MO Local Obituaries for the Week of November 9, 2016 Julia Bisso Julia Bisso of St. James, Missouri (formerly of St. Louis, Missouri) was born June 18, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri to Mihaly and Rose Csala Ladi and passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the age of 95 years, 4 months and 15 days. She married William Charles Bisso Sr. on March 23, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri and to this union five children were born. After raising her family, she worked at Dierburg's Grocery store in St. Louis, Missouri for 20 years until her retirement in 1980. A few years after retiring, around 1983, she and her husband moved to the family farm located northeast of St. James, Missouri that had been purchased in 1920 by her husband's grandpa. She was a talented seamstress; she loved quilting and making dolls. She made quilts and dolls for each grandchild and great grandchild. Gardening was also one of her hobbies. She loved growing vegetables in her garden for canning. She often entered her canned goods in the Grape and Fall Festival exhibits. Julia was a first generation American; her parents came to America from Hungary. Her father came over to America in 1907 and her mother came over in 1910. She graduated from the eighth grade. She was unable to attend high school because she needed to work to help support her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Charles Bisso Sr. on January 13, 2008; two sons, William C. Bisso Jr. and Joseph Bisso; three brothers, Steve, Michael and Joseph; and three sisters, Alice Walsh, Rose Roth and Theresa Maties. She is survived by three sons, Robert J. Bisso and wife Brenda of St. Louis, Missouri, Thomas M. Bisso of St. James, Missouri and Kenneth E. Bisso and wife Florence of St. Louis, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Linda Bisso of St. James, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Tina of Fenton, Missouri; seven grandchildren, William, Josh, Joseph, Teree, Jeb, Elaine and Chris; four great grandchildren, William, Edward, Rebecca and Luke; other relatives and friends. Victor Leroy Brant Victor Leroy Brant of St. Clair, Missouri was born November 25, 1924 near Spring Bluff, Missouri to William and Jennie (Holderieth) Brant and passed away Monday, October 31, 2016 at the age of 96 years. He grew up and attended school in Spring Bluff before heading off to St. Louis, Missouri as a young man. Victor met Betty Jane Roster and they were united in marriage at Forest Park on August 3, 1950 and to this union five children were born. After brief time in St. Louis, they moved the family to St. Clair, Missouri where they raised their family. Victor spent most of his working life driving commercial truck. He then spent many years driving bus locally. A highlight for him was hauling the East Central College baseball team to Florida for spring training each spring for many years. In recent years, Victor and Betty enjoyed going to bluegrass music festivals. Victor was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church in Sullivan, Missouri and a member of the American Historical Trucking Society. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Jennie Brant; son, Michael; and sister, Thelma Sedlack. He is survived by his wife, Betty; four sons, Roger Brant and wife Rosemary of Cuba, Missouri, Ron Brant and wife Kay of Greenbrier, Tennessee, Dan Brant and wife Jeannena of St. Clair, Missouri and Mark Brant and wife Donna of St. Clair, Missouri; one daughter, Linda Thurman of St. Clair, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Loren Weaver Legg Loren Weaver Legg of St. James, Missouri was born August 22, 1933 in Wayne City, Illinois to Ernest and Claudine Weaver Legg and passed away Friday, November 4, 2016 at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 13 days. He married Mary Iloine Hoffmeister on May 10, 1958 in Hernando, Mississippi and to this union three children were born. He was married to his wife, Iloine for over 58 years and he helped raise three sons. Along with being a very involved family man, he had time for his many businesses. He was involved in several businesses which included Sinclair Gas Station, L&L Food Market, Kemper Insurance office, L&L Diversified, D&J Country Cooking, plus more. He was also very active in the community. He was also a former St. James City Councilman, a member of the Moose lodge and St. James Jaycees. He was also very active in the St. James Masonic Lodge 230 AF and AM having served as a Past Master of the Lodge. He also drove a school bus for the St. James R-1 school district. He served his country in the United States Army for three years. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Army Occupational Medal (Germany), and Marksman Badge (Carbine). He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Claudine Legg; one brother, Lowell Legg; and four sisters: Bernadine Devore, Verna Rossi, Mary Smith and infant sister. Marie Helen McDole Gormley Marie Helen McDole Gormley (nee Clifton) of Steelville, Missouri was born June 5, 1924 in Menfro, Missouri to Leonidas and Flora Julia Schindler Clifton and passed away Friday, October 28, 2016 at the age of 92 years, 4 months and 23 days. In December of 1947 she was married Howard McDole and after his passing, she married Maurice Gormley in May of 1991. Marie was a member of St. Michael Church. She spent over 45 years in different capacities volunteering her time in helping the Senior Nutrition Program when it was located in the Presbyterian Church and later when a new building was built as Golden Echoes. She always enjoyed traveling and keeping up with the St. Louis Cardinal Baseball Team. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonidas and Floria Clifton; her first husband, Howard McDole and second husband, Maurice Gormley; one step-son, James McDole; three brothers, James Clifton and wife Norma, Bernard Clifton and wife Willie and Fred Clifton and wife Stella; and one sister, Rita Vessell and husband Emil. On November 20, 1943, he was united in marriage to Marjorie "Pat" Haase and five children were born to their union. Ed worked for Lambert's Furniture in St. Louis, Missouri before becoming self-employed building cabinets for many local businesses and homes. He was extremely hard working and took much pride in his work. Ed made his final home in Stanton, Missouri where he enjoyed fishing, traveling and especially loved attending auctions. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Sullivan, Missouri and a retiree of the Carpenter's Union of Missouri. Roland Victor Meiller Jr. Roland Victor Meiller Jr. of Bourbon, Missouri was born December 22, 1936 to Roland Victor Sr. and Marie Theodora Buthe Meiller in St. Louis, Missouri and passed away Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the age of 79 years. He honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1955 to 1959. He was employed by the United States Postal service until retirement. On May 30, 1963 he was united in marriage of Barbara June Byrd and they enjoyed many happy years together. Roland loved gardening and spending time outdoors. Brian Gregory Scott Brian Gregory Scott of Bourbon, Missouri was born April 16, 1973 in Sullivan, Missouri to Michael and Linda (Hurst) Scott and passed away October 16, 2016 at the age of 43 years. He grew up and attended school in Sullivan, Missouri. After finishing school, Brian spent most of his life working as an industrial roofer. Brian and Brandi had been together nearly five years and were recently married in September. In recent years, they became highly active with Freeway Ministries in Springfield, Missouri. They were also very involved with their church, New Life Fellowship in Rolla, Missouri. Charles William Skyles Charles William Skyles of St. James, Missouri was born March 5, 1946 in St. James, Missouri to Frank R. and Marie (Nease) Skyles and passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the age of 70 years. Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1967-1969. He fought in Vietnam with the First Air Cavalry 1967-1968, where he received numerous medals for his service. Charlie cherished his platoon buddies. On August 18, 1978 Charlie married Mary D. Wilson. He was the glue that bound the family together. Charlie loved the outdoors, hunting, walking in nature, kayaking and was an avid fisherman. He was frequently known to email his stringer of his "daily catch" to friends. He also enjoyed music, especially Johnny Cash and his dogs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Marie Skyles; brother, Frank E. William Michael "Mike" Todd William Michael "Mike" Todd was born on July 4, 1960 at Kirkwood, Missouri to Robert Edward and Betty Joyce (nee Bass) Todd and passed away on Monday October 24, 2016 at the age of 56 years. Michael served his country in the United States Navy and was a proud member of the Gas Workers Union 11-6 and worked for Laclede Gas for 26 years until his retirement on August 31, 2015. Michael was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting in his free time. He was also a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan. Grant grew up and attended school in Sullivan. He played on the Championship Eagles Football Team in 1976 that took second at State. After graduating in 1979, Grant went to work on the farm. On September 14, 1996 he married Laura Braughdagam and to this union a son was born. A big part of Grant's life was his participation in tractor-pulling events. He was involved locally as well as many professional competitions nationwide. Grant loved hunting and the outdoors. He was also a gifted welder and could fix or create anything with his torch! Grant will be remembered for being very active in the Bourbon, Missouri community and making it a better place to live. He was preceded in death by his mother, Esther; and sister, Carol Unfress. Devern Doyle Wisdom Devern Doyle Wisdom of Howes Mill, Missouri was born December 28, 1923 in Marcoot, Missouri to Lattie B. and Nellie H. Hogan Wisdom and passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016 at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 6 days. On January 2, 1953 he was united in marriage to Vinita Blake in Mississippi and to this union one son was born. Devern served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946 receiving a Victory Medal and an Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal. He attended Howes Mill Union Church for many years. He was a ceramic tile installer and also farmed all of his life raising hogs and cattle and was a past member of the Missouri Cattlemen's Association. Devern loved having horses and enjoyed the many times he went trail riding. He had many good memories with his neighbors going fox hunting with his hounds. He also enjoyed deer hunting throughout the years. Devern and Vinita spent many years working side by side with the cattle and attending horse shows together. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lattie and Nellie Wisdom; and his wife, Vinita Wisdom.
