17, 1943 at Sullivan, Missouri. Mrs. Finder was
a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband on April 17, 1991.
Survivors include her priest son, Father James Finder, Cuba, Missouri, a
daughter Shelia Marquart of Washington, Missouri, one granddaughter Tabi
Stemmley and one great granddaughter Emma Marie Stemmley, all of
Washington, Missouri.
Also surviving are three sisters, Lella Eckstein and Lucille Brune of
Beaufort, Glady Manion of St. Charles and three brothers Rosvil Weiskopf
and Wayne Weiskopf, Washington; and James Weiskopf of Lake St. Louis.
The Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes,
Washington wit Rev. Robert Heimos, pastor, and was assisted by Rev. James
Finder and deacon Rev. Mr. Earl Horsefield of the Cuba parish.
Rev. Dean Nimerichter of Greenfield, Iowa delivered the homily. There were
16 fellow priest concelebrants and Bishop John Gaydos, of the Diocese of
Jefferson City was present in the sanctuary. Following the Mass, Bishop
Gaydos conducted the rite of commendation. The parish Resurrection Choir
provided the music.
Burial was in the St. Francis Borgia Cemetery, Washington. Visitation and
funeral arrangements were in car of the Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home.
Addison Brandenburger Harding
Addison Brandenburger Harding of Cuba, Mo. was born on May 16, 1915 in St.
Louis, Mo. to the union of Gifford R. Harding and Rosalie Brandenburger
Harding and passed away on October 10, 2002 at the Missouri Baptist
Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 24 days.
On June 18, 1938 Addison was united in marriage to Helen Hall in St. Louis,
Mo. Two sons, Donald and David and three daughters, Salle, Linda and
Barbara were born to this union. They have been happily married for 64
years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law Diana
and Vernon Meyer, brother and sister-in-law Lillian and Waldo Harding,
brother Gifford Harding, Jr., brother and sister-in-law Leora and Hiram
Harding and grandson Jeffrey Addison Harding.
Addison worked as a heavy equipment operator and retired to this area. He
was a member of the Trinity Chapel.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving wife
Helen Harding; two sons, Donald Harding and wife Jean and David Harding and
wife Treasure; three daughters Salle Winkler, Linda Prince and husband WD
and Barbara Standeford and husband John; one sister Kathleen Galli and
husband Charles; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews;
other relatives and many friends.
Addison was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather,
great-grandfather, brother, good friend to all who knew him and will be
sadly missed.
Addison Brandenburger Harding was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of
Cuba, Mo. where funeral services were held on Sunday, October 13, 2002 at 2
p.m. with Gary Mace officiating. Interment was in the Oak Hill Cemetery,
Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral
Home of Cuba, Mo.
Delores G. Haney
Delores G. Haney was born on July 31, 1967 in Columbia, Mo. to Roy Aaron
Haney and Dormalee Green Haney. She passed away after a long illness at the
Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. on Sunday, October 6, 2002 at the
age of 35 years, 2 months, and 5 days.
Delores lived most other life in Crawford County and attended school in
Viburnum, Mo. She was employed as a nurses aid at nursing homes in the
area. She also enjoyed working puzzle books and watching, television.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, and her father.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her mother Dormalee Green Chew
and husband Robert Chew of Cuba, Mo.; her two daughters Seriae Shae Haney
and Crystal Kristen Haney; her brothers and sisters Randy Chew and wife
Susan of Cuba, Bob Chew and wife Teresa of Republic, Mo., Mike Chew of
Cuba, Linda Haney of Salem, Mo., Donna Williams and Darlene Chew both of
Cuba, Mo.; nieces, nephews, cousins, many relatives and friends who will
fondly remembered and sadly miss Delores G. Haney.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, October 9, 2002 from 9-11 a.m. at Hutson
Funeral Home in Cuba, Mo.
Funeral service was Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at 11 a.m. at Hutson Funeral
Home in Cuba, Mo. with Rev. Thomas Slovensky officiating.
Burial was at Davisville cemetery, Davisville, Mo. Pallbearers were Mike
and Randy Chew, DeWayne Watts, Walt Beal, Mike Callahan, Bruce Bryant, and
Richard Hooper.
All arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Mo.
Memorials may be given to the family for burial expense.
Barbara Geraldine Huff
Barbara Geraldine Huff new Farrar of Cuba, Missouri was born on April 17,
1919 in Crawford County, Missouri to the union of Donald M. Farrar and
Bertha E. (Walker) Farrar and passed away on October 5, 2002 at Cuba,
Missouri at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 18 days.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Janet F. Edgar,
one son George Schmitt, one grandson Rickie Woods, one great grandson
Curtis Callahan and one sister Alice Ryan.
Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her daughter
Joyce Lee and husband Walter; one son Donald "Butch" Miller and wife Sue;
one niece LaDonna Fountain; one nephew Patrick Ryan; 12 grandchildren,
great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, other relatives and
friends.
Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great
grandmother, sister, good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly
missed.
Barbara Geraldine Huff nee Farrar was in state at the Britton Funeral Home
of Cuba, Missouri where funeral services were held on Monday, October 7,
2002 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Norman Heironimus officiating.
Interment was in the Liberty Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of
Cuba, Mo.
Frances Berniece Martin
Frances Berniece Martin, 81, of Alton, Illinois died Monday morning,
October 7, 2002 at the Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton, Illinois.
The daughter of David Franklin and Viola (Conlin) Sharp, she was born
September 8, 1921 in Cuba, Missouri.
On September 8, 1946 at Cuba, Missouri, she married William Martin, who
survives.
Also surviving are her one son, Roy Manning, Jr. and his wife Dianne Burton
of Alton, Illinois; one granddaughter, Katherine Manning; two sisters,
Betty Schlife of Fullerton, California and Violet Lee Mulder of Cuba,
Missouri; and three brothers, Eugene C. Long of Oahu, Hawaii, Paul E. Sharp
and wife Viola of Perryville, Missouri and Leroy A. Sharp of Newbern, North
Carolina.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Sharp and one sister,
Geneva Hartman Crabtree.
Mrs. Martin was the co-owner of Econowash coin laundry and worked in ladies
ready-to-wear for many years. She was a leader of the motor corps for Red
Cross, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a member of ZONTAS; and a member of the
First Presbyterian Church in Alton, Illinois.
Harold Glen Sellers
Harold Glen Sellers was born Wednesday, May 10, 1922 in East End, Missouri
to the late Walter Frank Sellers and Phoeba Jane Worley Sellers, and
departed this life at the Gibbs Care Center in Steelville, Mo. at the age
of 80 years, 4 months and 24 days.
Harold married Audrey Ransom on November 20, 1943 in Steelville, Mo. and to
this union two sons were born.
Harold and Audrey lived in Caseyville, Illinois for 38 years where Harold
was the service and sales manager for McMackin Buick in Collinsville,
Illinois from which he retired in 1982. While there he received the
salesman of the year awards severals years in a row. Harold and his brother
Albert also owned and operated a service station in Caseyville, Illinois
for several years.
After retiring, Harold and Audrey moved to Steelville, Mo. in 1982 and
became very active in the community.
Harold was an alderman in Steelville, Mo. and later served three terms as
Mayor of Steelville, Mo. While serving as Mayor, Harold was honored to
dedicate the New City Park, and was involved in a large portion of its
developments. He hosted the ceremony recognizing Steelville as the
Population Center of the United States; he welcomed several new businesses
into the community and worked hard to make Steelville a better place to
live.
Harold worked part time selling cars for Schwieder Ford and Jacks' Auto
Sales in Steelville. He also took the local newspaper to Washington, Mo.
one day a week to be printed.
Harold accepted the Lord many years ago and was a member of the Center
Point Baptist Church and attended faithfully until his health failed.
Harold always had a pocket full of gum and candy for the kids.
Harold was a member of the Gothic Masonic Lodge #852 in Fairview Heights,
Illinois; the order of the Eastern Star Martha and Mary chapter in
Steelville, Mo.; the Centerpoint Baptist Church Brotherhood Men's group.
He enjoyed gardening, trading, camping, had a great sense of humor, loved
children and treasured the time he could spend with family, especially his
grandchildren.
His parents, three brother-in-laws Joe Cullen, Clyde Dickinson, and Leroy
Worley preceded Harold in death.
Those remaining to mourn his passing are his loving wife Audrey (Ransom)
Sellers, two sons Harold Sellers Jr., and wife Jeri Sue of Brighton,
Illinois; and Kenneth Dale Sellers and wife Diane of O'Fallon, Illinois.
Four grandchildren Susan Freand and husband Jeff, Michael Sellers and wife
Cathy, Christopher Sellers and fianceé Amanda all of Brighton, Illinois;
and Matthew Ryan Sellers of O'Fallon, Illinois; four great-grandchildrn
Nathaniel Sellers, Dylin Sellers, Kyle Sellers, and Ryan Sellers.
Two brothers Albert Sellers and wife Lillian of Sullivan, Mo.; and Leon
Sellers and wife Erma Lea of Imperial, Mo.; three sisters Melba Cullen of
St. Louis, Mo., Ruby Dickinson of Granite City, Illinois, and Imogene
Taylor and husband Carl of St. Peters, Mo.; one sister-in-law Rosalie
Worley of Steelville, Mo.; dear uncle, cousin and friend, all who will
sadly miss and fondly remember Harold Glen Sellers.
