Joda Carrico
Joda M. “Joe” Carrico of Bourbon, Missouri was born on March 9, 1936 at
Wild Cherry, Arkansas to Austin and Tressie (Sanders) Carrico and passed
away Friday, October 28, 2011 at the age of 75 years.
He lived early life in Wild Cherry, Arkansas before moving to Rockford,
Illinois. He honorably served his country in the US Army from 1955-1958.
In 1959, he married Rosalie Johnson and they made their home in Rockford,
Illinois and to this union three boys were born.
In 1967, they moved to the Sullivan/Bourbon area and Joe worked at Pea
Ridge Mine until it closed. After the mine closed, he went to school at
ITT in St. Louis, Missouri. He then went to work at Paramount Cap
in maintenance and retired from there.
Joe loved his kids and grandkids first of all, and together with Rosalie
took the boys camping many weekends. He also enjoyed his garden, tending
the flowers and working in his yard.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie Carrico of Bourbon, Missouri; three
sons, Danny Carrico and wife Carolyn of Bourbon, Missouri, Ronnie Carrico
and wife Alba of Bourbon, Missouri and Bobby Carrico of Sullivan, Missouri;
one brother, Lee Von Carrico of Bakersfield, Missouri; two half brothers,
Donny Carrico and wife Jackie of Texas and Bill Carrico and wife Pat of
West Plains, Missouri; one sister, Oleta Mae Bunton of Bourbon, Missouri;
five grandchildren, Rachael Bowling, Leanne Weidener and husband, Ben,
Erika, Tylor and Austin Carrico; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, at the Eaton Funeral Home in
Sullivan, Missouri with an Eagles Memorial service at 7 p.m. Alternative
Hospice Chaplain, Alan Amos officiated the funeral service.
Funeral services were conducted 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2011
from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri with
interment and full military honors at the Hill Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan,
Missouri.
Donald Ray Harmon
Donald Ray Harmon of Steelville, Missouri was born January 25, 1947 to
Clark and Mary (Privett) in Salem, Missouri and passed away November 5, 2011
at his home in Steelville, Missouri at the age of 64 years, 9 months and
11 days.
Don served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968.
He was united in marriage to Jane E. Crocker July 24, 1976 in Viburnum,
Missouri.
Don worked at Chrysler from September 1976 to July 2007 when he retired.
He enjoyed gardening, serving in his church where he was a Deacon and Royal
Rangers leader, volunteering at the food pantry, loved the outdoors and
walking trails.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Vicki Stubbs; father-in-law, Robert
Lee Crocker and brother-in-law, Joseph Crocker.
He is survived by his wife Jane of the home; four sons, Robert Harmon and
wife Erin of Steelville, Missouri, Donald Harmon and wife Susie of Bourbon,
Missouri, Clark Harmon of Steelville, Missouri and Mark Harmon of Cuba,
Missouri; three grandchildren, Shantel, Dalton and Cole; parents, Clark
and Mary Harmon of Salem, Missouri; mother-in-law, Jessie Crocker of
Viburnum, Missouri; brothers and sisters, Meredith Sapaugh and husband
Eldon of Salem, Missouri, Pat Brand and husband Earl and Steve Harmon and
wife Martha, all of Steelville and Jeff Harmon of Humansville, Missouri;
brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Goldie Parrett and husband Roger, Jim
Crocker, David Crocker and wife Becky all of Steelville, Missouri, Deloris
Stricklin and husband Eddie of Cherryville, Missouri, Orville Crocker and
Steve Crocker and wife Sharon of Viburnum, Missouri, and Russell Crocker and
wife Valerie of St. James, Missouri; honorary children, Gabe and Jen Parrett,
Brian, April, Canaan and Raelyn Greer, Alex and Spencer Parkinson, Gracie
Hinson and daughter Phoebe and grandniece Hayleigh Parrett; other relatives
and friends. Visitation was held from 5-9 p.m. on Monday, November 7, 2011
at the Steelville First Assembly of God Church and from noon until service
time on Tuesday, November 8, 2011.
A Celebration of Life Service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday,
November 8, 2011 at the Steelville First Assembly of God Church with
Rev. Jerry Beers and Rev. Matthew Lee officiating. Special music of
“Peace in the Valley” and “Blessed Assurance” was sung and led by April
Greer, Matt Lee and Shelly Beers and accompanied on piano by Sharon
Hardecke. “Thank You For giving to the Lord” was sung by Matt Lee.
