MO Local Obituaries for the Week of October 21, 2015 Lois Baraba Lois Baraba was born to Levi and Dorothy (Neff) Chandler in Crawford County, Missouri on March 23, 1939 and passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015. Lois started elementary school in Berryman, Missouri and graduated from Rock Spring Elementary School. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in St. Louis, Missouri in 1956 and attended Washington University night school for several years. At the age of 16 Lois started working at the Woolworth store at Grand and Lindell Blvd. in St. Louis, Missouri until she graduated from high school and several years at an insurance company. She spent 20 years with Diamond Shamrock, a chemical company in Clayton, Missouri. She married Matt Baraba, who immigrated from Dalmatia, Yugoslavia in 1966. They did not have children of their own, but only a step-daughter Snjezana Borovic, who came to live with them from Yugoslavia at the age of nine. Lois and Matt started their own company "Baraba Sewer Service" in 1968 while she was working at Diamond Shamrock. After Diamond Shamrock relocated to Texas she focused her time on their business, Baraba Sewer Service. She became the first women to get her Drainlayers license and second in the entire state of Missouri. She and her husband were in business for 44 years until Matt passed away in 2012. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Matt Baraba; parents, Levi and Dorothy Chandler; brother, Marvin Chandler; brother-in-laws, Rocky Valle and Tom Short; and Anto G. Borovic (first husband of Snjezana). She is survived by her step-daughter, Snjezana "Susan" (Daniel Zervas) Borovic; grandchildren, Tomislav, Marko, Kristina, Mandee (Greg), Mindee (Miles), Zachory and Melodee; great grandchildren, Maci and Henry; brothers, Noel (Pat) Chandler of St. James, Missouri and Joseph Chandler of Royce City, Texas; husband, Raymond Bourbon; sisters, Geraldine Valle, Zeldia Godbey and Della Short; other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held at Kutis South County Chapel on Friday, October 23, 2015 from 4-8 p.m. and at Britton-Bennett Funeral Home on Saturday, October 24, 2015 from 10 a.m. to service time at noon. Interment at the Shoal Creek Cemetery. Joy Linn Burr Joy Linn Burr of Cuba, Missouri was born December 31, 1956 at Rolla, Missouri to Robert Henry and Lillian (nee Walker) Warnhoff, Sr. and passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the age of 58 years. While growing up, Joy attended the St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was the Cuba High School basketball homecoming queen in 1973 and graduated from Cuba High School in 1974. Joy worked at the Sears catalogue store, which was owned by her parents, for several years and cooked at the Briarwood Nursing Home for a while. Joy was and excellent seamstress, having learned from her mom, she would make her own clothes and even made clothes for Barbie's. Joy played the piano in her younger years, she spent hours listening to all types of music and the past year she enjoyed alternative music. For years if you walked into Joy's home it would look like a jungle, for she had a green thumb and the houseplants were everywhere. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Henry Warnhoff Sr.; mother, Lillian Warnhoff-Crow; one son, Torrance "Torey" Burr; and one brother, Robert Henry "Bobby" Warnhoff Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Natia Natwick and friend Matthew McClure of Buena Vista, Colorado; one son, Robert Henry "Robby" Warnhoff III of Cuba, Missouri; like a daughter, Cindy and husband Tracy Wilson of Cuba, Missouri; five grandchildren, Abeni Williams, Maya Natwick, Lif Natwick, Zinnia Natwick and Lilly Warnhoff; one sister, Jan and husband Shon Morris of Cuba, Missouri; special puppy, "Teacup;" other relatives and friends. A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2015 at the Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri with Pastor Norman Heironimus officiating. Special recorded music was "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" by Patsy Cline, "I Can Only Imagine" by Mercy Me and "The Old Rugged Cross" by Alan Jackson. Yvonne Courtney Yvonne Courtney of St. James, Missouri was born January 25, 1929 in St. James, Missouri to Wayne and Lena Laws Roberts and passed away Monday, October 5, 2015 at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 10 days. Yvonne attended school in St. James and graduated from St. James High School as the valedictorian in 1947. Yvonne attended Springfield Business College for a few years before returning to St. James to work with the Roll-A-Whirl carnival ride factory. It is at that time when she met her future husband, Bruce T. Courtney. They were married on September 17, 1950 at the St. James Christian Church, with Rev. Fred Barber officiating. Shortly after they were married, Bruce was drafted in the US Army and was stationed in Louisiana and Texas. During his absence, Yvonne worked for the International Shoe Company in St. James, Missouri before joining Bruce at Wolters Air Force Base, Mineral Wells, Texas in 1951. They returned to St. James in late 1952. Yvonne went on to work for the City of St. James as the City Clerk, then for the IRS as a Customer Representative until she retired in 1994. Yvonne accepted Christ into her life at an early age and was a long time member of the St. James Christian Church. Since her retirement, Bruce and Yvonne have traveled to various places in the United States and Europe. