Gary spent his life reading his Bible, believing in God and taking care of others. He had been a caretaker for many different properties and always helped his neighbors. He was known for always being the fun uncle, because he loved kids. He enjoyed bird watching, especially hummingbirds, loved animals and being outside. Leean retired after working several years at Walmart in Cuba. She was the President of the Resident Council at Life Care Center in Sullivan. Charles was united in marriage to Sharon Louise Bonar on March 30, 1988 in Castle Rock, Colorado. He served his country in the US Air Force from October 15, 1957 to October 14, 1963. Ruby “Jerry” Lucille Palmer Lewis Ruby “Jerry” Palmer Lewis was born August, 21, 1927 in Rector, Arkansas to William and Estella Sagely Layne and passed away Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan at the age of 85 years, two months and six days. She first married Curtis Palmer on April 13, 1948 and he preceded her in death on October 29, 1990. She then married Eugene Lewis on September 16, 1993 and he preceded her in death on November 8, 2006. Jerry, as she was known by her friends and family, left school at a young age to help her mother in the cotton fields of northeastern Arkansas. As a young teenager she boarded a bus bound for St. Louis, Missouri to work as a live-in babysitter and later as a waitress and cook. She and Curtis were married in 1948 and they lived in several places before settling in the Sullivan/Bourbon area to raise their seven children. Jerry worked for many years as a cook at the Hen House in Bourbon, Missouri. She loved to dance and read. She was an outstanding cook and gardener. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Estella Layne; her husbands, Curtis and Eugene; a daughter, Catherine M. Moss; several brothers and sisters. Lavada attended the Steelville House of Prayer, known as the Cherryville Community Church for the last 13 years. Lavada, her husband “Red” and all of their children would play instruments and sing many a gospel hymn. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and baking for all of her family. Brenda married David W. Medlock on March 11, 1966 in Salem, Missouri and to this union three children were born. Brenda completed her Associates Degree in Education and was a substitute teacher for several years at Steelville Public Schools. She enjoyed feeding hummingbirds, gardening, quilting, nature walks and attending car shows with David. She was a member of Straightway Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri. Homer was worked for the General Cable Company for 42 years before retiring. He was a big sports fan, he enjoyed football, car racing and Cardinal baseball. He enjoyed going to the casino and spending time with family and friends. William “Bill” Potts William “Bill” Potts of rural St. James, Missouri was born on March 17, 1947 to Floyd “Bud” and Jessie Helen (Dittman) Potts in High Gate, Missouri and passed away at his home on October 27, 2012 at the age of 65 years, 7 months, and 10 days. Bill was united in marriage to Jannet M. Dahl on December 28, 1968 in the High Gate Baptist Church in rural St. James, Missouri. Bill graduated from Belle High School and then entered into military service. After the military he married the love of his life, Jannet M (Dahl) Potts. He moved to St. Louis, Missouri for a short time and moved back home to High Gate. Bill installed hardwood flooring for thousands of home all around Missouri. But his love was his family especially a granddaughter named Sierra.  Where you saw Sierra you saw Bill, they were always together on an adventure. Bill raised hogs and cattle and enjoyed woodworking, making, cutting boards and even built a unique cat condo. Bill loved the Lord and was a member of the High Gate Baptist Church. He was preceded in dath by his father, Floyd “Bud” Potts in September 1989. He is survived by his wife of the home, Jannet M. Bessie Reynolds Bessie Reynolds of St. James, Missouri born December 1, 1926 in Phelps County to Henry and Anna (Mathena) Norris and passed away November 1, 2012 at the Rolla Manor Care Center in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 85 years and 11 months. Bessie Norris was united in marriage to Ray Reynolds on May 24, 1947 and to this union four children were born. Bessie was a member of the First Church of God in St. James, Missouri. She enjoyed crafting of any kind, sewing and her beautiful flower garden. She was a wonderful cook and loved to cook for gatherings of family and friends. Until her illness Bessie was the “caretaker” of the family, devoting much of her time and energy to taking care of the family, and the big role of the “official spoiler” of the grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna Norris; two sons, Ray Reynolds Jr. and Robert Reynolds; brother, Clarence