Ronald Gerald Berg
Ronald Gerald Berg of Cuba, Missouri was born on June 19, 1939 in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the union of Arthur Berg and Ruth Bischoff Berg
and passed away suddenly on December 26, 2003 at the Missouri Baptist
Hospital, Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 64 years, 6 months and 7 days.
On August 28, 1965 Ronald was united in marriage to Reta Borror in Muncie,
Indiana. Ronald was a member of the Lutheran Faith and retired out of the
Navy as a Petty Officer.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving wife
Reta Berg; three sons, Joseph Berg and wife Roxanne of Waukegan, Illinois,
Douglas Berg and friend Linda Payne of Cuba, Missouri and Loren Berg of
Cuba, Missouri, one daughter, Rebecca Glandon of Cuba, Missouri.
One brother, Arthur Berg Jr. of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. three sisters,
Marilyn Jacack and husband Dave of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, Ardelle
Thurow and husband Stuart of Brown Deer, Wisconsin and Donna Peters of
Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Four grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives
and friends. Ronald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, good
friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
No public funeral services were held. All arrangements were under the
direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Roy Lewis Blanton
Roy Lewis Blanton was born Saturday, May 3, 1931 at Maplewood, Missouri, a
son to the late Lloyd Jesse Blanton and Fannie E. (Brown) Blanton.

Roy was united in marriage to Julia Mae Harman on March 2, 1949 in
Steelville, Missouri. They enjoyed over 54 years together at the time of
his passing. From this union, one son and two daughters were born.
In addition to his parents, Roy is preceded in death by his son Leonard
Roy Blanton; his brother Howard Blanton; a grandson Jason Blanton;
father-in-law Lee Roy Harmon; son-in-law Phillip Davis; brothers-in-law
Eldon Harman and Gilbert Harman; and sisters-in-law Ruby Lee Hinkley and
Ada Hall. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are wife Julia of the
home in Steelville, Missouri; two daughters, Donna Kay Harper and husband
Charles and Susie Joyce Blanton, all of Steelville, Missouri.
One brother, Tom Blanton and wife Barbara of Springfield, Missouri;
mother-in-law Cora Harman of Steelville, Missouri; brothers-in-law "Sonny"
Roy Harman and wife Helen of Linn Creek, Missouri, John Harman and wife
Jannette of Bourbon, Missouri; sister-in-law, Edna Pratt and husband Ken
of Steelville, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Tina Skiles of Steelville,
Missouri and grandchildren Mike and Carol Davis, Rebecca and Chad Barton,
Erin and Robert Harmon, Jennifer Stevens and Roxanna Blanton; great
grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear
friends.
Roy first got Julia's attention when he was only 13 years old. He was
singing, "Bringing in the Sheaves," as loud as he could with the choir at
the Liberty Methodist Church. When they were in their mid-teens, they
finally started dating and later wed at the home of Rev. Sam L. Roper.
Immediately after they were wed, Roy worked for Julia's father at his
sawmill. Roy later took a job with the state highway department and then
with Menafee Construction in St. Louis, Missouri where he retired in 1989
after 35 years in construction work. Roy has enjoyed raising cattle on the
farm and he and Julia enjoyed a lot of traveling together. They would often
travel in September to a four day Blanton convention in Kentucky. Roy
enjoyed hunting, fishing, and talking with his friends. Roy loved his family
and commented along with his wife Julia while celebrating their 50th
anniversary that, "We believe these three things: love, trust and being equal
partners in everything have helped us through the bad times and the good
times better." Roy Lewis Blanton lay in state from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday,
December 23, 2003 at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 11 a. m. Wednesday, December 24, 2003 in the
Britton Chapel with Rev. Delmar Hutson officiating. Joy Collins provided
musical selections among which was "Bringing in the Sheaves." Committal
prayers and interment were in the Liberty Cemetery, rural Steelville,
Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Jesse L. Blanton, Van Blanton, John
D. Harman, J.T. Ransom, Ronald Slowensky and Thomas R. Slovensky.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Britton Brothers Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri.