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Lena Laws Roberts. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bruce T. Courtney of St. James, Missouri; daughter, Cheri Courtney Linebarger and husband Dale of Arlington, Texas; one granddaughter, April Linebarger Smith and husband James; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 3-8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri. Funeral services were held on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri with Rick Mosher officiating. Pallbearers were Dennis Wilson, Bill Kirgan, Bob Wilson, Randy Verkamp, Ronnie Moreland and Mike Gann. Burial was in the St. James Cemetery in St. James, Missouri. Lucreita "Lou" Foster Lucreita "Lou" Foster of Cuba, Missouri was born September 23, 1925 at Truman, Arkansas to Charles and Nettie Belle (nee Etter) Holland and passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at the age of 90 years. Lou married Raymond C. Foster on October 21, 1944 at Berkeley City, Missouri and to this union one son was born. Lou worked at many small restaurants, a drug store in St. Louis, Missouri and the Cuba Shoe Factory before her and Raymond purchased a building from Jack and Lorene Todd. The opened Meramec Sundries in Cuba in April of 1970. Lou worked 12 hours a day, six days a week to nearly seven years. After Lou sold Meramec Sundries, in December of 1977, she went to work at Casey's and Wallace Bakery. For a while, she would work nights at the bakery from 10 or 11 in the evening to 4 or 4:30 in the morning. Then, she would go over to Casey's at 5 a.m. to make donuts there. Eventually, she became a greeter at Cuba Walmart, where she worked for seven years before she retired on July 7, 2005. Lou was a devout member of the First Baptist Church of Cuba. In her spare time Lou enjoyed baking, reading, making Concord grape, green tomato, banana cream and coconut custard pies. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Nettie Holland; husband of 69 years, Raymond in April of 2014; son, Charles R. Foster; three sisters, Mae Griffin, Wanda Ferguson and Alma Allred; three brothers-in-law, Carl Foster, Cletus Foster and Monty Foster; four sisters-in-law, Virginia Grubb, Ann Sissom, Marie Payne and Ramona Stone. She is survived by her grandson, CJ Foster of the state of Virginia; two additional grandchildren; brother-in-law, Leon and wife Betty Foster of Ferguson, Missouri; special niece and caretaker, Donna Wools of Cuba, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held Monday, October 19, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri. Miah Love Gumpenberger Miah Love Gumpenberger passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2015. Although Miah Love was only on the Earth for a short time, she made an impact on her parents, grandparents and aunts. She is survived by her parents, Jared Gumpenberger and Tessa Cowhick of Sullivan, Missouri; grandparents, Mark Gumpenberger and Kaye Gumpenberger, both of Sullivan, Missouri, Tonya Ware and husband Russell of Bourbon, Missouri; great grandparents, Leo and JoAnne Weiskopf of Sullivan, Missouri and Walter Krone and the late Lorene Krone; aunts, Leah Starks of Bourbon, Missouri and Natasha Keen of Sullivan, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Alan "Dale" Ives Alan "Dale" Ives of Weldon Spring, Missouri, formerly of Steelville, Missouri was born April 6, 1935 in Steelville, Missouri to Edward and Belle Halbert Ives and passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 7 days. On December 10, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri he married Jetta Ann Kinnison and to this union five children were born. Dale served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962. For many years, he was a truck driver for the local Teamster's Union. He was a dedicated member and attended the Teamster's monthly meetings for years. In his younger days, he enjoyed bowling. In his spare time, he delivered Meals on Wheels in St. Peters, Missouri. He also loved playing baseball and listening to the St. Louis Cardinals and Rams. He enjoyed his dogs, watching birds and driving his "Chevy." He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Belle Ives. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Jetta Ives of Weldon Spring, Missouri; four sons, Dane Ives and wife Ruth, Tony Ives and wife Lynne, Ed Ives and Daryl Ives and wife Laura; one daughter, Deanna Janis and husband Wayne; 14 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until service time on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Special music of "I'll See You Again" and "I Want to Stroll Over Heaven With You" was sung and played by Rev. Jerry Beers. Other music of "Amazing Grace" was sung by family and friends and "I Did It My Way" was also played. Memories were shared by Dane Ives and a poem was shared by three of the granddaughters, Katie Janis, Aly Janis and Jetta Ives. Committal prayer, interment and full military honors by the U.S. Army and St. James VFW Post 5608 were in the Schwieder Cemetery. Casket bearers were Dane Ives, Tony Ives, Ed Ives, Daryl Ives and Deanna Janis. Arrangements under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, Missouri.
