MO Local Obituaries for the Week of December 14, 2000 James Loyd Dobkins James Loyd Dobkins was born Wednesday, December 11, 1935, in Sullivan, Missouri, a son to the late Theodore Earnest Dobkins and Lula Ann Dobkins (nee Enloe). He entered eternal rest Thursday, November 30,2000, at his home on Liberty Road east of Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 64 years, 11 months and 19 days. On February 18, 1960, Jim was united in marriage to Sharon Center, daughter of Virgil Center and the late Madge Center. Three sons were born to this union. Jim was a master craftsman, welder and machinist. One of his latest projects was the fabrication of eighty Christmas trees that adorn Steelville during the Christmas season. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife Sharon of the home in Steelville; three sons, James D. (Jim) Dobkins and wife Shelley of Marshfield, Missouri; Steven M. Dobkins and wife Sue of Cassville, Missouri; and William D. (Bill) Dobkins and fiancee Beverly Terry of Portland, Oregon. Four brothers and two sisters, Betty June Lopez of Kansas, Walter Dobkins and wife JoAnna of Hanna, Wyoming, Paul E. Dobkins and wife Virginia of Laramia, Wyoming, Bill J. Dobkins and wife Lavern of Rolla, Missouri, Patricia Ann and husband Stanley Brown of Kooi, Wyoming, Lawrence (Skip) Dobkins and wife Rita of Steelville, Missouri; father-in-law, Virgil Center also of Steelville, Missouri. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, David and Virginia Center also of Steelville, Shirley and Sonny Peterson of Casper, Wyoming; two grandchildren Chelsea and Tyler Dobkins, three step-grandchildren, Becky Bishop and Mary and John Corlett, one step-great-grandson Bailey Corlett; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death, by his mother-in-law, Madge Center and one brother-in-law, Joe Lopez. James Loyd Dobkins lay in state 4-8 p.m. Sunday, December 3, 2000, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, December 4, 2000, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Alan Miles officiating. Special music was provided by Kaycee and Kenny Cain. Committal prayers and interment were in Dobkins-Lambert Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Jim Dobkins, Steve Dobkins, Bill Dobkins, Dave Center, Alan R. Grayson and Pete Righter. A twenty-one gun black powder salute was given at the graveside by the local Loggers Militia. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Dollie Irene Meade Dollie Irene Meade of Cuba, Missouri was born on October 24, 1912 in Bussey, Iowa to the union of Andrew D. McGee and Margaret E. McGee nee Jones and passed away at the Missouri Baptist Hospital Sullivan, Missouri on December 5, 2000 at the age of 88 years 1 month and 11 days. In November 1930 Dollie was united in marriage to Earl Meade, and was happily married until his death. Dollie was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter Doris Elaine Meade; parents; eight brothers and sisters; sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws. She was a member of the Church of God in Cuba, Missouri. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her three sons, Orville A. Meade and wife Josie; Willard L. Meade; Frank L. Meade; two daughters, Alice M. Mendoza and husband Robert; Ethel I. Belmar and husband Willard; one sister Thelma Groenendyke. Twenty-two grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Dollie was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, sister, aunt, and good friend to all that knew her and will be sadly missed. Dollie Irene Meade was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri, Wednesday, December 6, 2000 and Thursday, December 7, 2000. Funeral Services were held on Friday, December 8, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Larry Buttner officiating. Interment was in the Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. All arrangements under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. David George Mullen David George Mullen was born July 11, 1947 in St. James, Phelps Co., MO. One of fifteen children born to Patrick W. and Laveta M. (Burdett) Mullen. He passed away 3 PM, Friday, December 1, 2000 at the VA Hospital in St. Louis, MO, age 53 yrs 5 mo 20 dy, from cancer. David was affectionately known as "Wolf Man" to his numerous friends. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Pacific, MO. He had a wonderful gift for telling the most outlandish tales, to the utter amusement of his younger family members. He always lived his life to the fullest. