Carol married Perle E. "Butch" Avery Jr. on Saturday, April 22, 1967 at Cantwell, Missouri. Carol retired in 2009 after working 13 years for Walmart in Sullivan, Missouri. She worked seven years in the jewelry department and six years in the clothing department. Prior to Walmart, Carol worked in housekeeping for several different hotels. Carol spent many hours playing Sudoku, working crossword puzzles and putting puzzles together. She enjoyed beautiful flowerbeds and gardens and fishing when she was younger. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Bettie Wells; daughter, Tracy Weber; in-laws, Perle and Virginia Avery; sisters-in-law, Linda and husband Cork Collier and Fern Bryant; and brother-in-law, Mike Dildine. Bob was employed by Essex Wire as a Chemical Engineer and also worked as a Metalurgist at Diversified Metals. He served as a Merchant Marine for a number of years. He was quite diversified and was a cattle rancher as well as a competitive gymnast. Stephen "Steve" Ralph Brendel Stephan "Steve" Ralph Brendel of Bourbon, Missouri was born on November 23, 1958 to Francis and Mary Dorothy (Page) Brendel in Rolla, Missouri and passed away Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the age of 58 years. As a child, Steve was full of fun and mischief. Much like his father Francis, Steve could fix anything. At age 19, Steve joined the United States Army and served his country from 1977 to 1980. While serving, he took an extended leave, touring Europe and helping his troops out of "big trouble." He then ran the family business, Brendel Sheet Metal and also worked for the Sullivan Special Road District and Mid-West Industries for many years. Steve enjoyed time spent hunting, fishing and being outdoors. The whole family enjoyed the many stories he had to tell of his great adventures. Betty married Clyde Dunlap in April of 1949. After his passing she married Jesse "Jay" Garms in July of 2004. Betty worked several years at Brown Shoe Company in Steelville, Missouri but retired early due to her health. She was a faithful member of the Steelville Assembly of God Church for many years. Betty loved to bake different foods for her family especially during the holidays whether it was fudge, chess pies or graham cracker pies. She also spent many hours sewing for herself and family. She was raised in Lawton. Oklahoma and lived there for many years; relocating to Sullivan, Missouri in 1993. While living in Lawton, Laura was employed by Charley's Drive Inn for approximately 25 years and she also worked in childcare. In Sullivan, Missouri Laura worked at Comfort Inn. On January 12, 1972 Laura married Robert Robinson. To this union, two children were born, Christina and Robert. On June 10, 1994, Laura married Jack Holmes. Laura was very competitive and loved game night. She loved to dance, play Dominos and Bingo, especially with her mom, and sewing. Irene Elizabeth King Irene Elizabeth King of Cuba, Missouri, formerly of Leasburg, Missouri was born Wednesday, August 20, 1924 at Ashley, Illinois to Frederick and Clara (nee Doerfling) Sachmann and passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the age of 93 years. Irene married Wilbur King on July 1, 1950 at St. Louis, Missouri. Irene retired in 1984 from Ramsey Corporation after 17 years of dedicated service as an inspector. Irene was a devout member of the Cross Roads Baptist Church of Leasburg, Missouri for many years before her health began declining. Every spring they would plant a big garden and she would spend hours canning what they raised. She was always helping others by delivering Meals on Wheels and she was part of the Benevolence Ministry of Leasburg, Missouri. After raising a large family, Irene enjoyed traveling with her husband. Irene enjoyed her cats and dogs and was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. The Landers family moved to Sullivan, Missouri when Jerry was young and still in school. He married Carol Dill on November 15, 1958 and they were blessed with 59 years of marriage. Jerry was employed by Meramec Mining Company for 15 years, co-owned and operated M and J Service with Mike Door and 10 years at Industrial Wire Products. He was known as "Mr. Fix It" and could make anything out of nothing. He built a cabin with electric for his grandkids, whom he adored, and built a go-cart from scratch. Jerry also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Jerry was a Christian and attended Sullivan Family Worship Center. He was preceded in death by his son, Greg Landers; his parents, Ellis and Ida (Downing) Landers; and one brother, Wayne Landers. Debra Jean "Debbie" Middleton Debra Jean "Debbie" Middleton of Cuba was born Wednesday, July 2, 1969 at St. Louis, Missouri to Kenneth and Rosemary (nee Wells) Collins and passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the age of 48 years. She loved to spoil her two grandchildren and her fur baby Trip Middleton. For a couple of years, Debbie worked at Cuba Manor in the kitchen. She truly loved the residents. Debbie would drink coffee every day and watch scary movies and shows on TV. For entertainment she would watch Jerry Springer. She always enjoyed trips to the thrift store and Lottery scratcher tickets. On April 7, 2014 Debbie started her battle with cancer. She took hundreds of rounds of chemo and radiation. She never stopped wanting to live and fought with every ounce of courage that she had. She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Collins. Judy Polston Judy Polston of St. Clair, Missouri was born in Richwoods, Missouri on July 17, 1947 to Clyde and Alberta Vira Almo (nee Armbruster) and passed away on November 18, 2017 at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 