Karlheinz Eissinger
Karlheinz Eissinger of Rolla, Missouri was born to Heinrich “Henry” and
Frieda Eissinger on November 14, 1925 in Sykeston, North Dakota and passed
away November 30, 2009.
As a young man, he attended Mississippi College in Jackson, Mississippi;
Louisiana Polytechnic Institute in Ruston, Louisiana; and Princeton
University in Princeton, New Jersey, eventually receiving a B.S. in both
Geology and Civil Engineering at what was then the Missouri School of Mines
and is now the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla.
Karl proudly served in both the U.S. Navy and in the Army Reserves during
and after World War II. In 1978, he retired from the United States
Geological Survey after 28 years of service as a cartographer.
On May 14, 1950, Karl married Loula Mae Keeney of Licking, Missouri and to
this union four children were born. After frequent travel throughout the
United States with the USGS, Karl and Lou chose to settle in Rolla to raise
their young family. Karl served in the Rolla community as a member of the
Rolla City Council, the Planning and Zoning Commission, Boy Scout leader
and member of the Rolla Lions Club. He was also an active member in both
the Immanuel and Redeemer Lutheran churches.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav Heinrich Eissinger and
Frieda Haupt Eissinger Ditmer and grandson, Austin Karl Eissinger.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lou; his children, Bea Thurston
of Corpus Christi, Texas, Richard and wife Paige of St. James, Missouri,
Terri Harney and husband David of Hannibal, Missouri and Steve and wife
Kathy of Union, Missouri; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren;
other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be at James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla, Missouri on
Wednesday, December 2, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. Services will be held at
Redeemer Lutheran Church on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 11 a.m. with
Pastor Gerald Wittmaier officiating.
Interment will be at Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens in Rolla with full
military honors.

Missouri.
Gary Chapman Erni
Gary Erni of Bourbon, Missouri was born on October 10, 1938 in Bourbon,
Missouri to Luther J. and Aileen (nee Chapman) Erni and passed away
Thursday, November 26, 2009 at the age of 71 years.
He served his country in the U.S. Army after graduating Bourbon High
School.
He married Bonnie Puckett and to this union two children were born.
He was a life long resident of Bourbon, Missouri and loved cattle farming.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Aileen Erni.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of the family home; two children, Daniel
Erni and wife Shelley of Taylorville, Illinois and Jill Comely of Union,
Missouri; one grandson, Evan Comely; other relatives and friends.
Services were private.

Missouri.
James “Jim” A. Hewkin
James “Jim” A. Hewkin of Cuba, Missouri was born October 23, 1932 in
Granite City, Illinios to Si and Clella (Greenwood) Hewkin and passed away
Monday, November 23, 2009 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Missouri
at the age of 77 years.
On May 24, 1952 in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas he was united in marriage to
Marilyn Marie Enke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Si and Clella Hewkin; four brothers,
Buster, Donald, Rodney and Homer Hewkin; two sisters, Eloise Garms, Naomi
Boll and husband Walter; sisters-in-law, Ruby Hewkin and Shirlie Bradshaw;
and brother-in-law, Charles Enke.
Jim was self-employed in the construction business for several years.
He was involved in the Crawford Co. Republican Central Committee and was
past chairman for many years. He and Marilyn attended the First Baptist
Church in Cuba, Missouri and Jim was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member
of the Lebanon Masonic Lodge of Steelville.
Jim enjoyed buying and redoing old cars, the times spent at the round table
with coffee and friends and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn Hewkin of Cuba, Missouri;
four sons, Jimmy Hewkin, Tommy Hewkin and wife Brandy, all of Cuba,
Missouri, Mark Hewkin and wife Alice of Sullivan, Missouri and David Hewkin
of Croatia; two daughters, Debbie Summers and husband Kerry of Steelville,
Missouri and Beth Burrus and husband Jamie of Cuba, Missouri; one brother,
Lenny Hewkin of Steelville, Missouri; two sisters, Darlene Cape and husband
Jim of Cuba, Missouri and Colleen Woolbright and husband Glen of Manchester,
Missouri; sisters-in-law, Leora Hewkin of Davisville, Missouri, Shirley
Hewkin, June Hewkin of St. Louis, Missouri, Vera Hewkin of Steelville,
Missouri, Marlene Clonts and husband Emery of Steelville, Missouri, Joan
Gardner and special friend Moe of Alabama; brother-in-law, Jay Garms of
Steelville, Missouri; 14 grandchildren, Kerry Summers and wife Becky, Kristi
Marquez and husband Juan, Jennifer Moreland and husband Joe, Mark, Matthew
and Marissa Hewkin, Michael, Alexandrea, Andrew and Laicee Hewkin and
Morgan, R. J., Ashton and Elaina Burrus; six great grandchildren, Madison,
Bryer and Hunter Summers, Baylee and Owen Marquez and Lexie Moreland; other
relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, November 27, 2009 at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the
Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville with Rev. Bob Knight and
Rev. Mike Cooper officiating. Special music of “Blessed Jesus Hold My Hand”
was sung by great grandson, Hunter Summers and accompanied on guitar by
Rev. Mike Cooper. Other special music was a medley of songs sung by his
children with spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren. At the
conclusion of the service, “Written in Red” was sung by son, David Hewkin
and accompanied by Darlene Cape on piano.
Graveside scripture was read by Rev. Bob Knight, remembrances were given
by granddaughter, Kristi Marquez and closing prayer was by Rev. Mike
Cooper.
Interment was in the St. John’s United Church of Christ Cemetery at Bem,
Missouri.
Casket bearers were Tom Hewkin, Mark Hewkin, Jimmy Hewkin, David Hewkin,
Kerry Summers, Sr. and Kerry Summers, Jr. Honorary casket bearers were
Mark Hewkin, II, Matthew Hewkin and Michael Hewkin.

