MO Local Obituaries for the Week of November 19, 2008 Johnny Russell Adams Johnny Russell Adams of Cuba, Missouri formerly of Steelville, Missouri was born on Saturday, August 25, 1934 to Clarence William Adams and Ruth Irene Isgriggs Adams in Steelville, Missouri. He passed away on Monday, November 10, 2008 at the age of 74 years, 2 months, and 16 days. Johnny worked as a laborer in the sawmills before retiring. His hobbies were traveling, cutting and selling wood, floating, and walking in the woods. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Margaret Reiner, Alta (Clymer) Brakefield, Bonnie (Howard) Klein, and Bertha Adams. He is survived by his sister, Bessie West and husband Lawrence of Bourbon, Missouri, brother, George Adams of Steelville, Missouri; brother-in-law, Walter Reiner of Cuba, Missouri; aunt, Mabel Simpson of Steelville, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Visitation was Wednesday, November 12, 2008 from 6-8 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral service was Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 10 a.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. James Self officiating. Burial at Crossroads Cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri. All arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Burdette Cape Burdette Cape was born January 23, 1917 in Steelville, Missouri to James Wilbur and Flora Hibler Cape and passed away November 1, 2008 at the Hospice Care Center in Little Rock, Arkansas at the age of 91 years. He was married to Reba Hall in Thayer, Missouri and they made their home in West Plains, Missouri. During World War II he was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army with expertise in radar repair. The campaigns and battles where he served included the Normandy invasion and Battle of the Bulge. Following War II he worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in West Plains, Missouri for many years. After retirement he enjoyed caning chairs, weaving baskets and collecting antique glassware. He was a longtime member of the Curry Street Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; an infant daughter, Reba Elaine Cape; four brothers, James, Russell, Norman and Gerald Cape; one sister, Theresa Cape Schwieder; other relatives and friends. He is survived by two daughters, Marilyn (Dr. Michael) Ledbetter of Little Rock, Arkansas and Barbara (Leigh) Collins of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin; two grandchildren, Anne (Jeff) Collins-Reed of Waupaca, Wisconsin and James (Amy) Collins of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; two great grandsons, Zachary Collins and Connor Collins of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Pallbearers were Elvis Carver, Marvin Green, Randy Griffin, Scott Jacques, Jim Groves and Danny Bridges with honorary pallbearers Jim Collins and Charles Ward. Interment was in the Oak Lawn Cemetery, West Plains, Missouri. Arrangements under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home, Inc. West Plains, Missouri. Pansy Berniece Eaton Pansy Berniece Eaton, nee Parrett, was born on Thursday, August 25, 1921 in Steelville, Missouri to Herbert Parrett and Mabel Callahan Parrett. She passed away on Monday, November 10, 2008 in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 87 years, 2 months, and 16 days. Pansy married Bryan Preston Eaton on November 25, 1939 in Salem, Missouri and to this union one son was born. She worked most of her adult life as a stockroom worker in shoe factories, the most recent at Florsheim Company and was a member of the shoe workers union. Her hobbies were sewing, crocheting, and making quilts. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother Herbert Parrett, sister Margaret Huggins, brother-in-law, Wilbur Eaton; sisters-in-law, Alma Worley and Sybil Earls. She is survived by her son, Wayne Eaton of St. Louis, Missouri; sister-in-law, Gladys Eaton of Steelville, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Visitation was Thursday, November 13, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service was Friday, November 14, 2008; 11 a.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri with Rev. Delmar Hutson officiating. Paul Hutson sang “I’ll Fly Away” and “This World is not my Home.” Burial at Cherryville Baptist Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri with pallbearers Roger and Blaine Parrett, Dave Stevens, Gene Holderle, Jack and Don Kekich. All arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. Roger A. Southard Roger A. Southard was born November 6, 1942, in Rolla, Missouri to Arthur and Myrtle (Stockton) Southard and passed away Sunday, November 9, 2008, in Jefferson City, Missouri at the age of 66 years. Roger was a truck driver, a better career choice could not have been chosen, he not only loved to drive, but loved to talk about trucks and the adventures that he had. He enjoyed hunting and being outdoors, spending time with his family, and making people laugh. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sons, Michael Southard and wife Dana, of Jefferson City, Missouri; Matthew Southard, of Springfield, Missouri; Cain Southard, of Union, Missouri; Cole Southard, of Union, Missouri; brother, Leonard Southard, of St. James, Missouri; sisters, Karen Cochran and husband Elmer, of St. James, Missouri; Sharon Webster and husband Dan, of Cuba, Missouri; Verlee Foust and husband Jim, of St. James, Missouri; LaDonna Southard, of Kansas City, Missouri; grandsons, Alex, Dallas, and Dillon Southard; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2008. Funeral service was held Wednesday, November 12, 2008 in the St. James Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary with Reverend Jack Scudder officiating.
