Violet Opal Hewkin
Violet Opal Hewkin nee Harris was born Sunday, December 10, 1928, at
Cherryville, Missouri, a daughter of the late James Thomas Harris and
Bessie Jane (Bettorf) Harris. She entered eternal life, at her home,
peacefully in her sleep, Saturday, December 13, 2003, at the age of 75
years, and 3 days.
On May 28, 1949, at Piggot, Arkansas, Violet was united in marriage to
Charles Herman Hewkin, son of the late Opal Leah (Martin) Hewkin and
Clifford John Hewkin. One son and three daughters were born to this union.
They have enjoyed over 54 years together, making their home near
Davisville since 1979.
In addition to her parents, Violet was preceded in death by one sister,
Mildred and husband Cletus Turnbough and brothers-in-law, Vencil Cottrell
and Johnny Eugene Hewkin. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are
her devoted husband, Herman Hewkin of the home; one son, Richard Hewkin and
wife Sharon of Davisville, Missouri; three daughters, Judy and husband Glenwood
Turnbough of Steelville, Missouri, Carolyn Foshee of Davisville, Missouri and
Pam and husband Danny Wallis of Viburnum, Missouri. Two brothers, William
Bernard Harris of St. Charles, Missouri, Thomas Harris and wife Elma of
Viburnum, Missouri, four sisters, Rosa Ina and husband Gilbert Davis, Myrtle
Alline Cottrell, Betty Eugenia and husband James Martin, all of Steelville,
Missouri, and Bonnie Mae Barton of Davisville, Missouri; sister-in-law and
brother-in-law Henry and Marie Bonner of Davisville, Missouri. Twelve grand-
children, Kim Gibbs and husband Jeff, Shelley Barton and husband Tim, Kevin
Hewkin, Glendell Turnbough and wife Lisa, Danny Turnbough and wife Mary,
Jimmy Turnbough, Stephanie Pyatt and husband Ronnie, Melinda Schmitt and
husband Justin, Jessica Conaway and husband Scott, Josh Asher and wife Diona,
Andrew Wallis, and Kaley Wallis; eight great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews,
cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Violet Opal Hewkin laid in state 3-9 p.m. Monday, December 15, 2003, at
the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services
were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2003, in the Britton Chapel with
Rev. Jimmy Dunn and Rev, Stan Collins officiating. Musical selections were
provided by Joy Collins. Committal prayers and interment were in Martin Cemetery,
Cherryville, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Kevin Hewkin, John Asher,
Bob Foshee, Tony Martin, Don Turnbough, and Keith Martin. Arrangements were under
the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Steelville, Missouri.
Daphane E. Janus
Daphane Elizabeth Janus (nee Jones) of Cherryville, Missouri was born on
Sunday, October 12, 1924 in Cherryville, Missouri to Arthur A. Jones and
Eura Sarah Oxendine Jones. She passed away on Monday, December 15, 2003 at
Stonecrest Healthcare in Viburnum, Missouri at the age of 79 years, 2
months and 3 days.
Daphane was married to William Thomas Janus in Potosi, Missouri on
November 29, 1941 and to this union two children were born. She was a
homemaker and lived in Cherryville, Missouri all of her life. She was a
faithful Sunday School teacher for 35 years and was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Cherryville, Missouri. Daphane enjoyed working crossword
puzzles, crocheting, quilting, canning and most of all spending time with her
family. She was preceded in death by her husband William; her parents; and her
brother Arthur "Chick" Jones. Those who remain to mourn her passing are son
Bill Janus and wife Mae of St. Clair, Missouri; daughter Brenda Blair and
husband Bill of Viburnum, Missouri; one brother Earnest Jones of Dittmer,
Missouri; two sisters Ruth Collier and husband Bill of Cherryville, Missouri
and Dollie England and husband Curt of Fenton, Missouri. One sister-in-law
Vera Jones of Cherryville; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren,
two great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends
all who will sadly miss Daphane Janus. Visitation was Wednesday,
December 17, 2003 from 6-9 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were Thursday, December 18, 2003 at 11 a.m. at First
Baptist Church of Cherryville, Missouri with Brother Elmer McElroy and
Brother Paul Coverdell officiating. Pallbearers were: Sonny Eaton, Larry Eaton,
Kevin Jones, John Jones, Les England and Bob England. Burial in the Freeman
Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of
Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Mary "Maxine" McMillen
Mary "Maxine" McMillen (nee Leach) of Steelville, Missouri was born in
Salem, Missouri on Tuesday, April 18, 1922 to Elmer Leach and Florence
Annie Fraser Leach. She passed away on Monday, December 15, 2003 at Gibbs
Care Center, Steelville at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 27 days.
Maxine lived in Steelville, Missouri 54 years coming from St. Louis,
Missouri. Her hobbies were gardening, canning, sewing, quilting, raising
chickens and catfish, but most of all she loved playing the guitar
starting at the age of 11 and played music in bands for 23 years.
