Steelville Star-Crawford Mirror, Steelville, Crawford Co. MO Local Obituaries for the Week of December 7, 2000 Corinne R. Bandy Corinne R. Bandy of Leslie, Missouri passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2000 at the age of 95 years. Corinne was born on April 3, 1905 to the late William Andrew and Sophia Emmiline (Goyer) Reed near Bourbon, Missouri. She was raised and attended school in the Bourbon area, and in August 1930 was married to William Joseph Jones. Mr. Jones preceded Corinne in death on August 8, 1955 after 25 years of marriage. In August of 1959 Corinne was married to John C. Bandy, who also preceded her in death in 1967. Mrs. Bandy was a very active member of the Sullivan and Leslie communities, and found pleasure in participating in lodge work. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star #105 of Sullivan, past Noble Grand of Rebekah Lodge Sullivan Chapter #319, member of the Spring Bluff Unique Club and a faithful member of the United Methodist Church of Leslie. Corinne wrote two columns for the Sullivan Independent News: "Random Thoughts" and "Echoes from Evergreen." She was employed by several area businesses, including the former Carps Department Store and Meramec Caverns. Corinne enjoyed quilting with the Rebekah's in addition to her many other activities. The joy of her life, however, came from the family she loved so dearly. She will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She is survived by one son, Paul H. Jones and wife Joan, of Benton, Kentucky; one daughter, Jackie Donner and husband, Ronald, of Northfield, Minnesota; four stepsons, George Bandy, Clinton Bandy and wife Carol, and Joe Bandy and wife Beverly, all of Leslie, Missouri, and Ralph Bandy and wife Julia, of Union, Missouri; two stepdaughters, Helen Gumpenberger and Hazel Joers and husband Ray, all of Gerald, Missouri. Thirteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Along with those previously mentioned, Mrs. Bandy was preceded in death by three brothers, Alvie, Arthur and Don Reed, and two sisters, Lucinda Reed and Celesta George. Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2000 from the Chapel of the Hassebroek Funeral Home in Sullivan with Rev. Leonard Krudop officiating. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Leslie Building Fund, c/o Pastor Leonard Krudop in memory of Corinne R. Bandy. Wayne Albert Branson Wayne Albert Branson of Cuba, Missouri was born on August 23, 1906 at Jakes Prairie, Missouri to the union of Thomas Jefferson Branson and Mary Branson nee Spurgeon and passed away on November 26, 2000 at Steelville, Missouri at the age of 94 years 2 months and 3 days. On March 23, 1933 Wayne was united in marriage to Olga Grubb at Steelville, Missouri. They were happily married until Olga preceded Wayne in death on February 3, 1990. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sons, infant son Dale Gene Branson and Donald Branson, two brothers Bill and Arvil Branson and one sister Lillian Sorrell. Wayne was a long time resident of Crawford County and farmed all his life. He was a faithful member of the Cuba First Baptist Church, Cuba, Missouri. Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his two sons Leo Branson and wife Diane and Gary Branson and wife Ann; daughter-in-law Ruth Branson; six grandchildren Dale and Penny Branson, David Branson, Richard and Dawn Roberts, Shannon and Debra Radford, Jeffery Branson and Vickie Branson; nine great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews; other relatives and many friends. Wayne was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed. Wayne Albert Branson was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri where funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 29, 2000 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Devin Haus officiating. Interment was in the Licklider Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri. Normal E. Gibson Normal E. "Turk" Gibson of Cuba, Missouri was born on February 2, 1920 at Huzzah, Missouri to the union of Isaac D. Gibson and Eva Gibson nee Bay and passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri on November 30, 2000 at the age of 80 years 9 months and 28 days. On December 6, 1947 Turk was united in marriage to Marie Downes. One son, Tom, was born to this union. Turk and Marie have been happily married for 52 years. Turk was preceded in death by his parents, son Tom Gibson, and two brothers Delmon and Elmon Martin. He and Marie retired from their jobs in St. Louis, Missouri to Cuba, Missouri approximately 12 years ago and have made their home in Cuba since that time. Turk was a member of the Ferguson Masonic Lodge No. 542, Member of the Carpenters Local No. 185, Member of the Cuba United Methodist Church and an active supporter of the Cuba Senior Center. Turk had a great love and talent for gospel music. He sang for many years with the "Journeyman Quartet". Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his devoted wife Marie Gibson; two sisters Viola Allen and Mary Phelps & husband Glenwood; one sister-in-law Doris Rohrer; two brothers-in-law Ervin Downes and Quentin Rohrer; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends. Turk was a devoted husband, loving brother, uncle, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed. Normal E. "Turk" Gibson was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri where Masonic Services were held on Friday, December 1, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, December 2, 2000 at 1 p.m. at the Cuba United Methodist Church, Cuba, Missouri with Rev. Mike Hannah officiating. Interment was in the Shoal Creek Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Memorials to the Shoal Creek Cemetery, or Cuba United Methodist Church or Cuba Senior Center. All arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri. Dorothy Mathews Dorothy Mathews, daughter of the late Francis McCollough and Martha Hattie Sheehy McCollough, was born April 17, 1926 at Dexter and died at her residence in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 74. Mrs. Mathews was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. On November 23, 1943, she was united in marriage to David F. Pullam at Piggott, Arkansas. He preceded her in death in May of 1976. She was then united in marriage to Lilmon Bud Mathews on March 30, 1981 at Las Vegas, Nevada. He preceded her in death on August 17, 1998. Survivors include two sons David F. Pullam Jr., of Cuba, and Michael Pullam of Dexter, Missouri; two daughters Gwendolyn Froeschner of Columbia, Missouri and Anita Edgar of Cuba. One step-daughter Donna Lewis of Cuba; three brothers Howard McCollough of Dudley, John F. McCollough and Kenneth McCollough Sr.; one sister Ruth McCollough all of Dexter. Seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence "Bud" McCollough, Alfred McCollough and one sister Joy Agnes McCollough. Visitation was at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri from 5-8 p.m., Sunday, November 19, 2000. Funeral services were conducted at the Rainey Funeral Chapel at 1 p.m. Monday, November 20, 2000. Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter, Missouri with Rainey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Rose Mary Turnbough Rose Mary Turnbough (nee Downs) was born Tuesday, June 7, 1927 at Elvins, Mo., a daughter of the late Roy Downs and Myrtle (Fingers) Downs. She entered eternal rest Wednesday, November 22, 2000, in the Fountain Blue Nursing Center, Festus, Mo., at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 15 days. On June 7, 1944, at Tower Grove Baptist Church, St. Louis, Mo., Rose was united in marriage to Elvin James 'Al' Turnbough. Four sons and two daughters were born to this union. They were sixteen when they were married and enjoyed over fifty-two years together before his death, July 22, 1996. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her daughter, Linda and husband Al Melchior of Festus, Mo.; two sons, Bruce 'Huck' Turnbough and wife Brenda, John Turnbough and wife Tracy, all of DeSoto, Mo., daughter-in-law Jackie of St. Charles, Mo. Four sisters, Lucille McIntyre, Wanda and husband Ernie Devoti, Millie Scronce, and Peggy, husband Ray Durrance, all of Florida. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Hazel and John Kozlowski of Texas, Betty and Ken Schenck of Scottsdale, Arizona, Sarah Kuntz of Viburnum, Mo., Anthony Jackson of St. Charles, Mo.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents and Al, Rose was preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce Turnbough; two sons, Elvin James Turnbough, Jr., and Richard Edmond Turnbough; one sister Ruth Boly; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Carl Boly, Mac McIntyre, Robert Kuntz, Brenda Jackson, Glenwood Turnbough and William "Bill" Turnbough. Rose Mary Turnbough lay in state after 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 24, 2000, at the Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 24, 2000, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Glenn and Shirley Gowen officiating. Committal prayers and interment were in Czar Cemetery, Viburnum, Mo. Honoring their grandmother as pallbearers were Jesse Kerby, Al Melchior, Nik Melchior.
