Goldie Pearl Hedgcoth
Goldie Pearl Hedgcoth, daughter of Robert Woolf and Abigail Harper Woolf
was born December 28, 1911 in Midridge, Missouri and passed away December
7, 2001 in Farmington, Missouri at the age of 89 years, 11 months and nine
days.
Goldie is survived by seven children: Edna Marie Copeland of Bixby,
Missouri, Jessie Crocker of Viburnum, Missouri, Donald Hedgcoth and wife
Glenda of Bixby, Missouri, Calvin Hedgcoth of Fredricktown, Missouri, Verla
Brown and husband David of Steelville, Missouri, Verna Holtz and husband
Larry of Cuba, Missouri, Hershel Hedgcoth and wife Brenda of Bixby,
Missouri; 32 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren and 14 great great
grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Ira Elmer Hedgcoth,
three sons: James, Earl and Marvin; six grandchildren, one great
grandchild; Margaret Crabtree, five brothers: Robert Sylvester Woolf,
William Calvin Woolf, Johnny Woolf, Edward Woolf and Andrew Woolf.
Funeral services for Goldie Pearl Hedgcoth were held December 10, 2001 in
the First Christian Church in Viburnum, Missouri with Brother Harrison
Brown and Brother George Civey officiating.
Special music was provided by Tara Robinson with Holly Holtz as pianist.
Serving as pallbearers were Marty Hedgcoth, Tommy Copeland, Kyle Hedgcoth,
David Crocker, Jeff Fox, Kristopher Holtz. Serving as honorary pallbearer
was Jeremy Hedgcoth.
Interment was in the Stricklin Cemetery with all arrangements under the
direction of the Spencer Funeral Home.
Richard E. Holmes
Richard E. Holmes was born on November 23, 1947 in St. Louis, Mo. to Ralph
J. Holmes and Leona Mae Blucker Holmes. He passed away suddenly on December
18, 2001 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Mo. at the age of 54
years and 25 days.
Richard served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was
honorably discharged.
On August 2, 1986, he married Debra Stroupe in Cahokia, Illinois, and they
later moved to Cuba in 1990.
His past employment was at Midland Brake Parts and most recently at Briggs
& Stratton in Rolla. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and spent
much time with them. Richard was a car enthusiast where he especially
enjoyed automobile restoration and motorcycling. He was a member of Center
Point Baptist Church in Steelville, Mo.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Ralph, Robert,
Nicholas Holmes; a sister Wanda Hamner, and brother-in-law Chuck Williams.
Those who remain to mourn his passing are his dear wife Debra of the home;
five children, David Holmes and wife Shannon of St. Louis, Mo., Rhonda
Tutor and husband Ray of Waterloo, Illinois, Tony Holmes of St. Charles,
Mo., Michael Stroupe and Richard Holmes of the home; one sister Betty Jo
Williams of Kansas City, Mo.; sister-in-law Lorraine Holmes of Cahokia,
Illinois; and five grandchildren, Amanda, Lauren, Erica, Clay and Shea;
nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends, all who will sadly miss
and fondly remember Richard E. Holmes.
Visitation was held from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2001 at the
Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba, Mo.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 21, 2001 at the
Hutson Funeral Chapel in Cuba, Mo.
Burial was at Kinder Cemetery in Cuba, Mo. with Rev. Cardis Bryan
officiating. Pallbearers were David, Robert, and Tony Holmes, Joe Storey,
Adam Hamner, and Poncho Haarmann.
Memorial may be given to a Trust Fund established for children Michael
Stroupe and Richard Holmes at Cuba Banking Center.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home in Cuba, Mo.
Marie Maggie Mercer
Marie Maggie Mercer of Sullivan, Mo. was born September 21, 1925 to Opal
Callahan and William C. Bridgeman. She passed away Sunday, December 16,
2001 at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 25 days.
Marie was a lifelong resident of Sullivan and loved spending time with her
children and grandchildren. Her favorite past time was attending auctions
and yard sales. She was a faithful and lifelong member of the Pea Ridge
Holiness Church of Sullivan, Mo. and will be greatly missed by al who knew
her.