She was one of the musicians in the Herk Sanders and Mack Band, and Luci
Martin Band. Also, the gospel band Sonlight consisting of members Kerry
and Debbie Summers, Paul Hutson, Alan Isgigg, Helen Platter and Peggy
Windle. Maxine played guitar at Centerpoint Baptist Church for several
years where she was a member.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lewis R. Ezell; two
brothers, Curtis Leach and Raymond Leach; three sisters Virgie Petty,
Ester McBride and Annie Hoffert. Those who remain to mourn her passing
are her brother William E. Leach and wife Rose of Steelville, Missouri;
special friends Luci Martin and husband Jerry of Steelville, Missouri,
Norma Waller of Cuba, Missouri, Kerry Summers and wife Debbie and family
of Steelville, Missouri; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation was Tuesday, December 16, 2003 from 5-8 p.m. at the Hutson
Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were Wednesday,
December 17, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri
with Rev. Delmar B. Hutson officiating. Pallbearers were: Kerry Summers,
Paul K. Hutson, Allen Isgrig, Jerry Martin, Bruce Bryant, and Rev. Matthew
Cook.Paul Hutson sang, "Look For Me," and "In the Garden." Also Luci Martin
sang and Teri Turnbough played one of Maxine's favorite songs. Burial was
in the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. All arrangements were under
the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Blanche Marie Pyatt
Blanche Marie Pyatt nee Carl was born Wednesday, October 11, 1916, at
Goodwater, Missouri, a daughter of the late Ray B. Carl and Grace Mae Carl
(nee Laramore). She departed this life Saturday, December 13, 2003, at the Cuba
Manor, Cuba, Missouri, at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 2 days.
On December 23, 1933, at Ironton, Missouri, Blanche was united in marriage
to Clyde E. Pyatt. Four sons and four daughters were born to this union.
In addition to her parents, Blanche was preceded in death by her youngest
son Michael Pyatt (died in an auto accident), and one daughter, Helen
Long; two brothers, Reldon Carl and Aaron Carl and wife Etta and one
sister Gerry Carl and two grandchildren, Paul Long and Phillip Green.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are three sons, Clyde Pyatt,
Jr. and wife Sharon, John Pyatt and wife Linda, Ronald Pyatt and wife
Betty, all of Davisville, Missouri; three daughters, Linda and husband
Harold Green of Cherryville, Missouri, Virginia Towner and husband Cliff
of Sharon, Massachusetts, Juna Swyers and husband Harold of St. Charles,
Missouri; one sister, Naomi Gruschka and husband Heinz of Kansas City,
Missouri; sister-in-law, Berniece Carl of Viburnum, Mo. Sixteen grandchildren,
Douglas Swyers, Sharon Toner (Creighton), Bobby Towner, Scott Long, Joyce K.
Pyatt, John Pyatt, Jr., Ronald Pyatt, Jr., Brian Green, Steven Pyatt, Becky
Pyatt (Richardson), Keith Towner, Kevin Green, Wendy Pyatt (McGee), and Jeffery
Pyatt; 12 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative and many
friends. Blanche Marie Pyatt lay in state 1-8 p.m. Monday, December 15, 2003, at
the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held
11 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2003, at the Davisville Assembly of God Church,
Davisville, Missouri with Rev. Dan Hartley and Rev. Gene Thrasher officiating.
Musical selections were provided by pianist Shirley Brown and vocalist Carol
Coleman. Committal prayers and interment were in Davisville Cemetery, Davisville,
Missouri. Honoring their grandmother as pallbearers were Douglas Swyers,
Scott Long, John Pyatt, Jr., Ronald Pyatt, Jr., Brian Green, Steven Pyatt,
Kevin Green, and Jeffery Pyatt. Honorary pallbearers were great grandsons,
Cody Long and Kyle Eaton. Arrangements under the direction of Britton Funeral
Home of Steelville, Missouri.
Margaret Anna Louise Timpe
Margaret Anna Louise Timpe nee Orlowski was born Friday, March 6, 1914, at
Leavenworth, Kansas, a daughter of the late Frederich Orlowski and Anna
(Sobel) Orlowski. She entered eternal life Sunday, November 30, 2003,
at the Gibbs Care Center, Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 89 years,
8 months and 24 days.
In June 1938 at Leavenworth, Kansas Margaret was united in marriage to
Ernest Timpe. One son and one daughter were born to this union. Ernest
preceded her in death, December 15, 1978. She was also preceded in death by
five brothers and their wives, Paul and Bertha Orlowski, Walter and Margaret
Orlowski, Edwin and Marie Orlowski, Adolph and LaVerna Orlowski, Elmer and
Kathleen Orlowski; and one sister and husband, Helen and David Wells.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted daughter,
Elaine and husband Donald Gummersheimer of Steelville, Missouri; her
loving son, Kenneth Timpe and wife Mary of Charlotte, North Carolina; two
grandchildren, Eric Gummersheimer of Overland Park, Kansas and Neal Timpe
of Charlotte, North Carolina; special family friends Rita and Patrick
Lynch of Camdenton, Missouri, other relatives and friends.
Margaret was a member of 42 years of Bethany Lutheran Church in Overland
Park, Kansas.
Funeral services were presided over by Pastor Bryan Drebus of Bethany
Lutheran Church, Overland Park, Kansas, 10 a.m. Thursday, December 4,
2003, at the Charter Funeral Home, Shawnee Mission, Kansas.
Committal prayers and interment were in Johnson County Memorial Gardens
Cemetery, Overland Park, Kansas. Local arrangements were entrusted to
Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
