Bacon, Sr. of St. James, Missouri was born May 14, 1947 at St. Charles, Missouri to the union of Marvin and Leola Bacon and passed away Sunday, October 15, 2006 at Rolla, Missouri at the age of 59 years, 5 months and 1 day. George served his country faithfully. He served in the United States Army and the Army Reserves. He entered the Army September 2, 1968 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and departed the Army Reserve on September 2, 1974 at Fort Lewis, Washington. He received a Bronze Star Medal and many other medals, accommodations and ribbons. After leaving the Army George remained very patriotic and was always very proud of the Red, White and Blue, our American Flag. After the Army George worked as a Union Carpenter in the St. Louis area for a few years. The majority of his adult life he was a truck driver with 25 plus years of traveling the United States coast to coast. George was an active life member of the Cuba VFW Post #7147 and was in charge of the Gun Club for the VFW for many years. If you had the honor of knowing George for years or for just a short time you know that George always wore a hat or at least in the pictures of him. He was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to all. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Helen Mabel Bell Helen Mabel Ethel Bell, nee Murry, of Cherryville, Missouri was born in Cherryville, Missouri on Thursday, March 28, 1918 to Cletus Murry and Merttie Mauck Murry. She passed away at Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, Missouri on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at the age 88 years, 6 months and 12 days. Mabel married Ernest James Bell in June of 1933 in Cherryville, Missouri and to this union six children were born. She was a member of the Cherryville Church of God. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking and most of all spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest; daughter, Bonnie Mae Bowman; sisters, Laura (Clarence) Williams, Pearl (Lilbert) Bryant, Lettie (Raymond) Oxendine, Dolly Murry; brothers, Lewis (Mary) Murry, Everett (Lillie) Murry, Otis (Pearl) Murry; half sister, May Kincade; son-in-law, Tom Roberson; brothers-in-law, Clarence Parker and Thurston Halbert; and sister-in-law, Veda Murry. Crist Edgar Henry Crist of Cuba, Missouri was born November 14, 1917 at Council Bluffs, Iowa to the union of Edgar Bertram Crist and Martha Elizabeth Crist (nee Harness). He passed away Friday, October 13, 2006 at Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 29 days. Ed attended Iowa public schools and graduated from high school during the depression days of 1934. Following a short career on the family farm, graduation from business college and working as a bookkeeper for an automobile dealership Ed was employed by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis in January 1942, where he worked for a period of 35 years until he took early retirement in January, 1977. While at the Fed, he served for nearly 28 years in the bank examination department, holding every title in the commercial examination area from assistant Examiner to Vice President. At the time of his retirement, he was in charge of the bank examination division. During his time with the Fed, he attended night classes at the American Institute of Banking and St. Louis University. He is a graduate of the Inner-Agency Bank examination School, Washington, D.C. and the Central States School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. In May 1977, after some three months of retirement, Ed accepted an appointment by Governor Teasdale as Commissioner of Finance for the State of Missouri. In that position, he was responsible for the examination and supervision of over 625 state-chartered banks and trust companies and for the licensing and examination of some 540 small loan company offices located in the State. Ed resigned as commissioner in August, 1979 in order to resume retirement but he had continued to remain very much involved in banking and in financial consulting. He served on the Board of Directors for Peoples Bank in Cuba, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant. He was a member of the Cuba United Methodist Church, Cuba Lions Club, serving as Past Secretary, Cuba Lodge No. 312 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite, Moolah Temple and Indian Hills Men's Club. In his spare time he enjoyed playing golf, fishing, gardening, reading and was an avid sports fan, but most of all he loved his family. Ed was united in marriage to Imogene June Line on November 17, 1941 in Palmyra, Missouri and to this union two daughters were born Marsha and Vicki. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Martha Crist; six brothers, George, Melvin, Robert, William, Jay and Morris Crist; four sisters, Edna Fowler, Martha Johnson, May Ludolph and Alice Cieslak. Ed was a loving son, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, great uncle, great great uncle, brother, brother-in-law, cousin and friend to many. Hitchcock of Cuba, Missouri was born Friday, October 30, 1936 at Denver, Colorado to the union of Jack Cummings and Willa Goodwin and passed away Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 69 years 11 months and 15 days. She was united in marriage to Thomas J. Hitchcock on July 25, 1954 at San Diego, California and to this union two sons were born, Jay and Jerry. Gail was a member of Bible Baptist Church for many years. She was a fantastic cook, specializing in Chinese food, she had a great love for horses, country music and playing her bass guitar but her #1 priority was her family. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Gail is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Willa Cummings. Those who survive to mourn her passing is her loving husband, Thomas J. William Leroy Pinnell William Leroy Pinnell of Steelville, Missouri was born on Friday, July 31, 1925 in Scotia, Missouri to William Floyd Pinnell and Laura Evanna (Walker) Pinnell. He passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield, Missouri at the age of 81 years, 2 months and 10 days. Leroy married Mary Catherine Jones on January 22, 1949 at Uncle Sam Roper's house in Steelville, Missouri and to this union five children were born. He served in the United States Army during WWII and received two Purple Hearts before being honorably discharged. He was Crawford County Clerk for 24 years and was a member of the County Clerks Association. He later worked in sales for Elkins-Sweyrs Printing Co. traveling around the state. He was active in the VFW Post 6479, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the Steelville Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon and an elder. His hobbies were fishing and trading cars. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with children, grandchildren and family. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Leslie J. Pinnell; parents; sister, Eva Pinnell; infant sister, Hester Pinnell; brother-in-law, Lindell Hinch and sister-in-law, Catherine Pinnell. Anna Mae Wood Anna Mae Wood, nee Osborn, daughter of the late Ted and Agnes Osborn, was born October 31, 1932 and passed away September 7, 2006 at the age of 73 years.
