Robert A. Bock
Robert A. Bock of Bourbon, Mo. passed away Thursday, October 25, 2001 at
the age of 66 years.
Bob, as his family and friends knew him, was born in the New Rock area near
Bourbon on October 28, 1934 to Andrew and Carrie (Merkel) Bock. His
vocation in life was that of a self-employed carpenter. Bob was also a
heavy equipment operator for K. R. Wilson Co. and owned and operated his
own backhoe service. His carpentry work was known throughout the area. He
honorably served his country with the United States Marine Corps during the
Korea War.
On August 30, 1958 Bob was united in marriage to Mary Lee Vance at Bourbon,
Mo. and to this union three children were born. Bob was saved and baptized
into the Baptist faith. He enjoyed camping and boating. He taught his
children how to water-ski and would often take Mary Lee fishing. Bob had a
great sense of humor and enjoyed a good joke and pulling pranks.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee nee Vance of Bourbon; two sons, Keith
Bock and wife Nickie of Bourbon and Kevin Bock of Sullivan; one daughter,
Tammy Ware and husband Leonard of Bourbon, seven grandchildren, other
relatives and friends. Along with his parents Bob was preceded in death by
a half-brother, Eugene Beamey and a sister Karen Bock who died in infancy.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2001 from
the Eaton Funeral Chapel in Bourbon, Missouri with Pastor Mike Bates
officiating. Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery.
John W. Coleman
John W. Coleman was born Wednesday, February 16, 1916 at Davisville, Mo., a
son of the late Otis F. Coleman and Delila Catherine (Setzer) Coleman. He
died suddenly Saturday, October 20, 2001, in Summerville, Mo. at the age of
85 years, 6 months and 4 days.
On June 19, 1943, John was united in marriage to Maudie Fay Swyers,
daughter of Nellie May and Marion F. Swyers. Three sons and three daughters
were born to this union. They have enjoyed over fifty-eight years together.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one son, John
Rodney Coleman, one daughter, Frances Nell Coleman, and one sister Argie
Catherine Coleman.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife, Maudie
Coleman of the home in Davisville, Mo.; two sons and two daughters, Lila
and husband Red Meridth of Afton, Mo., Margie and husband Jim Bobbitt of
Salem, Mo., Tom Coleman and wife Pam of Viburnum, Mo., Otis Coleman and
wife Sherri of Dillard, Mo.; a grandson that was raised as a son, John B.
Halbert and wife Teresa of Davisville, Mo.
One brother, Paul Coleman and wife Nola Jean of Beauford, Mo.; three
sisters, Helen Earls of Ironton, Mo., Margie Randall of Edwardsville,
Illinois, Dorothy Zumsteim of Redmond, Oregon; sister-in-law, Ida Jane
Jones of St. James, Mo.
Eleven additional grandchildren, Rick Halbert, Lila Halbert, Frannie Evans,
Bud Adams, Wes Bobbitt, Jessica Coleman, Julie Coleman, Tommy John Coleman,
Tera Coleman, Donna Coleman, and Mariah Coleman.
Thirteen great-grandchildren, John, Jake, and Katie Halbert, Frannie, Alli,
and Jeremiah Halbert, Megan Weaver, Andrew and Savannah Evans, Zach, Toni,
Brandon and Hannah Adams; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and
many friends.
John's entire life was spent on the family farm. He had strong ties to his
land, family, neighbors, business associates and friends. He took great
pride in raising quality cattle and he always enjoyed a good coon hunt. He
will be missed.
John W. Coleman lay in state 5-9 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2001, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 1
p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2001, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Daniel
Evans officiating. Musical selection was provided by vocalist Richmond Key
and Frannie Evans. A beautiful poem was written and given as a tribute to
his grandfather by Bud Adams.
Committal prayers and interment were in First Baptist Church Cemetery,
Cherryville, Mo. Serving as pallbearers were Bud Adams, Wes Bobbitt, Rick
Halbert, Health Newby, Neil Swyers and Rocky Swyers. Honorary pallbearers
were Tommy John Coleman, Jake P. Halbert, John D. Halbert, Roger Schafer
and Tom Swyers.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Brothers Funeral Home,
Steelville, Mo.
Wanda M. Engle
Wanda M. Engle nee Rice of Cuba, Mo. was born on August 9, 1915 at Searcy,
Arkansas to the union of Claude Rice and Anna (Zieman) Rice and passed away
on October 20, 2001 at Cuba, Mo. at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 11
days.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents.
On October 28, 1941 she was united in marriage to Loyd Engle at Cuba, Mo.
They have been happily married for 59 years.
She was a member of the Cuba United Methodist Church, a Charter member of
the Crawford County Historical Society, was a very active member of the
United Methodist Women and past choir member.
Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her devoted
husband Loyd Engle; three brothers Jim Rice and wife Gladys, Harlan Rice
and wife Bobbie and Milton "Red" Rice and wife Mary; one sister Clora E.
