MO Local Obituaries for the Week of October 19, 2016 Walter Don Banning Walter Don Banning was born September 17, 1927 to Roy Wilson and Mary Catherine (Simmons) Banning, and passed away October 12, 2016. He was a Seabee in the United States Navy during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Chilton, serving in the Pacific. After the war, he moved to Tempe, Arizona. He met his wife, Norma Hawkins, when he moved back to Missouri. They moved around the country following the road construction companies that he worked for. He also drove over-the-road with his friend, Bob Bock. On August 30, 1968, he was ordained at Lakewood Missionary Baptist Church in Shirley, Missouri and pastored several churches during his 30 plus years in the ministry. He was well known for his enjoyment of buying, selling, and trading. He also enjoyed camping and fishing. After his retirement from AMAX Mines, he and Norma spent several winters in California, Arizona and later Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mary Banning; his wife, Norma; brother, Robert Banning; sister, Mary Strange and husband Charles; son, Donald Worley; great granddaughter, Shaina Kay; and brothers-in-law, Obie, Stanley and Ward Hawkins, Eugene Stramberg, Donald Blair and Jack Henry. On August 2, 1974 Robert married Ruth Haacke. Robert and Ruth strolled though this life hand in hand for just over 42 years. Robert was the ultimate father and grandfather. He loved nothing better than getting out in the yard and playing ball or making swings to play on. He loved his home and being outside mowing the yard or working in his beautiful garden that he tended so lovingly so that family and friends could enjoy fresh vegetables when harvest time came along. Robert was a car enthusiast, he enjoyed classic cars, building and racing drag cars, his favorite was a 1968 Pontiac GTO that he still has today. During the seventh grade Noel's dad passed away and he had to leave school to help take care of the family and to work on the farm. Noel was an excellent chef and worked at many nursing homes, restaurants and even owned his own deli shop in Sullivan, Missouri years ago. He would spend hours watching the cooking shows and then recreating the recipe at home. His lasagna was truly the best. Noel enjoyed family trips to Branson, he raised diamond doves and even has a pair of gold doves named Elvis and Pricilla. He made ceramics for years and everyone in the family got a ceramic Christmas tree. Noel married Cindy Sutton on February 19, 1994 at the Bible Baptist Church in Cuba, Missouri. She attended school in Cuba, Missouri and in her very young years she went to the Catholic Church with one grandma on Saturday evenings and the Methodist Church with her other grandma on Sunday mornings. Lil's nickname growing up and on into adulthood was "Ding". During her working career she worked at Convey Shoe, Voss Truck Port, San Val and the Cuba Thrift Store. Lil married Hoyt E. McCann Jr. on August 10, 1974 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Cuba, Missouri. Lil bowled on a league for years, spent hours crocheting, crafting and quilting. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. She enjoyed going to auctions, thrift stores, flea markets and to the boat. She played cards at the Cuba Senior Center and you didn't call if "Blue Bloods" or the "Voice" was on TV. She loved road trips, family reunions, raising plants, gardening and mowing grass. On June 28, 1947 in Flat River, Missouri, Gladys married Harold E. Oder and to this union three daughters were born. Gladys grew up in the Farmington area on a farm. She was a member of the Park Hills Presbyterian Church for many years and served as President of the Presbyterian Women, as an elder and clerk of the session. She and her husband, Harold, enjoyed traveling throughout the years whether it was to see their children who lived in other states or places of interest. Leona "Koradine" Rhinehart Leona "Koradine" Rhinehart of Salem, Missouri was born in Crawford County, Missouri on October 1, 1929 to Clarence and Gladys (Briggs) Roberts and passed away October 8, 2016. Koradine attended High School in Steelville, Missouri and she received her teaching certificate and began her teaching career at a one room school house in Davisville, Missouri. She then moved on to the Clinton Bank School in Phelps County. On December 22, 1951 Koradine married Glen Edward Rhinehart and to this union two sons were born. Koradine enjoyed setting out a big garden in the spring and always looked forward to sharing her bounty with friends and neighbors. What she didn't share she canned, feeding her family "fresh" from the garden into the long winter months. She was an exceptionally gifted seamstress and enjoyed making coats and clothes for her sons. She enjoyed attending church and loved gospel music. Her faith carried her through many trying times and led her to teach the adult class at Sunday School held at the Highland Community Church for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Gladys Roberts; her husband of 51 years, Glen Rhinehart in 2001. Stephen Paul Richter Jr. Stephen Paul Richter Jr. of St. James, Missouri was born on September 27, 1928 in Minot North Dakota to Stephen and Regina (Volk) Richter and passed away on October 3, 2016 at the age of 88 years. On May 15, 1948, he married Irene Mitschele in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Stephen joined the United States Navy when he was 17 years old and was a career Chef. Stephen and Irene eventually settled in Crocker, Missouri where they raised 12 children. Stephen loved cooking, gardening and cutting wood in the snow. He was always quick to share his harvest with others and made sure no visitor ever left hungry or empty handed. While in the nursing home he was known as the candy man, supplying much of the staff with candy daily. It warmed his heart to share what he could with others. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Regina Richter; wife, Irene Richter; a son, Johnny Richter; son-in-law, Edwin Duncan; one infant grandson, Kalob Steen; one step grandson, Buddy Herron; and seven siblings, Frank Richter, John Richter, Nick Richter, Joe Richter, Eva Hubbard and Margaret Richter Binnick. Sohn of French Village, Missouri was born on September 13, 1933 in Washington, Missouri to Oscar and Francis Doyle Sohn and passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the age of 83 years and 22 days. He was united in marriage to Sarah Ellen Chilton and she passed away on June 16, 2003. He then married Janet Webb. Donald worked for McDonald Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis, Missouri for 40 years. He started out as a sheet metal worker and retired as an inspector. Donald was active in the Army National Guard and finished his service as a Sergeant First Class. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Ellen Chilton Sohn on June 16, 2003; parents, Oscar and Francis Doyle Sohn; two brothers, one infant and Ray Sohn; two sisters, Mary Lous Sohn and Betty Sohn; and step-son, Kenneth Johnson. He is survived by his wife of the home, Janet Webb Sohn; two sons, Steven Doyle Sohn of Los Angles, California and Tom Hines and wife Carrie of St. Louis, Missouri; three daughters, Susan Cahill and husband Michael and Lisa Hines, Melissa Hines and fiancˇ Mark, all of St. Louis, Missouri; two brothers, Leroy Sohn and wife Glenda of St. Clair, Missouri and Gary Sohn of St. Clair, Missouri; brothers-in-law, Marvin and John Chilton of St. James, Missouri; grandchildren, Brittany, Lea Sohn and fiancˇ Reggie, Katelyn Nicole Sohn of Wood River, Illinois and Kenneth Jesse Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri; great grandchild, Sofie Ellen Siddell of St. Louis, Missouri; several nephews and nieces, including Jean Watkins and husband Bob of St. James, Missouri and Sharon Tennyson and husband Jerry of Rolla, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held on Sunday, October 9, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri. Funeral services were held on Monday, October 10, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri with Linda Hardwick officiating. Pallbearers were Steven Sohn, Earl Sohn, Tom Hines, Darel Provinse, Bob Watkins, and Mike Cahill. Burial was in the Adams Cemetery in St. James, Missouri. Frances Louise Smith Frances Louise Smith (nee Uhter) was born in St. Louis, Missouri on Thursday, June 15, 1933 to Harry Fritz and Blanche Lucy (Pohlman) Uhter and passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the age of 83 years, 3 months and 24 days. Frances married Bob Smith on December 3, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri and to this union four children were born. She worked for five years as a typist and supervisor at Blue Cross, Blue Shield in St. Louis, Missouri. She babysat for many years in the Steelville, Missouri area. She was actively involved in helping the local Red Cross for many years. She was a founding member of a very special group of women called "The Golden Girls." She enjoyed gardening, and in particular, flowers. She loved to read, play cards and spend time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Blanche Uhter; husband, Bob Smith; sister, Betty (Francis) Ellebracht; brother-in-law, Norman (Pat) Smith; and son-in-law, Randy Richter. She is survived by her children, Lisa (Dan) Kreamalmyer of Steelville, Missouri, Thayer (Martina) Smith of Austin, Texas, Stephanie (Anthony) Billingsley and Justin (Sarah) Smith, all of Steelville, Missouri; grandchildren, Cody (Christina) Smith, Jackie Trevino, Martina (Jesse) Maldonado and Dominque Trevino, all of Austin, Texas, Logan Billingsley, Lauren Billingsley, Shane (Brittney) Kreamalmyer and Matt (Jessica) Kreamalmyer, all of Steelville, Missouri and Lance (Danielle) Kreamalmyer of Crossett, Arkansas; 17 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the St. Michael's Catholic Church, Steelville, Missouri with Father Richard Boever officiating. White of Cuba, Missouri was born December 21, 1952 at Cuba, Missouri to David and Violet J. (nee Chapman) Thomas and passed away Friday, October 7, 2016 at the age of 63 years. Chris married Robert White on December 30, 1978 in Steelville, Missouri. Chris worked at many businesses throughout her career. She worked for Rudy's Package, Coverdell Glass, Sample Trucking, Owensville Mutual as an underwriter and from 2003 till current she has worked for Flying A Motorsports as the office manager. Chris spent many days on the river, going boating and camping. She played softball and bowled for years and when her children were young she coached their teams. From the age of eight Chris has watched the "Days of our Lives" nearly every day. She also watched the "Voice" and "NCIS". Every year they traveled to Sedalia for the Missouri State Fair. She loved to watch the shows and always tried to pick the winners of each class. One of her favorite past times was going to Iowa for steer shopping. She was preceded in death by her father, David Thomas; mother, Violet Thomas-Farris; and brothers-in-law, Luke House, Vernon White and Timmy White. She is survived by her husband of nearly 38 years, Robert White of the home; son, Jerrid and wife Heather Thomas of Cuba, Missouri, daughter, Lindsay and husband Sam Ruble of Bowling Green, Missouri; four grandchildren, Austin Thomas, Cason Thomas, Steele Ruble and Sloane Ruble; sister, Kathy House of Cuba, Missouri; brother, James and wife Barb Thomas of Robertsville, Missouri; half-sister, Karen Henry of St. Charles, Missouri; half-brothers, Jeff and wife Marie Thomas of Villa Ridge, Missouri, Richard Thomas of Ballwin, Missouri and Craig Thomas of Orlando, Florida; step mother, Pat Thomas of Ballwin, Missouri; brothers-in-law, Fred and wife Barb White of Cuba, Missouri, Paul and wife Lisa White of St. Louis, Missouri, Bill White of Steelville, Missouri and Jr and wife Josie Burris of Cherryville, Missouri; sister-in-law, Donna Metcalf of Steelville, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
