She entered eternal life Sunday, October 15, 2000, in the Gibbs Care Center, Steelville, Mo., at the age of 90 years, 7 months and 5 days. On October 24, 1924, in Belleville, Illinois, Gerriene was united in marriage to Bert Frank Abney. Three sons and one daughter were born to this union. They enjoyed fifty-four years together before his death, June 15, 1978. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Claude Jones Britton, James Floyd Britton, William Rainey Britton and Woodrow Wilson Britton; one sister, Edith May Cassidy; one step-sister Dorothy Chandler, one step-brother Logan Neff and one granddaughter, Angie Abney Turkol. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted daughter, Elnor and husband Richard Lehman of St. James, Mo.; three sons Tony Abney of Viburnum, Mo., Minuard Abney and wife Carilyn of Ironton, Mo., Alfred Abney and wife Dosha of Steelville, Mo. Helen Nora Carey Helen Nora Carey nee Hercy of Cuba, Mo. was born on May 13, 1918 at St. Louis, Mo. to the union of Alexander Hercy and Emma Hercy nee Simpson and passed away on October 16, 2000 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center of Rolla, Mo. at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 3 days. On July 12, 1939 Helen was united in marriage to Charles Carey at Cuba, Mo. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert and Alex Hercy and one sister Julia Seago. She was a active member of Holy Cross Church of Cuba, Mo. until her health started to fail. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her devoted husband Charles Carey; three sons Dennis Carey and wife Jeri, Robert Carey and wife Mary Ann and James Carey and wife Mary Jane; one daughter Virginia Carey; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. Bonnie Jean Click Bonnie Jean Click was born on May 28, 1948 at Butts, Mo. to Donald and Lorene Brush and passed away October 20, 2000 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Mo. at the age of 52 years, 4 months and 22 days. Bonnie attended school in Ohio and later Crawford County R-1 in Bourbon. In 1965 she married William M. Click in Eureka, Mo. and to this union 6 children were born. Bonnie professed her faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age, and was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Leasburg, Mo. She was a housewife, and spent much of her time raising her family. Her hobby was playing Bingo. Bonnie was preceded in death by her father Donald Brush, and her husband William M. William Noah Hall William Noah Hall of Cuba, Mo. was born on November 29, 1944 at Norton, Virginia to the union of Phillip Edward Hall and Marth Ann Hall nee Hamilton and passed away on October 17, 2000 at Cuba, Mo. at the age of 55 years, 10 months and 18 days. He was preceded in death by his parents. He served in the Army of the United States of America during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged on December 31, 1968. On June 25, 1988 he was united in marriage to Shirley Young Lewis at Cuba, Mo. They had been happily married for 12 years. William was a member of the Cuba VFW. Harmon of Bourbon, Mo. passed away on Friday, October 19, 2000 at the age of 66 years. Mrs. Harmon was born July 9, 1934 at Hinch, Mo. to the late Fred and Julia (Woods) Farris. She was raised in the Hinch area and on November 4, 1961 was married to John W. Harmon at Leasburg, Mo. This marriage was blessed with two children, a son, Roger Harmon of Sullivan and a daughter, Ashley Wood and her husband, Kenny of Cuba, Mo. Janie was a hard working farm wife and mother who helped her husband on their 3rd generation farm. She was a happy person who enjoyed cooking, loved gardening and her cats and dogs. Even through her struggles with diabetes and arthritis, Janie maintained a spirit of love and guidance which she passed on to her family and many friends. Along with her son and daughter, Janie is survived by one brother, William Farris and wife, Georgia of St. Louis; two sisters, Sadie Woods of Sullivan and Reba Amann of St. Louis; three sisters-in-law, Mary Duncan of Louis, Pauline Farris of Cuba, and Ruth Weatherly of Bourbon; two brothers-in-law, Ray Hall and wife, Florence of St. Clair and Sloan Harmon of Bourbon; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Three