Verna E. Klocke
Verna E. Klocke of Bourbon, Missouri, was born August 10, 1923 at Leslie,
Missouri to Harry and Hulda (Schmidt) Westerman and passed away Saturday,
November 21, 2009 at the age of 86 years.
She was raised in the Leslie area and on November 1, 1941 was united in
marriage to Charles Klocke at Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Beaufort,
Missouri.
She could be found sitting at her large picture window in her home and
waving at all of the people who passed by.
She did her own canning from her garden and was a baker of many homemade
pies and cakes for her family. She was a member of the Saint John’s
Lutheran Church of Beaufort and a guest member at Concordia Lutheran
Church in Bourbon, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles and two sisters, Evelyn
Nevills and Minola Tuschhoff.
She is survived by a son, Jim Klocke and wife Julie of Bourbon, Missouri;
one daughter, Lois Hollingshead and husband Jerry of Bourbon, Missouri; a
special nephew, Gary Tuschhoff of Leslie, Missouri; two sisters, Wilma
Helling of Beaufort, Missouri and Betty Dimmett of Union, Missouri; seven
grandchildren, Shawna Terry and husband Matt, John and Justin Klocke,
Laura Missey and husband Michael, Anthony Matchell and fiancée Alisha,
Jerod and Evan Hollingshead; seven great grandchildren; other relatives
and friends.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 from
Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Beaufort, Missouri with Pastor Patrick
Runk officiating.
Interment was in the church cemetery.

Alan L. Lane
Alan L. Lane of Sullivan, Missouri was born at Prineville, Oregon to
Randall Lee and Velma Irene (Smith) Lane and passed away at his home on
Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the age of 62 years, 2 months and 18 days.
During his elementary school years the family lived in various parts of
the country and later settled in the Union, Missouri area around 1960.
He served his country during the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army and later
retired from service at the rank of SP5.
On August 29, 1980 he was united in marriage to Peggy Ann Carter at
Madisonville, Kentucky.
They came to Sullivan and he worked as a Lab Technician at the Sullivan
Hospital until 1998 and became employed at Esselte Manufacturing in Union,
Missouri. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, participating in turkey shoots
and going to the horse racing track.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Velma Lane and a brother, Larry
Lane.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Ann of the family home; one son, Brad
Lane and wife Mendy of Bourbon, Missouri; daughter, Becky Elias of
Madisonville, Kentucky; brother, Jim Lane of St. Clair, Missouri; one
sister, Janice Young of the state of California; six grandchildren; other
relatives and friends.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2009 from the
Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri with Pastor Carl Parker
officiating.
Interment with full military honors was in the Oddfellows Memorial
Cemetery, Sullivan, Missouri.

