Eva Donita "Donnie" Grossman
Eva Donita "Donnie" Grossman Nee Ellis of Cuba, Missouri was born on May 5,
1923 in Clinton, Indiana to the union of George Ellis and Lena (Sanders)
Ellis and passed away on October 18, 2002 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital
in Sullivan, Missouri, at the age of 79 years, 5 months and 13 days.
On July 17, 1977, Donnie was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Grossman in
Las Vegas, Nevada. They were happily married until he preceded her in death
on June 9, 1998.
Donnie was also preceded in death by her parents.
Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her two sons
Dennis Hattersley and wife Cathy and Larry Hattersley and wife Pat; two
brothers Earnest Ellis and George Ellis and wife Alice; one sister Olga
Schneider; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; other relatives
and friends.
Donnie was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother,
good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed.
Interment was in the Jefferson Barracks Cemetary, St. Louis, Missouri.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society. All arrangements were under the
direction of The Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Nancy Jane Schmitt
Nancy J. Schmitt nee Riley was born Sunday, March 27, 1932 at St. Louis,
Missouri, a daughter of the late John J. Riley and Margaret Mowrey Riley.
She entered eternal rest Wednesday, October 16, 202 at the Missouri Baptist
Medical Center, Sullivan, Missouri, at the age of 70 years, 6 months and 19
days.
On March 17, 1951, at the Old Cathedral, St. Louis, Missouri, Nancy was
united in marriage to James H. Schmitt. They have enjoyed over 50 years
together. To this union three sons and six daughters were born.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted husband, James
H. Schmitt of Steelville, Missouri; three sons and six daughters, Michael
Schmitt of Austin, Texas, Barbara and husband Ray Hatch of Houston, Texas,
Catherine and husband Bruce Boyer of Mineral Point, Missouri, Mary and
husband Dennis Lane of Granite City, Illinois, Richard Schmitt of Point
Hope, Alaska, Edward Schmitt and wife Brenda of Eureka, Missouri, Suzanne
and husband Mark Hatcher of Cuba, Missouri, Theresa Brand of Cuba, Missouri
and Elizabeth and husband Chris Smith of Kansas City, Kansas; 23
grandchildren.
Also remaining is one brother, John Riley of Bolivar; two sisters, Mary and
husband Don Bubeck of Webster Groves, Missouri and Ellen and husband Jack
Mauer of Naples, Florida; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and
many friends who will remember her as loving, caring and witty.
She will be missed also by her church family, her Garden Clue, the
Steelville Magnolia Luncheon Club, Literary Ladies League, Aim High
Extension Club and all her many friends.
Nancy J. Schmitt lay in state 59 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2002 at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 21, 2002 at St.
Michael's Catholic Church, Steelville, Missouri with Father James Finder
officiating. Musical selections were provided by Mary Elders Pounds.
Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville,
Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Russell Carney, Glen Eaton, Al
Engelbrecht, John Fester, Ray Hatch and Urban Kuenz. Traditional hymns were
played graveside on bagpipes by Clare Kujath.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Missouri.
Grace Ann Westrup
Grace Ann Westrup nee Pipkin was born Thursday, December 18, 1913, a
daughter of the late Philip E. Pipkin (nee Waterhout) and entered into
eternal life Sunday, October 13, 2002 at her home, Cherryville, Missouri,
at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 25 days.
On February 16, 1935, at St. Charles, Missouri, Grace was united in
marriage to George Herbert Westrup. Three sons were born to this union.
They enjoyed 57 years together before his death, April 17, 1992.
In addition to her parents and her husband George, one brother, Byron
Hornemann, preceded Grace in death.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her three devoted sons,
Warren Westrup and wife Judith of Baker, Florida, Walter Westrup and wife
Shirley of Davisville, Missouri and Philip Westrup and wife Deborah of
Cherryville, Missouri.
Six grandchildren: Warren D. Westrup of Bonne Terre, Missouri, David
Westrup and wife Rebecca of Baker, Florida, Debbie Burbridge of Joplin,
Missouri, Wade Westrup and fiancee Mary of Cherryville, Missouri, Katherine
and husband David Shaw of Moscow Mills, Missouri, Debra and husband John
Watkins of St. James, Missouri.
Ten great grandchildren, Angie, Michael, Emily, Gabe, Evette, Brittany and
Skyler Westrup, Douglas Burbridge, Cody and Logan Shaw, nieces, nephews,
cousins, other relatives and many friends who will remember her as a
wonderful caring and compassionate mother and grandmother.
