MO Local Obituaries for the Week updated December 14, 2006 Steve Bell Steve Darrell Bell of Cherryville, Missouri was born in Waynesville, Missouri on Wednesday, September 30, 1953 to James Ernest Bell and Mabel Murry Bell. He passed away at his home on Friday, December 1, 2006 at the age of 53 years, 2 months and 1 day. Steve worked for several years, as an auto body technician at Bommarito in St. Louis, Missouri then later was self-employed in car restoration and auto body. He had a passion for playing the guitar, especially bluegrass music. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time on the computer, but most of all he adored his grandson, Ian. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bonnie Bowman and brother-in-law, Tom Roberson. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his son, Jesse Bell and wife Amy of Sullivan, Missouri; grandson, Ian Bell; brothers, Bill Bell and wife Juanita of Steelville, Missouri, Don Bell of wife Pauline of Watonga, Oklahoma; sisters, Sue Bell of Cherryville, Missouri and Martha Roberson of Richmond Heights, Missouri; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Visitation was Tuesday, December 5, 2006 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville Missouri with Rev. Delmar Hutson officiating. Burial was at the Martin-Trask Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri with pallbearers, Randy Bell, Denise Bowman, Mike Roberson, Roger Stringer, Josh Vandegriff and Paul Wilkerson. Honorary pallbearers were David Bell and Jerry Hardin. All arrangements were under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Ben G. Capshaw Ben G. Capshaw, 83, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri passed away November 17, 2006, at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Capshaw, born in Chaffee, Missouri, was married in 1947 to Peggy Ann Wilkinson of Cuba, Missouri, who passed away in 1997. The couple resided in Cuba, Missouri from 1947 to 1958, while he owned and managed the Standard Oil Station on Route 66. Capshaw is survived by his only child, Cate (Nick) Sanazaro, and three grandchildren, Andrea, Caroline, and Christopher Macier, all of Cuba, Missouri. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3838, American Legion Post 63, Lions Club, St. Mark’s Masonic Lodge, and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Capshaw was entombed in the Memorial Park Mausoleum November 20, 2006 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, following a memorial service with military graveside rites by the Missouri Honors Team. Steven L. Howard Steven Laverial Howard of Jonesboro, Arkansas, was born on Wednesday, May 27, 1964 to David L. Howard and Mary Moore Howard in Paragould, Arkansas. He passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2006 at the age of 42 years, 5 months and 30 days. Steven attended school in Arkansas except for fifth and sixth grade in Steelville, Missouri, then moved back to Arkansas until he was 16. He later returned to Steelville for a while and eventually again moved back to Arkansas where he lived until his death. He worked as a carpenter for several years and also loved the outdoors. He was somewhat of a free spirit and tended to do thing his way. He attended the Pentecostal Church as a child and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Steelville, Missouri. He married Kelly Garrison on February 27, 1982 and to this union three sons were born. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his sons, Josh Howard and companion Theresa Wilkerson of Steelville, Missouri, Chris Howard and companion Bridget Collins of Sullivan, Missouri and Jimmie Howard and companion Sara Hawkins and Tyson the dog of Sullivan, Missouri; step daughter, Kaitlyn Garrison. Grandchildren, Joshua of Steelville, Missouri and Alexis of Sullivan, Missouri; four brothers and nine sisters; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Memorial service was Sunday, December 10, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Music selections “Amazing Grace” and “Home at Last” were sung by Ella Jo Greenwalt and Lena Medley. All arrangements were under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Belva “Belle” W. Lewis Belva “Belle” Winifred Lewis, 85, of Steelville, Missouri, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2006 at St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri. Belle was united in marriage to Clarence “Jack” Lewis on October 31, 1947 in Steelville, Missouri and to this union one son and two daughters were born. Belle enjoyed sewing and was proud of the many shirts she made for Jack. She also was a collector and fan of the Betty Boop dolls. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Steelville, Missouri. She loved to tour the country on a motorcycle with Jack and flying in a gyrocopter. She especially liked to fly…even her last moments were in the helicopter going to the hospital. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Lisa Marie; two sisters, Agnes Sanders and Dorothy McCoy. Those who mourn her passing are her husband, Jack; one son, Larry Lewis and wife Barbara of Steelville, Missouri; two daughters, Jean Beasley of Steelville, Missouri and Ruth Ann Stulce and husband Ronald of Steelville, Missouri. Five grandchildren, Daniel Lewis, Michael Reed, Regina Hardster, Patrick Smith and Gail Cape; eight great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. The family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, Missouri. Dolores Ann Pace Dolores Ann “Dolly” Pace of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of Robert C. and Amelia E. (Pokorski) Maxwell on October 29, 1929 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and passed away December 8, 2006 in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 77 years, 1 month and 9 days. She was united marriage to Lyle Wallace Pace on June 10, 1950 in Creve Couer, Missouri and to this union four children were born Daniel, Rex, Gwen and Laurie. Dolly was a homemaker and attended Injoy Christian Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and adored her dog, Duke. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert C. and Amelia E. (Pokorski) Maxwell. Those who are left to mourn her passing are her loving husband of 50 years, Lyle Wallace Pace of Cuba, Missouri; two sons, Daniel L (Nancy) Pace of Ballwin, Missouri and Rex Allan (Sami) Pace of Labadie, Missouri; two daughters, Gwen (Roland) Woodard of Norfolk, Virginia and Laurie Jane (Bruce) Setter of Cuba, Missouri; one sister, Marjori (Ken) Warman of Claremore, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren, one great grandchild; other relatives and friends. Patricia Dianne Patterson Patricia Dianne Patterson was born November 22, 1955 in Bonne Terre, Missouri and passed away December 4, 2006 at her home in Elsberry, Missouri. She earned a certificate as a licensed practical nurse from Sanford Brown College and was employed at Barnes Downtown St. Louis, Missouri, a floor nurse at Barnes St. Peters Hospital and a staff nurse at Lincoln County Medical Center, Troy, Missouri. She was a talented person and will be missed by family and friends. She is survived by her parents, Joyce Lowe Hartupee and James E. Hartupee of Cuba, Missouri. Memorial services were held at 7 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2006 at the Carter-Ricks Funeral Home, Elsberry, Missouri. Kenneth F. Smith Kenneth F. Smith, 66, resident of Cuba, Missouri, formerly of Festus, Missouri, passed away December 4, 2006 in Shawnee, Kansas. He is survived by his daughters, Melissa Lawson of Shawnee, Kansas and Jennifer Emmerth of Ozark, Missouri; three grandchildren, Landon, Logan and Laine Emmerth; brothers, Gary of Steelville, Missouri and Donald of Festus, Missouri; sister, Sandra, of Festus, Missouri. James Woodrow “Woody” Walker James Woodrow “Woody’ Walker, 88, of Steelville, Missouri passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at the Gibbs Care Center in Steelville, Missouri. He was born Thursday, June 28, 1918 in Steelville, Missouri, the son of the late James Arnold and Zula Farrar Walker. He was united in marriage to Edna Viehman on December 20, 1941 in Steelville, Missouri. They had one son, James Edward Walker who died at birth. After 44 years of marriage, Edna preceded James in death on August 11, 1985. James had been employed as a truck driver for 20 years. He loved the country and had a special fondness for horses and mules. He enjoyed being a part of trail rides and being outdoors. He was preceded in death by one sister, Wilma McCoy; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Walker and two brothers-in-law, Fred McCoy and Clyde Dunlap. He is survived by two sisters, Betty Garms and husband Jay of Steelville, Missouri and Fern Campbell and husband Ed of Steelville, Missouri; one brother, Bill Walker of Steelville, Missouri; three nieces, Virginia Frede, Donna James and Debbie Culley; three nephews, Fred McCoy, Kevin Walker and Rick Walker. Funeral services were held Thursday, December 7, 2006 in the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with the Rev. Gene Thrasher and Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Special music of “In the Garden” and “Peace in the Valley” were sung by Kay and Bob Housewright with Jerry Beers accompanying. Committal prayers and burial was in the Liberty Cemetery with Bill Cape, Ed Cape, Darel James, Kevin Walker, Jerry Cook and Jack McCoy serving as casket bearers.
