Bauwens of Steelville, Missouri was born on January 30, 1941 at Saint Louis, Missouri to Edward and Agnes (Thomlson) Bauwens and passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at the age of 71 years, 9 months and 6 days. He was raised in House Springs, Missouri and later in life on a farm in the Lonedell area.  He was a 31-year employee with the Chrysler Corporation and upon retirement moved to Steelville. On May 25, 1963 he was united in marriage to Linda Snodgras at the Church of God in House Springs, Missouri and to this union two children were born. He was known as a fun loving man who greatly adored his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, loved the outdoors and animals.  He was also a member of the UAW Local 110. He is survived by his wife, Linda of the family home; one son, Ken Bauewns and wife Deanna of Auburn Hills, Michigan; one daughter, Ronda Bauwens of Blue Springs, Missouri; three grandchildren, Amanda and Nathan Bauwens and Tim Robbins; one brother, Jerry Bauwens of Leubering, Missouri; Godchildren, Mike and Mindy Durbin; a special friend of the family, Pamela Ulrey of Sullivan, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Arrangements under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri. Carl A. Foster Carl A. Foster was born August 14, 1940 and passed away November 5, 2012. He served in the Marine Corp. and was a member of the GSDC of St. Louis, St. Louis and Missouri Aquarium Society. He is survived by his wife, Frances Foster; four children, Mike Schlottman, Julia Foster, Frank Foster and Jesse Foster; six grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Helen Marie Carey Gray Helen Marie Carey Gray, nee Garrison was born in Steelville, Missouri on November 4, 1919 to Laborn L. and Mary E. Burk Garrison and passed away Friday, November 9, 2012 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 93 years. In 1939 at Solo, Missouri, Helen was united in marriage to Cleton Carey and to this union, two children were born. Cleton preceded her in death in 1945. She remarried in 1952 at Davisville, Missouri to Harry Gray and to this union three children were born. Helen was of the Pentecostal faith and attended the Full Gospel Mission Church in Steelville. Prayer and Bible study were a very important part of her life. She loved taking care of children, grandchildren and loved being near all of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Laborn and Mary Garrison; her husband, Cleton Carey in 1945 and husband, Harry Gray in 1987; one son, George Leroy Carey; 10 brothers, Joseph Aaron, Clarence Dempsey, Hershel, Dorey, Rev. Elmer Dooley, George Wiley, Orville, Earl, Edward and infant Frankey Garrison; and two infant sisters, Mabel and Ellen. She is survived by her children, Carolyn Fulliam and husband Paul of Steelville, Missouri, Harriet Rector and husband James of Cuba, Missouri, Lorine Gray of Steelville, Missouri and Dewey Gray and wife Cheri of Cuba, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, Ina Carey of Steelville, Missouri; 22 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; 40 great great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. David Gourley officiating. Special music of “The Next Step” was sung and played by Rev. David Gourley and his wife Darlene. Norval Merle “Peck” Manion Norval Merle “Peck” Manion of Sullivan, Missouri was born at Sullivan, Missouri on March 27, 1926 to Jess and Ruth (Cline) Manion and passed away at the Missouri Veterans Home, Saint James, Missouri on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at the age of 86 years, 7 months and 10 days. “Peck”, as he was known by his family and friends lived the majority of his life in Sullivan and worked at the former Nu-Way Cleaners.  He honorably served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army. Peck fought in the battles of Ardennes and Rhineland and was wounded twice; the first time at Monchau, Germany and the second at Grennevich Germany.  He was in the 9th Infantry Division of the First Army and received the Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster. After his discharge, he returned home to his former position at Nu-Way Cleaners. After a time, he became employed as an over-the-road truck driver for Von der Ahe Van Lines and drove for them over 40 years and eventually retired from there. Peck was a member of the Sullivan VFW, Sullivan Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the American Legion of St. Clair, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Ruth Manion; a son, Eddy Manion; a brother, Keith Manion and a sister, June Manion. He is survived by one son, Bill Manion of Rosebud, Missouri; one grand- daughter, Kari Manion; other relatives and friends. Mash of St. James, Missouri was born in Wesco, Missouri on November 12, 1924 to Lowell and Hazel (Reeves) Mash and passed away Friday, November 9, 2012 at the Golden Living Center at the age of 87 years. Lilburn Mash was united in marriage to Marie Cowan and to this union two children were born. Lilburn proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII from 1943-1946. He received his Bachelors Degree at Washington University and his Masters Degree in Education from Drury College in Springfield, Missouri. He taught in a one-room school house at Asher Hollow, then moved into the St. James Elementary School system before moving on to Boys and Girls Town where he spent the next 35 years until he retired as a Teacher/Administrator. He was one of the original members of the St. James Country Club, and a longtime member of the St. James Methodist Church. He loved playing golf, fishing, camping, slow pitch softball, Indian baseball and his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. When the weather wasn’t cooperating there was his second favorite pastime, playing cards. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Hazel Mash; wife, Marie; and his brother, Lowell Mash Jr. He is survived by his children, Debbie Lutes and husband Don of Mountain Grove, Missouri and Marc Mash and wife Debbie of St. James, Missouri; his special friend and companion, Betty Lou Hughes of St. James, Missouri; grandchildren, Kelli Best and husband Aaron, Matthew Lutes, Lauren Sperry and husband Andrew and Sara Tune and husband Kevin; great grandchildren, Carl, Nora, Alejandro and Daniel Best, Paige, Sydney and Owen Lutes, and Peyton and Kinley Sperry and Shawn Tune; other relatives and friends. Daniel Jewel Nevins Daniel Jewel Nevins of Rolla, Missouri was born on July 12, 1923 in Fort Worth, Texas to John Thomas and Mattie Belle Nevins and passed away on November 1, 2012 at the age of 89 years. Upon his return from service during WWII he married Mary Dean Fincher. Dan was an avid golfer and worked as assistant professional at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas and played with Ben Hogan when he was the pro for the club. Enlisting in the Army Air Corp during WWII in 1943, Dan served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations with the 330th Bomber Group as a mess sergeant receiving the Victor Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Bronze Star awarded to the Bomber Group for the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal. Upon the end of the war Dan enlisted in the newly formed Air Force in 1946 rising to the rank of Senior Master Sergeant and Fire Chief for the Strategic Air Command at the time of his retirement in 1996.  During his carrier Dan received several awards of honor including the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service from December 3, 1956 to June 3, 1969, and The Airmen’s Medal for heroism at Royal Air Force Station, Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire, England on May 26, 1964. Dan and Mary loved to travel and play golf.  Dan was an ardent supporter of the Democratic Party. Dan was renowned for his cooking, an avid wood- worker and love making projects for family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mattie Belle Nevins; and his wife, Mary of 63 years. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Joan Sample and James Sample of Salem, Missouri, son and daughter-in-law, David A. Nevins and Catherine A. Nevins of Roseville, California; sister-in-law, Joan Clark of Hurst, Texas; grandchildren, Jill Denny and husband Mike of Joplin, Missouri, Staff Sergeant James Ellis Sample, his wife Tua, currently stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix, Arizona, Danielle Gerhardt and husband Andy of Sacramento, California and Kenneth Collins of New York, New York; great grandchildren, Madalen, Jalyn and Mason; other relatives and friends. John Eugene O’Neal John Eugene O’Neal of Sullivan, Missouri was born on June 2, 1962 at St. Louis, Missouri to Bessie E. (Wells) and James A. O’Neal, Sr. and passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2012 as a result of an automobile accident at the age of 50 years, 5 months and 1 day. He was raised and lived most of his life in the Sullivan area. John was employed at one time in various jobs, which included the roofing trade and security guard at Meramec Caverns. He later was a volunteer at the Meramec Community Mission in Sullivan, Missouri. He was known as an amazing musician who could play by ear any instrument, especially the guitar.  John would often have band sessions at his home. He was also known to make people laugh and was the life of the party. He knew lots of jokes and would keep those around him happy. He was preceded in death by his father, James A. O’Neal Sr.; and a brother-in-law, Earl Brown. David Marshall Robertson David Marshall Robertson of Sullivan, Missouri was born at Bourbon, Missouri on September 13, 1932 to Marshall and Rosa Lea (Payne) Robertson and passed away on Wednesday, November 07, 2012 at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 24 days. He had lived his entire life in the Sullivan and Bourbon areas. He enjoyed life as if he were a child; singing and whistling, walking around town with his cowboy hat proudly worn atop of his head.  He enjoyed playing bingo and was an avid member of the First Assembly of God in Sullivan where he received a 30-year pin for never having missed Sunday school and church in all those years.  David and was involved in many activities and enjoyed fellowship time and church dinners. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Rosa Robertson and a brother, Ervin Robertson. He is survived by two brothers, Curtis Robertson of Overland, Missouri and Vernon Robertson and wife Carol of Bourbon, Missouri; one sister, Shirley Dunne and husband Tony of Sullivan, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Steven Sullivan Steven Sullivan of St. James, Missouri was born on July 1, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri to Robert and Mildred (Muhlhauser) Sullivan and passed away Monday, October 29, 2012 at his home at the age of 57 years. Steven proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Sullivan, and to this union a son was born. Although they later divorced Steven and Elizabeth remained good friends. Steven was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to be at the river canoeing, hunting arrowheads, fishing and spending time with family and friends. Steven had the amazing ability to make a friend everywhere he went and was always able to bring a smile and share his sense of happiness with everyone around him. He was a very gifted and talented artist and he shared that passion with his son. Steven was lovingly cared for before and during his illness by his partner Mary McMurry and his beloved Jack Russell Terrier “Apache.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mildred Sullivan; and by his paternal and maternal grandparents. James “Jim” Merritt Walls James “Jim” Merritt Walls of Viburnum, Missouri was born in Leasburg, Missouri on May 23, 1931 to Samuel Merritt and Noda Elizabeth Pyatt Walls and passed away Friday, November 9, 2012 at his home at the age of 81 years. On February 19, 1956, he was united in marriage to Ada Marie Halbert. Jim served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict from 1951 to 1953. During his life he worked for Delano Oil Co., Sealtest Milk, Brown Shoe Co. and lastly for St. Joe Lead retiring in 1984 after 19years.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Viburnum, Missouri and was a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He was a former Cub Scout leader when his sons were young. In his spare time, he enjoyed working with wood and being outdoors watching the birds and squirrels. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Noda Walls; two brothers, Jerry and Davy Walls; brothers-in-law, Darrell Halbert, Leonard Fudge and Charlie Smith; and sister-in-law, Lucille Arnold. The folding and presenting of the U.S. flag was done by grandchildren, Sgt. Marcus Slade and Sgt. Bradley Slade.