In May of 1940, she was united in marriage to John Thomas Mercer and to
this union eleven children were born. She is survived by ten children, John
Mercer, Jr., and wife Theresa of Sullivan, Carol Hebert and husband Norbert
of Branson, Mo., Bobby Mercer and wife Sarah of Sullivan, Mo., Glenn Mercer
of Owensville, Mo., Wayner Mercer and wife Catherine of Sullivan, Mo.,
Clifton Mercer of Sullivan, Mo., Patricia Payne and husband Rick of
Sullivan, Connie Baum and husband Harry of Kansas City, Mo., Margaret
Sappington and husband Doyle of Bourbon, Mo., Ron Mercer and wife Michelle
of Sullivan; 30 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, five sisters,
Imogene Brown of Moline, Illinois, Velma Boyer and husband Andy of
Sullivan, Helen Medders of Sullivan, Laura Studdard and husband Lawrence of
Sullivan, Joyce Clonts and husband of England, Arkansas, one brother Roy
Bridgeman, other relatives and friends.
Along with her husband and parents, Mrs. Mercer was preceded in death by
one son, Leroy Mercer, two brothers, Jessie and Johnny Bridgeman and two
sisters, Lorene and Mae Bridgeman.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2001
from Pea Ridge Holiness Church with Pastors Joe Gensler and Alfred Morgan
officiating. Interment was in Reedville Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were
under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Mo.
George R. Ogden
George R. Ogden was born Tuesday, August 18, 1925, at Honey Bend, Illinois,
a son of the late George "Rocky" Ogden and Lavonne Elizabeth (Robinson)
Ogden.
He entered eternal life Friday, December 14, 2001, at his home in
Steelville, Missouri, at the age of 76 years, three months and 26 days.
George served his country in the United States Navy, enlisting at
Litchfield, Illinois July 19, 1943. He received an Honorable Discharge
January 13, 1946 at the U.S. Naval Personnel Separation Center, Great Lake,
Illinois. During this time he earned the American Theatre Medal, the
European North African Medal with one star, the Asiatic Pacific medal and
the Victory Medal.
On November 25, 1948, at the West Florrissant Baptist Church, Rev. Fiedler
united George and Camille Whyte in marriage. Two sons were born to this
union. They have enjoyed 53 years together.
George was a member of Steelville Presbyterian Church, served as Boy Scout
Leader for many years, served as school board member and was president for
several years, was an active member of the Masonic Lodge serving as Master
and Secretary, also was 32rd Degree Scottish Rite. He worked for the St.
Louis Police, Crawford County Sheriff's Department and Cuba Police.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two
brothers-in-law, Earl Costley and Charles Moelm.
Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his devoted wife, Camille
of the home; two sons, Glen Ogden and wife Tawney of Bourbon, Missouri, Don
Ogden and wife Linda of Sparta, Missouri; one sister, Darlyne Costley of
Columbia, Missouri.
Two sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Ruby Jean and George Hieken of
Merrimack, New Hampshire, Clarice Moelm of St. Louis County, Missouri.
Seven grandchildren, Stephanie Heath of Sullivan, Missouri, Stacy Odgen of
Bourbon, Missouri, Summer Beeman and husband Mike of Fenton, Missouri,
Courtney Castor of Bourbon, Missouri, Michael, Daniel and Tabitha Odgen of
Sparta, Missouri; one great grandson, Austin Heath; nieces, nephews,
cousins, other relatives and many friends.
George R. Ogden lay in state 1-8 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2001, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were
held 11 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2001 at the Presbyterian Church,
Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Dale Starr officiating. Musical selections
were provided by organist Deloris Bell and vocalist Donna Spacek.
Committal prayers and interment was at 2:30 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2001
with full military honors at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St.
Louis, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were: Judge Dorman Steelman, Judge
J. Max Price, Judge Camm Seay, Ray Plank, Tim Cunningham and Ronald
Slovensky. Honorary pallbearers were Karen McPeters and Ralph Hensley.
Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville,
Missouri.
