MO Local Obituaries for the Week updated October 26, 2006 Ralph Kenneth Hendrix Ralph Kenneth Hendrix of Steelville, Missouri was born in Steelville, Missouri on Tuesday, May 20, 1930 to Elmer Levi Hendrix and Emma Jane (Ray) Hendrix. He passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 24 days. Kenneth served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He worked at Brown Shoe Factory in Steelville, Missouri for several years then later for Chrysler Corp. in Fenton, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Aline Pinson and husband Jewell, Hildred Becker and husband Ed, Margaret Callahan and husband Fred; brothers, Ray Hendrix and Raymond Hendrix and wife Lorene. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his children, John Hendrix and wife Brenda of Cuba, Missouri, Deborah Holmes and husband David of Cuba, Missouri, Mark Hendrix and wife Kevin of Rolla, Missouri, Paul Hendrix and wife Tammy of Cuba, Missouri; brother, William Hendrix and wife Neta May of Plymouth, North Carolina; 14 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. All arrangements were under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. Elsie Mildred Hill Elsie Mildred Hill of Sullivan, Missouri, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2006 at the age of 79 years. She was born on February 27, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri to James Franklin and Lena Gertrude (nee Tullock) Vance, one of eight children. She married Clyde Hill on December 2, 1944 in Steelville, Missouri. Her favorite pastime was entertaining and visiting with her nine children and their families. She also enjoyed embroidering and quilting. When not visiting with family, Elsie was reading and studying her Bible. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; her parents, James and Lena; brothers, Gene, Dale and Tom Vance; sister, Frieda Vance; and great grandsons, Ricky Webb and Ean Hill. Elsie is survived by five sons, Ronnie Hill and Lisa, Roger Hill and Ruth, Mike Hill and wife Sherri, Clyde Hill and wife Toni, all of Sullivan, Missouri, Keith Hill and wife Gerri of Pennsylvania; four daughters, Mary Webb, Betty Weppner and husband Wayne, all of Sullivan, Missouri, Pat Crowder and husband Don, Sheila Martin and husband Kevin, all of Bourbon. One brother, Lester Vance and wife Lottie of Steelville, Missouri; two sisters, Lee Kearney of Jennings, Missouri and Esher Clonts of St. Louis, Missouri; 27 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; many friends and family. Funeral services for Elsie Hill were conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, 2006 in the First United Methodist Church in Bourbon with pastors Jeff Bent and Mike Potter officiating. Interment was in the Bourbon Cemetery. All arrangements under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home. Joseph Samson Marlar Joseph Samson "Sam" Marlar, age 59, of Steelville, Missouri passed away Sunday, October 1, 2006. He was born Thursday, February 27, 1947, the son of William Clifford Marlar and Minnie Mullinax Marlar Price. He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Paul and Matthew and one sister, Mary Kennedy. He is survived by four brothers, Lloyd Marlar of Terre De lake, Missouri, Melvin Marlar of St. Louis, Missouri, Robert Marlar of Park Hills, Missouri and James Marlar of Leadington, Missouri; two sisters, Rachel Layton of Farmington, Missouri and Dollie Parker of Park Hills, Missouri; many nieces, nephews and family friends. Memorial services for Sam Marlar were held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 in the First Baptist Church in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Paul Davis and Cindy Martin officiating. Special music of "Because He Lives," "Amazing Grace" and "Mansion over the Hilltop" were sung and played by Darla Vance. Concluding the service was a balloon release in Sam's memory with the family and friends singing "I'll Fly Away" accompanied by Darla Vance. Burial was in the Jefferson Barracks Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. The family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, Missouri. David John Murray David John Murray of Cuba, Missouri was born September 28, 1947 at Skiatook, Oklahoma to the union of Harry John Murray and Amanda Rebecca (nee Staniford) Murray and passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at the age of 59 years and 20 days. David served in the United States Army from 1964 until 1975. He was stationed in Africa from 1972-1974. He was the owner/operator of the Louisiana Bay and the Smokey Mountain Bar-B-Que restaurants in Tulsa, Oklahoma for many years. David was a very talented person, he made beautiful pieces of jewelry for over 30 years and baskets for the past six years. He was always making or creating something and was truly willing to learn about something new. He knew the make, model and what type of motor was in every old car, but best of all he knew how to fix and repair them. David moved to Cuba in March of this year after the hurricane hit his home in Gulf Port, Mississippi. He was a loving son, father, grandfather, companion, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. David is preceded in death by his parents, Harry John and Amanda Rebecca Murray and one brother, Joe Murray. Those who are left to mourn his passing is his loving daughter, Keli and husband Jim Mulkey of Cuba, Missouri; companion of eight years, Carolyn Hinton of Cuba, Missouri; two grandchildren, Makenzie Lynn and Brining James Mulkey of Cuba, Missouri; one sister, Ann and husband Bill Kirkpatrick of Strafford, Kansas; four stepchildren, Bobby, Kari, Tina and Shelly; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Graveside service was at 11 a.m. Monday, October 23, 2006 at Osage Gardens Cemetery, Skiatook, Oklahoma. The Murray family was served by the Britton Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. Marvin Robert Rippelmeyer Marvin Robert Rippelmeyer passed away at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri on October 20, 2006. He was 62 years of age. Marvin was born on June 30, 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri to his parents, Russell and Helen (Rahu) Rippelmeyer. He was united in marriage to Donna Louise Pergner in Reno, Nevada on January 25, 1995. He was a retired school teacher and taught in the Cuba and St. James School Districts for 30 years. Marvin is survived by his wife of the home, Donna Ripplemeyre of St. James, Missouri; one son, Michael Rippelmyer of St. James, Missouri and one daughter, Michelle Harvey and husband Mike of Waterloo, Illinois; three step-sons, John Tutor and wife Kathy of Buloxa, Mississippi, Bret Campbell and wife Lisa of Lovelock, Nevada, and Bart Campbell and wife Lisa of Lovelock, Nevada; two grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren a host of extended family and friends. Marvin will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Helen (Rahu) Rippelmeyer. Visitation was from 4 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 until time of service at 7:30 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel in St. James, Missouri with John Hagler speaker. Music was provided by Lori Garver, vocalist and Connie Rhea, organist with Lori singing "One Day at a Time" and "Daddy's Hands." John Albert Smith John Albert Smith of Cuba, Missouri, formerly of St. Louis, Missouri was born on Sunday, February 15, 1948 in Calhoun, Georgia to John A. Smith and Margaret (Fields) Smith. He passed away at Cuba Manor on Sunday, October 15, 2006 at the age of 58 years and 8 months. John married Ruthann Cole on October 10, 1987 in St. Louis, Missouri and to this union 10 children were born. John worked in sales most of his adult life. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and most of all spending time with his family whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his mother and sister-in-law, Maryanne Cole. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife, Ruthann Smith of Vandalia, Missouri; children, John A.