Col. Lawrence Edward Mullen
Col. Lawrence Edward Mullen of Cuba, Missouri was born on Friday,
January 9, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri to John Edward Mullen and Martha
Leona Walden Mullen and passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2009 in
Columbia, Missouri at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 17 days.
Col. Mullen married Alma Gene Laney on June 28, 1942 in Cuba, Missouri and
to this union four children were born.
He retired from the United States Army as an officer after serving 34 years
including tour duties of WWII, Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retirement,
they built a home in Cuba, where they raised cattle and grew Christmas trees
on their farm. Many folks from the area purchased their Christmas trees from
the Mullen’s family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Martha Mullen; wife, Gene
and sister-in-law, Wilma Mullen.
He is survived by his children, Terry (Robert) Norris of Ballwin, Missouri,
John Mullen of Washington, D.C., Larry Mullen of Iberia, Missouri and Robert
(Bonnie) Mullen of Columbia, Missouri; sister, Dolores (Bill) Jones of
Maryland Heights, Missouri; brothers, Wayne (Joy) Mullen of Woodbury,
Tennessee, Donald (Jean) Mullen of Cuba, Missouri and Clinton (Judy) Mullen
of Mulvane, Kansas; grandchildren, Patricia (Ken) Clariday of Burlington,
New Jersey, Jennifer (Dustin) Gaj of Ballwin, Missouri, Tim Mullen and Tony
(Kelli) Mullen all of Billings, Montana, Edward V. Mullen and Debbie Evans
of Springfield, Missouri and Jason Mullen of Knoxville, Tennessee; step
grandchildren Denise (Mark) Mueller of Cuba, Missouri, Lisa (Jeff) Stewart
of Suffolk, Virginia, Tracy (Chuck) Hempel of Sullivan, Missouri and Edward
Dati of Columbia, Missouri; eight great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Larry
Laney of Steelville, Missouri; aunt Florence Mullen of Sullivan, Missouri;
special friend Carry Magel of Cuba, MO; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Wednesday, December 2, 2009 from 10 a.m.-noon and funeral
service at noon at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri with Rev. Spencer
Hutson officiating. Burial at Lick Creek Cemetery, Leasburg, Missouri with
full military honors.
Arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri.
Robert “Bob” L. Phenix
Robert “Bob” L. Phenix of Steelville, Missouri was born in Belle, Missouri
on Thursday, June 29, 1944 to Everett Phoenix and Eunice Vandiver Phoenix
and passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the age of 65 years,
4 months and 30 days.
Bob served in the United States Air Force during the Viet Nam conflict and
was stationed in Thailand working as a helicopter mechanic. He married
Elizabeth Hutson on July 18, 1969 and to this union three sons were born.
He worked in construction before retirement. His hobbies were gardening,
yardwork, watching basketball, baseball, Rams football, hunting, and fishing
with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Eunice Phoenix; in-laws,
Santa and Rose Hutson; brothers Borden and J.C. Phenix; sister, Mildred
(Ernie) Burnett; stepsister, Sharon Watson; sisters-in-law, Grace Rogers,
Edith Cornick, and Gail Hutson; brothers-in-law, Paul Robinson and Ed
Conaway.
He is survived by his wife, Liz of the home; sons Steve Phenix and fiancee
Mary and Shawn Phenix of Steelville, Missouri and Scott (Syndi) Phenix of
St. James, Missouri; sisters, Lucy Robinson of St. James, Missouri and
Helen (Jim) Moreland of Vichy, Missouri; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law,
Dovie Conaway, Cecelia (Sydney) Ransom, Howard (Marion) Hutson, Dave Cornick
of Steelville, Missouri, Pat (Richard) Ogle, Berniece (Ervin) Dierking, Jim
Rogers, all of Sullivan, Missouri, Robert (Mary) Hutson of Berryman,
Missouri, Ina Phenix of St. James, Missouri, Rainey (Brenda) Hutson of
Cuba, Missouri and Stanley Watson of Salem, Missouri; six grandchildren,
Kyle, Levi, Wyatt, Logan, Katlyn, and Preston Phenix; three step grand-
children, Erica, Joseph, and James Setzer of Steelville, Missouri; other
relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2009. Funeral service
at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville,
Missouri with Rev. Delmar Hutson officiating.
Burial at Cherryville Baptist Cemetery with pallbearers Kyle, Levi, and Jon
Phenix, Colby Hemby, Jerome Boyet, Tony Ransom, Mike Cornick, and Danny
Medlock.
Arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville,
Missouri.
James “Jack” Woodcock
James “Jack” Woodcock of Bourbon, Missouri was born on December 14, 1926
in Sullivan to Claude and Ava Robertson Woodcock and passed away Friday,
November 27, 2009 at the age of 82 years.
He served his country during WWII as a Navy CB. He worked for many years
as a union auto worker for Ford but his passion was his cattle farm.
On August 4, 1984 he married Margie Hardy in Sullivan, Missouri.
He was a lifetime member of VFW Russell Schmidt Post 3987, a 40-year member
of the Belleville, Illinois Moose Lodge and a member of the Fraternal Order
of the Oddfellows.
He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Woodcock and his mother,
Ava Licklider.
He is survived by his wife, Margie of the family home; five children, Don
Speck of California, Walter Speck of Bourbon, Missouri, Patricia Speck of
St. Louis, Missouri, Stella Wood of Cuba, Missouri and LaFawn Thurmond and
husband Boyd of Stanton, Missouri; five grandchildren; four great grand-
children; two sisters, Betty Landing of Sullivan, Missouri and Beverly
Smallwood and husband Bob of Fenton, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 29, 2009 from the Chapel
of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri with Michael Delashmit
officiating.
Burial followed in the Cave Spring Cemetery.

Missouri.