Other music of “Amazing Grace” was sung by Raelyn Greer.
Committal prayer and interment were in the Pleasant Point Cemetery at
Steelville, Missouri.
Casket bearers were Donald Harmon, Robert Harmon, Clark Harmon, Andy
Stubbs, Stephen Sapaugh and Steven Harmon.

Steelville, Missouri.
Helen Fern Kalinowski
Helen Fern Kalinowski of St. James, Missouri was born on September 23, 1928
in Vichy, Missouri to William and Daisy Josephine (James) Griffith and
passed away on November 1, 2011, at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center
in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 83 years, 1 month and 9 days.
She was united in marriage to Joseph Kalinowski. He preceded Helen in
death.
Helen was a factory worker for 33 years at Carter Carburetor in
St. Louis, Missouri.
She is survived by granddaughter, Virginia Gropp of Colorado; other
relatives and friends.
Graveside services were conducted 11 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2011 at
the Reedville Cemetery in Sullivan, Missouri with Susan Hoyle officiating.
Burial in the Reedville Cemetery in Sullivan, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Jones Funeral Home in
St. James, Missouri.
Donald Wayne Lindsey
Donald Wayne Lindsey of St. James was born on July 21, 1930 in Desloge,
Missouri to Jewell C. and Blance Ruby (Downs) Lindsey and passed away on
Friday, October 28, 2011 at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 7 days.
Donnie was placed in foster care as a young child during the depression and
was raised by Creth and Eva Mitchum who resided in St. James, Missouri.
Donnie was a U.S. Navy veteran and made his career as a school teacher
from which he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jewell and Blance Ruby Lindsey;
brothers, Steve, Francis, Ralph, and Jean Lindsey; an infant sister, Ruby
and half-sister, Joanne Bloom.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Lindsey of St. James, Missouri;
step-mother, Ann Townsend; five half-sisters; four half-brothers; other
relatives and friends.
Memorial service was at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2011 with
Jerry Baumann officiating with Stephen Brubaker the vocalist.
Military honors were held after the service at the Jones Funeral Home
in St. James, Missouri. Arrangements under the direction of the Jones Funeral
Home in St. James, Missouri.
Jennie Christine Martens
Jennie Christine Martens of Rolla, Missouri was born in Rolla, Missouri
on December 3, 1969 to Claude “Bill” and Pearl (Huskey) Southard and passed
away Friday, October 21, 2011 at the age of 41 years.
On September 23, 2001 she married Robert Martens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Pearl Southard; one
brother, Clyde Southard and sister-in-law, Anna Southard.
She is survived by her husband, Robert of the home; two children, Derek
Norris of Cuba, Missouri and Ciarra Martens of the home; three brothers,
Craig Southard and wife Connie of St. James, Missouri, Rodney Southard and
wife Lisa of Rolla, Missouri and Richard Southard and wife Christina of
St. Charles, Missouri; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gerald and Kathy
Martens of Vichy, Missouri; brother-in-law, Dwayne Martens and wife Sheila
of New Haven, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the Null
and Son Funeral Home in Rolla, Missouri.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the Null
and Son Funeral Home in Rolla, Missouri with Pastor Gerald Wittmaier
officiating.
Interment followed in the Macedonia Cemetery.

Rolla, Missouri.
James “Jim” L. Martin
James “Jim” L. Martin of Steelville, Missouri was born January 5, 1939
in Westover, Missouri to Robert “Dick” and Frona Trask Martin and passed
away Thursday, November 3, 2011 at his home at the age of 72 years.
On August 4, 1957 in Salem, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Betty
Harris.
Jim was a member of Midland Pentecostal Assembly Church and a member of
the Auto Workers Union. He worked for General Motors for 30+ years and
retired in 1990. He always enjoyed hunting, fishing and making molasses and
later maple syrup. For the last 10 years, Jim and Betty sold produce in
Steelville, where he always enjoyed visiting with the ones who stopped by.
He helped mow and take care of the Trask Cemetery and served as chairman for
the Martin-Trask Cemetery. He served on the Planning and Zoning Committee
and the Fire Station Board of Steelville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Frona Martin; father
and mother-in-law, Tommy and Bessie Harris; grandson Jason Martin; brother
Cecil Martin; sister Anna Mae White; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law
Mildred Turnbough and husband Cletis, Gilbert Davis, Vencil Cottrell,
Violet Hewkin, Bill Harris, Everett White and Jim Burrus.