She was always ready to give her children and grandchildren a home, ready
to listen to their troubles, assure them and help in anyway she could. She
had a strong belief and faith in God and was a member of Sligo Methodist
Church and attended until ill health prevented her from doing so.
She had a great sense of humor and always looked for the bright side of
difficulties. She loved flowers, dogs and birds. She always had a dog,
which was always spoiled rotten.
She fed the birds year round, sometimes by the hundreds. She loved working
crossword puzzles. We have been blessed and she has enriched our lives. Her
voice, her laughter and her love will be missed but will always be tucked
into a corner of our hearts.
Grace Ann Westrup lay in state 48 p.m. Monday, October 15, 2002 at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2002 in the
Britton Chapel with Pastor Jeannette Bragg officiating.
Committal prayers and interment were in Sligo Cemetery, Sligo, Missouri.
Serving as pallbearers were Allen Coleman, David Westrup, Wade Westrup and
Warren D. Westrup, David Shaw, Louis Stuckmeier and John Watkins.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri.
Cora Agnes Smith
Cora Agnes Smith nee Duran was born Tuesday, November 17, 1914, in Holland,
Arkansas, a daughter of the late Oliver Duran and Maggie Estella Duran (nee
Parham).
She entered eternal rest Tuesday, October 22, 2002, in the DePaul Health
Center, Bridgeton, Missouri, at the age of 87 years, 11 months and 5 days.
On November 29, 1933, in Dunkin County, Arkansas, Cora was united in
marriage to Paul Edward Smith. One daughter Delphia Estella was born to
this union. Delphia died as an infant. They had enjoyed over 62 years
together before his death, October 24, 1996.
Cora was also preceded in death by three sisters, Lexie Sweeten, Lois
Blackburn, Bertha Miller and one brother, Henry Albert Duran.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are three sisters, Artra
Wilcher of Swartz Creep, Michigan, Lorene Blankenship of Kansas City,
Pennsylvania and Wanda Long of Woodsworth, Louisiana; nieces, nephews,
cousins, other relatives and friends.
Cora Agnes Smith (nee Duran) lay in state after 5 p.m. Friday, October 25,
2002, at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2002, in the
Britton Chapel with Rev. Bob Coleman officiating.
Committal prayers and interment were in the Anaconda Cemetery, Anaconda,
Missouri. Pallbearers were Dale Bay, Frank Runyon, Larry Runyon, Ron Runyon
and Larry Sweeten.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Missouri.
Orville Floyd Stoer
Orville Floyd Stoer of Cuba, Missouri was born on May 15, 1928 to the union
of Ferdinand Stoer and Cora (Ross) Stoer and passed away suddenly on
October 23, 2002 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri at
the age of 74 years, 5 months and 8 days.
Orville served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He
received the Certificates of Satisfactory Service, Honorable Service lapel
button, U.S. Marine Corps Honorable Discharge button, World War II Victory
Medal and Asiatic Pacific medal. He was honorable discharged on July 16,
1949.
On June 4, 1954, Orville was united in marriage to Lola Marie Ramsey in
Cuba, Missouri. One daughter, Pamela, and two sons, Mark and Mikel, were
born to this union. They were happily married for 48 years.
Orville was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Beryl
Mestemacher.
After retiring from McDonnel Douglass in St. Louis, Missouri, he and Lola
Marie moved to Cuba and made their home there.
He was a member of the Trinity Chapel, Machinist Union Local 871, First
Past President of Junior Order of Odd Fellows in St. Louis, Missouri and a
Scout Master of Boy Scouts of America at Westside General Baptist Church
where he also served as a trustee.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving wife
Lola Marie Stoer; one daughter, Pamela Bressie and husband Tom; two sons,
Mark Stoer and fiancee Kathy Perigo and Mikel Stoer and wife Brenda; two
brothers Ferdinand Stoer Jr. and wife Sachi and Ross Stoer.
Grandchildren: Shannon Stoer, Amber Stoer, Danny Shelton, Tanya Bressie,
T.J. Bressie, Heyewot Kinfe and Michelle Allison; three great
granddaughters, other relatives and many friends.
Orville Floyd Stoer was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather,
great grandfather, brother, good friends to all who knew him and will be
sadly missed.
Orville Floyd Stoer was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri. Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 26, 2002 at 1
p.m. at the Trinity Chapel, Cuba, Missouri.
Interment was in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. All arrangements
were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