Melba Maude Edwards
Melba Maude Edwards was born Tuesday, November 9, 1920 at Steelville,
Missouri, a daughter of the late Robert Edwards and Haney Edwards (nee
Gray). Melba departed this life Saturday, December 20, 2003 at the Phelps
County Medical Center, Rolla, Missouri at the age of 83 years, 1 month and
11 days.
She was united in marriage to Floyd Eagles. One daughter and nine sons
were born to this union. Floyd preceded her in death as did one son Robert
Eagles. Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Clarence Edwards
and wife Mary, Henry Edwards, Woodrow Edwards and wife Wanda and one sister
Nellie and husband Homer McEuen and brother-in-law Milton Halbert.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are eight sons, Mike, Charles,
Jerry, Dale, Joey, Ronnie, Tommy and Jimmy Eagles and one daughter Linda
and husband Jim Farnham; her sister, with whom she made her home the past
eight years, Rosie Halbert of Steelville, Missouri; a sister-in-law Melba
Edwards of Sullivan, Missouri; seven grandchildren, three great
grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Melba Maude Edwards laid in state from 10 a.m. until time of services at
the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services
were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2003 in the Britton Chapel with
Rev. Bob Coleman officiating. Committal prayers and interment were in Freeman
Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri. Arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
Wanda L. Gregory
Wanda Lee Gregory nee Jackson of Cuba, Missouri was born on Saturday,
January 14, 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri to John Samuel and Melvin Jackson
and Zelma Elizabeth Rankins Jackson. She passed away at Cuba Manor on
Friday, December 19, 2003 at the age of 70 years, 11 months and 5 days.
Wanda married Herman Henry Knopfel on August 9, 1952 in St. Clair,
Missouri and to this union six children were born.
Wanda was an active member of the Freewill Baptist Church, Cuba, Missouri.
For her hobbies she liked to read, enjoyed working crossword puzzles and
most of all spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Herman Henry
Knopfel. Those who remain to mourn her passing are her children Herman
Henry Knopfel, Jr. and wife Donna of Murray, Kentucky, John Edward Knopfel
of Jefferson City, Missouri, Robin Lee Knopfel of St. Louis, Missouri,
Linda Joy Martin of Murray, Kentucky, Cecilia Joanne Skaggs and husband
Russell of Haworth, Oklahoma, and Tina Marie Collier and husband Russell
of Cuba, Missouri. Brothers John Jackson, Wally Seypohltowsky of St. Louis,
Missouri; sisters-in-law Edna Lynch and husband Jim of St. Louis, Missouri;
16 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and
friends. Visitation was Saturday, December 20, 2003 from 4-8 p.m. at Hutson
Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral services were Sunday, December 21, 2003
at 2 p.m. at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri with Brother Mike Schultz
officiating. Burial was at Meramec Hills Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.
All arrangements are under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba,
Missouri.
Donald "Don" Ray Hatton
Donald "Don" Ray Hatton of Cuba, Missouri was born on November 10, 1948 at
Clarkton, Missouri to the union of Lavern Hatton and Velma Maddox Hatton
and passed away on December 23, 2003 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital, St.
Louis, Missouri at the age of 55 years, 1 month and 13 days.
On September 30, 1967 Don was united in marriage to Margaret "Cookie"
Hogan at Clarkton, Missouri. Two sons, Donnie and Shawn, were born to this
union. They were happily married until Cookie preceded him in death on
August 15, 1992. Don was also preceded in death by his father, one grandson
Austin Hatton, one brother William Hatton and one sister Doris Mikel.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his two sons,
Donnie Hatton and wife Kelly and Shawn Hatton and wife Michelle; mother,
Velma Hatton, three grandchildren, Alex, Amanda and Travis Hatton.
Four brothers, Robert Hatton and wife Becky, Larry Hatton and wife Tina,
Norman Hatton and Billy Hatton. Four sisters, Nadine Wilkerson and husband
Bobby, Patricia Miller and husband Jim, Sue Harris and husband Sonny and
Betty Lundquist and husband Melvin, nieces, nephews, other relatives and
many friends.