He is survived by by his wife of 54 years, Betty of Steelville, Missouri;
sons, Randy Martin and wife Anna of Cherryville, Missouri, Keith Martin and
wife Cathy and Tony Martin and wife Laura, all of Steelville, Missouri;
daughter Susan Britton and husband Jim of Steelville, Missouri; brothers,
Henry Martin and wife Bonnie of Davisville, Missouri and Albert Martin and
wife Lorene of Steelville, Missouri; sisters Roberta White and Mabel Volner,
both of Steelville, Missouri; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Flo Martin
and Bonnie Barton of Cherryville, Missouri, Ina Davis of Steelville,
Missouri, Alline Cottrell of Sullivan, Missouri, Herman Hewkin of Davisville,
Missouri and Tom Harris and wife Elma of Viburnum, Missouri; grandchildren,
Tommy, Lance, Michelle, Kevin, Kayla, Kyle, Jamie and husband Matt, Alyssa,
Jessica and Shannon; great grandchildren Brianna, Zackary and Jesse; step
granddaughters, Rebecca, Danielle and Carrie; step great granddaughter,
Brooklyn; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, November 4, 2011 at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at
the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Jimmy
Dunn officiating. Special music of “What a Day That Will Be,” “Wait Till
You See My Brand New Home” and “I Want to Stroll over Heaven with you” was
sung by Don Turnbough, Perry Barton, Glenda Green, and Jeanie Dumler and
accompanied on piano by Bonnie Barton.
Committal prayer and Interment were in the Martin-Trask Cemetery at
Cherryville, Missouri.
Casket bearers were grandchildren, Tommy Martin, Kevin Martin, Jamie
Walker, Lance Martin, Jessica Martin and Kyle Martin. Arrangements under the
direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of
Steelville, Missouri.
Mary E. Payne
Mary E. Payne of Sullivan, Missouri was born on November 29, 1923 near
Sullivan, Missouri at what was then Meramec to Claud and Daisy (Dill)
Crockett and passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the Meramec
Nursing Center, Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 87 years.
She was raised in this area and later graduated from Sullivan High School.
She was united in marriage to Lester W. Payne on September 18, 1943 and to
this marriage seven children were born.
They lived in California for a time and later moved back to the Sullivan
area in 1965. Mary was baptized and became a member of Evergreen Baptist
Church and later in life attended Reedville Baptist Church. She enjoyed
sewing and embroidering and made several quilts doing the quilting all by
hand. Mary was a true lover of animals and believed in the sanctity of life
for all creatures. She also enjoyed Bingo and “going to the boats,” and
especially singing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Claud nd Daisy Crockett; husband,
Lester; a grandson, Dion Payne and a brother, Claud Crockett.
She is survived by three sons, Jim Payne of Cuba, Missouri, John Payne and
life partner Susan of the state of California, and Jahn Payne and wife
Daisy of Bourbon, Missouri; four daughters, Linda Gatch and husband Adam
of Salem, Oregon, Sue Lahmann and husband Daxton of Bourbon, Missouri,
Mary Jane Stout and husband Mike of Cuba, Missouri and Virginia “Boody”
Forrester and husband Dennis of Sullivan, Missouri; one sister Jo
Schuenemeyer of Union, Missouri; 17 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren;
one aunt, Alona Sohn; other relatives and friends.
It was the desire of Mary to be cremated and memorial funeral services
were conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 5, 2011 from the Trinity
Chapel, Leasburg, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan,
Missouri.
Francis “Scotty” Eugene Scott
Francis “Scotty” Eugene Scott, of Steelville, Missouri was born
August 20, 1933 in Oran, Missouri to John Henry and Freda Loraine Hall
Scott and passed away Friday, October 28, 2011 at the Phelps County
Regional Hospital in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 78 years.
On July 31, 1954 in St. Ann, Missouri, he was united in marriage to
Catherine Stoops.
“Scotty” served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean
Conflict. He worked for 30 years at McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in
St. Louis and retired in 1988. He attended St. Michael’s Catholic Church
and was a member of the V.F.W. Post 7147 of Cuba and a long time member
of the Anglers of Missouri.
