MO Local Obituaries for the Week of November 10, 2020 David Beckett David Beckett of Bourbon, Missouri was born in Rolla, Missouri on October 15, 1957 to Harold and Barbara (Bell) Beckett and passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at the age of 63 years. He grew up and attended school in Bourbon, Missouri and graduated from Bourbon High School in the Class of 1976. Earlier in life Dave worked as a laborer at Simmerly Sawmill and worked in many different roles there. He also worked many maintenance jobs from lawn care to ranch hand service for area farmers. He was also well known in CB and Ham Radio world where he had many friends whom he often gave life advice to and ministered to. David loved to work on machinery and tinker with things around the house. He also enjoyed building computers and repairing them. David was firm in his faith and would share the Gospel with anyone if he was given the chance to. David was accepting of everyone, no matter what walk of life they came from. He had a gentle soul. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Barbara Beckett; and a brother Michael Beckett. Goldie Lucille Calahan Goldie Lucille Calahan (nee Helms) of Cuba, Missouri, previously of Steelville, Missouri, was born on Tuesday, March 24, 1931 in Gasconade, Missouri to John David and Alma Elizabeth (Anderson) Helms and passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 11 days. Goldie grew up in Gasconade, Missouri and as a child picked grapes for Welchs. She married Madison Guy Calahan on November 15, 1948. She was a homemaker until her husband, Guy, passed away in 1977 and then had to work to provide for her family. She worked at Sullivan Shoe Factory and then as a custodian at Steelville Schools until she retired. Goldie loved to go to church and was a member of ACTS Church in Steelville, Missouri. She enjoyed baking and cooking. She liked to watch birds, loved flowers and also watching Hallmark Christmas movies. Jerry Don Hatch Jerry Don Hatch of Bourbon, Missouri, was born October 26, 1944 in Kennett, Missouri to Everett and Dorothy (Kirby) Hatch and passed away on October 31, 2020 at the age of 76 years. He grew up and attended school in Saint Louis, Missouri and went to work as a young man doing various jobs. Jerry married Norma Kee on December 19, 1966. They called House Springs, Missouri home for many years until Norma's passing in 1999. Jerry then moved to Bourbon, Missouri to make his final home. He was known for his ability to fix anything. For some time Jerry worked as a sewing machine repairman for Singer Sewing Machines. He then drove a fuel truck for many years until his retirement. Jerry enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially fishing. He also had a love for music and playing the guitar. He enjoyed restoring and working on old cars and motorcycles and was an animal lover of all kinds. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Dorothy Hatch; wife, Norma; brother, Ray Hatch; and three sisters, Shirley Robertson, Virginia Dudley and Diane Garner. Roland Edward Head Roland Edward Head of St. James, Missouri was born June 20, 1924, in Jennings, Missouri to James and Alice (Martindell) Head and passed away Monday, October 26, 2020 at the age of 96 years. Roland attended school at Matlock schoolhouse and graduated from John Hodge High School in St. James. Roland proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps from May of 1943 until November of 1945, spending 16 of those months in Italy. On November 23, 1946 Roland married Elaine R. Braun. After he returned from the service, Roland worked for General Motors then as a Research Engineer at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri for 39 years. He played a huge role in the development of the first PET Scanners. Roland was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. James, Missouri. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing bingo in his later years at the Missouri Veterans Home. Highley of Washington, Missouri, formerly of Cuba, Missouri, was born December 14, 1950 in St. Louis, Missouri to Raymond G. and Gertrude M. Sandra married Larry Wayne Highley on December 23, 1978 in a double ceremony with Larry's brother, Stanley and her best friend Debra. Sandra's working career included time working in movie theaters in St. Louis, Missouri as a teen to making candy at Sunline in Affton, Missouri, and eventually retiring after working on the electronics line at VonWeise Gear in St. Clair, Missouri. She enjoyed painting, drawing, reading, watching the Food Network channel and cooking. Sandra was extremely talented in many creative hobbies. Not only was she a talented cook, who loved all of her kitchen gadgets, but a gifted draftsperson and artist. Through her skill in drawing and painting, Sandra often created portraits, landscapes, and nature pieces as gifts for her loved ones and friends. Robert was a man of strong faith who attended church regularly and shared his love of Christ with everyone he met. He was an Army veteran. Genealogy was an important part of his life and he spent countless hours researching the family heritage as well as local history. Wilma Pauline Malone Wilma Pauline Malone of St. James, Missouri as born in DeCamp, Missouri on March 19, 1921 to Squire Abram and Martha (Lowe) Adams and passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at the age of 99 years. She married Herman Malone on September 26, 1942. Wilma was a bookkeeper at J.C. Penny's in St. Louis, Missouri for many years. She was a charter member of the First Assembly of God Church in St. James, Missouri and was very active in the Church until her health no longer permitted it. She really enjoyed being around people. After her retirement from Penny's she did volunteer work at both the St. James Care Center and The Phelps County Medical Center. Wilma enjoyed Cardinal baseball and getting her hair done on Fridays at the local beauty shop. It was about getting her hair done and finding out what was going on around town. Dorothy grew up in Berryman, Missouri. She had accepted the Lord early in life and had attended Center Point