Martha Julie Brummett
Martha Julie Brummett was born Tuesday, November 24, 1903, at Cherryville,
Missouri, a daughter of the late Amos Cassidy and Amanda Cassidy (nee
Oliver). She entered eternal rest Saturday, October 27, 2001, in the
Pacific Care Center, Pacific, Missouri, at the age of 97 years, 11 months
and three days.
On April 27, 1927, at Goodland, Missouri, Martha was united in marriage to
Kelias Brummett. Four sons and three daughters were born to this union.
Kelias preceded her in death as did two sons, Leon Brummett and Danny
Brummett, one daughter, Helen Skaggs (nee Brummett); one daughter-in-law,
Virginia Brummett; one brother, Frank Cassidy and four sisters, Bessie and
husband John Mayfield, Dollie Cassidy, Mary Cassidy, Nellie and husband
Jess Nelson; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are two sons, Bill Brummett of
Pacific, Missouri, Don Brummett and wife Pat of Villa Ridge, Missouri; two
daughters, Opal and husband Jim Turnbough and Goldie Ball all of Fenton,
Missouri; daughter-in-law Helen (Leon) Brummett of St. Louis, Missouri;
son-in-law, Fred Skaggs of Afton, Missouri; eight grandchildren; 13 great
grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins,
other relatives and friends.
Martha loved her family. In her younger days her greatest pleasure was
having her kids, grandkids and great grandkids at her home every weekend
and cooking big meals for them.
She loved to read, especially her bible. She was a member of Christy United
Methodist Church in St. Louis and attended when she was able. She will be
fondly remembered and sadly missed.
Martha Julie Brummett lay in state 4-8 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2001 at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were
held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2001 in the Britton Chapel with Rev.
Elmer Turnbough officiating.
Committal prayers and interment were in Ottery Creek Cemetery, Banner,
Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Gregory A. Brummett, Michael G.
Brummett, Dick Keith, Mark W. Nelson, David Scott and Keith A. Wahlig.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Missouri.
Lorraine Evelyn McIntosh
Lorraine Evelyn (nee Prince) McIntosh of Florissant, Mo. passed away on
Thursday, October 18, 2001 at Wright City, Mo. at the home of her niece
Arneita Williams.
She had suffered a short time with asthma, emphysema, and heart problems.
Lorraine entered DePaul Hospital on September 28, 2001 with double
pneumonia.
After being released from hospital on Oct. 10, 2001 she went to stay with
Arneita at her home in Wright City, Mo.
Lorraine was born March 19, 1922 and was the youngest child of Tom and
Sarah Prince (nee Setzer) at Dillard, Mo.
In St. Louis, Mo. on August 14, 1943 she and Wayne McIntosh were united in
marriage. Wayne passed away on June 22, 2000 ending 57 years of love and
companionship.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, father and
mother-in-law Tom and Flossie McIntosh. Also preceding her in death were
six brothers and two sisters-in-laws, two sisters and brother-in-law,
Virgil and Nell Prince, Irel and Mary Prince, Tommy Prince, Carl Prince,
Leslie Prince, Bernard Prince, Faye and Alfred Thomas, and Lavern Dingmann.
Three half brothers and one half sister, Oscar and Lockie Prince, Edward
and Kathleen Prince, Alfred and Emma Prince and Bertie Roberson and one
step-sister-in-law Doris Streicker.
She leaves to mourn her passing three sisters-in-law, Lula Prince
Twenhoefel of Cuba, Mo., Zelda Prince, Linn, Mo. and Lola Mae Prince Garten
of Omaha, Nebraska.
One step-sister-in-law Mary Lee Moll and husband Bill of St. Louis, Mo., a
foster niece Jean Evans Oth and husband Bob of Florissant, Mo., many nieces
and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Lorraine came to the St. Louis area as a young girl and started working in
factories. In 1942 she worked at the Green Parrott Restaurant as a
waitress.
In 1943 she went to work at St. Louis Independent Packing Co. in the slice
bacon department, then to city order desk as a telephone order clerk until
the plant closed in June, 1969. It then moved to East St. Louis, Illinois
at National Stock Yards. Until her retirement in 1984 she worked at smaller
meat and poultry companies.
Funeral services were held at Hutchens Mortuary, 675 Graham Road,
Florissant, Mo. at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2001. Interment at St.
Charles Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Those honoring her as casketbearers were Steve Williams, Glenn Prince, Joey
Williams, Danny DeRoy, Kevin Baclesse, James Wolfe and standing honorary
were Artie Baclesse and Jason Wolfe.
Officiating at the service was Rev. Ted Burden of First Baptist Church of
O'Fallon, Mo.
Harold C. Mercer
Harold C. Mercer of Sullivan, Mo. passed away on Monday, October 29, 2001
at the age of 85 years.
Mr. Mercer was born on May 19, 1916 at Anthonies Mill, Mo. near Bourbon to
Francis and Elsie (Paul) Mercer. He was raised in the Sullivan area and
honorably served his country with the U.S. Army during W.W. II. Mr. Mercer
was a heavy equipment operator for a time and later became Superintendent
of Streets for the City of Valley Park. He retired from there after serving
20 years. On February 2, 1956 he was married to Dorothy J. McGraw. She
preceded him in death in 1997. Early in life he enjoyed hunting and
fishing, but his real pleasure was traveling. Harold was saved and baptized
at New Testament Baptist Church where he was a faithful member until ill
health caused him to become a resident at the Missouri Veterans Home at St.