He helped for several years in the Boy Scouts in St. Louis and enjoyed
building sets for his daughter, Deborah while she was in dance. “Scotty”
also enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Freda Scott; his wife,
Catherine on June 27, 2009; an infant son; and infant daughter and two
brothers, Richard Joseph Scott and William Michael Scott.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Loraine Tucker and husband James
of Castle Rock, Colorado; two granddaughters, Katie Barrows and husband
Matt of Broomfield, Colorado and Kristy Compiseno of Steelville, Missouri;
three great grandchildren, Jonathan, Lilly and Emily Freeman, all of
Steelville, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, October 31, 2011 at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri. Funeral rites
were conducted by the V.F.W. Cuba Post 7147 at 7 p.m.
Graveside services with full military honors were held at 1 p.m. on
Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery
in St. Louis, Missouri. Arrangements under the direction of the Britton-
Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, Missouri.
Marjorie Agnes Spurgeon
Marjorie Agnes Spurgeon was born on October 17, 1920 in Meta, Missouri to
Rainey and Thelma (Crum) Ricker and passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2011
at the Golden Living Center–St. James in St. James, Missouri at the age
of 91 years and 15 days.
She was united in marriage to James Anderson Spurgeon on March 30, 1941 in
High Gate, Missouri.
Marjorie Spurgeon was a librarian for 15 years. She enjoyed gardening,
genealogy, cooking her church and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rainey and Thelma Ricker; her
husband, James Anderson Spurgeon on December 9, 2001; two sons-in-law, Al
Mannino and John Tegeler and one sister, Jean (Dickson) Barnhart.
She is survived by three daughters, Thelma Jean Mannino of Scottsdale,
Arizona, Eldora Ruth Waring of Overland Park, Kansas and Mary Ann Tegeler of
St. Louis, Missouri; one brother-in-law, Homer Barnhart of Jefferson City,
Missouri; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren other relatives and
friends.
Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the
Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.
Private graveside services were conducted Sunday, November 6, 2011 with
Douglas Lane officiating. Arrangements under the direction of the Jones
Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.
Robert Leon Yount
Robert Leon Yount was born in Desloge on December 23, 1939 to Everett and
Lizzy (Martin) Yount and passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Parkland
Health Center at the age of 81 years.
He grew up in Leadwood where he graduated from Leadwood High School in 1948.
He loved all sports and played baseball with the St. Louis Browns in the
Kitty League. When he returned home to work for St. Joe Lead Co.
He married Mary Lois Van Lear in November 1949.
He played one more year in the Kitty League and then returned to Leadwood
where they spent 61 years and 11 months happily raising their family and
enjoying their friends. Bob was a member of the Leadwood United Methodist
Church and remained active in Little League Baseball, coaching for years.
He also worked as a coach to train young boys (4-6 graders) to play
basketball.
Bob retired from St. Joe Lead in 1984, and soon thereafter, managed The
Bank of the Leadbelt, until retiring in 1991. He was given the honor of
being selected to referee the State Class Championship games played at Kiel
Auditorium on two different occasions.
Bob served on MAC College Board from 1969 through 1975, and served on
the Leadwood Cemetery Board, as the Secretary/Treasurer for 50 years, and
was a board member for Bank of the Leadbelt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Lizzy Yount; brother,
Delmon Yount; sister in-law, Myra Yount and a nephew, Steve Yount.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; two children, Robert Van (Van) Yount of
Desloge, Missouri and Patti Lizabeth Sullivan and husband Stan of
Steelville, Missouri; two brothers, John Yount of Presbyterian Manor,
Donald Yount and wife Mildred of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; four grandchildren,
Kelly Gentry of Desloge, Nathan Yount and wife Brittney of Arnold, Erin
Christianson and husband Charles, Jennifer Pearse and husband Randy of Little
Rock, Arkansas; four great grandchildren, Mason Miller, Peyton Pearse, Reagan
Pearse, and Erika Christianson, all of Little Rock, Arkansas; sister in-law,
Helen Yount of Fenton, Missouri, brother-in-law, C.E. Van Lear (Bud) and wife
Janet of Buchanan, Michigan; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, on
Friday November 4, 2011 from 5-9 p.m.
The service was held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Chapel in Desloge, on Saturday
November 5, 2011 at 2 p.m. with Padre Bob Payne officiating. Interment
followed at the Leadwood Cemetery.
Arrangements under the direction of the C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home
in Desloge, Missouri.
