Betty Jane Atchison
Betty Jane Atchison nee Fields of Steelville, Missouri was born on
Saturday, July 25, 1925 in Steelville, Missouri to James Fields and Bessie
Lahnar Fields. She passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2003 at Gibbs
Care Center, Steelville, Missouri at the age of 78 years, four months and
15 days. Betty was married to Mack Atchison on February 17, 1951 in Salem,
Arkansas. They lived most of their married life in Steelville, Missouri
coming from St. Louis, Missouri. Betty worked a number of years in St.
Louis for Baldor Electric winding electric motors. She and Mack moved to
Steelville. He drove back and forth to St. Louis working in construction
while she stayed on the farm. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers.
She also raised chickens and sold eggs for several years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Mack; two brothers
James Fields and Fristoe Wallace; and mother-in-law Flossie Atchison.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her brother-in-law Ray Atchison
and wife Rose; Aunt Rosie Halbert; and special friend Lois Dicus and
husband Marvin, all of Steelville, Missouri; nieces, nephews, cousins and
many friends. Visitation was Friday, December 12, 2003 from 10 a.m. until the
time of service at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services
were Friday, Decmeber 12, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Chapel, Steelville,
Missouri with Rev. Delmar B. Hutson officiating. Burial in the Steelville
Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. All arrangements under the direction of Hutson
Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Alta Elizabeth Barnes
Alta Elizabeth Barnes (nee Pyatt) was born Friday, April 4, 1924, at St.
Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Jesse Roy Pyatt and Judy Elizabeth
(Harris) Pyatt. She entered eternal life Friday, December 12, 2003, at her
home near Cherryville, Missouri, at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 8 days.
On May 23, 1960 at Poplarville, Mississippi, Alta was united in marriage
to Robert D. Barnes. They have enjoyed over 43 years together.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby
and husband Lucky Mauk; two brothers, Haskell Pyatt and wife Silvia and
Leroy Pyatt; and three brothers-in-law, Tony Duke, Bob Ivory and Pat
English. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted husband,
Robert Barnes of the home; two daughters, Phyllis Harris of Hendersonville,
Tennessee, and Judy Moore and husband Leroy of Fairhope, Alabama; four sisters,
Mary Katherine "Kity" Duke, Geneva "Genny" Ivory and Imogene "Jeanie" English,
both of Fenton, Missouri; one brother, Dwight Pyatt and wife Norma of St. Louis,
Missouri, sister-in-law, Nelda Pyatt of Steelville, Missouri. Three grand-
children, Scott Moore of Fairhope, Alabama, Sherry Mitchem and husband Luke of
Spanish Fort, Alabama and Donna Walsh and husband David of Hendersonville,
Tennessee; six great grandchildren, Patricia and Elizabeth Moore, Sean Mitchem,
Chris, Logan and Michelle Walsh; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and
friends. Alta Elizabeth Barnes laid in state 3-8 p.m. Sunday, December 14, 2003
at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services
were held 10 a.m. Monday, December 15, 2003, in the Britton Chapel with
Rev. Larry Nixon officiating. Committal prayers and interment were in Martin
Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri. Arrangements under the direction of Britton
Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Walter "Pat" H. Enloe
Walter "Pat" Enloe of Cuba, Missouri was born on February 26, 1903 at
Cuba, Missouri to the union of John B. Enloe and Mary Kathryn Plowman
Enloe and passed away on December 11, 2003 at the Missouri Baptist
Hospital, Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 100 years, 9 months and 15
days. On November 23, 1927 Pat was united in marriage to Louise Beyer in
St. Louis, Missouri. Three sons, Alan, Eugene and Gerald and two daughters,
Dorothy and Joyce were born to this union. They were happily married until
Louise preceded him in death on April 17, 1993. Pat was also preceded in
death by his parents, 10 brothers and sisters, one son, Gerald Enloe,
son-in-law Al Higgins, Jr., grandson Randy Keeney and two great grandsons,
Jerod Keeney and Brian Keeney. He was a long time resident of Crawford County
and a member of the Delhi Baptist Church of Cuba, Missouri.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his two sons,
Alan Enloe and wife Betty and Eugene Enloe and wife Vivian; two daughters
Dorothy Benthal and husband Bill and Joyce Lee and husband Jim; 11
grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; other
relatives and friends. Pat was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather,
great grandfather, great great grandfather, good friend to all who knew him
and will be sadly missed. Walter "Pat" Enloe was in state at the Britton
Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri where funeral services were held on Saturday,
December 13, 2003 at 11 a.m. with Rev. James Bruns officiating. Interment was
in the Enloe-Hodge Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. All arrangements were under the
direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Albert Dale Gibbs
Albert Dale Gibbs was born Sunday, March 28, 1937 at Davisville, Missouri,
a son of the late George Huitt Gibbs and the late Minnie Eldora (Harris)
Gibbs. Dale's birth mother, Minnie, passed away when he was 18 months old.
