Mable Jane Brown
Mable Jane Brown (nee Lea) was born Sunday, March 14, 1909, a daughter of
the late William Lea and Ella Josephine (Wood) Lea. She entered eternal
rest Wednesday, November 22, 2000, in the Phelps County Regional Medical
Center, Rolla, Mo., at the age of 91 years, 8 months and 8 days.
Mable was born and raised in Scotia, Mo. During the 1920's when times were
hard she left home to seek employment in St. Louis, where she became the
nanny of two small boys. In the 1930's she moved to help her parents run
their family business, a general store at Hoflin, Mo., just east of Cuba,
where she served the community as Postmaster.
During the early 1940's she attended a dance at Leasburg and was escorted
home by a gentleman and a short time later, they eloped in Union, Mo. She
and Clarence M. Brown, son of R. Spain Brown and Mollie (Slovensky) Brown
were married November 12, 1941. One son and two daughters were born to this
union.
After their marriage they lived on the homesteaded Brown Family Farm six
miles east of Steelville.
During the 60's and 70's after raising her children, she was employed at
Greigs Supermarket for many years where she always greeted customers and
fellow workers with kindness and a smile.
After the death of Clarence in 1983 she left the family farm and in 1985
moved into the Steelville Homes Apartments where she remained until her
passing.
Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, crocheting, quilting, and she enjoyed
growing flowers and having a large garden.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her son Richie Brown and
wife Mary of Billings, Mo.; two daughters Jane and husband Wayne Reed of
Potosi, Mo., Virginia and husband Harold Cape of Steelville, Mo.
Three sisters-in-law, Nora Lea of Steelville, Mo. and Edna Lea of Cuba,
Mo., Frediah Green of Madison, Illinois.
Seven grandchildren, Wayne Reed, Melissa and husband Mike Eye, Darin Reed
and wife Joan, Brad Cape and wife Elgeana, Molly and husband John
Slovensky, Ellen and Joshua Brown; nine great-grandchildren, Stephany,
Cody, Tanner, Dakota, Madelyne, Brady, Taylor, Brennan, and Mariah; nieces,
nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three
brothers, Sam, Ben and Clyde Lea; four sisters, Gladys and husband Andrew
Wallis, Virginia Mae Lea, Anna Christmas and Bessie West; sisters-in-law
and brothers-in -law, Clarence Green, Theodore and Mary Brown, Anna and
Hugh Garrison and Willie Brown.
Mable Jane Brown lay in state 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, November 24, 2000,
at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo.
Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 25, 2000 in the
Britton Chapel with Rev. Melvin Reed officiating. Musical selections were
provided by pianist Pat Simpson and vocalists Laurie and Audrey Franklin.
Committal prayers and interment were in Brown Cemetery, East Highway 8,
Steelville, Mo. Serving as pallbearers were Joshua Brown, Brad Cape, Mike
Eye, Darin Reed, Wayne Reed, and John Slovensky.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Mo.
Roger A. Gilliam
Roger A. Gilliam of Rolla passed away Friday, November 24, 2000 at the
Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla at the age of 51.
Roger, son of the late Albert Henry and Barbara (Worley) Gilliam was born
June 21, 1949 at Waynesville, Mo. Roger and Karen (Stetina) were united in
marriage March 9, 1968 and to this union three children were born. Roger
worked as an iron worker for 30 years.
Roger is survived by his wife, Karen Gilliam of Rolla, Mo., his mother,
Barbara Gilliam of Steelville, three children, Dan Gilliam of St. James,
Mike Gilliam and friend, Tammy of St. James, Alisa Gilliam of St. Louis,
Mo.
One brother, Bill Gilliam and wife, Vickey of Steelville, one sister, Ruth
Ann Booker and husband, Don of St. James.
One granddaughter, Danielle Gilliam, one nephew, Jim Booker, two nieces,
Melissa Manthey and Lisa Weber, three great-nephews, Ryan Weber, Cody
Manthey and T. J. Booker, one great-niece, Reese Weber.
Preceding him in death were his father, Albert Henry Gilliam, grandparents,
Floyd and Mildred Worley, James W. and Anne Gilliam, father-in-law, Dale
Stetina and mother-in-law, Gwenith Stetina.
Funeral services were conducted at James and Gahr Chapel on Monday,
November 27, 2000 with Rev. Mick Thrasher officiating. Organ music was
provided by Sherry Hathaway, with vocal selections by Stephanie Rogers.