Winscher; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Wanda was a devoted wife, loving sister, aunt, good friend to all who knew
her and will be sadly missed.
Wanda Engle nee Rice was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
where funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at 11 a.m.
Interment was in the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under
the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Roy Taft Gilliam
Roy Taft Gilliam was born Tuesday, January 10, 1911 at Shoal Creek in
Crawford County, Mo., a son of the late James Luther (Newt) Gilliam and
Sarah Jane (Gibson) Gilliam.
He entered eternal rest Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at the home of his
daughter, Beverly, in St. Louis, Mo. at the age of 90 years, 9 months and
13 days.
On August 22, 1929, on Big Shoal Creek, Steelville, Mo., Taft was united in
marriage to Allie Chandler, daughter of Israel Sheldon Chandler and Lula
Anna (Evans) Chandler. To this union of seventy-one years, two sons and two
daughters were born.
In addition to his parents, and step-mother, Lola (Brakefield) Gilliam, he
was preceded in death by his wife, one sister Gearl and husband Jack
Hopkins; one grandson, Bobby Gilliam; one son-in-law, William Merritt; four
brothers-in-law, Lark, Charlie, Halic, and Levi Chandler and one
sister-in-law, Ida Martin Scott.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are four children, Leroy Eugene
Gilliam and wife Mary of Shoal Creek, Mo.; Mary Ann Merritt of St. Louis,
Mo.; Winford Ralph Gilliam and wife Peggy of Troy, Mo.; Beverly Christine
and husband Lloyd Moore of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Four brothers, George Gilliam and wife Lois, Donald Gilliam, and Elvie
Gilliam, all of St. Louis, Mo., and Jerry Gilliam and wife Sandy of
Cahokia, Illinois; two sisters, Rita Erickson, and Lena and husband Horce
Schmans all of St. Louis, Mo.; sister-in-law, Lena (Mrs. Lark) Chandler of
St. Louis, Mo.; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Roy Taft Gilliam lay in state 3-8 p.m. Thursday, October 25, 2001, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held
11 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2001, in the Briton Chapel with Rev. Leonard
Compton officiating. Musical selections were provided by vocalist Larry
Sherrill and pianist Geraldine Sherrill.
Committal prayers and interment were in Shoal Creek Cemetery,
Steelville-Viburnum, Mo. Serving as pallbearers were Zachary Brown, Lonnie
Chandler, Winford Gilliam, Jr., Dennis Merritt, Rob Reinwald, and Steve
Moore.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Mo.
Jeffery Glenn Parrett
Jeffery Glenn Parrett was born Saturday, December 21, 1935, at Cherryville,
Mo., a son of the late Elbert L. Parrett and Myrna Parrett (nee Petty). He
entered eternal life Thursday, October 25, 2001, at his home in
Cherryville, at the age of 65 years, 10 months and 4 days.
Master Sergeant (Retired) Parrett retired from the United States Air Force
after an illustrious twenty-two year career. His specialty and title was
Aircraft Maintenance Superintendent, Trainer Supervisor with 57th Field
Maintenance Squadron (TAC). He spent the next eighteen years working for
the United States Postal Service in Las Vegas, Nevada before he retired to
pursue his love for life in 1995.
He was loved and is mourned by his beloved wife Florence Parrett of the
home in Cherryville, Mo.; their children, Kenneth Parrett and wife Judy of
Jackson, Mo., Pauline Crews of Rolla, Mo., Kevin Parrett and wife Sheila of
Pennsylvania, Dwight Parrett and wife Dorothy and Steven Parrett, all of
Maine, Michael Jose and wife Tiffany, Bryan Gregory and wife Kendra, and
Elizabeth Brown, all of Denver, Colorado, Mark Anthony and wife Stephanie
of Washington, Robert Jose of Oregon, Virginia and husband Mark Peterson of
Nevada, Diana and husband Bruce Brown of Las Vegas, Nevada.
Brother and brother-in-law of Paul and Freda Parrett of Nashville,
Tennessee, Carl and Kathy Parrett of Salem, Mo., Lonnie and Cheryl Parrett
of St. Louis, Mo., Ruby and Clinton Hewkins, Norma and Jim Smith, all of
Salem, Mo., and Lillian Parrett of Oklahoma; many grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other
relatives and countless friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers,
Clarence and James (infant) Parrett.
Jeffery Glenn Parrett lay in state 3-8 p.m. Sunday, October 28, 2001, at
the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were
held 11 a.m. Monday, October 29, 2001 at the First Baptist Church,
Cherryville, Mo. with Rev. Harry White officiating.
Committal prayers and interment were in First Baptist Cemetery,
Cherryville, Mo. Full military honors and pallbearers were provided by Air
Force personnel from Whiteman Air Force Base, Knob Noster, Mo.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Brothers Funeral Home,
Steelville, Mo.