Subsequently, his step-mother, Irene Gibbs, raised him as if he was her
own child. Dale departed this life Sunday, December 7, 2003 at his home in
Davisville, Missouri, at the age of 66 years, 8 months and 9 days.
Dale was united in marriage to Verla Payne on May 19, 1962. Three daughters
were born to this union. They enjoyed over 31 years together, before Verla's
death on July 24, 1993.
Dale honorably served his country on active duty in the United States Air
Force from December 20, 1956 to December 12, 1960. He was later employed
in the lead mining industry and also enjoyed farming. Many described Dale
as a hard worker, a quiet person, and a man that always had a smile on his
face. He was greatly respected by all that knew him.
In addition to his parents, step-mother and wife, Dale was preceded in
death by his father-in-law, Cletis Payne, and his mother-in-law, Lena
Payne; brothers Renick Gibbs and Wayne Gibbs; sisters Argie and husband
Warren Parrett, and Clio Ware; brother-in-laws Loran Willhite and Harold
Payne. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his three devoted
daughters Carmen Watson and husband Mark of Troy, Missouri, Gwen Miller
and husband Chuck of Green Ridge, Missouri, and Camella Cole and husband
Dennis of Davisville, Missouri; brothers Tom Gibbs and wife Phyllis of
Davisville, Missouri, Clarid Gibbs and wife Joyce of Dillard, Missouri,
Ray Halbert and wife Ileen of Cherryville, Missouri, and Don Halbert and
wife Alice of Marion, Illinois. Sisters, Loretta Howdeshell and husband
Cletis of Bourbon, Missouri, Jo Strange and husband Johnnie of Hillsboro,
Missouri, Nellie Willhite of Davisville, Missouri, Margaret Hampton of
Viburnum, Missouri, Shirley Hedrick and husband Delbert of Hermann, Missouri.
Brothers and sisters-in-law Barbara Gibbs of Sulphur Springs, Indiana,
Kenneth Ware of Bixby, Missouri, Dorman Payne of Potosi, Missouri, Karl
Payne and wife Vicki, Norman Payne and wife Cindy, Joy Hedrick and husband
Dave, JoAnn Payne, all of Dillard, Missouri, Judy Turnbough and husband
Jim of Viburnum, Missouri; grandchildren Derek and Ethan Watson, Kristen
and Joseph Miller, and Clayton and Justin Cole; nieces, nephews, cousins,
other relatives and many dear friends.