Pallbearers were Jim Booker, Jerry Midyett, Joe Midyett, Ed Denison, Sammy
Auxier and Brad Wood. Honorary pallbearers were Sam Auxier, Perry Macormic,
Leon Henderson, Skip Moore and Bill Barnett.
Interment was in Steelville Cemetery in Steelville, Mo.
Arrangements were under the direction of James and Gahr Mortuary in St.
James, Mo.
Thelma E. Haug
Thelma E. Haug of Cuba, Mo., formerly of Bonne Terre, Mo., passed away on
Wednesday, November 22, 2000 at the age of 92 years.
Mrs. Haug was born on November 4, 1908 in Bourbon, Mo. to the late Roy and
Alice (Campbell) Harrison, and was raised in the Bourbon area. Before
marriage Thelma taught school for twelve years in the Bourbon and St. Louis
areas. On July 16, 1938 she was joined in marriage to Edward Joseph Haug,
Sr. in Bonne Terre, Mo., and to this union three children were born.
Throughout her adult life, Mrs. Haug served her family as a devoted wife,
mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed playing bridge, going on family picnics,
and singing in the church choir. She was a longtime member of the First
Congregational Church of Bonne Terre. On February 12, 1996 her husband,
Edward, preceded her in death. Thelma will always be cherished and
remembered as an extremely dedicated and caring woman.
She is survived by two sons, Edward Haug, Jr. and wife, Carol, of Bayfield,
Colorado and James Haug and wife, Lourdes, of Plantation, Florida; one
daughter, Yolanda Michaels of Topanga, California; two brothers, James
Harrison and wife, Ruthene, of Bourbon and George Harrison and wife, Velva,
of Kirkwood, Mo.; two sisters, Elinor Brenton of Cuba and Fern Hirzy and
husband, Tony, of Bourbon; three grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other
relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Thelma was
preceded in death by two brothers, Clark and Edwin Harrison, and one
sister, Alice Harrison.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, November 25, 2000 at 12:00
p.m. from the Eaton Chapel in Bourbon with Reverend Sally Ketterer
officiating. Interment was in the Bourbon Cemetery. If desired, memorials
may be made to the First Congregational Church of Bonne Terre Organ Fund or
to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mrs. Thelma E. Haug.
Margaret A. Jones
Margaret A. Jones of Bourbon, Mo. passed away on Thursday, November 23,
2000 at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 9 days.
Margaret was born on May 16, 1924 at Bourbon, Mo. to the late William and
Jessie (Douglas) Miller. She made her home in Bourbon and later graduated
from high school there. Margaret's primary vocation throughout her adult
life was that of a waitress. She was employed by various restaurants and
cafes throughout the Bourbon area. She found pleasure in reading and
quilting. Margaret was a caring person who would always lend a helping hand
when needed by others. She professed her faith in Jesus Christ and attended
the First Baptist Church of Bourbon.
She is survived by one son, Gregory Ross of Nashville, Tennessee; one
brother, James Miller of the state of Wyoming; two sisters, Elizabeth
Griffith of the state of Oklahoma and Virginia Pinnell of the state of
Texas; special nieces, Wanda Starbeck, Barbara Pinnell and Sue Todd, all of
Bourbon; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Margaret
was preceded in death by six brothers, Roy, William, Ray, Leslie, Eugene
and Lawrence Miller, and four sisters, Grace Roberson, Mildred Pennock,
June Moutray, and Ethel Schlafer.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 27, 2000
from the Eaton Funeral Chapel in Bourbon with Pastor Devin Haus
officiating. Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery. Visitation for Mrs.
Margaret Jones was held from 3:30 until 9:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the
Eaton Funeral Chapel in Bourbon.
Elaine Grace Lakaner
Elaine Grace Lakaner nee Smith of Cuba, Missouri was born on November 6,
1934 at Cook Station, Missouri to the union of Emery Ray and Daphia Ray nee
Benton and passed away on November 15, 2000 at Missouri Baptist Hospital,
Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 66 years 9 days.
On July 4, 1954 Elaine was united in marriage to Ted Lakaner at Steelville,
Missouri. Two sons, Mike and Kevin, and one daughter, Sandy, were born to
this union. Elaine and Ted have been happily married for 46 years.
Elaine was a member of the Straightway Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri
and served her Lord faithfully.
Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her loving
husband Ted Lakaner; two sons Mike Lakaner and Kevin Lakaner and wife
Christy; one daughter Sandy Lakaner Boekemier; three brothers Wayne Smith,
Tom Smith and Jerry Smith and wife Rosella; one sister Nellie Harris and
husband Hartford; 6 grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and
many friends.
