MO Local Obituaries for the Week of November 14, 2018 Betty Lou Bryan Betty Lou Bryan (nee Summers) of Steelville, Missouri was born November 15, 1930 in Crawford County to Clarence and Katherine Mullen Summers and passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at the age of 87 years, 11 months and 22 days. On December 18, 1948 in Steelville, Missouri, Betty married Wendell "Salty" P. Bryan. Betty was a member of the Steelville Presbyterian Church and the Steelville Arts Council. She was also a past member of the Highland Busy Bees Extension Club for several years. Betty was employed at the local drug store for many years and was well remembered by so many of her customers and friends. She enjoyed quilting, baking, gardening and taking care of her beautiful flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Katerine Summers; her husband, Windell Bryan; granddaughter, Ksenia Kimberly Bryan; daughter-in-law, Fern Bryan; brothers-in-law, Levi Mitchell, Dick McInnis, Louie Picarella, Jewel Bryan, Jim Bryan, Russell Bryan, Parker Ray and Bud Sappington; sisters-in-law, Mary Katherine Low and husband Don a nd Anna Louise Gerling. Special music of "One Day at a Time" and "Ave Maria'" was sung by Brian Taylor and "In the Garden" was sung by Brian Taylor and Jerry Beers accompanied on piano by Connie Rhea. Carolyn Sue Hemker Carolyn Sue Hemker of St. Clair, Missouri was born in St. Clair, Missouri on September 15, 1948 to Edwin Leo and Susie Ann Downey (nee Hawkins) and passed away on November 4, 2018 at the age of 71 years, 1 month and 19 days. As a young woman she was united in marriage and blessed to have three children. On May 1, 1994 she began sharing her life with Gary Palmer and their families were joined as one. Carolyn was a Christian, having been raised in the Baptist faith. During her working career she was employed at International Shoe Company in St. Clair, Missouri for several years. After the factory closed she worked as a waitress in the restaurant industry at various places, included Haefner's in St. Clair. She also owned and operated C& D Game Room in St. Clair for five years. She was a friendly and upbeat woman with a great spirit. She was a talented seamstress, loved to go to NASCAR and stock car races and also had a lot of fun going to Six Flags with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin Downey and Susie Downey Wagner; step-father, Raymond Wagner; and two brothers, Kenneth Downey and Gene Downey. Susan was the proud mom of Heather and Scott. Before her health began to decline, Susan worked on the farm and was a cook at different restaurants. She was truly an outdoors person. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, horseback riding and camping. She loved all animals, especially horses. She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Leavitt Hatcher. Stanley Arthur Miller Stanley Arthur Miller of Cuba was born Tuesday, December 22, 1931 at Bourbon, Missouri to and Stella (nee Ratliff) Miller and passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2018 at the age of 86 years. Stanley proudly served in the United States Army from December 4, 1952 until November 13, 1954. He received the rank of Corporal and he spent one year three months and 18 days stationed overseas during the Korean War. He earned the National Defense Service Medal. Stanley married Jane Doyle on July 27, 1963 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cuba. Stanley worked 33 years as a mechanic for Jim's Motors and he worked eight years for Don Treece hevrolet as a mechanic before retiring in 1994. Stanley enjoyed gardening, fishing with his sons, cutting wood and after he retired, he became the neighborhood mechanic. He helped Jane babysit after he retired. He loved having children around but when the house was quiet, he watched NASCAR and St. Louis Cardinal Baseball. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Stella Miller; three brothers, George and wife Edna Miller, Jim and wife Judy Miller and David Miller; daughter-in-law, Mary B. Thomas Roy Slovensky Sr. of Steelville, Missouri was born on Monday, June 21, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri to Henry Thomas Slovensky and Vivian Marie (Campbell) Slovensky and passed away on Monday, November 5, 2018 at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 15 days. Thomas graduated from Steelville High School in 1961 and attended Ranken Technical College. He worked at Doe Run as a foreman, however his true calling was ministering. He pastored at Davisville, Berryman, Cherryville, Viburnum and Glory Hill Assembly of God outside of Potosi. He attended First Assembly of God in Steelville, Missouri and was licensed as a minister through the Assemblies of God. Thomas enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and camping. He loved farming, horses and trains. Thomas loved to read and study bible prophecy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Vivian Slovensky; parents-in-law, Bertis and Zelma Boulch; sister, Joyce Marie Slovensky; and great grandson, Simon Andrew Slovensky. Audrey June Spindler Audrey June Spindler of Sullivan, Missouri was born on June 8, 1935 in Sullivan, Missouri, to Edgar Herbert and Sarah Rebecca (Bandy) Reed and passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the age of 83 years. Audrey married Robert Sego on August 22, 1953. After 18 years of marriage, they divorced. She later married Merle Spindler on March 13, 1981. In her younger days, Audrey loved playing cards and made many trips to her favorite place, Las Vegas. She was employed by the former Arro Mini Mart for 18 years and was known for her dry sense of humor and great one liners. Upon the closing of Arro, Audrey retired and chose to stay home to care for her grandson, Jordan. Audrey was a great cook and a wonderful pie maker. She made many pies for funeral dinners at First Assembly of God, where she was a member and good friend to many. She also enjoyed watching the Cardinals, reading, flower gardening and listening to music. She was preceded in death by her son, Peter Sego; parents, Edgar and Sarah Reed; and sister, Shirley Woodcock.
