Brim of St. James, Missouri was born in St. James, Missouri to Clint and Ruby Brim on March 7, 1935 and passed away October 30, 2013 at the Golden Living Center in St. James, Missouri at the age of 78 years. Kermit was a long time member of the Assembly of God Church. He was kind and well respected by the community of St. James, Missouri. His simplicity of life was something special and for what he was known for. He also loved to stop by local businesses and visit with the proprietors and the employees. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clint and Ruby Brim; brothers, Virgil and Leroy Brim; and a sister, Madlyn Brim. He is survived by brothers, Arthur Brim of Kansas and Hadley Brim of Ironton, Missouri; sister, Agnes Brim of St. James, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Doris Ann Cottrell Doris Ann Cottrell, nee Tinker, of Davisville, Missouri was born August 5, 1946 in Salem, Missouri to Woodrow and Georgia Payne Tinker and passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2013 in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 67 years, 2 months and 24 days. On September 7, 1963 in Waterloo, Illinois, she was united in marriage to Jerry Cottrell and to this union four children were born. Doris attended Boss Assembly of God Church. She owned and operated the Dairy Mart in Viburnum, Missouri for a few years and also owned a ceramic business. She spent many hours quilting, canning and making ceramics. She was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Georgia Tinker; her mother and father in-law, Leland and Emma Cottrell; son, Edward James Cottrell; two brothers, Dwight Tinker and David Tinker; and brothers in-law, Kenneth Cottrell and James Cottrell. Brendan Lawless, was born was born on May 16, 1931 in Portadown, County Armagh, Northern Ireland to Bernard G. and Mary (Jennings) Lawless and passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013, at Mercy Skilled Center in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 82 years. He was a former pastor of Holy Cross Church, Cuba, Missouri and St. Michael’s Church in Steelville, Missouri from Oct. 15, 1969 until June 1977. He attended area Catholic schools, and the founding bishop of Jefferson City Diocese, the late Bishop Joseph Marling CPPS, invited him o study for the priesthood to serve the new Missouri diocese. He completed his philosophy (college) and theology studies at St. Kieran’s Seminary in Kilkenny, Ireland. On June 7, 1964, in the Cathedral of St. Mary in Kilkenny, the l ate Bishop Peter Birch, of Ossory ordained him to the holy priesthood. His first Holy Mass was celebrated in the St. Joseph’s Convent, Kilkenny. Fr. Lawless served for two years as associate pastor of what then was known as Cathedral of St. Peter parish in Jefferson City, Missouri, then as pastor of parishes mostly in the deep northern and southern regions of the diocese. The other parish assignments were at Macon, Bevier, Wien, Hamden, Cuba, Steelville, Pilot Grove, Clear Creek, Owensville, Belle, (1977-1982-2001). Louisiana, Clarksville, St. Robert, Richland, Kahoka, Wayland, St. James and Rosati, (2001-2004). In 2004 he retired in St. Louis, he served as Chaplain for the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Mary Lawless; and two brothers, Brian P. and Tommy C. (Margaret) Lawless of Ireland. The Mass of Christian Burial for a priest was celebrated on October 18, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Church in Owensville, Missouri. The Rev. Michael T. Flanagan presided and preached the homily, with other diocesan priests concelebrating. Rev. Flanagan is the diocesan episcopal vicar for the northern region of the diocese. He is also pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Columbia, Missouri. The diocesan bishop, Bishop John R. Gaydos led the prayers of final commendation and rite of incense at the end of the Mass. He also led the prayers of the rite of committal at the Immaculate Conception parish cemetery, where the burial took place. The words of the bishop included “Fr. On October 23, 1976 she married Steven M. Loughridge. Debbie loved crafts, especially scrapbooking. She loved spoiling her grandchildren most of all. She was employed by Hillcrest Drug for many years. She also owned Timeless Treasure in St. James. She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Norris; four brothers, David, Dale, Donald and Wayne Norris; and one sister, June Edmonds. Daisy was united in marriage to Bud Myers on June 6, 1948 and to this union they were the parents of six children. She loved watching her favorite TV shows, “The Walton’s” and “The Golden Girls”, coloring and playing dominos. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Sara Kitchen husband, Bud Myers on December 23, 1991; daughter, Linda Hanson; brother, Homer Kitchen; sisters, Ella Pemberton, Opal Rainey and Norma Denson. He had lived in Steelville and Poplar Bluff, Missouri before moving to Lebanon 13 years ago. He had worked at Brown Shoe Company and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. On February 17, 1989, he was married to Edna Stinnett in Steelville, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his wife on February 5, 2000; and a brother, Curtis Richter. Althoff Rogers of Rolla, Missouri was born August 9, 1938, in McGirk, Missouri to Glen E. and Mavin (McGranahan) Althoff Pickerill and passed away Monday, October 28, 2013, at the age of 75 years. Mary graduated from Windsor High School in Windsor, Missouri and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri. Mary was a high school home economics teacher at Lincoln, Missouri where she met and later married Duane Rogers on May 31, 1964. After moving to Rolla Mary worked as a substitute teacher, seamstress and later a caseworker for Division of Social Services for the State of Missouri. She enjoyed traveling and watching her grandchildren participate in a variety of activities. She was preceded in death by her husband, on April 27, 2009; parents, Glen and Mavin; step-father, James Clayton Pickerill; sister, Carol Sue Parr; and brother, David Edward Althoff (fondly called Buck). Ken, as he was known by his family and friends, moved to Michigan and on July 1, 1961 he was united in marriage to Joyce Web at Ypsilanti, Michigan.  They lived in this area until 1988 when Ken moved his family to Missouri.   Ken was employed with the Sealed Power Corporation and its later acquisitions for 21 years as a supervisor with the company. He was later employed with Briggs and Stratton from 2002 until 2007 until ill health caused his retirement.  Ken was known as a hard worker who had a sense of humor.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting and especially sharpening knife for others. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morgan and Massie Speak; one daughter, Judith Brock; two brothers, Lyle “Bud” Speak and Earl Speak; five sisters, Ruth Gulley, Beulah Green, Mary Oaks, Eda Gornenier and Judy Smallwood. William Wensten Spurgeon William Wensten Spurgeon of St. James, Missouri was born in Rosati, Missouri on February 21, 1931 to Lawrence and Suda Louise (Diestelkamp) Spurgeon and passed away on October 27, 2013 at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 7 days. He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Van Dorn for 63 years from the date of their wedding on December 23, 1950. William, known to his wife and family as Wens, had a great sense of humor.  He had a great attitude toward life, even during times of hardship and sickness.   William served his country in the United States Army for 30 years, being stationed overseas several times. He also served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars and received the Bronze Star. He retired at the rank of Sergeant Major, highest NCO rank and then went on to serve as a civilian with the U.S. Army at Fort Leonard Wood. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Suda Louise Spurgeon; and his twin brother, Wendell Spurgeon. Jim was united in marriage on March 14, 1953 at Valdosta, Georgia to Patricia Ruth Doyel and to this union, three children were born. Jim was a member of the First Christian Church in Dixon. During his high school years, he played basketball, baseball and golf and won state records for the high jump and broad jump. Jim retired from Gascosage Electric Company, Dixon, were he had worked as a lineman and foreman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dolph and Thelma Williams.