Don was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, good
friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
Donald "Don" Ray Hatton was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri where funeral services were held on Friday, December 26, 2003 at
2 p.m. with Gary Mace officiating. Interment was in the Meramec Hills
Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of
the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Doris Janette Knittel
Doris Janette Knittel was born Wednesday, June 6, 1934, at Annapolis,
Missouri, a daughter of the late Golden Ray Corey and Peachie (Evans)
Corey. She departed this life Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at the Phelps
County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri, at the age of 69 years,
6 months and 11 days.
Saturday, June 13, 1953, at St. Agnes Church, St. Louis, Missouri, Doris
was united in marriage to Richard Knittel. Two sons and four daughters
were born to this union. They have enjoyed 50 years together.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister,
Delores Watson and one sister-in-law Kathy (Mrs. Charles) Corey.
Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted husband,
Richard Knittel Sr. of the home; their two sons and four daughters,
Jeanette Carron and husband Austin, Rich Knittel Jr. and wife Connie,
Debbie Knittel, all of St. Louis, Missouri; Ken Knittel and wife Sue of
Tucson, Arizona, Liz Stellhorn and husband Michael of Overland Park,
Kansas, and Mary Fitzpatrick and husband Tim of St. Louis, Missouri. Two
brothers, Charles Corey of Carbondale, Colorado and Bob Corey of St.
Louis, Missouri. Also remaining are eight grandchildren: Becky Brennecke
and husband Andy of Jefferson City, Missouri, Angela Sinha and husband
Prakash of West Virginia, Timmy and Ricky Panagiotaras, Corey and Meagan
Fitzpatrick, all of St. Louis, Missouri, Lenny and Kendra Knittel of Tucson,
Arizona, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Doris will always
be remembered as a devoted mother and dedicated teacher as well as a dear
friend and role model.
Doris J. Knittel laid in state from 2-9 p.m. with prayer service held at
6 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2003 at the Britton Brothers Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri. Requiem mass was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 20,
2003 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Steelville, Missouri with Father
James Finder. Musical selections were provided by Deloris Bell.
Committal prayers and interment were in the Fairview Cemetery, Butts,
Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were Andrew Brennecke, Austin Carron, Tim
Fitzpatrick, Michael J. Knittel, Richard Panagiostaras and Michael A.
Stellhorn. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral
Home of Steelville, Missouri.
Nora Laramore
Nora Laramore of Salem, Missouri formerly of Potosi, passed away December
21, 2003, at her daughter's home in Steelville, Missouri at the age of 88
years, 1 month and 14 days. She was born November 7, 1915 at Oats,
Missouri, a daughter of the late John Taylor Shepherd and Mary Elizabeth
(Turner) Shepherd.
Nora was united in marriage to Charles Edmond Laramore on February 13,
1934 at Salem, Missouri and four children were born to this union. Mr.
Laramore preceded her in death on August 2, 2001. Nora was baptized in
September of 1939 and was a member of the Emmaus Baptist Church of
Courtois.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by four
brothers, Ozero, Cicero, James and Willard Shepherd; four sisters, Minnie
Psalmonds, Lillie Mae Mooney, Jewel Johnson and Viola (Tiny) White.
Those who remain to mourn her passing are her three daughters, Elsie
Turnbough and husband Berlie of Steelville, Erma Jackson and husband Bill
of Black, Betty Volner and husband Buell of Salem. One son Tommy Laramore
and wife Karen of Rolla, one sister Laura Riggs of Collinsville, Illinois.
Nine grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild,
nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss
her.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at
the Britton Chapel with Elder James Peterman officiating. Music was
provided by Larry and Geraldine Sherrill. Serving as pallbearers were her
grandsons, Rodney Turnbough, Steven Laramore, Will Jackson, Jeffery Jackson,
Fred Winters and John Walstrand. Interment was in the Lower Indian Creek
Cemetery, under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi.
Eugene Long
Clarence Eugene Long was born on September 16, 1916 near Cuba, Missouri to
the union of Clarence Ray Long and Viola Minnie Conlin.
He departed this life in Honolulu, Hawaii at 87 years of age on December
8, 2003. Better known as Eugene or Gene to his family and friends, he retired
in 1973 in Hawaii after a long career with the federal government in
logistics and supply. His work took him away from Missouri to California, Guam,
Japan and Korea.