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers - William L., Edwin D. and James P. Mullen; and two sisters - Bessie E. and Penny A. Mullen. He leaves to mourn his passing: five brothers and four sisters - Kenneth L. Mullen of Phoenix, AZ; Patricia J. Spurlin of Sun Valley, NV; Mary C. Ziola, Lawrence A. Mullen, Sr., and Beverly S. Stuteville of Independence, MO; Charles L. Mullen, Sr. of Lake Annette, MO; Michael P. Mullen, Sr. of Reading, PA; Rodney K. A. Mullen of Springfield, MO; and Donna L. Ishmael of Homer, AK; his daughter Cheryl L. (Weber) Kowalski and grandson Corey B. Bunetic, of Cuba, MO; and his sons Randy S. Weber and grandchildren of Cuba, MO; and William "Mark" Mullen of St. Louis, MO. He also leaves brothers and sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews, other family members, plus a host of friends to mourn his passing. David will be dearly and fondly missed by all. Cremation was carried out at the St. Louis Creamatorium, St. Louis, MO. John Henry Murphy John Henry Murphy of Cuba, Missouri was born on December 3, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri to the union of John H. Murphy and Olive Murphy nee Hamilton and passed away at Phelps County Regional Medical Center Rolla, Missouri on December 4, 2000 at the age of 71 years and 1 day. On November 6, 1953 John was united in marriage to Jacqueline Bratcher. They have been happily married for 47 years. John was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Eugene Murphy. He was a member of the American Legion Post of Cuba, the VFW in Sullivan, and a member of the teamsters union 682. John joined the United States Marine Corps in 1948 and served his contry until he was honorably discharged in 1952. Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving wife Jackie Murphy; three sons Kenneth Murphy and wife Mary; Patrick Murphy; Daniel Murphy and wife Nina; one daughter Katherine Ames and husband John. One sister Joan Groenda and husband Hart; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, December 6, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the Britton Chapel with Father I.C. Medina officiating. Interment was in the Hamilton Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. Melba Offield Melba Offield (nee Whalen) was born April 3, 1933 in Steelville, Missouri to the late Earl and Charlotte (nee Graham) Whalen and passed away at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2000 at Lamb Healthcare Center in Littlefield, Texas at the age of 67 years, 7 months and 11 days. Melba was raised and attended school in the Steelville area. She married Dudley Offield on June 29, 1951 in Clovis, New Mexico. They moved to Littlefield, Texas later that year and have lived there since that time. Melba's life work was in the care of her home and her family. Her hobbies were gardening and raising flowers. Melba was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Loretta Whalen and Earline Young and one brother, Danny Whalen. She is survived by her devoted husband of the home, Dudley Offield, one daughter, Debra and husband Ray McKinney of Littlefield, Texas, two sons, Teddy Offield and Monte Offield of Littlefield, Texas. Five brothers, Ernest and wife Evelyn of Amarillo, Texas, Gary and wife Charlotte of Madison, Alabama, Raymond and wife Joan of Gurley, Alabama and Roger of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Pat and wife Patricia from Elpaso, Texas. Four sisters, Anges Sanders and husband Walter (Bud) of Mesa, Arizona, Patricia Whalen of Santa Monica, California, Sue Ross and husband Bill of Pueblo, Colorado, and Ellen Craig and husband Wendell of Amarillo, Texas, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2000 at the Hammons Funeral Chapel in Littlefield, Texas with burial in the Littlefield Memorial Park in Littlefield, Texas with Walter (Bud) Sanders officiating. Casketbearers were Artie Offield, Artis Conner, Travis Grimes, Randall Offield, Gaylon Conner, Weige Whalen and Joe Smith. All arrangements were under the direction of the Hammons Funeral Home in Littlefield, Texas. Raymond Roso Raymond Roso was born in St. James, Missouri on February 10, 1925 and passed away on Monday, November 27, 2000, in Maryville, Illinois, at the age of 75 years. On October 4, 1947 Raymond was married to Margaret Augustine. She survives. Also surviving are two sons and one daughter, Dennis Roso of Cuba, Missouri; Kenneth Roso of Carlyle, Illinois; and Raeann Gallaher of Indianapolis, Indiana. Sisters Dorothy Zulpo and Sadie Krewson, both of St. James; Corine Henry of Newburg, Missouri; Frances Skyles and Emma Liklider, both of Cuba; and Irene Jones of Jerome, Missouri. Six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Preceding Mr. Roso in death were his parents, two brothers and two sisters. A Memorial Mass was held at St. Anthony's in Rosati, Missouri.