brothers, Harold, Edwin and James Farris preceded her in death. Frieda Wymer Hibler Frieda Delois Kaiser, daughter of the late Edward Earnest Kaiser and Ella Bell Lampkins Kaiser was born in Gibson County, Indiana on Saturday, November 18, 1922 and passed away Saturday, October 14, 2000, at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 26 days. She leaves her loving son, Dean Wymer and wife Georgia of Wildwood, Mo. and her devoted daughter, Diane Green Morhaus and husband Jack of Idialantic, Florida; two sisters, Vena Romine of Gary, Indiana, and Gladys Isgrig of Caledonia, Mo. Three grandsons, Darren and David Green and Dean Wymer, Jr.; five great-grandsons, Shawn, Grant and Ryan Green and Trey and Chad Wymer; sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews and many friends. Frieda was preceded in death by two husbands, Harry Wymer and Ralph Hibler, and one brother, Cletus Kaiser. She was a member of Moline Baptist Church in St. Louis and was a faithful servant until her health failed and she moved out of the area, at which time she moved her church membership back to Fairview Baptist Church in Butts, Mo., where, after becoming a Christian at an early age, she was originally a member. The way she lived her life was a great testimony as to how she loved God and her family. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends. Special music was provided by her nephew, Alan Isgrig, vocalist and pianist, special friend, Dan Roberts. Committal prayers and interment was in Fairview Cemetery. Mayer of Bourbon, Mo., passed away Friday, October 20, 2000 at the age of 76 years. Mrs. Mayer was born April 15, 1924 at St. Louis, Mo. to the late Henry Joseph and Emma Anna (Weltz) Brendel. On April 15, 1944 she was married to John Gerber and to this marriage seven children were born of which a daughter Angela Gerber preceded her in death. Mr. Gerber preceded her in death in January of 1967. On June 28, 1968 Elizabeth was married to Raymond Mayer in Saint Francis Catholic Church at Bourbon, Mo. She was employed for a time as a seamstress in the garment industry and later was a housekeeper in the motel trade. Elizabeth also worked at the former Ramsey Corporation in Sullivan, however her most fulfilling vocation was that of a homemaker, wife and mother. She loved the outdoors and was a fun-loving, outgoing person. Her life was based around her family and church. She also found pleasure in gardening, sewing, quilting and dancing. Elizabeth was a lady with a resounding personality who will long be remembered by all who knew her for the love she showed with them. She is survived by her husband Raymond, three sons; John Gerber of Coshocton, Ohio, Matthew Gerber of St. Clair, Mo. and Mark Gerber of Grove Spring, Mo.; three daughters, Mary Edwards of Sullivan, Rosalie Bolon of Rolla, Mo. and Lucy Diefenbach of Manchester, Mo.; one brother, Francis Brendel of Bourbon, and two sisters, Mary Southard and Lorraine Brune, both of Union, Mo.; 16 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and was anxiously awaiting the birth of another great-grandson, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Mayer was also preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, Carl and Andrew Brendel and by two sisters, Emma Russo and Dorothy Trueb. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday at 10:00 a.m. from Saint Francis Catholic Church in Bourbon with the Rev. Father Robert Duesdieker officiating. Interment was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation for Mrs. Mayer was from 4:30 until 9:00 p.m. Sunday at the Eaton Funeral Chapel in Bourbon where a parish wake service was conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday evening. Viola Marie McCormick Viola Marie McCormick was born Saturday, October 14, 1916, at Jamestown, Mo., a twin daughter of the late Truly Kay and Grace (Cofer) Kay. She entered eternal rest Saturday, October 14, 2000, at her home on McCormick Road, Steelville, Mo., on her 84th birthday. At St. Louis, Mo. on April 17, 1936, Viola was united in marriage to Raymond Milton McCormick. One son, Raymond and one daughter, Judy, were born to this union. Her husband preceded her in death, as did one brother, Paul Kay. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted daughter, Judy Adams; her loving son, Raymond, both of Steelville, Mo.; her twin sister, Iola and husband Walter Fullrich of New Franklin, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Hazel Kay of LaPorte City, Iowa. He served his country in the United States Army National Guard of Missouri, and received an honorable discharge June 1, 1983. Mary Peters Mary Peters, 89, of Belle passed away late Wednesday night, October 11, 2000 at the Gasconade Manor Nursing Home in Owensville. Mary was born December 28, 1910 in High Gate. She is the daughter of the late Thomas and Cynthia West Peters. Mary is survived by one son Bill Peters of Owensville and one dear friend Ladonna Heck with her husband Victor of Belle. Also surviving are two grandchildren Scott Peters of Cuba, Mo. and Pam Little with her husband Kevin of Clinton, Mo. There are six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mary is preceded in death by two brothers Joe and Ed Peters and two sisters Opal Jenkins and Sophia Britton. Mary was a charter member of the Faith Baptist Church in Belle and very active in church work during her life. Services were held Friday, Oct. 13, 2000 from the Faith Baptist Church in Belle with Pastors Doug Lane and Kenneth Patterson co-officiating. Interment was in High Gate Community Cemetery. Twyla Belle Shuey Twyla Belle Shuey nee Knorpp of Cuba, Mo. was born on November 7, 1908 at Carthage, Mo. to the union of William Knorpp and Maude Knorpp nee Grubb and passed away on October 18, 2000 at Cuba, Mo. at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 10 days. Twyla has been a long time resident of Cuba, Mo. She was an active member of the Cuba Eastern Star Chapter No. 398, The White Shrine and a member of the Cuba Christian Church. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her two sons William Shuey and wife Gloria and Kenneth Shuey and wife Bernice; one step-daughter Delores Blunt; one sister Jean Malone; two grandchildren, Paul and Julia Shuey and Matthew and Barbara Shuey; two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Casey Shuey; other relatives and many friends. Raymond Wilford Slowensky Ray Slowensky was born Thursday, September 14, 1916, a son of the late William Slowensky and Anna (Slovensky) Slowensky and entered eternal rest Monday, October 16, 2000, in the Missouri Baptist Medical Center, St. Louis, Mo., at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 2 days. On December 10, 1939, at Shirley, Mo., he was united in marriage to Mavis Manion. One son was born to this union. They would soon have celebrated sixty-one years together. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife Mavis of the home; their son, Raymond William "Bill" Slowensky and wife Jean of Steelville, Mo.; one sister, Esther and husband Noel Johnston of Farmington, Mo.; one grandson, John William Slowensky and wife Molly of St. James, Mo. Brother and sisters-in-law Walter and Lillian Manion of Farmington, Mo., Fern Perkins of St. Louis, Mo., Greta Manion of St. Louis, Mo., Pauline Manion of Kentucky, June Manion of Florida, and Katherine Manion of Potosi, Mo. Nieces, nephews, cousins, who will remember Ray as a strong man who worked hard all of his life with few complaints. He loved his God, his family, his friends, making sorghum, and listening to "Good Old Bluegrass Music." He lived his life by following the Golden Rule to the fullest. He was always there to help a neighbor save a calf, get the wagon-full of hay under the barn roof before the storm hit, or pull them out of the Huzzah Creek when the water was rising too fast. When Ray was in need of help, those same neighbors were always there for him. The whole family was very happy that Ray had the honor of seeing his beloved farm declared a Missouri Century Farm by the College of Agriculture at the University of Missouri. Ray will be missed by his family and many friends. He leaves a legacy of honest dealings, helpfulness to others, and environmental stewardship. In addition to his parents Ray was preceded in death by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Claude and Bertha Manion, Leo, Frank, Clifton, Floyd, and Kermit Manion, Harry Perkins, Norma Faye and Jerry Frank.
