MO Local Obituaries for the Week updated November 10, 2006 Jeral Daphyne Gallaher Jeral Daphyne Gallaher was born Tuesday, March 16, 1927 in Viburnum, Missouri, a daughter of Harce Baker and Ida Mae Turnbough Baker. She departed this life Thursday, November 2, 2006 at the Stonecrest Healthcare in Viburnum, Missouri at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 16 days. She was married to Ira Wilmer "Buck" Gallaher on March 10, 1961 in St. Louis, Missouri. To this union one son and one daughter were born. They enjoyed 44 years together before Buck passed away on March 17, 2005. She was of the Assembly of God faith. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Jeral was preceded in death by one brother, Noel Baker; and one sister, Edith Irene Pryor. Those left to mourn her passing are one son, Darren Gallaher and wife Lanette of Caledonia, Missouri; one daughter, Kim Abney and husband Kevin of Viburnum, Missouri; two step daughters, Delores Stacy and husband Lee of St. Peters, Missouri and Nora Boyet and husband Carroll of Warrenton, Missouri; three grandchildren, Ashley, Lauryn and Isaiah; five step grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Winford Pryor; nieces, nephews and other family friends. Funeral services were held Sunday, November 5, 2006 in the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home with Rev. Dwight Barton and Rev. Cletus Nichols officiating. Special music of "Earth's Loss, Heaven's Gain" and "Sleep Mother Sleep" were played. Committal prayers and burial in the Black River Cemetery in Black, Missouri with Winford Pryor, Marty Hedgecoth, Doug Baker, Joe Baker, Bill Baker and Donald Turnbough serving as casket bearers. The family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, Missouri. James Frank Joste Funeral services for James Frank Joste of Elsberry, Missouri were held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 6, 2006 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry. Rev. Paul Garven, pastor of the Elsberry United Methodist Church, officiated with burial in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. Mr. Joste, 78, died early Saturday morning, November 4, 2006 at the Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy, Missouri. Born July 25, 1928 in Cuba, Missouri, he was the son of Blaine and Olla Nichols Joste. He was employed for several years as a lineman for Cuba Telephone Co., which was owned and operated by his parents. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served his country in the U.S. Army from September 4, 1952 until honorably discharged September 3, 1954. Stationed in Korea for 14 months, he was awarded two Bronze Service Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. Following his military service, he returned to his career as a lineman and worked for many years for Continental Telephone Company, retiring in 1976. Mr. Joste was a hunter education safety instructor for five years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Blaine and Olla Joste; one brother, Blaine Joste, Jr.; and one sister, Shirley Earls. Survivors include three sons, Michael "Mike" Joste of O'Fallon, Missouri, Richard "Rick" Joste and his wife, Cathy, of O'Fallon, Missouri and Randall "Randy" Joste and his wife, Julie, of Wentzville, Missouri; one daughter, Cheryl "Cheri" House and her husband, Donis, of Elsberry, Missouri; and 12 grandchildren. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until time of the service at 11 a.m. at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home in Elsberry, Missouri. Pansy Bernice Scott Pansy Bernice Scott (nee Taff) was born Saturday, August 30, 1919 in Wesco, Missouri, the daughter of the late Lucinda (Turner) and Charles Taff. She departed this life on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at Gibbs Care Center, Steelville, Missouri at the age of 87 years, one month, and 28 days. On May 21, 1938 at Davisville, Missouri, Pansy Bernice Taff was united in marriage to Charles Walter Scott. Two sons and one daughter were born to this union. Pansy and Walter were blessed with over 63 years together before Walter passed away on October 10, 2001. In addition to her parents and husband, Pansy was preceded in death by her sister, Loretta Decker and two brothers, Joseph (Joe) Taff and William (Bill) Taff. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are sons, Charles Floyd Scott and wife Lois of St. Charles, Missouri and Wayne Edward Scott and wife Suzanne of Belgrade, Montana and daughter, Janet Diann Scott of St. Louis, Missouri. Pansy devoted her life to her husband and three children and four grandchildren. She also had 10 great grandchildren that she loved dearly: grandsons, Steven Scott (Donna) and children, Sarah, Jacob, and Kayla of St. Charles, Missouri, Daniel Scott (Jody) and children, Graham and Chandler of Old Hickory, Tennessee, Michael Scott (Alicia) and children, Susan Beth and Ramsey of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; granddaughter, Rebecca Pepper (Marvin) and children, Karlie, Cailyn, and Trey of Waldron, Arkansas. When Pansy and Walter were first married, they farmed. Later they were a working couple at Indian Springs Lodge in Steelville, Missouri. During World War II, they moved to St. Louis where Walter worked at the Small Arms Plant. After the war, Walter became a pipe fitter for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Pansy was a housewife and lovingly cared for her family during these times. She loved children and babysat with devoted care for many children in her home including nephews and nieces. Everyone knew her as "Aunt Pansy". Pansy often said with pride, "I spent my whole life taking care of my children and other people's children. And I treated them all the same." When her children grew up and were gone from the home, Pansy became a salesperson at Northwest Plaza for J.C. Penney's. She worked there almost 10 years and won numerous awards for her salesmanship skills. She was also proud to be inducted into the Eastern Star of Overland, Missouri. Pansy loved to gather her family in her home for holidays to enjoy her fellowship and her homemade cooking or at her cabin on the Meramec River where she was famous for her big country breakfasts and barbeque dinners. Pansy was a faithful Christian and a member of Gray Summit United Methodist Church. She enjoyed the Christian services and singings at Gibbs Care Center. Pansy loved people and was a very social and outgoing person. She was always talking and smiling at the nurses and staff at Gibbs Care Center. Funeral services for Pansy Scott were held Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Beers and Rev. Marvin Pepper officiating. Special music of "Near the Cross", "Precious Memories", "Amazing Grace" and "God Be With You 'Til We Meet Again" were played by granddaughter Rebecca Pepper and "How Great Thou Art" was sung by Marvin Pepper. Special tributes were given by Lawrence E. Kraft, grandson Michael Scott, Ruth Creek, and grandson Daniel Scott who wrote a poem of "Ode to Grandparents". Committal prayers and interment was at Liberty Cemetery in Steelville. Serving as casket bearers were Marvin Pepper, Daniel Scott, Michael Scott, Steven Scott, Jacob Scott, and Graham Scott. The family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, Missouri.