Albert Dale Gibbs lay in state 4-9 p.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2003, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were
held 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 10, 2003, in the Britton Chapel with
Rev. Paul Davis and Rev. James Burrus officiating. Musical selections were
provided by Rev. Paul Davis, accompanied by Landra Miller. Committal prayers
and interment were in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Dillard, Missouri. Serving
as pallbearers were Clarid Gibbs, Tom Gibbs, Don Halbert, Ray Halbert, Cletis
Howdeshell and Delbert Hedrick. Arrangements under the direction of the Britton
Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Nancy Sue Halbert
Nancy Sue Halbert nee Hinch of Steelville, Missouri, formerly of
Ellisville, Missouri, was born to Edward T. Hinch and Margaret Mullen
Hinch on Thursday, April 23, 1953 in Phelps County, Missouri. She passed
away on Friday, December 5, 2003, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis,
Missouri, the result of a car accident, at the age of 50 years, 7 months
and 12 days.
Nancy graduated from Lafayette High School in 1971 and attended Jewish
Hospital graduating in 1974 with a degree in nursing. Nancy was a former
Crawford County Fair Queen. Nancy was married to Lonnie G. Halbert on
May 1, 1976 in Steelville, Missouri and to this union one son was born.
She was a dedicated Christian and a member of the "Cowboys for Christ"
organization. Her own ministry was "Showpenning for Jesus." She loved horses,
enjoyed showing them and trailriding. She was a 4-H leader for several years
and was active in the Ozark Trail Blazers. Nancy was in nursing over 30 years,
serving as Crawford County Health Nurse for 10 years, and later worked for
Missouri Veterans Hospital. Currently she served as a RN with BJC Health Systems
in West County and a contract nurse for Disabled Citizens Alliance. Nancy was
very compassionate and loved her family. Nancy was preceded in death by her
grandparents Clyde and Helen Hinch, L.D. and Imogene Mullen, father-in-law
Gene Halbert, and brother-in-law John Weber. Those who remain to mourn her
passing are her loving husband Lonnie of the home in Steelville; her son
Justin M. Halbert of Steelville, Missouri; parents Edward T. Hinch and
Margaret Mullen Hinch of Ellisville, Missouri; two brothers Edward (Ted)
Hinch and wife Sharon of Catawissa, Missouri, Mark Hinch and wife Kelly of
Wentzville, Missouri; mother-in-law Maxine Halbert of Steelville, Missouri;
grandparents-in-law Earl and Ada Halbert of Steelville, Missouri.
Brothers and sisters-in-law John and Janice Halbert of Steelville,
Missouri, Charlene and Bill Cooper of St. James, Missouri; nieces,
nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends all who will sadly
miss and fondly remember Nancy Sue Halbert.
Visitation was Sunday, December 7, 2003 from 5-9 p.m. at Hutson Funeral
Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were Monday, December 8, 2003
at 1 p.m. at Steelville First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Alan Franklin
officiating. Rev. Jerry Beers sang "Go Rest High On that Mountain" accompanied
by Darlene Cape on the piano; and a CD of the son "Champion of Love."
Pallbearers were John Halbert, Lance Cottrell, Mark Kreamalmeyer, Gerald
Earhart, Charles Hinch and James Casper. Burial at Halbert Family Cemetery,
near Steelville, Missouri. All arrangements are under the direction of Hutson
Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Eloise Rascher
Eloise Rascher was born August 10, 1910 at St. Louis, Mo. to Gustav and
Merta Benner, and passed away at Gibbs Care Center on November 30, 2003 at
the age of 93 years, 3 months and 20 days.
On November 4, 1933 she was united in marriage to Eugene F. Rascher in St.
Louis, Mo. They were married for 31 years before his death in 1964. Two
sons, Paul and David, were born to this union.
She was preceeded in death by her husband, father and mother, one sister,
and one brother. Eloise is survived by her two sons, Paul (Susan), and David,
four grandchildren, Vicki Martin (Jerry), Eric Rascher, Eugene F. Rascher II,
and Kenneth Rascher and two great grandchildren, Justin and Savannah
Martin. She became a resident at Gibbs Manor in December of 1999, and moved
to the Care Center in 2002. She loved Gibbs and all the staff, and thought of
Gibbs as her second home. Eloise Rascher was in state at Forever Oak Hill at
Pfitzinger Mortuary in Kirkwood, Mo. Tuesday, December 2. The funeral service
was at the mortuary Wednesday, December 3, with her nephew, Reverend Leonard
Rascher of Chicago, Ill. officiating. Interment was at Bethel Cemetery at Labadie.