He first married Melba (Dorothy) Maxine Moyer in 1939. To this union two
sons were born, Lanny Eugene Counts of Dripping Springs, Texas and Gary
Allen Counts. He married second, Audrey Hazel Shulte (nee Hartman) in 1948.
From this marriage another son was born, Terry (Randy) Randall Long of
Shannon County, Missouri. His third marriage was to Sue Ren Suh in 1966.
He leaves behind three half brothers and sisters, Beulah Schlife (Sharp)
of Riverside, California, Violet Mulder (Sharp) of Cuba, Missouri, and
Leroy Sharp of Bridgeton, North Carolina. A brother-in-law William Martin
of Alton, Illinois and a sister-in-law Viola Sharp of Perryville,
Missouri. He was preceded in death by his wife Sue; brothers Walter Sharp,
Paul Sharp and sisters Genevea Crabtree (Long), Berniece Martin (Sharp).
Besides his three sons, he also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and
cousins.
Nola Catherine Smith
Nola Catherine (Wallar) Smith was born August 6, 1909 in Mt. Carmel,
Illinois and departed this life at 1:30 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2003 in
Webco Manor Nursing Home, Marshfield, Missouri.
Nola had worked as a telegrapher for Western Union in St. Louis. During
World War II she began work at an ammunition plant, also in St. Louis. She
later was a co-owner and manager of the Cuba Hotel in Cuba, Missouri where
she also worked for a time as a bookkeeper and sales clerk for Western
Auto, from which she retired.
A Missouri resident since, 1921, she moved to Marshfield in 1991 and has
been a member of Holy Trinity Church since her arrival.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; a step-son, William
Smith; her parents, Herbert and Margaret Wallar; her sister, Clara; and a
brother-in-law, Martin Bednar. Survivors include two nieces, Mary Routh and
her husband Scott, Marshfield and Margaret Woodall and her husband Robert,
Rockwall, Texas; two nephews, Gregory Bednar and his wife Carol, Charlotte,
North Carolina and Jeffrey Bednar and his wife Carolyn, Tulsa, Oklahoma;
eight grand nieces and nephews; three great grand nephews; four step
grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Mrs. Smith was a
generous, loving lady with a ready sharp wit and much wisdom. She will be
greatly missed.
Funeral mass was at 10 a.m. Friday, December 26, 2003 in Holy Trinity
Catholic Church, Marshfield, with Fr. Michael Casteel officiating.
Graveside services under the direction of Fraker Funeral Home, were at
1:30 p.m. Friday, December 26, 2003 in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Cuba,
Missouri.
Ronald James Smith
Ronald James Smith, of Cuba, Missouri, was born on December 24, 1935 in
St. Louis, Missouri to the union of James Emory Smith and Doris Mudge
Smith and passed away suddenly on December 25, 2003 at the Phelps County
Regional Medical Center of Rolla, Missouri at the age of 68 years.
On May 27, 1956, Ronald was united in marriage to Shirley Heidmann at
Gerald, Missouri. Two sons, Dennis and David, and one daughter, Sherri,
were born to this union. They have been happily married for 47 years.
Ronald served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged
on March 8, 1963.
He was preceded in death by his father James Emory Smith.
Ronald was a member of the Living Church of God of Rolla, Missouri.
Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his loving wife
Shirley Smith; two sons, Dennis Smith and David Smith and wife Karla; one
daughter, Sherri Ziegler and husband Fred; mother Doris Smith Thorpe and
husband Les; one brother Jim Smith and wife Elvena; three grandchildren;
other relatives and many friends. Ronald was loving husband, son, father,
grandfather, brother, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly
missed.

Missouri where funeral services were held on Sunday, December 28, 2003 at
2 p.m. with Rod Reynolds officiating. Interment was in the Meramec Hills
Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of the
Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Jackson "Jack" L. Todd
Jackson "Jack" L. Todd of Cuba, Missouri was born on September 22, 1924 at
Zion, Arkansas to the union of William Todd and Effie Beulah Howell Todd
and passed away on December 25, 2003 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital in
Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 79 years, 3 months and 3 days.
On February 8, 1943 Jack was united in marriage to Lorene Whiteaker in
Reno, Nevada. Three sons, Steven, James and Dwight, were born to this
union. They had been happily married for 60 years.