1 day. As a young woman she was blessed to have two children. Judy was a Christian, believing in the Lord as her Savior. During her working career she was employed as a housekeeper at Best Western Motel for about 20 years. In her younger years she enjoyed riding horses. She also loved to go camping and have cookouts, especially with family. What meant most to her was time spent with family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Alberta Almo; and two brothers, Harold and Johnny Almo. She is survived by her children, Mike Marcee and wife Heather of Lonedell, Missouri and Rhonda Winkle and husband Dennis of Festus, Missouri; four grandchildren, Amber Woodcock of Bourbon, Missouri, Lauren Quesenberry of DeSoto, Missouri and Krista and Nikki Bostick of Bourbon, Missouri; one brother, Rev. Marvin Newburg Roark Marvin Newburg Roark of Owensville, Missouri was born in St. James on April 30, 1948, to Raymond and Beatrice (Hicks) Roark and passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the age of 69 years. On January 28, 1968 in Owensville, Missouri he married Irma Jean Limberg. He was a logger by trade and also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Beatrice Roark; and brothers, Charles, Faron and Roger Roark. James Michael "Mike" Sanders James Michael "Mike" Sanders was born on Monday, January 22, 1951 in Steelville, Missouri to James Herkley and Delores Helen (Nagle) Sanders and passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the age of 66 years, 10 months and 7 days. Mike was never employed, however he did various odd jobs helping out friends around town. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Steelville Country Club and Steelville Optimist Club. Mike never met a stranger. He walked up and down the street telling stories and rhymes to make people laugh. Mike helped former City Marshall Jim Decker by emptying the parking meters for years; he later helped Alfred and Margaret Beers at their restaurants, as well as attending various outings with Alfred and friends. Mike enjoyed the rodeo, drinking coffee with friends at the restaurant and keeping family filled in on the happenings and latest gossip in town. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Delores Sanders; grandparents; aunts and uncles. Ella Marie Smith Ella Marie Smith (nee Rodgers) of St. Louis, Missouri, formerly of Steelville, Missouri, was born July 12, 1916 in Daisy, Arkansas to Lewis and Daisy Henry Rodgers and passed away Monday, November 27, 2017 at the age of 101 years, 4 months and 15 days. On October 16, 1930 in New Hope, Arkansas she married Luther Smith. After living in Arkansas for almost eight years, she and Luther moved to St. Louis, Missouri where he went to work at Cole Pharmaceuticals Co. and Ella worked at Eden Publishing House. In 1969 they retired and moved to Steelville, Missouri. They became dedicated volunteers in the community volunteering at Golden Echoes and Gibbs Care Center and were active members at the First Baptist Church. After moving back to St. Louis, Missouri she became a member of the Fee Fee Baptist Church. Ella was also involved in the Order of Eastern Star and was a past Worthy Matron. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Daisy Rodgers; her husband, Luther Smith; two sons, Don Smith and Charles Darwin Smith; one daughter, Betty Castelli; three brothers, Lake Rodgers, L.J. Rodgers and Booker Rodgers; and one sister, Gladys Holcombe. She is survived by one son, Harry Smith of Normandy, Missouri; one sister, Pearlean Johnson; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Marie Mabel Thurman Marie Mabel Thurman of St. James, Missouri was born July 1, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri to Clarence and Mabel Breese Sexton and passed away Saturday November 25, 2017 at the age of 96 years. On June 7, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri she married James M Thurman. Marie had a joyful spirit, she always had a smile. She was raised in St. Louis during the depression. Her grandfather was a Baptist Minister, but her parents never went to church, except for weddings and events. Her son and daughter-in-law always took her to church at First Assembly in Rolla, Missouri where she became a member. During the war, she worked as a riveter and it was in that job that she met her husband Jim. Marie had a caring heart, besides raising Dan, Marie and Jim also raised two girls when her sister died. Marie was a widowed for over 22 years. They operated a gas station in Bourbon, Missouri for many years before moving to Rolla, Missouri. Marie moved to St. James, Missouri after Jim passed away and attended the First Assembly of God in Rolla, Missouri when her health permitted. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mabel Sexton; her husband, James on November 9, 1995; one brother, John Sexton; and a sister, Viola Nash. She is survived by her son, Danial Neill and wife Doris of Rolla, Missouri; sister-in-law, Barbara Sexton of Rolla, Missouri; two grandchildren, Michael P. Neill and David Neill; two great- grandchildren, Nathan and Michael; other relatives and friends. Allie was a long time resident of the Rolla Apartments, where she made a lot of friends. She enjoyed putting together puzzles, doing crosswords and was always shopping for a good deal, whether it was shopping at a store or her favorite, a yard sale. She will be remembered as a people person, as she never met a stranger and would carry on conversations with anyone who would listen. She was always trying to take care of everyone. She was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Augusta Johns; one infant son, Mark; and her twin sister, Jessie Wanetta.