Elaine was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, good friend
to all who knew her and will be sadly missed.
Elaine G. Lakaner nee Smith was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of
Cuba, Missouri on Friday, November 17, 2000 after 5 p.m. Funeral services
were held on Saturday, November 18, 2000 at 11 a.m. at the Straightway
Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Melvin Reed and Rev. John
Limberoupolus officiating. Interment was in the Straightway Cemetery,
Steelville, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Lea Johanna Ludwig
Lea Johanna Ludwig was born December 11, 1908 in Bem, Missouri, Gasconade
County. She was the daughter of Henry and Emma (Diebold) Glaser. Lea
attended the Collier school in Bem and was a member of the St. John's
United Church of Christ.
Lea worked as a nurse in St. Louis for many years. She enjoyed reading,
embroidery, travel and being with family and friends.
Lea departed this life the morning of November 15, 2000 at the Missouri
Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Missouri. Her last three years were spent
under the loving care of Pilkenton Residential Care in Cuba, Missouri.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Earline Niles and her
husband, Roland of St. Louis and Wauneda Scarlata of Wichita, Kansas.
One sister Amy Schultz of Owensville; one brother Chester Glaser of Cuba;
seven grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives
and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Emma Glaser; three
brothers Bill, Martin and Fred Glaser and two sisters Ida Voss and Anna
Schlottach.
Private graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2000
in the St. John's United Church of Christ Cemetery at Bem, Missouri with
Rev. Todd Hackman officiating. Services were under the direction of
Waynesville Memorial Chapel.
Julia Ederati Paule
Julia Paule was born December 28, 1904 in Rosati, Missouri to Hector Pete
Ramori and Argentina Vitali Ramori, and passed away on November 3, 2000 at
Crawford County Care Center in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 95 years, 10
months and 5 days.
Julia grew up in Rosati. She was baptised in January 1905 and was a member
of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
On May 12, 1923 Julia Ramori was united in marriage to Sam Ederati, and to
this union one son was born. Sam died on December 20, 1940. Julia moved to
St. Louis in 1944. On January 8, 1949 she married Arthur Paule in St.
Louis, Missouri. In 1968 they moved back to Cuba to retire. Arthur died on
December 9, 1970.
Julia will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.
She enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, and flowers. She was able to
live in her own home until past her 92nd birthday.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, an infant, and
three sisters, Nellie Piazza, Inez Paulsell and Katie Piazza.
She is survived by her son Raymond Ederati and wife Mary of Cuba; her
daughter Audrey McClelland of Valley Park, MO; three grandsons, Daune
Ederati of Columbia, MO, David Ederati and wife Lora of Lancaster, PA, and
Steven McClellend and wife Ginger of Manchester, MO.
Two great grandsons, Anthony Ederati and wife of Naples, FL, and Eric
Ederati of Lancaster, PA. Two brothers Hector P. Ramori and wife Lillian of
Cuba, MO, and Domenic J. Ramori and wife Daphna of Cuba, MO.
Two sisters Ernestine Bond of Overland, MO, and Louise Stark of West Palm
Beach, FL; a brother-in-law, George Piazza of Cuba, MO; nieces, nephews,
great nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends, all who will
sadly miss and fondly remember Julia Ederati Paule.
Visitation was held from 6-8:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2000 at Hutson
Funeral Home in Cuba. A Vigil Service was held at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass was held on Monday, November 6, 2000 at Holy Cross Catholic
Church in Cuba, Missouri with Rev. Robert Duesdiker officiating.
All arrangements were under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba,
MO.
Lola J. Palmer
Lola J. Palmer of Sullivan, Mo. passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2000
at the age of 69 years.
Mrs. Palmer was born on June 7, 1931 at Canaan, Mo. to the late Samuel and
Lizzie (Pasch) Roberson. Mrs. Palmer was raised in the Canaan area and
attended school there until the 8th grade. On April 26, 1947 she was
married to Otto F. Palmer at Sullivan, and to this union six children were
born. After living in various parts of the country, Lola and her family
settled in Sullivan over 30 years ago.
She was a compassionate, gracious, and spiritual woman, who was constantly
concerned about the welfare of others. Lola was a follower of the
Pentecostal faith. She found pleasure in flowers, working puzzles,
traveling, and watching her "soaps." Her greatest joy, however, came from
her many grandchildren, to whom she was especially endeared.
