MO Local Obituaries for the Week of November 21, 2007 Violet Mae Conway Violet Mae Conway, nee Wiesehan, of Cook Station, Missouri, was born on Sunday, July 6, 1924 in St. Louis, Missouri to George Wiesehan and Ida Wolters Wiesehan. She passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at the age of 83 years, 4 months and 7 days. She married Carl C. Conway in Salem, Missouri on January 18, 1946 and to this union one son was born. Violet and Carl owned and operated a store in Cook Station from 1951-1974 and she later worked as a bookkeeper at Arneson Timber Co. She kept an immaculate house and yard where she enjoyed working with flowers. She was an avid reader and loved to cook, especially apple pies. She accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at an early age and was a volunteer at the Eagle Flight Ministries Store. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, George and Oliver Wiesehan; three sisters, Florence Luecking, Evelyn Kroll and Gladys Stein. She is survived by her children, Wm. George “Butch” Rehkop of Pennsylvania, Eleanor Marie “Sis” Henson of Fredericktown, Missouri and Ron (Lynn) Conway of Cook Station, Missouri; sisters, Pearl Burk and Eleanor Kubernat, all of St. Louis, Missouri; special grandchildren, AJ Tinker and Kim Moore; other grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation was Wednesday, November 14, 2007 from 5-8 p.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral service was Thursday, November 15, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Brother Rob Housewright officiating. Music selections “In the Garden” and “How Great Thou Art” were sung by Evie LaRose, Kay Housewright and Paul Hutson. Burial in the Carr Cemetery, Cook Station, Missouri with pallbearers, AJ Tinker, Joey Miller, Richard Strickland, Scott Shook, Terry Counts, Les Koester and John Plank. Lewis Edward Ferrell, Sr. Lewis Edward Ferrell, Sr., 90, of Viburnum, Missouri passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Phelps County Hospital in Rolla, Missouri. He was born July 25, 1917 in Sligo, Missouri to Charles and Sadie Mae (Helms) Ferrell. On December 24, 1942 he was united in marriage to Betty Jane (Adams) Ferrell who survives of the home. Lewis retired after 47 years from St. Joe Lead Company. He was a long-time member and Deacon of the Free Will Baptist Church in Viburnum and taught the adult class for almost 40 years. He loved his church and he and Betty spent many hours visiting homebound members of the church. He was also a member of the Masons. VFW, and American Legion Post. In younger days, Lewis enjoyed hunting, fishing and doing woodworking. He loved people and always looked forward to visiting and talking with them. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Janet Louise Parrett; three sisters, Gertrude Cooper, Chris Ferrell, Esther Thompson and one brother, Virgil Ferrell. He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Phyllis Burr and husband Wally of Mountain Home, Arkansas; two sons, Charles Ferrell and wife Wanda of Lohman, Missouri and Lewis (Eddie) Ferrell Jr. and wife Valerie of Sullivan, Missouri; one sister, Ethel Bowen of Ohio; five sisters-in-law, Pauline Adams of Steelville, Missouri, Dorothy Weber of Gray Summit, Missouri, Ava Comfort of Columbia, Missouri, Opal Comfort of O’Fallon, Missouri, Anna Horn and husband Robert of Delmar, New York; one brother in-law George Adams and wife Sharon of Steelville, Missouri. An American Legion memorial service was held Thursday evening, November 15, 2007 by the Davisville American Legion Post 601 in the Britton- Bennett Funeral Home. Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 16, 2007 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Pastor Cletis Nichols officiating. Special music of “God Still Lives In This Old House”, “He Touched Me” and “He Whispered Sweet Peace To Me” was sung by Larry Sherrill with Geraldine Sherrill accompanying on piano. Serving as casketbearers were Josh Ferrell, Ryan Ferrell, Corky Burr, Jared Parrett, Tony Reese and Marvin Miller. Committal prayer and burial were in the Pleasant Point Cemetery. Military Honors were given by the St. James VFW. Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, Missouri. Ava C. Hamilton Ava C. Hamilton of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of Robert Cleveland and Eula Edith (Eaton) Cassidy on October 10, 1921 in Steelville, Missour and passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2007 in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 4 days. Ava was united in marriage to Jack L. Hamilton on April 13, 1940 in Cuba, Missouri. Together they shared 53 years of marriage.     Ava retired from Peoples Bank of Cuba, Missouri as an Assistant Cashier. She later worked at McDonalds Restaurant and was a member of the Cuba United Methodist Church. She was a former member of the Phelps County Regional Medical Center Ladies Aux., Cuba Senior Center, American Legion Post No. 522 Ladies Aux. and was a Girl Scout Leader many years. Her hobbies included ceramics and shopping. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter, Patricia Jane Hamilton; two brothers, Lawrence and Woodrow Cassidy; four sisters, Doris Lincks, Mary Jane Gambill, Mildred and Virginia Cassidy; brother-in-law, Quentin and wife Fay Hamilton. Tammy Jean Kirk Tammy Jean Kirk of Sullivan, Missouri was born January 27, 1960 at Washington, Missouri to Carl and Janet (Woodcock) Green and she passed away Friday, November 9, 2007 at the age of 47 years. She was a life-long resident of Sullivan, Missouri and was a graduate of Sullivan High School Class of 1978. She was employed for a time at Paramount Headwear Company in Bourbon, Missouri as an inspector. She loved the river, collecting rocks and helping people. She is survived by a daughter, Shannan Yoest and husband Kyle of Valley Park, Missouri; parents; sister, Teresa Record and husband Bill of Sullivan, Missouri; a cherished friend, Joy Huffman of Sullivan, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Ruth Koch Ruth Koch of Sullivan, Missouri was born August 10, 1921 at Hillsboro, Missouri to Emil and Carolyn (Temming) Steinbach and she passed away at the family home on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at the age of 86 years. On April 16, 1944 she was united in marriage to William Koch at Hillsboro, Missouri and to this union six children were born. She was a homemaker who loved the Lord. She loved to quilt and created many beautiful quilts with love and patience for her family. She spent many hours writing cards and letters. She was a member of Saint Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Sullivan, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandchild, one great grand- child; eight brothers and sisters, Emil Steinbach, Alma Steinbach, Elsie Hewitt, Oscar Steinbach, Clara Schorr, Ester Steinbach, Erna Noack and Victor Steinbach. Lager of Cuba, Missouri was born Wednesday, February 8, 1922 at St. Louis, Missouri to the union of Conrad Lager and Mary (nee Cordes) Lager and passed away Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 85 years and 9 months. Hal was united in marriage to Alberta Bequette on June 30, 1945 at St. Louis, Missouri and to this union six sons were born. He served in the United States Navy from 1943 until 1945 during WWII. After the Navy he worked as an engineer for over 30 years at the St. Louis terminal Railroad. He retired in 1984. In 1984 Hal and Alberta moved from St. Louis, Missouri to Indian Hills. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing golf, pitching horseshoes, fishing, playing poker and bowling. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three sons, Randolph, Gary and Gerald Lager and other family and friends. He is survived by three sons, Richard, Ronald and Terry (Patti Pendergast) Lager of Cuba, Missouri; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Joan (nee Bequette) Rushing of Afton, Missouri; nieces, nephews and friends. Alexies Elvira Marshall Alexies Elvira Marshall (nee Licklider), 57 of Ironton, Missouri passed away Saturday, November 10, 2007 at her home. She was born July 7, 1950 to Oliver and Charlotte (Litty) Licklider in Steelville, Missouri. Alexies was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She had worked as a cosmetologist and at San Val. She was preceded in death by one sister, Gwen Larrison. She is survived by her parents; one daughter, Michelle Helms and husband, Rodney of Steelville, Missouri; one son, Douglas Marshall of Steelville, Missouri; three sisters, Evonne Trowbridge and husband Tom, Charlotte Stringer and husband Roger and Charita Bunch and husband John all of Steelville, Missouri; one brother, Orville Licklider and wife Lisa of Steelville, Missouri; two grand-daughters, Samantha Helms and Jessica Helms of Steelville, Missouri, other relatives and friends. Missey Ralph Missey of Bourbon, Missouri was born October 3, 1941 to Clarence and Phelma (Jones) Missey and passed away at his home on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at the age of 66 years. He lived his entire life in Bourbon, Missouri with the exception of honorably serving his country with the U.S. Navy in 1959. On August 21, 1965 he was united in marriage to Erma Trout at St. Louis, Missouri. He was employed for a time with the City of Bourbon at the Water Treatment Plant and later as a bus driver for the Bourbon School District. He enjoyed meeting his friends daily for coffee at the Circle N and was known for his sharp wit and humor. He found pleasure in playing his guitar and singing and was best known for his artistic ability. Many of his paintings are displayed in the area. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lily Jo Missey and two brothers, Clyde Missey and Dean Jones. Liam Mikal Pogue Liam Mikal Buckner-Pogue of Cuba, Missouri was born Wednesday, November 7, 2007 to the union of Robert “Bobby” Pogue and Sarah Buckner and passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 7 days. He was preceded in death by his great grandparents, Frank and Dorothy Keogh, Morris and Helen Buckner and other family members. Watson Melba M. Watson of Sullivan, Missouri was born July 19, 1933 at Wortham, Missouri to Woodrow and Myrtle (Hughs) Blankenship. She passed away Monday, November 12, 2007 at the age of 74 years. On December 30, 1950 she was united in marriage to Donald Watson at Pocahontas, Arkansas and they have made their home in Sullivan since 1961. She worked for a time as an elementary school aide and would work when needed in the family business. She enjoyed embroidering and cooking and loved caring for her children and grandchildren. At the age of 18 she was baptized into the Baptist faith at Irondale Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW and Past-president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Sullivan Fraternal Order of Eagles. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Ricky Blankenship and a grandson, Christopher Watson. She is survived by four children, Scott Watson and wife Charlotte, Kaye Schmidt and husband Matt, Terri Bailey and husband Jim and Beth Miller and husband Kevin, all of Sullivan, Missouri; special cousin, Rosemary Merrill and husband Linn of Ebo, Missouri; niece, Tonya Goforth; two nephews, Donald and Kevin Goforth; 11 grandchidren, Stacey, Jamie, Shannon, Kyle, David, Justin, Amanda, Nicholas, Meghan, Donita and Kasilda; six great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
