MO Local Obituaries for the Week of October 16, 2012 Mary Ann Baumann Mary Ann Baumann, nee Lathrop, of Steelville, Missouri was born January 19, 1931 in Miles City, Montana to Herbert C. and Susan Gaines (Flanagan) Lathrop and passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Delmar Gardens in Chesterfield, Missouri at the age of 81 years. After graduating from nursing school and becoming a registered nurse, she was united in marriage on June 17, 1952 in Miles City, Montana to Dr. Albert R. Baumann. In 1955, she and her husband moved to Steelville, Missouri where he began his new medical practice. Mary Ann was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Steelville for over 56 years. She was involved in all aspects of the church from being on the local church board and Arch Diocese of Jefferson City to helping at the Holy Cross School and to her many contributions of time to the convents. She was the Assistant Editor to the Steelville Star for several years, worked as the bookkeeper for her husband, Dr. Baumann, 4-H leader, Boy Scouts Leader besides teaching all of her children to play baseball, basketball and archery. Mary Ann hobbies were coin and stamp collecting, being an avid reader, a wine collector, painting, taking her family to the Fox in St. Louis and to the St. Louis Blues games. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Susan Lathrop; husband, Dr. Albert Baumann; brother, Herbert J. Lathrop; and sister, Gaines Susan Lathrop Brath. She is survived by her children, Raymond John Baumann and wife Christine of Ellisville, Missouri, Mary Ann “Honey” Swiney, Herbert Joseph Baumann, Albert Raymond Baumann Jr. and wife Laurie, Michael William Baumann and Vicky, all of Ballwin, Missouri, Theresa Marie Ives and husband Steve of Cuba, Missouri, David Anthony Baumann and wife Dotty of Manchester, Missouri, Patrick Joseph Baumann and wife Angela of Eureka, Missouri and Susan Marie Clonts and husband Michael of Stanton, Missouri; 33 grand- children; seven great grandchildren; special niece, Patti Brath Skinner of Denver, Colorado; special sister-in-law, Terri Lathrop of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 9 a.m. until time of service on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Steelville, Missouri. A funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Steelville, Missouri with Father James Finder as officiate. Prelude and postlude were played by Deloris Bell. Granddaughter Bridget Clonts also played while other granddaughters Stephanie Crawford and Mary Ann Smith were the vocalists. Serving at the altar were Joe and Jake Howdeshell. Committal prayer and interment were in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Cuba, Missouri. Casket bearers were the family, Raymond Baumann, Herbert Baumann, Albert Baumann, Michael Baumann, David Baumann, Patrick Baumann and Steve Ives. Linda Renee Bunk Linda Renee Bunk of Sullivan, Missouri was born in St. Louis, Missouri on December 10, 1955 to Jane Ida Stanley and Norman Shoults, Sr. and passed away at her home on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at the age of 56 years, 10 months and 1 day. She was raised and lived in St. Louis, Missouri until her freshman year in high school when the family moved to Sullivan, Missouri. Upon high school graduation, Linda obtained an Associates of Science degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She later was employed at Dr. Matt Tiefenbrunn’s office. On October 1, 1980, Linda was married to Donald L. Bunk in Sullivan, Missouri. Being small in stature she was huge in presence. Linda was a daring individual who loved motorcycling, riding dirt bikes and four-wheeling. She was a strong athlete and was a player on several of the city league softball teams and volleyball town teams. She had a strapping personality and was known by her family and friends as an “ox.” Once a week, generally on Saturday morning, she would meet with her “breakfast club” at the former Bobber Café in Sullivan to chat with her many friends and “solve the world’s problems.” She would also talk on the phone for hours on end and enjoyed a good story shared by friends. Linda was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan and helped with the children’s church program. She was preceded by her father, Norman Shoults, Sr. and her brother, Norman Shoults, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Don; one son, Chris Bunk and wife Jenny of Smithville, Missouri; two daughters, Jamie Mueller and husband Michael of Steelville, Missouri and Mallory Beyreis and husband Chad of Sullivan, Missouri; her mother, Jane Shoults of Sullivan; one grandson, Tyler Blankenship; a sister-in-law, Mary Shoults of St. Louis, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m., Saturday evening, October 13, 2012 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri and on Sunday at 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan, Missouri. Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m., Sunday, October 14, 2012 from Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan with Pastor G. Scott Perry officiating. Interment was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery. Ada Mae Chapman Ada Mae Chapman of Rolla formerly of Cuba was born November 13, 1910 at Bollinger County, Missouri to the union of John Henry and Hattie (nee: Richard) Newell and left from this life on Monday, October 8, 2012 at Rolla Manor at the age of 101 years 10 months 26 days. Ada was born when William Howard Taft was our 27th president and her life had spanned 18 presidents. When she was born, the telephone was rare, cars almost non-existent and electrical power available in only a few large cities. It was a horse and buggy time and they washed their clothes by board in the spring nearby and had lines to hang them on to dry. She has been witness to many of the great events that have shaped our nation, including the flu pandemic, two World Wars, the Great Depression and the Korean and Vietnam wars. In 1925 Ada married Chester Punnell and they lived in Valley Park and Ada helped take care of her younger siblings after her mom passed away in 1926. Before the age of 25, Ada had lost three siblings, three babies, her mother and her husband. In her late 30’s, Ada went to California with a friend. She lived in San Diego and loved to go dancing, but ultimately decided to move back to St. Louis because she missed her friends and family. She traveled back on a three day train ride. Her entire family was waiting at Union Station to greet her; they all wanted her to go home with them. It was in St. Louis that she met the love of her life Clayton Chapman. They were married in March of 1951. After retirement they moved to Cuba where they lived until Clayton passed away on October 24, 1995. They were happily married 44 years. While living in Cuba Ada was a member of the First Baptist Church. Ada is preceded in death by her parents; husbands; three brothers; five sisters; grandson, Greg Chapman and other relatives and friends. Those who are left to treasure her memory and to continue her legacy are her step children, Clayton C. Jr. “Sonny” and wife Carol Chapman of Baldwin City, Kansas and Betty Ann and husband Pete Baumann of Kennewick, Washington; seven grandchildren, Christy, Sharon, Chris, Mark, Cindy, Eric and Amy; three great grandchildren; a very special great nephew, John and wife Nancy Terrill of Rolla, Missouri; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, great-great-great nieces, great-great-great nephews, great-great-great-great nieces, great-great-great-great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Sally Lou Graber Sally Lou Graber of Rolla, Missouri was born June 15, 1929 to Ernest and Zoie (Parker) Fiebelman in Steelville, Missouri and passed away September 21, 2012 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center at the age of 83 years. She married George Herbert Grieg on December 29, 1951, in Arkansas while Herb was on leave from flight school. To this union, one son was born. Herb was killed in a mysterious plane crash in Alaska while serving his country as a Navy flyer. Sally later married Robert (Bob) Graber on May 11, 1963 in Rolla, Missouri and to this union two daughters were born. Sally loved life, people, humor, laughter, her family, her work at the Cerebral Palsy School and writing stories. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Zoie Fiebelman; three siblings, “Mick” Worley, Jake Fiebelman and “Pat” Hall. She is survived by her husband, “Bob” Graber; three children and their spouses, Doug and Karen Fiebelman, Ann and Randy Flanagin and Beth and Steve Borders; eight grandchildren; one great granddaughter; other relatives and friends. Garry M. Hix, Sr. Garry M. Hix, Sr. of Leasburg, Missouri was born to Jerry M. and Ruby (Wiseman) Hix on August 19, 1944 in Windsor, Missouri and passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 68 years. Garry was a 42-year member of Iron Workers Local #688 and was employed at Steelweld Equipment Company. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy. His life revolved around the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, he served in many different positions over 34 years with Bourbon Troop #429 and Sullivan Troop #444. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry M. Hix and Ruby (Wiseman) Hix and one sister, Judith Ann Hix. He is survived by his companion, Patricia Bunton of Leasburg, Missouri; three children, Garry M. Virginia Marie Shelton Virginia Marie Shelton of Cuba, Missouri was born on December 1, 1923 in Bismarck, Missouri and passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at her home in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 88 years. Virginia retired from Gibbs Care Center after several years of dedicated service. She enjoyed reading, bingo, gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Holt and Nancy (Campbell) Sellers; two children, Carol Jean Lofton and Ronald Gene Turnbough; three grandchildren, Eddie Brewster, Joseph Nicholson and Michael Lofton; two brothers, Andrew Lee Holt and Jesse Gale Holt. Thompson, Jr. of Cuba, Missouri passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012 at the age of 86 years. He is survived by his wife, Angeline Thompson (nee Maurantonio) of Cuba, Missouri; two daughters, Patricia A. and husband Jack Lee of Cuba, Missouri and Rose and husband James Osborn of Louisiana, Missouri; one son, John H. Thompson III of St. Louis, Missouri; other relatives and friends. John was cremated and a private service will be held at a later date at Ft. Blanche Rosetta West Blanche Rosetta West of Cuba, Missouri was born Tuesday, April 16, 1935 at home in Rogersville, Missouri to Avery and Vernia (nee Morgan) Barton and passed away Friday, October 12, 2012 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 77 years. Blanche was united in marriage to Marion G. West on December 27, 1954 at St. Louis, Missouri and they were happily married 45 years when Marion passed away Blanche spent her life taking care of her family and home. She babysat nearly her whole life, starting with being the oldest child of 13, she helped with all of her little brothers and sisters, then she raised her own family and grandchildren and for the last many years she has babysat for friends. She always considered all of the children she babysat as her grandchildren and they are considered her as grandma. Blanche walked and exercised every day. She could still jump rope and do 25 pushups. She read her bible and prayed every day that the Lord would watch over her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Avery and Vernia Barton; husband, Marion West on January 25, 2000; one grandson, Christian West and seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Cherry West of Cuba, Missouri, Cindy and husband Mike Medlock of Cuba, Missouri, Betty and husband Doug Brock of Kansas City, Missouri, Janey and husband Ernest Crider of Cuba, Missouri and Scott and wife Kayla West of Cuba, Missouri; 20 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and one more on the way; four brothers; one sister; other relatives and friends. West of Sullivan, Missouri was born on December 21, 1914 at Leasburg, Missouri to Pearl and Harriet Ann (Cresswell) West and passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at the age of 97 years, 9 months and 18 days. He lived the majority of his life in the Leasburg area and later moved to the Japan area near Sullivan, Missouri.  He was employed at Onondaga Cave for 10 years before working as a tool grinder at the former Ramsey Plant in Sullivan. George later retired from there. He had also worked at various other jobs, which included the former Curtis-Wright Aircraft Company during W.W.II, WPA projects and working in the timber trade. He was married to Thelma Kimes who preceded him in death in 1974. George was later married to Helen B. Rose. She too, preceded him in death in 2009. George was known for his fondness in woodworking and music and all kinds of musical instruments, mainly the banjo.  He was a faithful member of Crossroads Baptist Church of Leasburg for over 60 years and was a Deacon there for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Harriet West; wives, Thelma and Helen; half-brother, Royal King; four brothers, Floyd, Everett, Bert and Oral West; one sister, Zelona West Helker and one stepdaughter, Rosalie Elliott. He is survived by three children, Donald West and wife Vera of Sullivan, Missouri, Janet Isgrigg and husband John of Bland, Missouri and Larry West and wife Janet of Sullivan, Missouri; two step-daughters, Barbara Dillon of Bourbon, Missouri and Delores Martin of Crestwood, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri and on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church, Leasburg, Missouri.