She is survived by her husband, Otto, of Sullivan; two sons, Dale Palmer of
Stanton, Mo. and Bill Palmer of Sullivan; three daughters, Patricia Hoehne
of Bourbon, Mo., Rebecca Zeugin of Steelville, Mo. and Naomi Larue of
Sullivan; 17 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, other relatives and
friends. In addition to her parents, Lola was preceded in death by one son,
Riley Palmer, seven brothers, Raymond, David, Clyde, Donald, Milford,
Stanley and Jack Roberson; and six sisters, Duella, Marie, Naomi, Bessie,
and a set of twins in infancy.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 26, 2000
from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Harold
Harrison officiating. Interment was in Crow Cemetery.
Michael David Perry
Michael David Perry of Cuba, Mo. was born on July 21, 1956 at St. Louis,
Mo. to the union of Harvey James Perry, II and Gloria June Perry nee
Crabtree and passed away on November 20, 2000 at the Missouri Baptist
Hospital, Sullivan, Mo. at the age of 44 years, 3 months and 29 days.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Marsha LaChance.
Mike was a long time employee of Chrysler of Fenton, Mo. and a member of
the United Auto Workers.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his two loving
sons, Kristopher and Kevin Perry; two brothers, Harvey J. Perry, III and
Patrick Perry; two sisters Sue Love and Cindy Williams; nieces; nephews;
other relatives and many friends.
Mike was a loving father, brother, good friend to all who knew him and will
be sadly missed.
Michael David Perry was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
where funeral services were held on Saturday, November 25, 2000 at 1:00
p.m. with Rev. Charles Likely officiating. Interment was in the Kinder
Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo.
Katherine Cromwell Yeager
Katherine Cromwell Yeager, (nee Clark) 89, died November 7th in Westport,
Connecticut.
Mrs. Yeager was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire daughter of the late Jack
and Marguerite Cole Clark. Her maternal great grandfather was Judge Daniel
Donahoe and her paternal great grandfather was General Nelson Cole. Gen.
Cole was also former Mayor of St. Louis, Missouri.
Survivors include one daughter, Jane C. Bulkley and one granddaughter,
Pamela Bulkley, both of Westport, CT. Two sisters, Nancy Ransome of
Morrestown, NJ, and Joan Wilson of So. Strafford, VT. Two cousins, Mary
Elders Pounds and family of Cuba, MO and Robert Brickner of Texas and San
Francisco, CA.
Interment in Rolla Cemetery, Rolla, MO will be private. The Britton Funeral
Home, Cuba, MO is in charge of arrangements.
Rose Mary Turnbough
Rose Mary Turnbough (nee Downs) was born Tuesday, June 7, 1927 at Elvins,
Mo., a daughter of the late Roy Downs and Myrtle (Fingers) Downs.
She entered eternal rest Wednesday, November 22, 2000, in the Fountain Blue
Nursing Center, Festus, Mo., at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 15 days.
On June 7, 1944, at Tower Grove Baptist Church, St. Louis, Mo., Rose was
united in marriage to Elvin James 'Al' Turnbough. Four sons and two
daughters were born to this union. They were sixteen when they were married
and enjoyed over fifty-two years together before his death, July 22, 1996.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her daughter, Linda and
husband Al Melchior of Festus, Mo.; two sons, Bruce 'Huck' Turnbough and
wife Brenda, John Turnbough and wife Tracy, all of DeSoto, Mo.,
daughter-in-law Jackie of St. Charles, Mo.
Four sisters, Lucille McIntyre, Wanda and husband Ernie Devoti, Millie
Scronce, and Peggy, husband Ray Durrance, all of Florida.
Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Hazel and John Kozlowski of Texas,
Betty and Ken Schenck of Scottsdale, Arizona, Sarah Kuntz of Viburnum, Mo.,
Anthony Jackson of St. Charles, Mo.; nine grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many
friends.
In addition to her parents and Al, Rose was preceded in death by one
daughter, Joyce Turnbough; two sons, Elvin James Turnbough, Jr., and
Richard Edmond Turnbough; one sister Ruth Boly; brothers-in-law and
sisters-in-law, Carl Boly, Mac McIntyre, Robert Kuntz, Brenda Jackson,
Glenwood Turnbough and William "Bill" Turnbough.
Rose Mary Turnbough lay in state after 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 24,
2000, at the Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were
held 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 24, 2000, in the Britton Chapel with Rev.
Glenn and Shirley Gowen officiating.
Committal prayers and interment were in Czar Cemetery, Viburnum, Mo.
Honoring their grandmother as pallbearers were Jesse Kerby, Al Melchior,
Nik Melchior.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Mo.