On February 4, 1943, Jack was inducted into the Army Air Force and
honorably served his country during World War II and was discharged on
September 20, 1945. He served in the Air Offensive Europe, Normandy and
Northern France Campaigns.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Jess, Harold,
Bill and Jerry Todd. Jack and Lorene owned and operated the Meramec Sundries
for 10 years. Those who survived to mourn his passing from this life are his
devoted wife Lorene Todd; three sons, Steven Todd and wife Gina, James Todd
and wife Sue and Dwight Todd and wife Jo Ann; one brother, Larry Todd and
wife Carolyn; three sisters, Betty Butts, Bobbie Smith and La Vonne Haney
and husband Wayne. Six grandchildren, Monica and Dan Hewkin, Sheila and
A.J. Hall, Steven and Crystal Todd, Heather and Don Trolinger, Angela and
Matt Christopher and Andrew Todd. Special love also to Betty Todd and
Debra Willoughby-Brown. Ten great grandchildren, other relatives and many
friends. Jack was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great
grandfather, brother, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly
missed.
Jackson "Jack" L. Todd was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba
where funeral services were held on Sunday, December 28, 2003 at 4 p.m.
with Roger Dowd officiating. Interment was in the Kinder Cemetery, Cuba,
Missouri. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral
Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Carl R. Wilkinson
Carl R. Wilkinson, 60, of Phoenix, AZ passed away on Tuesday December 16,
2003. Carl was born in St. James, Missouri on December 6, 1943, to the union
of Willis and Dorothy Wilkinson. On June 11, 1965 he was united in marriage
to Julie Clayton in Phoenix, AZ. A son, Roger B. Wilkinson, and a daughter
Kimberly Joy Wilkinson were born to this union.
His father, Willis A. Wilkinson, preceded him in death. Carl was raised in
Cuba, Mo. and graduated from Cuba High School in 1960, he served three
years in the United States Army and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne
Division.
He is survived by his wife, Julie A. Wilkinson; son and daughter-in-law,
Roger B. and Christy Wilkinson; daughter, Kimberly J. Wilkinson; the light
of Carl's life, his grandson, Joshua "Cade"; mother, Dorothy L. Wilkinson;
sister Willa C. Gross and husband Arthur B. Gross, of Cuba, Missouri and
brother Terry M. Wilkinson and wife Brenda, of Jefferson City, Missouri;
uncle and aunt, Jack and Mary Stubblefield of Phoenix, AZ. Carl was a loving
husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and good friend to all who knew himand will
be sadly missed.
Services were held on Monday, December 22, 2003 at Resurrection Lutheran
Church.
Frances A. Young
Frances A. Young nee Martin of Cuba, Missouri, was born on Saturday,
February 14, 1914 in Steelville, Missouri to Wiley Martin and Edna Riggs
Martin. She passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, Missouri
on Saturday, December 20, 2003 at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 6
days.
Frances married Glendon Young on December 30, 1934 in Steelville, Missouri
and had lived in Cuba, Missouri since 1975. She was a homemaker spending
much time crocheting, gardening, canning and especially growing flowers.
Frances and Glendon had a grape vineyard for many years and even sold
grapes to Welch's Corporation.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Othella Rogers, Peggy
Hutcheson and Velma Richards; brothers Cleo Martin, Kenneth Martin, Jewell
Martin, James Martin and David Martin.
Those who remain her passing are her husband Glendon of the home; sister
Betty Coppedge and husband Glenton of Salem, Missouri; niece Vivian Warner
and husband John of Cuba, Missouri; Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Wilma
Martin of St. Clair, Missouri, Florence Martin of Union, Missouri, Eva Lee
Martin of St. Clair, Missouri and Bill Hutchison of Springfield, Missouri;
numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Visitation was Monday, December 22, 2003 from 5-7 p.m. at Hutson Funeral
Home, Cuba, Missouri. Funeral services were Tuesday, December 23, 2003 at
11 a.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri with Rev. Delmar Hutson
officiating. Burial was in the Steelville Cemetery in Steelville,
Missouri. All arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba,
Missouri.
