MO Local Obituaries for the Week Nov. 3, 2005 Fay Christen Fay Christen of Cuba, Missouri, was born at Fremont, Missouri on March 4, 1916 to the union of John Morgan Brown and Mary Melinda Brown (nee Stark) and passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 21 days at the Current River Nursing Center at Doniphan, Missouri. Fay was united in marriage to William B. Christen on July 10, 1954 at Tunica, Mississippi. Fay worked 27 and a half years for the federal government and retired in Columbus, Ohio. She and her husband moved to Indian Hills in Cuba shortly before that. Fay enjoyed playing cards with her many friends and she love animals, especially dogs. Those who survive to mourn her passing are her very dear friends Sandy and Philip Braschler and a host of other friends. Funeral services were conduced at noon on Thursday, October 27 at Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri with Father James Finder from Holy Cross Catholic Church officiating. Interment was in the Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. Robert Calvin Fleshman Robert Calvin Fleshman passed away at his home in Cuba, Missouri on October 25, 2005. Robert was 65 years of age. Robert was born on March 28, 1940 to his parents Leo C. and Lillian C. (Price) Fleshman in Cuba, Missouri. Robert was a carpenter and did wood working. Robert is survived by his wife Linda Fleshman of Cuba, Missouri; three sisters Dorothy Hutto of Cuba, Missouri, Berthane Gaghagen of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Mildred Killian of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; eight children and 12 nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Preceding Robert in death are his parents: Leo C. and Lillian C. (Price) Fleshman and one brother: Orville Fleshman. Visitation was from 1-1:45 p.m. Thursday, October 27, 2005 at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri. Graveside services were held on Thursday, October 27, 2005 at 2 p.m. at the Kinder Cemetery in Cuba, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Walley Spencer, Patrick Villiamer, Jim Fleshman, Dale Hutto, John Killian, and D.J. Fleshman. Burial was in the family plot in the Kinder Cemetery in Cuba, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri. Jona Robert Greig Jona Robert Greig was born Tuesday, July 7, 1925 at Summersville, Missouri a son of the late Jona Columbus Greig and Ruth Elnora (Dillon) Greig. He entered eternal rest Monday, October 24, 2005, at his home in Steelville after a short battle with cancer at the age of 80 years, 3 months and 17 days. Jona and his family lived in Summersville, Missouri where they were merchants, opening their first store in 1917. They moved to Steelville in 1942 where they become owners and operators of a small grocery franchise known as "Greigs on the Four Corners." Jona graduated from Steelville High School in 1944. He had a love for music, especially that of Scottish origin. As a youth he played the clarinet and violin. In his quiet times of relaxation Jona enjoyed watching O'Riley Factor or the Fox News. He loved to read, one of his favorites being the Washington Times, some of his other loves were Scottish music, model airplanes and 48 Ford Coupe convertibles. Another of his real favorite times of relaxation was a fishing trip, sometimes deep sea fishing in Florida with friends, Ed Schwieder, Cliff Beckham, Don Thompson and Roger Cape. Being a people person, Jona seemingly never met a stranger. In his earlier days he liked to go bowling at Cuba, Missouri and that is where he met the love of his life. On August 5, 1956, at the First Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri, Jona was united in marriage to Nina Anita Goodson, daughter of Roy and Golden Joho of Cuba. Five daughters, Mary Carmaetta, Barbara Ann, Beverly Kay, Carolyn Amelia, and Nancy Suzanne were born to this union. They were blessed with almost 50 years together. Jona and Nina managed the Grocery Store from 1968-1981, selling in 1981. Jona was a charter member of the Lion's Club, member of the Lebanon Lodge No. 77, and a 63-year member of the First Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri where in his earlier years he taught the Beginners Sunday School Class. He was baptized in the Jack's Fork River. In addition to his parents, Jona was preceded in death by one sister Maxine and husband Henry Aiken and brother-in-law Maxwell Weaver. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his loving wife Nina of their home in Steelville, Missouri; five daughters, Mary and husband Sgt. Kenneth Preston of Georgia, Barbara and husband James Little of Alabama, Beverly and husband Dave Sterling, Carolyn and husband Keith Clark and Nancy Huskey all of Steelville, Missouri. An aunt Dollie (Dillon) Kuncel of Salem, Missouri; one sister, Marjorie Weaver of Hillsboro, Illinois. Eleven grandchildren, Amy Elizabeth and husband Brandon Carroll, Kendall and Kimberly Preston Gegg of Georgia, Ben and Douglas Little of Alabama, Lacey Sterling and Cheyenne Bland of Steelville, Missouri, Tina Marie and husband Robert Arndt of Indiana, Lauren Ashley and husband Brad Kreitner of O'Fallon, Missouri. Five great grandchildren, Gabrielle, Elijah, Bryan, Mariah and Emma; nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and many friends. Jona Robert Greig lay in state 3-8 p.m. with Masonic services 7 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2005, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2005, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Kevin Farr officiating. Eulogies were given by Judith Failoni and Thomas Weaver. Musical selections were provided by organist Wanda Ransom and vocalist Karen Henke. Committal prayers and interment were in St. James Cemetery, St. James, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Tom Dillon, Donald Gregory, Lavern Greig, Donald Hale, Norman Hale and Thomas G. Weaver. Honorary pallbearers were Keith Clark, Jack Greig, Bob Webster and Edwin Howald. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Kenneth F. "Frankie" Nixon Kenneth F. "Frankie" Nixon passed away October 25, 2005 at Cuba, Missouri at the age of 45 years. He was born July 5, 1960 at Corning, Arkansas and his hometown was Steelville, Missouri. He was a construction manufacturing laborer by trade. He was married to Patricia Nixon, nee Manley of Steelville. He was the son of Virgil and Ruthie Nixon, nee Wilson, of McDougal, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife, his parents and daughters Rebekah Russell Reed of Adairsville, Georgia; Nancy Nixon, Steelville, Missouri, Amanda Kendra and husband Ricky Smith, of Pevely, Missouri. Sons Timothy and wife Twyla Nixon of Calhoun, Georgia, Travis Nixon of Steelville, Missouri and sister of Brenda Way of Arkansas. His parents Virgil and Ruthie Nixon, brothers, Jonnie Nixon, Potosi, Missouri, Michael Nixon of Dalton, Georgia and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister Donna Futrell and his grandparents Cecil and Bobbie Wilson. Visitation was Friday, October 28, 2005 from 1-8 p.m. at Heiligtag-Lang-Fendler Funeral Home. Rev. Dennis Michael Manley gave the sermon and burial was in the Shepherd Hills Cemetery. Orletta Bower Setzer Orletta Bower was born in Bethel, Missouri on June 30, 1913, the youngest of five children of Edward and Elizabeth Bower. The family moved to Shelbyville, Missouri when Orletta was five years old. Later they moved to Columbia, Missouri. She attended University High School in Columbia, and graduated from the University of Missouri in 1937. It was a matter of great pride to the family that all five children graduated from college, despite the hardships of the depression and at a time when college graduation was uncommon for young women. Orletta Bower taught high school in a rural school district in Missouri until her marriage to Logan Setzer in 1941. Their daughter Florence was born in 1944. The couple lived, in Jefferson City, Missouri; Springfield, Ohio; Old Greenwich, New York and Indianapolis, Indiana before they settled in southern California in 1954. They lived in the Los Angeles area for 38 years. Beginning in 1975 the Setzer's sponsored a family of Vietnamese refugees. Logan and Orletta treated them like part of the family. The relationship still continues. The Setzers moved to Culpeper, Virginia in 1992. Orletta moved to a retirement home in Springfield, Virginia after the death of her husband in 1998. She died on July 28, 2005 at the age of 92. Orletta Setzer was a member of the Knox Presbyterian Church in Inglewood, California, and later of the Culpeper Presbyterian Church in Culpeper, Virginia. At one time she was a Girl Scout leader. For a while she worked as an income tax accountant. Her great love was gardening, and she grew fruits and vegetables and flowers on every available square inch of ground. She loved living in California, where she could grow poinsettias outdoors and have fruits such as kumquats and figs and Japanese persimmons in her yard. Loretta Mae Weber Loretta Mae Humphrey (nee Humphrey) was born Thursday, March 30, 1939 in Steelville, Missouri, a daughter of Tressie E. Humphrey (nee Butt) and the late Luther T. Humphrey. Loretta departed this world and entered her heavenly home on Friday, October 28, 2005 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Alan Beers, Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 66 years, 6 months and 28 days. Those who are left to celebrate her life are her loving mother, Tressie of Steelville; one sister, Jeannie and husband Ray A. Dulany of Highlandville, Missouri and two nephews Joe Dulany and Dan Dulany, their spouses and children all of Nixa, Missouri. Loretta's family includes: son, William Luther "Bill Weber and wife Vicky, of Steelville, Missouri, their children, Crystal, Billy and wife Julie, James and great grandchildren Lane and Abigail; son, John (deceased) and sons Carl Weber of Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Cody Weber of Rolla, Missouri. Daughter, Loretta Dianne Weber of Springfield, Missouri; daughter, Joanne Elizabeth Beers and husband Alan of Steelville, Missouri, and daughters, Jodi and Amy; Son, Robert Marcus "Bobby" Weber and wife Christina of Carrollton, Texas, their children Robert, Marcus, Cassandra and great grandson Nicholas Anthony; and son, Ronald Eugene "Ronny" Weber and wife Lisa of Steelville, Missouri and their children Ryan and Reese. Also remaining are many life-long friends, people that she ministered to at Gibbs Care Center and home health care and all who knew and loved her. She will be missed. In addition to her father, Loretta was preceded in death by one son, Rev. John Franklin Weber (January 15, 1993). Loretta Mae Weber lay in state 3-9 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2005, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 2005 in the First Assembly of God Church, Steelville, Missouri, with Robert Weber and Pastor Jerry Beers officiating. Committal prayers and interment was in Keysville Cemetery, Keysville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were William Weber, Robert Weber, Carl Weber, Marcus Weber, Cody Weber, James Weber, Ryan Weber, Joe Dulany and Dan Dulany. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