Visitation was held Sunday, October 6, 2002 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. with
Masonic Service at 7 p.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo.
The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on October 7, 2002 at the Hutson
Funeral Chapel in Steelville, Mo. with Rev. Delmar B. Hutson officiating.
Paul Hutson sang Amazing Grace, Mansion Over the Hilltop and How Great Thou
Art accompanied on the piano by Valerie Hutson.
Burial in the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Mo. All arrangements were
under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo.
Pallbearers were Michael Sellers, Matthew Sellers, Christopher Sellers,
Jeff Freand, Roger Sellers and Jeff Sellers.
Clarence "Buss" Summers
Clarence Summers was born Thursday, November 22, 1906, in the Liberty
Community, Crawford County, Missouri, a son of the late James Albert
Summers and Minnie Blanche Summers (nee Crabtree).
He entered eternal rest Sunday, October 6, 2002, in the Gibbs Care Center,
Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 95 years, 10 months and 14 days.
On May 20, 1930, at Rolla, Missouri, Clarence was united in marriage to
Katherine Mullen. One son and four daugthers were born to this union. They
have enjoyed over 72 years together.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Ray
Summers and wife Evana, William Summers, James Albert Summers and wife Iva
and Hugh Summers and one sister, Maude Summers.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife, Katherine
Summers of the home; one son John Summers and wife Joan of Cedar Hill,
Missouri; four daughters, Betty and husband Windell Bryan, Georgia and
husband Levi Mitchell, Beverly and husband Dick McInnis, all of Steelville,
Missouri and Clara Jo and husband Louie Picarella of Festus, Missouri. Also
remaining is one brother, Glen Summers of St. Louis, Missouri; one sister
Blanche Mullen of Lakeside, Arizona; 12 grandchildren, 14 great
grandchildre; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Clarence Summers lay in state from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2002 in the
Britton Chapel with Rev. Dale Starr officiating. Danny Gruver, vocalist and
Caroline Hawkins, pianist, provided musical selections.
Committal prayers and interment were in Pinnell Cemetery, rural Steelville,
Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Jerry Bryan, Terry Bryan, Mark R.
Mitchell, Timothy E. Harlow, Andrew Baumgarth, James McInnis, Gary Mullen
and Tim Mullen.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Mo.
Marie Lou Summers
Marie Lou Summers (nee Medley) was born Friday, July 23, 1920 near
Viburnum, Mo. to the late John Medley and Rebecca Richardson Medley and
departed this life Monday, September 30, 2002 at The Cuba Manor, in Cuba,
Mo. at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 7 days.
Marie accepted the Lord many years ago and faithfully attended the Center
Point Baptist Church until her health failed.
Marie was married to Bill Summers and lived most of their lives together in
the Bourbon, Mo. area and moved to Steelville, Mo. before Bill's death in
1982.
Marie enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers, canning, raising chickens,
crocheting, and quilting. Most of all she loved her family and treasured
their visits and time together.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill, one son Roger
Medley, one step-grandson Bradley Summers, one brother Jesse Medley, and
four sisters, Grace Medley, Laura Copling, Bessie Oliver, and Dora Midyett.
Marie is survived by four sons, Charles and wife Virginia Medley of Potosi,
Mo.; Floyd Medley of Potosi, Mo.; Cecil and wife Barbara Conaway of
Marquette, Illinois; Kerry and wife Deborah Summers of Steelville, Mo.; one
stepson, Kenneth and wife Margaret Summers of Bourbon, Mo.; nine
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, and two
step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Hallie and husband Carl Gregory of
Steelville, Mo.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Edwin and Helen Summers
of Kansas City, Mo., Lee and Irene Summers, Eugene and Mary Summers, Bob
and Joan Summers, all of Bourbon, Mo.; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many
friends all who will sadly miss and fondly remember Marie Lou Medley
Summers.
Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at the Hutson
Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 3, 2002 at the Hutson
Funeral Chapel in Steelville, Mo. with Rev. Alan Franklin officiating.
Allen Isgrig sang Amazing Grace and What a Friend We Have in Jesus,
accompanied by Helen Platter on the piano. Pallbearers were Kerry Summers,
Jr., Shawn Conaway, Matt Franklin, Steven Gregory, Brad Blumemstock, Juan
Marquez, II, and Honorary Pallbearer Danny Gregory.
Burial was in the Cross Roads Baptist Cemetery in Leasburg, Mo. All
arrangements under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville,
Mo.
Memorials are suggested to the Equip the Harvest Ministries, c/o Rev. Alan
Franklin.
