MO Local Obituaries for the Week of December 26, 2007 Myrtle Alene Elliott Myrtle Alene Elliott of Leasburg, Missouri was born to the union of Lee and Elsie (Rodgers) Imboden on October 27, 1922 in Vienna, Missouri and passed away Thursday, December 20, 2007 in Owensville, Missouri at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 24 days. Myrtle was united in marriage to John Charles Elliott on October 11, 1943 in Buffalo, New York and to this union one son was born, Ray Eugene. Myrtle retired after many years as a waitress having worked at the Mid-Way Restaurant and the Dutch Barn Restaurant both in Cuba, Missouri. She attended the First Southern Baptist Church of Leasburg. Her passions in life included gardening, canning, quilting, cooking and baking. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Elsie (Rodgers) Imboden; husband, John Charles Elliott; son, Ray Eugene Elliott; two brothers, Ray and Guy Imboden; two sisters, Sylvia Rector and Tilda Laney; one nephew, Arvil Owens; her special friend, Alfred Phillips. She is survived by her brother, Charles and wife Pearl Imboden of Bourbon, Missouri; sister, Wanda Fleischmann of Belle, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Welbon Warren Halbert Warren Halbert, 85, of Villa Ridge, Missouri, formerly of Cherryville, Missouri passed away Friday, December 21, 2007 at the Pacific Care Center in Pacific, Missouri. He was born October 6, 1922 in Dillard, Missouri to William Everett and Cora (Britton) Halbert. On February 25, 1950 he was united in marriage to Naomi Ruth (Baker) Halbert who preceded him in death on March 29, 1995. Welbon was retired from Bettendorf Rapp and a member of the Teamsters Union Local 688. He attended the Evangel Temple in Maplewood, Missouri. He enjoyed nature and being outdoors. When his health permitted, he loved reading about American History, especially the Civil War. He always found a place in his heart for the stray cats that came his way, so he fed and cared for them. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; one daughter, Linda Seiler; two brothers and their wives, Pearl and Mae Halbert, Glenn and Daisy Halbert; two sisters-in-law and husbands, Virgina and Elba Wilson, Nadine and Ray Watson and brother-in-law, Kenneth Tinker. He is survived by his son, Gary and wife Athena of Villa Ridge, Missouri; one daughter, Karen Lee and companion, Patrick Oglesby Sr. of Hillsboro, Missouri; six grandchildren, Sarah Vora and husband Satyen, Patrick Oglesby, Zachary Halbert, Joanna Halbert, Wesley Halbert and Melody Halbert; one brother, Roy and wife Gail of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Betty and husband Pete Gremaud of Chesterfield, Missouri; three brothers-in-law, Joe and wife Wilma Baker and Bill and wife Pat Baker all of Davisville, Missouri and Jim and wife Cathy Baker of Cuba, Missouri; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 23, 2007 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Harrison Brown officiating. Special music of “Amazing Grace” and a Medley of Songs were sung by Bob and Carol Coleman with Shirley Brown accompanying on piano. Casket bearers were Doug Halbert, David Baker, Rodney Baker, Billy Baker, Dennis Baker and Claude Ash. Committal prayer and burial were in the New Dillard Cemetery at Dillard, Missouri. Estel Vernon Higgins Estel Vernon Higgins of Cuba, Missouri was born on January 1, 1918 at Oak Hill, Missouri to the union of Guy and Edith (nee Tyree) Higgins and passed away December 21, 2007 at Steelville, Missouri at the age of 89 years, 11 months and 20 days. Vernon was united in marriage to Marie Helen Nichols on April 4, 1942 at Leasburg, Missouri and to this union one daughter was born. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served from March of 1942 until September of 1945 as a Chief Electrician’s Mate. While serving in the Navy, Vernon attended Purdue University, were he received his electrical training. After the Navy he and Marie moved back to Crawford County where he worked for the family business Higgins Electric until he became employed by Crawford Electric. From 1952 until 1966 he worked for Central Electric in Chamois and Jefferson City, Missouri as the Plant supervisor. In 1966 they moved to northern California where he worked for the Plascer Company Water Agency which is a hydro-electric power plant, as the supervisor. After retiring in 1979 they moved to Sullivan, Missouri where Vernon owned and operated a small engine repair, refrigeration and air conditioning repair business and helped with the Sullivan Airport electrical programs. During the time they lived in Sullivan, Vernon took a one year course at East Central in Refrigeration Air Conditioning Repair. He graduated with a 4.0 at the age of 69. After retiring from this business in 1996 they moved to Cuba, Missouri. He was a member of the ARRL, the national association for Amateur Radio for 60 plus years. He was a member of the Faith Assembly of God Church in Sullivan since 1996 were he had been a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wayne Higgins; one brother-in-law, Harry Hoover; other relatives and friends. He is survived by his wife of 65 years; one daughter, Patsy J. and husband Henry Copling of Cuba, Missouri; two brothers, Leland and wife Helen Higgins of Leasburg, Missouri and Darrell and wife Betty Higgins of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; one sister, Deloris Hoover of Sullivan, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Jean Higgins of Ellisville, Missouri; nieces, nephews; great nieces; great nephews and many friends. Hutter (nee Fachette) of Cuba, Missouri formerly of St. Louis, Missouri was born to the union of John and Marie (Aubuchon) Fachette on May 8, 1912 in St. Louis, Missouri and passed away Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at her home in Indian Hills, Cuba, Missouri, at the age of 95 years, 7 months and 4 days. Dorothy was united in marriage to Charles M. Hutter on July 20, 1993 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Des Peres, Missouri. She retired as an Office Clerk from Consolidated Freight Ways, St. Louis, Missouri. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Des Peres, Missouri. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, cooking, fishing and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Charles Maurer; one brother, Walter Fachette and one sister, Audrey Handing. She is survived by her husband, Charles M. Hutter of Cuba, Missouri; two sons, Richard Maurer of Dallas, Texas and Michael Maurer of Cuba, Missouri; one daughter, Mariana and husband Erwin Hageman of Oakville, Missouri; five step children; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends. Elise Lorraine Janowiak-Ellerbee Elise Lorraine (Lorrie) Janowiak-Ellerbee (nee Forget’) passed away Monday, December 17, 2007, in Rolla, Missouri. She was born April 15, 1927 to Timothy Andre Forget’ and Louella Lavon Skeels Forget’ in Wellston, Oklahoma. She married Leon John Janowiak on July 30, 1947, in Harrah, Oklahoma. Leon preceded her in death on December 31, 1984. They had six children, all raised in Harrah, Oklahoma. She was a retired federal employee who always enjoyed keeping busy. Lorrie, along with her daughter Cyndi, owned and operated The Harrah News from 1976 through 1989. She was the star reporter for the newspaper contributing everything from hard-hitting news stories to human interest. She was the backbone of the News. She married Samuel Walter Ellerbee on January 1, 1998, in Colorado. They enjoyed traveling together and spending their winter months in south Texas. Sam passed away December 19, 2003. Christmas was always her favorite time of the year. She made it her mission during the holidays to make sure that those who were less fortunate had at least a little something to look forward to. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles Forget’ She is survived by her six children and 11 grandchildren: Catherine and Bill Lange of Cuba, Missouri and their children Courtney and husband Jason Mills and Chip Lange; Dr. James and Sandy Janowiak of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and their children Mathew Jones and Jared, Cary and Joe Janowiak; Cyndi and Rick Clark of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and their daughter Chrissy Clark; Jerry and Sandra Janowiak of Harrah, Oklahoma, and their children Jeremy and Candice Janowiak; Cheryl and Stan Lucas of Langhorne, Pennsylvania, and their son, Jason Lucas; and, Connie and Mike Tanner of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and their daughter, Cydney Tanner. She is also survived by her brother, Timothy Forget’ of Williamson, New York; two sisters, Lora Benedix of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Esther Yunck of Santa Ynez, California; many nieces and nephews. Colton Thomas Larrison Colton Thomas Larrison, premature infant son of Joseph and Melissa Midyett Larrison of Cuba, Missouri was still born on December 11, 2007 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, James Harris and grandmother, Gwen Licklider Larrison. He is survived by his parents; grandparents, Gary and Donna Midyett of Sullivan, Missouri, Joe and Janet Larrison of Sullivan, Missouri; great grandparents, Oliver and Charlotte Licklider of Steelville, Missouri, Cecil Midyett of Steelville, Missouri, Venita and Don Humphrey of Welch, Oklahoma and Pat Harris of Sullivan, Missouri and other relatives. Reverend Ronnie Gale Mercer Ronnie Gale Mercer was born on July 15, 1958 in Rolla, Missouri to John Thomas and Marie (nee Bridgeman) Mercer. He passed away Sunday, December 16, 2007 at the age of 49 years. After high school Ronnie married Machell Missey in Stanton, Missouri on June 10, 1978. He was a member of International Gospel Assembly and Bibleway Association and has been the pastor of Pea Ridge Pentecostal Church for 4 ˝ years. He coached American League Baseball for many years and with his wife have blessed people in the Sullivan community with their music for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Leroy Mercer. Sego Peter Robert Sego of Cuba, Missouri was born January 27, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri and passed away Monday, December 17, 2007 in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 60 years, 10 months and 21 days. Peter retired as a Draftsman from U.S. Geological Survey in Rolla, Missouri. He obtained a Bachelor Degree from Oklahoma State University. His hobbies included playing chess, cards, darts and shooting pool. He enjoyed swimming and watching football. He is preceded in death by his birth mother, Lucille (Myers) Breece; grandparents, Pete and Eula Myers and Leslie E. and Virginia E. Sego. Staats of Cuba, Missouri was born August 4, 1923 at Bourbon, Missouri to the union of Ira Augustus Morton and Mildred Mae (nee Adams) Morton and passed away December 21, 2007 at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 17 days. Doris was united in marriage to Perry Wilson Staats. Doris graduated from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. After graduation Doris and Perry owned and operated the Rexall Drug Incorporation located at Cuba, Bourbon and Sullivan for 20 plus years. During the early years of being pharmacist they did home deliveries. She was an avid animal lover, especially her cat “Tommy” and her dog “Buddy”. She enjoyed living at Indian Hills and being on the lake, for there they enjoyed boating and water skiing. In her spare time Doris enjoyed reading, watching TV Land, eating out especially on Sunday mornings. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Iris Shea; other relatives and friends. She is survived by her three nephews, Dan Shea, David and wife Sabrina Shea, all of Phenix City, Alabama and Don and wife Mary Shea of Winchester, California; one niece, Mary Gaither of Warrenton, Missouri; seven great nieces and nephews, Erika, Colton, Brenna, Brandon, Bradley, Amber and Daniel; one cousin, Cleo H.