James, Mo.
He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Carol Mercer of
Sullivan, nieces, other relatives, and friends. Two sisters, Edith and
Beatrice Mercer, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2001
from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Mo. with Pastor
Charles Idleman officiating. Interment was in Oddfellows Memorial Cemetery,
Sullivan, Mo.
Melrose M. Stevens
Melrose M. Stevens nee Manthie of Bourbon, Mo. was born on April 21, 1916
at Bourbon, Mo. to the union of Arthur Manthie and Celia Mae (Adams)
Manthie and passed away suddenly on October 29, 2001 at the Barnes-Jewish
Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. at the age of 85 years, 6 months and 8 days.
On July 23, 1936 Melrose was united in marriage to John C. Stevens. One
son, Richard, and four daughters, Gloria, Helen, Emma and Trudy, were born
to this union. They were happily married until John preceded her in death
on September 24, 1995.
Melrose was also preceded in death by her parents.
She had lived most of her life in Crawford County. She was a devoted member
of the First United Methodist Church of Bourbon, Mo. and a member of the
Stringtown Home Economics Club.
Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her loving son
Richard Stevens and wife Donna; four daughters, Gloria Rector and husband
Vernon, Helen Reed, Emma Tucker and husband Don and Trudy Reed and husband
Don; one sister, Alama L. Jones; seventeen grandchildren; thirty
great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters and
brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Melrose was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,
great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, good friend to all
who knew her and will be sadly missed.
Melrose M. Stevens nee Manthie was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of
Cuba, Mo. on Wednesday, October 31, 2001 after 5 p.m. She was also in state
at the Bourbon First Methodist Church of Bourbon, Mo. on Thursday, November
1, 2001 after 11 a.m. Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 1,
2001 at 1 p.m. at the Bourbon First Methodist Church of Bourbon, Mo. with
Rev. Connie Gallagher officiating. Interment was in the Delhi Cemetery,
Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral
Home of Cuba, Mo. Memorials to the Bourbon First Methodist Church of
Bourbon, Mo.
James M. Witt
James M. Witt of Union, Mo., formerly of Sullivan, Mo., passed away on
Sunday, October 28, 2001 at the age of 68 years.
Mr. Witt was born on June 18, 1933 in Northcutt, Mo. to the late Richard
McKinley and Mary Agnes (Hayes) Witt. At a young age, he moved with his
family to the Sullivan area. During his adult years, James worked as a
custodian for the Sullivan C-2 School District. He also was employed by the
Graham Sawmill, and performed various other odd jobs. He enjoyed gardening
and playing checkers. James will be cherished and remembered as a loving
and tenderhearted man who possessed a good sense of humor and a special
love for his children.
He is survived by two brothers, Charles P. Witt and wife, Miriam, of
Sullivan, and Kenneth R. Witt and wife, Billie, of Stanton, Mo.; three
sisters, Marion Loverich and husband, George, of Union, Geneive (pronounced
Gen-e-vee) Simmons of Sullivan, and Margie Payne and husband, Woodrow, of
Leasburg, Mo.; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Witt was preceded in death by several
brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2001 from
the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Terry King
officiating. Interment was at Crossroads Cemetery in Leasburg.
Emerson Wayne White
Emerson Wayne White was born Monday, December 12, 1938, at Sulpher Springs,
Missouri, a son of the late Emerson Charles White and Lavada Bridgette
White (nee Thebeau). He entered into eternal life Saturday, October 27,
2001, at his home in Bixby, Missouri, at the age of 62 years, 10 months and
15 days.
Wayne was a mining supervisor for the Doe Run Mining Company.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife Judith Margaretta
White (nee Hedrick) of the home in Bixby, Missouri; one son, Jeffery White
and wife Laura of Potosi, Missouri; one daughter, Kathryn Denean Goodson
and husband Lennie Goodson also of Potosi, Missouri; one step-son, James
Edward Winick and wife Tina of Viburnum, Missouri.
One brother, Terry Bryan White, Sr. and wife Muriel of Herculaneum,
Missouri; one sister, Mary Jane Grimm and husband Edward Grimm of Imperial,
Missouri; mother-in-law, Flora Hedrick of Boss, Missouri.
Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Wilma White of Festus, Missouri, Jessie
James Hedrick and wife Sharon of Steelville, Missouri, Frankie James
Hedrick and wife Michelle of Bonne Terre, Missouri, Karen Jean Kanupp of
Bixby, Missouri, Esther Elizabeth "Sis" Chandler of Boss, Missouri.
Four grandchildren, Jeffrey Ryan White, Dylan Wayne White, Nicole Dianne
Goodson and Tiny Winich; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and
friends.
In addition to his parents Wayne was preceded in death by one brother,
Lamoin White.
Emerson Wayne White lay in state 6-9 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2001, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were
held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2001 at the Boss Assembly of God
Church, Boss, Missouri with Rev. John Miller officiating, assisting were
Rev. Paul Pryor and Paul Davis. Musical selections were provided by Tonya
Griffin, Jesse and Sharon Hedrick.
Committal prayers and interment were in Boss Cemetery, Boss, Missouri.
Serving as pallbearers were Hagon Barton, Nick Hedrick, Chris Knupp, Brian
McPhearson, Robert Dale Ware and Michael Weston. Honorary pallbearers were
Nicole Goodson, Garret Kennedy, Dylan White and Jr. White.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Brothers Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri.