Betty Lou Swyers
Betty Lou Swyers nee Ogle was born Saturday, October 10, 1925, at
Keysville, Missouri, a daughter of the late Arthur Stafford Ogle and Naomi
Elizabeth (Coleman) Ogle. She departed this life Sunday, December 7, 2003,
at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Sullivan, Missouri, at the age of
78 years, 1 month and 27 days.
On December 13, 1941, at Hillsboro, Missouri, Betty was united in marriage
to Clifford Walter Swyers, son of Marion and Nellie (Mitchell) Swyers.
Five sons were born to this union. They enjoyed over 49 years together,
before his death January 26, 1991.
In addition to her parents and Clifford, Betty was preceded in death by
her oldest son, Clifford Burl Swyers; one grandson, Karl Edward Swyers;
one brother, Lewis Ogle; three sisters, Emily Jean Richardson and husband
Thomas; Alice Marie Burke and husband Arthur, Edna and husband Fred
Schular and a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Among those who
remain to mourn her passing are four sons, Thomas Dee Swyers and wife Sherry
of Steelville, Missouri, Patrick Arthur Swyers of Los Angeles, California,
Marion Neil Swyers and wife Deena of Steelville, Missouri, Rocky Kent Swyers
and wife Teri of Salem, Missouri, daughter-in-law, Linda (Mrs. Clifford) Swyers
of Steelville, Missouri. One brother, Tom Ogle and wife Billie of California;
one sister, Opal and husband Ruban Edgar; 12 grandchildren; 13 great grand-
children; sister-in-law Maude (Mrs. John) Coleman of Steelville, Missouri;
nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends who will fondly
remember her. Betty Lou Swyers lay in state 5-8 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2003,
at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services
were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2003, in the Britton Chapel with Rev.
Doug Massey officiating.Committal prayers and interment were held in the First
Baptist Church Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Bob
Courtney, Bill Edgar, Gary Hinch, Larry Lewis, Allan Swyers and Clifton Swyers.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Missouri.
Donald Zeiss
Donald Zeiss, of Olney, Missouri, formerly of Steelville, Missouri, was
born Wednesday, March 6, 1941 and passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2003
at the age of 62 years, 8 months and 27 days at the Silex Community Care
in Silex, Missouri. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Frank and Margaret
Meyer Zeiss. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant son Donald
Francis Zeiss. He had 15 grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Zeiss; son and daughter-in-law,
Steve and Kim Zeiss; two daughters Donna and husband Ted Palmer, and Lisa
Brown all of Steelville, Missouri. Three stepchildren Pat and wife Jennifer
Vick of Troy, Missouri, Stacey and husband Rich Williams of Cahokia, Illinois,
Michael and wife Belinda Vick of Moscow Mills, Missouri. Brothers and brothers-
in-law Ronald and Carol A. Zeiss, of St. Charles, a sister Mary and Dave Redding,
of Cuba, Missouri, Michael and Carol Zeiss of Silex, Louis and Marilyn Salini
of Creve Coeur, Missouri.Mr. Zeiss was employed as a transport driver for
Wonder Bread Company for 30 years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union #618
and a lifetime member of Steelville Country Club.
Visitation was from 2-9 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2003 at McCoy and Blossom
Funeral Home, Troy, Missouri. A funeral mass was at 9 a.m. Saturday,
December 6, 2003 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Millwood, Missouri with
Father Frank D'Amico officiating. Burial was in St. Alphonsus Cemetery,
Millwood, Missouri. Pallbearers were Matt Zeiss, Ron Zeiss, Jeff Zeiss, Greg
Redding, Justin Palmer and David Zick. Funeral arrangements were under the
direction of McCoy and Blossom Funeral Home.
