Brummet of Cuba, Missouri was born on February 3, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri and passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the age of 81 years. Bill was united in marriage to Ruth Altman on October 3, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri and to this union three children were born. Bill retired from John Swift Printing Company in St. Louis as a Pressman, after many years of dedicated service. He enjoyed living at Indian Hills, fishing, square dancing and woodworking. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Brummet and Nellie Dowdy; and wife, Ruth Brummet. He is survived by his three children, Gary and wife Krystal Brummet of Kansas City, Kansas, Larry Brummet of Hazelwood, Missouri and Janine and husband Doug Mallory of Cuba, Missouri; two sisters, Sherry Grisco of Theodosia, Missouri and Jackie and husband Bill Groshius of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held on Monday, October 24, 2016 from 11 a.m.-noon at the Mizell Funeral Home in Cuba, Missouri. Interment followed at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri Arrangements under the direction of the Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri. Lt. Col. Alphonse Hart Campbell Lt. Col. Alphonse Hart Campbell was born November 1, 1916, in St. Louis, Missouri to Emory Wilson and Mary Virginia (Miller) Campbell and passed away October 20, 2016 at the age of 99 years. He lived in the St. Louis area to age 13 when, at the threat of the on-coming depression, his father moved the family to their farm near St. James, Missouri. Al was delighted with his transition from the huge Ben Blewett Intermediate School in St. Louis, to a one-room rural school with a dozen pupils. After graduation from St. James High School, Al went to work for the Frisco Railroad legal department in St. Louis, Missouri. Following Pearl Harbor, Al joined the Army. He attended infantry training at Camp Bowie, Texas, with the 31st Dixie Division. While on Louisiana Maneuvers, he was ordered to Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, to attend Officers Candidate School. On November 21, 1942, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and ordered to McDill Field, Tampa, Florida, to activate an ordnance supply maintenance company. Upon completion, he was ordered back to Aberdeen for advanced schooling in aviation ordnance. He was then sent to the 8th Air Force in England. After serving in England and Africa during the war, Al returned to St. James. where he started a business and married Esther Mae Halbert of Steelville, Missouri. He was recalled to active duty. Al served his country in three wars. He retired as a Lt. Colonel, USAF. Lured to Branson, Missouri by his brother Ed, Al joined a real estate agency as a salesman. He became a broker when he and another Air Force retiree purchased the firm. He worked there for 15 years then sold his interest to accept a government position to assist in the reactivation of two ammunition manufacturing plants. Three years later, he retired to Branson to enjoy golfing, gardening, fishing, his vast library of Big Band music. Al loved baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He and his brother Ed have paver blocks near the entrance to the new Busch Stadium bearing the inscription "Knot Hole Gang Member and Cardinal fan since 1928". He was preceded in death by his parents; a wife of 51 years; four brothers, Emory John, Leland Vincent, Clarence Ralph and Edwin Wilson; sister, Dorothy Virginia; granddaughter, Jennifer Caroline Worthy; grandson, James Patrick Worthy; daughter, Karen Mae Laird and husband Dr. James B. Laird. He is survived by daughter, Kathleen Ann Campbell; great granddaughters, Madeline Faith Laird and Camille Malkmus; other relatives and friends. Billie gene Chandler Billie Gene Chandler of Cuba, Missouri was born on March 25, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri to Benjamin H. and Gertrude P. (Evans) Chandler and passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the age of 88 years. Billie was united in marriage to Neoma Jane Cutter on August 1, 1953 in Lock Port, New York and to this union five children were born. Billie retired from McDonnell Douglas as an Inspector, after many years of service. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He regularly attended the Cuba Free Will Baptist Church and on most days he could be found at the Cuba Senior Center volunteering. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Gertrude Chandler; wife, Neoma J. Chandler; three daughters, Bonnie Schnell, Becky Chandler and Vicky Chandler; and two brothers. He is survived by two children, Mike Chandler of Cuba, Missouri and Lindy and husband Perry Myers of Bourbon, Missouri; four grandchildren, Amanda and husband Dustin Corbett, Erin and husband Joe Setzer, Nikki and husband Ryan Scott and Jesse Chandler; seven great grandchildren, Nicole, Shelby, Braxton, Audrey, Jacob, Silas and Kayla; one brother, Jack Chandler of Illinois; other relatives and friends. Ben Leroy Chew Ben Leroy Chew of Sullivan, Missouri formerly of Cuba, Missouri was born Wednesday, April 16, 1941 at Sullivan, Missouri to Harry E. and Helen (nee Winfrey) Chew and passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the age of 75 years. Ben, or Leroy as he was known by many, married Arbell Turnbough on October 5, 1963 at Cuba, Missouri. Ben worked from 1964 till 1969 for the City of Cuba. In September of 1969 he went to work for MODOT and he retired on September 1, 2000 after 31 years of dedicated service. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, gardening and mushroom hunting. Ben and Arbell enjoyed traveling the back roads looking for deer, going to the river to sit on the bank and have supper and setting outside on the front porch watching the world go by. They traveled every year to Arkansas to visit family and made several trips to Florida to visit family also. Ben treasured the times all of his children were together and he would just sit back and listen to them telling stories. Family gatherings were truly his favorite time of year especially Thanksgivings at the VFW in Leasburg and Christmas when they all played card games together. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Helen Chew; son, Ben L. Richard Wayne Enloe Richard Wayne Enloe of Cuba, Missouri was born Thursday, April 13, 1922 at Cuba, Missouri to James L. and Verona (nee Graham) Enloe and passed away on Monday, October 18, 2016 at the age of 94 years. Richard proudly served in the United States Navy from October 25, 1944 until June 8, 1946. He received the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the American Campaign Medal while serving during World War II. Richard married Dorothy Mitchell on September 15, 1946 at Rolla, Missouri and to this union two sons were born. After the service Richard went to work for the United States Postal Service. He was a rural mail carrier for 30 years in the area before he retired in 1977. After retiring for just a short time Richard went back to work as a real estate agent for Britton Realty and retired from Century 21 in 2007 after 30 years of selling real estate. Richard knew everyone in town and the surrounding area because he had either delivered their mail, help them sale a home or helped them purchase a home. Nearly every weekday you could find Richard at the Cuba Senior Center. He would play his harmonica at the center when they were having special music. Richard went to many nursing home, retirement homes and churches to play his harmonica. He had played for 90+ years. Richard was a devout member of the First Baptist Church of Cuba, Missouri for all of his adult life. He was a member of the D.A.V. and the National Rural Mail Carrier Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Verona Enloe; wife, Dorothy Enloe; and two brothers, Virgil and wife Harriette Enloe and Melvin Enloe. Hazel Huff Hazel Huff (nee Eaton) was born in Keysville, Missouri on Thursday, June 12, 1919 to William Azro Eaton and Lucy Ann (Cassidy) Eaton and passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the age of 97 years, 4 months and 4 days. Hazel accepted the Lord as her Savior and was a member of First Assembly of God Church, Steelville, Missouri. She later attended Straightway Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri. She married Bascom "Bass" Eaton and to this union four children were born. After his passing she married Robert "Bob" Huff on June 9, 1978 in Steelville, Missouri. She worked for 14 years at Brown Shoe Company, Steelville, Missouri. She enjoyed playing bingo, working crossword puzzles, embroidery, quilting and cooking. She was well known for her delicious chicken and dumplings. Lindell Clyde Staples Lindell Clyde Staples of Cuba, Missouri was born on Thursday, December 12, 1929 at Desloge, Missouri to Clyde and Myrtle Lenora (nee Hanson) Staples and passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the age of 86 years. Lindell married Betty Lee on October 31, 1948 at Berryman, Missouri. Lindell traveled back and forth to St. Louis, Missouri every day from 1951-1992, while he was employed for Boeing (formerly McDonnell Aircraft) and then McDonnell Douglas. In his younger years Lindell went deer hunting every year. He enjoyed planting a garden. He spent hours reading and was an avid baseball fan and the St. Louis Cardinals was his favorite team. Lindell volunteered many hours at the Cuba VFW and was made an honorary member. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Myrtle Staples; one grandson, Joshua Wyatt Staples; two sisters, Iva Jean Staples and Mary Lou Harmon; one brother, James William Staples; one brother-in-law, Dennis Lee; and one sister-in-law, June Garrison. Velma Florence Williams Velma Florence Williams, of Rolla, Missouri was born on December 10, 1923 in Edgar Springs, Missouri to Floyd Wayne and Margaret (Case) Price and passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016 at the age of 92 years. In 1942 she married Lloyd Williams. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Margaret Price; husband, Lloyd Williams in August of 1996; two brothers and two sisters. Velma enjoyed horseback riding, working in women's ministry and attending church. She also loved to cook and to garden. Velma found comfort in reading her Bible and listening to Gaither family gospel music. Poetry and crocheting were other enjoyments in her life.