Baptist Church. She married Raymond Haffer. She later married Raymond "Ray" C. Matchell on December 11, 1980. Dorothy worked at Grandpa Pidgeon's in St. Louis, Missouri then later owned and operated the Berryman Store for 40 years. She enjoyed going to yard sales, attending church and fishing. She loved to travel, especially in the west and near the mountains. Dillion attended both St. James High and Viburnum High School where he excelled at track. When he was younger he enjoyed playing baseball on the city league. He found an appreciation for golf, pool and darts in the last few years. Dillion enjoyed music of all genres and was known to be somewhat of a ladies man. He was very social. He worked for his uncle Jeff Swyers at Meramec Siding and Windows, he was very close to Jeff, whom he thought of as a father figure. Oliver of St. James, Missouri was born August 2, 1938 to Marion Stewart and Mary Gertrude Cain Oliver and passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at the age of 82 years. He married Thelma Jean Mitchell on March 20, 1963 in Bay Springs, Mississippi. James spent most of his life as a communications technician. He traveled over the United States putting up communication towers. One of his greatest loves was operating Ham radios. He earned his masters degree in communications. He was originally from Mississippi and settled in St. James, Missouri after his wife passed away. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Mary Oliver; and wife, Thelma Oliver in September 1968. John Anslem Peterson John Anslem Peterson of Bourbon, Missouri was born on Wednesday,September 12, 1928 in Bourbon, Missouri to John and Frances Blum Peterson and passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 13 days. John married Vera Madeline Wisehart on September 22, 1947 at St. Jacobi Lutheran Church in Jennings, Missouri. John was a loyal member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Bourbon, Missouri for many years where he served the Lord in many ways such as Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, elder and church council member. He worked for Max Reichenberg for several years as a truck driver until October of 1952 when he began his lifelong career with the Missouri Highway Department (MoDOT) and worked until January of 1992. John was a whiz at math and helped design many of the local highways and bridges. He had helped his mother Frances in her restaurant, the Cottage Inn, and loved to cook. John was a hardworking man who was always telling jokes. In his earlier years he loved to dance and play games. Later he enjoyed raising cattle, playing cards, gardening, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and playing a good game of checkers. Claud Dewight Pyatt Claud Dewight Pyatt of Cuba, Missouri was born on Saturday, October 17, 1936 in Cherryville, Missouri to Otto and Martha (Harris) Pyatt and passed away Thursday, November 5, 2020 at the age of 84 years. Claud married Mary Eaton on October 2, 1960 in Cherryville, Missouri. Claud worked at McGinnis Wood Products for several years and he would later work at Mace Supermarket. He enjoyed playing his harmonica, building bird houses, walking and squirrel hunting. He could always be found with a friendly smile on his face. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Martha (Harris) Pyatt; two brothers, Ken and Troy Pyatt; one sister, Mary Imogene McBenge; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Paul Myers, Joe Stubblefield, Johnny and wife Shirley Eaton, Bertha Taber and Angela Eaton. Susan Collen Roark Susan Collen Roark of St. James, Missouri was born August 25, 1960 in Benton, Missouri to Frank and Mildred Jean Davis Randall and passed away Saturday, She married Herbert Roark on November 14, 1989. Susan loved to cooking and having family gatherings all year long. She enjoyed making crafts and her biggest hobby was shopping. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Violet LaRue; and brother, Joe Patterson. Riley, Kansas on January 1, 1956 to Gene Wells and Gloria Lorine (Taylor) Sharp and passed away Saturday, October 31, 2020 at the age of 64 years. On November 21, 1980 he married Kathy (Sliger) Wells. Artie graduated from the 1975 class of Rolla High School where he excelled as a talented athlete in track and football. He went on to also be successful boxer and Golden Glove recipient. He retired from Rolla Public Schools where he worked as a custodian at the Rolla Technical Institute with 25 years of service. He enjoyed the outdoors and going on camping trips with his wife Kathy. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jeannie Smith; and two brothers, Johnny and Martin Wells. Roger made a profession of faith at the age of eight years old. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. He lived his whole life in Crawford County and attended both Leasburg and Bourbon Schools. He was a dump truck driver and worked for Crawford County Road District #2. He loved antique cars and trucks, local history, all things western and the Andy Griffith Show. His hobbies included hunting and fishing and going to gun shows. He especially wanted to be remembered for telling jokes and making people laugh with his "Roger" stories. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Madeline West, and brother, Richard West. Joan Lee Ziebol Joan Lee (nee Howard) Ziebol of Steelville, Missouri was born April 23, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri to Hugh Frederick and Leona Schulte Howard and passed away Friday, October 30, 2020 at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 7 days. Joan married George Ziebol in December of 1993 in St. Louis, Missouri. Joan was employed at Contigo Co., a plastics factory in Bridgeton and later in Home Health Care. She attended the Covenant Praise Church of God in Cuba, Missouri for the last few years. Joan enjoyed volunteering for the local mission store and helping with senior citizens. In her spare time, she loved working puzzles and watching movies. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Leona Howard; her husband, George Ziebol; and one brother, Michael Howard.
