Elmer William Rocklage
Elmer William Rocklage of Martinsburg, Missouri formerly of Cuba, Missouri
was born Wednesday, November 21, 1914 at St. Louis, Missouri to the union
of Henry W. Rocklage and O’Linda H. (nee Rieke) Rocklage and passed away
Saturday, December 1, 2007 at Wellsville, Missouri at the age of 93 years,
1 month and 11 days.
Elmer was united in marriage to Reba Marie Reeves on July 30, 1938 at
St. Louis, Missouri and to this union two daughters were born.
He worked as a Wood Pattern Maker until his 40’s. He then became a full
time Director for the Child Evangelism Fellowship in Austin, Texas and then
Springfield, Illinois. He retired from being a director at the age of 65
and became a volunteer for the Child Evangelism Fellowship and until six
months ago he volunteered three days a week and the other two days in worked
in his wood working shop.
He was a very talented craftsman. He could design and build houses, furniture
or anything that could be made out of wood.
He was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters; his wife; one son-in-law,
Larry Hinds; other relatives and friends.
He is survived by two daughters, Nancy Jessee and Bonnie Hinds of Martinsburg,
Missouri; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren and a host of nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends.
Private funeral service was held at Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri
with Pastor Bruce Chulka officiating. “When They Ring the Golden Bells” was
the special music for the service. Burial was at Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba,
Missouri.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri.
George Gifford Scott, II
George Gifford Scott, II of Anthonies Mill, Missouri was born May 4, 1940 to
Milton John Scott and Ruth E. (Conley) Scott in Springfield, Massachusetts.
He passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at the age of 67 years.
He was raised in Lexington, Massachusetts and on May 18, 1974 he was united
in marriage to Judith H. Harvell.
He was employed as a promotional director for Fabic Caterpillar and more
recently as manager for both Jaccard’s and Goodman Jewelers. After retirement
he enjoyed the country life at Anthonies Mill where he liked boating and
especially fishing. He was described as a laid back, easy going guy who liked
to work with his hands. He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his wife of the home; three sons, John F. Scott and wife
Coeli of St. Louis, Missouri, Mark E. Lange of Sullivan, Missouri and
Jeffrey L. Lange and wife Cindy of St. Louis, Missouri; daughter, Leica
Aubuchon of St. Peters, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; one great grandchild;
other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was Sunday, December 2, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the
Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri with Rev. Michael Hardwick and
Rev. Leo Schumaker officiating.
Interment in the I.O.O. F. Memorial Cemetery.
James I. Spurgeon
James I. Spurgeon of Owensville, Missouri was born on Saturday, July 7, 1934
in Oak Hill, Missouri to Omar Spurgeon and Gertrude Howard Spurgeon. He
passed away in his home on Thursday, November 29, 2007 at the age of
73 years, 4 months and 22 days.
Jim married Betty Houseman on July 28, 1956 at the Methodist Church in
Owensville, Missouri and to this union two children were born.
He worked a few years for the Crawford County Road District but mostly
farmed. He raised pigs, planted potatoes and corn. He enjoyed hunting,
fishing and especially trapping for furs. He was known as the mechanic for
the neighborhood.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Ervin
Hendrickson.
He is survived by his wife of the home; children, Rick (Debbie) Spurgeon
and Rhonda (Rick) Grant, all of Cuba, Missouri; brothers, Gene Spurgeon
and Donald (Nancy) Spurgeon, all of Cuba, Missouri; sisters, Ruth Hendrickson
of Owensville, Missouri and Frances (Charlie) Sutter of Nixa, Missouri;
brothers-in-law, Bob (Pat) Houseman of St. Louis, Missouri and Barrett
(Carol) Houseman of Bourbon, Missouri; sister-in-law, Burdette (Donnie)
Lee of Union, Missouri; grandchildren; great grandchildren; nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends.
Visitation was Friday, November 30, 2007 from 5-8 p.m. at the Hutson Funeral
Home, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral service was Saturday, December 1, 2007 at
11 a.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri with Rev. Leo Robertson
officiating.
Burial was in the Gibson Cemetery, Owensville, Missouri.
Pallbearers were Jim, Daniel and Mike Reed, Tom Campbell, Stanley Jost and
Josh Brown.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba,
Missouri.
Joseph Clive Troutt
Joseph “Clive” Troutt was born July 12, 1921 at Forest Hill, Missouri, the
son of Erb and Gertrude (Koehn) Troutt. He passed away Monday,
November 26, 2007 at Gibbs Care Center in Steelville, Missouri.
On January 29, 1949 he was united in marriage to Doris Eaton Troutt.
Clive served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946 attached to the 7th Air Force
serving in the Philippines. He was a long time farmer and enjoyed buying and
selling real estate as a sideline. He was a member of the First Baptist Church
of Bourbon, Missouri and had attended the First Assembly of God Church in
Steelville, Missouri. He had been president of the National Farmers
Organization in Steelville for many years. He was on the Board of Directors
for nine years when consolidating the Cherryville and Viburnum school
districts and instrumental in attaining the Quad County Fire Protection
District. He was a member of the American Legion at Bourbon, Missouri. He
was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law, Homer Allison.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years; three sons, Joe Troutt and wife Kathy
of St. James, Missouri, Jon Troutt and wife Karen and Vick Troutt and wife
Loretta, all of Steelville, Missouri; three daughters, Judy Bell of Cherry-
ville, Missouri, Janet West and husband Steve and Nancy Halbert and husband
Draton, all of Steelville, Missouri; two sisters, Ethel Allison of Cuba,
Missouri and Helen Higgins and husband Leland of Leasburg, Missouri; nine
grandchildren, Kimberly and husband Jeff McMillen, Chris and wife Robin
Troutt, Laura and husband Preston Turner, Jonny and wife Tiffany Troutt,
Jason Troutt, Justin Troutt, Susan and husband John Bunch, Peggy and husband
Jon Adams and Lucas Halbert; two step grandchildren, Jason and wife Debby
West and Drew and wife Erin West; 15 great grandchildren; one great great
grandchild; other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at the
First Assembly of God Church in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Jerry Beers
and Rev. Larry Allison officiating.
Special music of “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Amazing Grace” were sung by
Rev. Jerry Beers. Special memories were shared by Judy Bell.
Serving as casketbearers were Joe Troutt, Judy Bell, Vick Troutt, Jon Troutt,
Janet West and Nancy Halbert. Committal prayer, military honors and burial
were in the Crossroads Cemetery at Leasburg, Missouri
Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri.
