MO Local Obituaries for the Week of November 4, 2020 Vincent Lee Anderson Vincent Lee Anderson of St. James, Missouri was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 31, 1966 to Gary and Linda (Alexander) Anderson and passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at the age of 54 years, 1 month and 25 days. After Vincent graduated from high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He spent nine years in the United States Naval Construction Battalions, better known as the Navy Seabees. He traveled all over the world and spent some time in Kuwait, Turkey and Southeast Asia, returning home after an accident in which he broke his back. He married Wilma Casto on July 10, 1997. Vincent loved to cook and would make wonderful meals for his family and share with others that were homebound or not feeling well. He was a longtime member of the St. James V.F.W. and enjoyed visiting with veterans at the Veterans Home. When he could he would take them fishing. He loved to fish and hunt and was an avid reader. He really enjoyed books about the Military, old westerns and non-fiction. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roscoe and Velma Anderson and William and Doris Josephine Wilson Alexander. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Wilma Anderson of St. James, Missouri; children, Amanda Anderson and Wyatt Anderson of St. James, Missouri; parents, Gary and Linda Anderson of St. James, Missouri; other relatives and friends. John Holton Boldrey John Holton Boldrey of Lee's Summit, Missouri, was born on September 11, 1946 in Maroa, Illinois to Grace M. O'Connor and John W. Boldrey and passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at the age of 74 years. On December 23, 1966 he married Valerie L. Otis in St. James, Missouri. John graduated from Rolla High School in 1965 and went on to Lynn Technical School in Lynn, Missouri and studied drafting. In 1966 he joined the US Navy, served for four years and sailed the world. His ship, the USS Manley, was involved in the TET OFFENSIVE during 1967-1968 off the coast of Vietnam to which he made several brown water missions. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, John started to work for United Telephone Company in 1971 and continued working in the communications field for 31 years. He started as a Lineman climbing poles in Rolla, Missouri and worked his way up to Outside Plant Manager in Maryville, Missouri, Kansas City, Missouri and finally back to Rolla, Missouri where he retired in 2001. He loved the farm in St. James, Missouri and his cattle. He raised Braunvieh cattle and was part of the Missouri Braunvieh Association. During these years, he also headed up a group called "US TOO International" which is an international prostate cancer support group and he helped raise up four grandkids. In 1984 Jesus saved John and led him into ministry to Vietnam Veterans through Pointman Ministries. He traveled to various places sharing Jesus and his Vietnam experience with many veterans. In 1984, he and his family were privileged to go to Washington D.C. for the dedication of the three soldier statue and visit the wall. John's last 10 years were spent in Lee's Summit, Missouri watching more grandkids grow up and raising chickens. He loved deer camp every year with "the boys" and taking camping trips in the RV. John was a member of Abundant Life Church in Lee's Summit, Missouri. He was preceded in death by sisters, Delores Shank and Kathy Staley; brothers, Michael "Mickey" O'Connor and Jerry O'Connor; and several step sisters and step brothers. (Bromberek) Chavez and passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at the age of 55 years, 8 months and 25 days. Tina enjoyed staying home and spending time with her son. Kathryn "Maureen" Godbey Kathryn "Maureen" Godbey (nee Chapman) of Steelville, Missouri, formerly of Cuba, Missouri, was born on Monday, December 25, 1950 in Rolla, Missouri to Virgil and Roberta (Crow) Chapman and passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at the age of 69 years, 10 months and 4 days. Maureen grew up in Cuba, Missouri and attended Cuba schools. She married Carl Leroy Godbey. After Carl passed away she later married James Jefferson Godbey on May 24, 2008 at the ACTs Church in Steelville, Missouri. Maureen worked at Brown Shoe for 27 years as a sole cutter until the factory closed, then went to work at San Val until their closing. Maureen was a member of ACTs Church. She enjoyed going on car rides, watching hummingbirds and deer from her back porch. She liked flowers, fall colors and watching Hallmark movies. She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Roberta Chapman; parents-in-law, Roy and Clella Godbey; first husband, Carl Godbey; second husband, James "Jim" Godbey; brother, John Chapman; and