Norris. Dorothy Perle Rogers Dorothy Perle Rogers, was born June 5, 1923 in St. Louis, Missouri to Arthur and Ruth (Vaughn) Talbert and passed away on Monday, October 1, 2012 at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 26 days. On June 13, 1942, she married Duell Rogers. The Talberts lived in St. Louis County where Perle attended three years of grade school until the depression of 1932 when they moved to Cook Station. She concluded her grade school years at Benton Creek and attended Cherryville High School where she graduated as valedictorian class of 1940. She attended one year at Missouri Business School and worked as a bookkeeper and secretary in St. Louis for several years. During the war, Perle worked as one of the first butcherettes in St. Louis and belonged to the AMCU. Perle loved the farm and attending family get-togethers. She and her mom pieced quilts and helped each other with the canning and the children. She worked as secretary and bookkeeper at Fordell Development Charcoal Company. Perle owned and operated Rogers Fashion Shop in Steelville from 1965 to 1979 and also Rogers Fashion Shop in Salem, Missouri. Duell began Rogers Post & Lumber Company in 1973 and Perle did the bookwork for this business. Later, she worked for her daughter at Sherry’s Floral & Gift Shoppe in Steelville until she retired. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duell; her parents, Ruth and Arthur Talbert; sister, Lucille Beryl Talbert; brother, Arthur Joseph Talbert; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Omer and Lois Rogers; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jack and Virginia Rogers, Pat Talbert and Mary Anne Talbert. Steven Sullivan Steven Sullivan of St. James, Missouri was born on July 1, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri to Robert and Mildred (Muhlhauser) Sullivan and passed away Monday, October 29, 2012 at his home at the age of 57 years. Steven proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Sullivan, and to this union a son was born. Although they later divorced Steven and Elizabeth remained good friends. Steven was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to be at the river canoeing, hunting arrowheads, fishing and spending time with family and friends. Steven had the amazing ability to make a friend everywhere he went and was always able to bring a smile and share his sense of happiness with everyone around him. He was a very gifted and talented artist and he shared that passion with his son. Steven was lovingly cared for before and during his illness by his partner Mary McMurry and his beloved Jack Russell Terrier “Apache.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mildred Sullivan; and by his paternal and maternal grandparents. Wilbur Jewell Vaughn Wilbur Jewell Vaughn was born on Monday, July 15, 1929 in Cuba, Missouri to Henry B. and Myrtle Roberts Vaughn and passed away in St. Louis, Missouri on Monday, October 29, 2012 at the age of 83 years. Wilbur served honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a corporal. He was a military policeman and worked in the Criminal Investigation Division. He married Imogene Dugan on December 31, 1949 in Steelville, Missouri and to this union four children were born. Wilbur had several career opportunities during his adult life. He managed movie theatres in several states for 18 years. He was a construction worker for the Peabody Mines. At one time, he worked for the MO Conservation in Willow Springs, Missouri as a watchman in the fire tower. He also, was known for his photography and famous for the mural on the Cuba Free Press building featuring the picture he took of the actress Betty Davis. He was a member of the Cuba First Baptist Church. He was preceded by his parents, Henry and Myrtle Vaughn; son, Bryan Vaughn; brothers, Everette, Earl, Floyd, Noel, Lloyd and Elmer Vaughn and sister, Mae Vaughn. He is survived by his wife, Imogene Dugan Vaughn of Cuba, Missouri; children, Julie Ann (David) Darmon of Ballwin, Missouri, Roger (Margarete) Vaughn of Owensville, Missouri and Charlene (Conrad) Percival of Rosebud, Missouri; brother, Charles (Helen) Vaughn of Cuba, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Carol (Stanley) Berry of Springfield, Missouri and Eileen Vaughn of California, Missouri; grandchildren, David (Andrea) Darmon, Jr. of Wildwood, Missouri, Ginger (Kasey) O’Hara of Fenton, Missouri, Joe Darmon of Ballwin, Missouri, and Tina (Patrick) Heidbrink of Owensville, Missouri; great grandsons, Braden Michael Darmon and Reid Patrick Darmon of Wildwood, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Visitation was Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. and Funeral Service on Friday November 2 at 11 a.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri with Rev. Bob Knight officiating.