step daughter, Faye Godbey. Mary Ruth Haffer Mary Ruth Haffer (nee Harris) of Cuba, Missouri was born on Friday, March 31, 1939 in Cherryville, Missouri to Emmitt and Eva Missouri (Callahan) Harris and passed on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 29 days. Mary grew up in Cherryville and attended Cherryville School. She married Garland Gene Collier on June 6, 1959 in Cherryville, Missouri. She later married Walter Lavone Haffer on August 30, 2003 at the Cuba Senior Center. Mary worked for Federal Bag in St. Louis, Missouri for 20 years until she retired. After moving to Cuba, Missouri she served over eight years on the Board of Directors of the Cuba Senior Center and volunteered many hours there. Mary enjoyed shopping, going to yard sales and if you ask Walter, spending money. She liked to travel with Walter and they had visited over 30 states. She enjoyed going to the races with him as well. Betty Lou Hazel Betty Lou (nee Ganes) Hazel of Steelville, Missouri was born in Porterville, California to Franklin Guy and Bertha Irene Bascue Ganes and passed away Monday, October 26, 2020 at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 9 days. She married Otis Coon on December 31, 1946 in Porterville, California. Betty owned a construction company, a marina and a Convenience Store in Texas for a number of years and also worked as a real estate agent. She loved to sing country music and play her guitar. Betty loved the outdoors and enjoyed her times fishing and deer hunting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Coon; son, Benny Allen Coon; three brothers, Dean Ganes, Donald Lee Ganes and Clyde Ganes; and one sister, Ruby Viola Clem. On February 6, 1956 she married Lindy Lee Holmes in Salem, Missouri. Pat was a longtime member of the Calvary Assembly of God in Rolla, and most recently the First Assembly of God in St. James, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lindy Holmes on December 24, 2000; her father, R.J. Light; her mother, Aliene Macormic; step father, Marvin "Bud" Williams; brother, Robert Light; step sister, Rosemary Wercinski; grandson, Daniel Holmes; and great grandson, Matthew Bullock. Thomas Leonard Olsen Thomas Leonard Olsen of Rolla, Missouri was born in Vallejo, California on July 20, 1942 to Thomas R. Olsen and Betty (Green) Olsen Wells and passed away Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the age of 78 years. On February 18, 1984 he married Treasa (Dunakey) Olsen. Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Vietnam then served with the National Guard totaling 31 years of service. He was a life member of the VFW and served as commander of both the Rolla and St. James, Missouri Posts for several years. He was also a life member of the American Legion. He enjoyed his employment as a talented auto body repair technician having worked many years for both Ford and Chevrolet dealerships in St. James and Rolla, Missouri. Tom was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Rolla. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Olsen and Betty Olsen Wells; and two sisters, Gale and Sandy. He is survived by his wife, Treasa Olsen of Rolla, Missouri; one sister, Judy Carothers of Boise, Idaho; one grandson, Kenneth Olsen of Colorado; other relatives and friends. Chester Earl Smith Chester Earl Smith of Cuba, Missouri, previously of Drury, Missouri, was born on Monday, December 22, 1941 in Ava, Missouri to Lester Earl and Mable Mae (Nichols) Smith and passed away on Monday, October 19, 2020 at the age of 78 years, 9 months and 27 days. Chester grew up in Douglas County, Missouri and graduated from Dora High School in Dora, Missouri. After graduating, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he served our country honorably for 14 years and fought during the Vietnam War. Chester married Vida Maxine Stout on September 1, 1962 in Miami, Oklahoma. After his time in the military, Chester was a freelance carpenter where he built and remodeled homes. He lived most of his civilian life in Drury, Missouri. He moved to Cuba, Missouri to be near his oldest son, Cotton, for four years before going into the Missouri Veteran Home in St. James, Missouri, where he lived for the last two years. Throughout his lifetime, Chester loved singing and playing his guitars. He loved the outdoors, especially to hunt and fish. When fishing, he would stay until the fish started biting, no matter how long that took he would come home with fish. His family fondly reminisces he had acquired through the years almost as many guitars as he had fishing poles. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Mable Smith; parents-in-law, Virgil and Lela Stout; wife, Vida Smith; sisters, Fern (Lyle) Shannon and Shirley (Gene) Chandler; and brothers-in-law, Maynard Ackerson and Byron (Pearl) Stout.
